I picked up a 2023 klr Saturday, put 157 miles on it yesterday, I'm 58 years old and I love it ,I have 5 motorcycles including a Harley roadking, this might become my favorite bike.
it is an easy bike to ride and it handles the street really well below 70MPH that is, and it has been a very good bike for me for a year now, and I love taking it out and playing in the dirt even if I get into places people say you should only take a dirt bike...lol
Hey bud i love you're channel i bought a 2023 adventure i keep re-watching your videos i love your freek outs your temper is off the HOOK would not want to work for you but love your vids
Great video. and honest bro! Sometimes I think the other reviews are just to buy there sponsor stuff. But I have seen you ride single and just love the honest talk. TY ! I being 60yrs old and riding street for 40 yrs. Im excited to get my KLR Adventure.
Just found your channel about a week ago been binging your videos, really enjoy seeing your skills improve off the pavement. I hope you keep the foul language, your voice sounds exactly like Sam Elliot's....hilarious! Looking forward to this season!
I realize this is 10 months ago you mentioned that your looking for a way to protect the shock linkage. If I'm not mistaken, It looks like you have an Enduro Engineering skid plate. They make and sell a flexible plastic extension piece that bolts onto the end of their skid plates for the protection of the linkage. Im going to order both their skid plate with the plastic attachment for my KLR.b
It’s interesting that you don’t like those trail max tires … I had them on my r1200gs and covered 5 BDