- Small block mopar 408 Stroker is up on the dyno. This dodge 408 is using some old school W2 style heads and a solid roller cam to make some great horse power numbers. Hang out and see if we can get more out of her with different air cleaner, spark plugs amd ignition combos.
That’s impressive with iron heads. Great build
Could you gain more with ported aluminium heads and port and polish to match indy intake
This looks like a great motor! I recently had a Mopar 408 built by a guy in Alberta, Canada. What a disaster it is. Turns out he didn't even bench run the motor before shipping it, never mind a dyno! Only have 350 miles on it and there are oil leaks!! Took it for a 50 mile drive the other day and and oil was spraying onto the inside of the hood. Also it came home driving choppy!! I'm 2000 miles from the guy so shipping it back is useless. I should have asked more questions before buying...
😢
Could you give me a build sheet for this engine obviously i read they dont make the heads anymore but cam crank rods and pistons and cc of heads. Or what woud it take for your shop to build one for me
This is just a RUclips channel, all info in vids, lots more on the channel, the 414 stroker build is all of the shelf parts Thanks for watching
How much you want for.that.engine?
Not for sale
If I bring you block what you charge to build me a mopar stroker design for super late model stock car?
@@johndomine1574 sorry not a real “shop” just a RUclips channel. Thanks for watching
w2 heads = i remember back in 1980`s guy`s saying W2 heads man !
Pete is a very experienced dyno operator. One change at a time is the only way to find out if something works (or doesn't). Your right, it would make a very stout street/strip motor.
Excellent vid as usual. Can't wait to see the car run.
👍🏻 my motor will be the next dyno vid!
Try to get those results out of any factory cast iron chevy head NOPE .... good job guys. Torque numbers close to 1.3 nice
Epic small block Mopar moment. I think Your new build will make more torque than Pete's. Terrific channel, been watching for awhile: keep up the good work!
Righ on bro! Yea she a beast. Hooking to get the same out of mine with the trick flows but we will see! Thanks for watching
Awesome Joe《☆》She's a Screamer👍✔Congratulations on your Air Cleaner design🍺🍕Any plans for mass production ?🖖🤓🏈
Hey bud no plans for production lol. 👍🏻🤔
100hp short of a modern supercharger hellcat with a carbed small block is impressive! The crazy part is you can build those heads even more so it’s not even maxed out yet.
New to your videos. Who built the motor? Cost?
This one’s of Pete’s motors. He’s builds top and uses a couple guys for short blocks after he selects parts. Lots of other motor combos on channel! Thanks for watching
Looks like you need a new stall converter. This makes peak torque a bit lower than my engine.
Driving with 5000 stall on the street is no problem if converter is built right!
Not my motor but mine will be similar. I have a new converter talked about it in trans vids
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop sorry I’m not up to date, no time with my hands dirty most of the time ;-)
I remember that you had some problems, was sure it’s your new build.
@@michaw1674 stay tuned for new motor soon!
Nice smoke for an iron cylinder head with origins that predate electricity.
Probably pick up another 8 to 10 numbers with a Meziere electric water pump.
The ultimate small block of all time.
👍🏻👍🏻
what is your Guess for your TFS Headed 408? my guess is very close to these numbers
great video love it man 600 hp on the street is bad
Hell ya brother!
Do you sell big block mopar performance valve covers? I need valve covers that will fit on Trickflow heads and over mechanical Harland sharp rockers. If so can I get contact information?
I don’t sell anything. Just a RUclips channel. Thanks for watching
We need video evidence of Pete handing you a Fiver.
Lol no doubt! Thanks for watching
Hey man I just got a 1973 Duster 340 I was just wondering how much a setup like that would cost to build?
W2 stuff hard to find. Indy still makes w2 stuff. Check them out I guess. Or check out my 414 Stroker vid with trick flow heads. Every thing off the shelf from summit
A very impressive engine, indeed! Thoughs heads are something else. Unfortunitly they are unobtainium in Oz. Blocks are rare, Well 360's are. . They maybe a few skattered in the rural backwaters but how to know/find? My problem. You like Trick Flow heads, Scott? Have a good one. Adam.
I would be proud to have one like that in a 67 Dart GT.
600 ponies in a small block god damn
So the Rev-A-Nator added 3hp? Over what ignition?
Rev over standard Mopar orange but still feel it was all air cleaner. Lol. Watch the ignition shootout vid we did on the big block. More info there
So 605 at the crank is how at the wheels
Would be great to have the actual part numbers for the crank, rods, pistons.
Did the W-2 heads have any port work was that just stock
Yes as I say(write) in vid ported out and flow 340 @700 as Pete was told
I'm actually just a province over from you in Alberta so awesome to see other mopars like mine close by! Question im curious if the carb has annular or downleg boosters? I have a 408 also with a 1050 quick fuel downleg booster but could swap with a friends annular(exact same carb otherwise) so trying to figure if it will he worth it or not. He's also selling the car its on so i probably wont be able to test it. I built and tuned his 408 which runs great how it is.
This carb has downlwgs boosters, I haven’t done/seen a good comparison between the 2 styles but people say the annular are better. Thanks for watching 👍🏻🇨🇦🍺
Being as this is 10.5:1, were these pulls done with 91 octane? If so, whatever this recipe is, is the king kong dong NA small block mopar setup and you should be selling them in a crate ready to run.
It is pump gas but we get 94 in Canada. Mopar dosnt make these heads anymore
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop Send the heads off to be copied.
You are gonna have so much fun! Yee Haw!!
Good to cya again cant wait to see the car run what ru looking for in your et at the strip
Sorry Joe!!!
Did you guys index the plugs?
Not to my knowledge
Did you get the 5 bucks?
Not yet lol. I’ll see him soon tho.
Ran W2's on a lot of 340's back in the day was like turning a switch on.
Hell ya brother
Hey Joe, what are the primary tube diameters for those headers? Are they stepped ?
I have that manifold and carb set up, with W2’s that flow those kind of numbers at 650. Minimum 2 inch spacer(3 is better), and minimum 11.5 to 1. Probably 40hp/40ftp in that alone.
Yes more in these cases will usually net you gains! Thanks for watching
Nice! I’m looking forward to seeing your new power plant. I’m definitely enjoying the small block videos 😃👍
Right on! More to come! Thanks for watching
Not bad but I’ve seen 600hp out of a w2 360
Ya on my channel lol.
Strokers don't add horsepower necessarily. What they add is torque.
I'm guessing those are Mopar W2 heads. Did you run a dyno test between the Aluminum Trick Flow vs the Cast W2 Mopar heads? My buddy ran those back in 1973 when they first came out. He ran the oval ports on his 71 Duster 340 with a 1050 Dominator 4 speed. It ran 10.40's in Super Stock H. AHRA.
Yes Mopar heads. Didn’t compare with trick flows. This is not my motor as I said in video. My motor will use trickflows up soon. Stay tuned!
Not really comparable w2s will decimate trick flows In the hands of someone who knows what they are doing they are a race head with offset rockers. Trick flows are really maxed out as delivered because they aren't an offset rocker head. I've seen w2 365s that are making 650 and still climbing at 7400 rpm when they shut the dyno down different leauge 😳. If you want to break a stock block get an offset rocker head. If you want a great street engine for not too serious coin trick flows or one of the many other ported stock replacement heads are your ticket 600hp is about the max. The others start there 😆
They are great Heads but are you positive he got them in 1973? From all the records I've seen and guys I know who also had them when they came out seems to correlate to 1976 when they were first available to the public. Richard Petty ran them in 75 and one pro stock team with a Dart Sport used them in 74 for testing for Chrysler. And off course later in 78/79 Glidden had some set's(he made his rectangle n closed chamber) which were on his pro stock Arrow . Technically W-2's wouldn't and still aren't legal for Super Stock since they were never available on a factory car. Now the T/A heads were available in 1970 340 six pack's with the offset rockers and later proceeded to the W-2's. Maybe that's what he had?
sure sounds like a runner.
👍🏻👍🏻
Impressive
cant wait to see you run that at track, hope it does better than last year, I haven't had a donut since.
This isn’t my motor. One of Pete’s. Mines up next stay tuned!
Hi joe very nice job on your air cleaner would be interested in one the box is from who? them w2 heads are from who? The cam is? Specs.? Nice job pete.
Hey bud. See more about the box in that ignition shoot out vid, not sure where heads are from, cam specs in the vid! Thanks for watching
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop hi joe can you ask Pete were he got the heads from and the cam and specs thanks joe good luck.
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop send links please thanks joe.
@@johnnybrigham8154 hey bud I will ask Pete where the heads cam from. Cam specs are in vid! No links to send.
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop thankyou joe good luck with your car!!!
Nice. Be great to see a trickflow power port head on it. Might pay to get Pete to surrender his passport until your paid, just to be safe🤣
This is Pete’s motor. Mine will have trickflows on it. It will be up next! I’ll get that 5$ too lol
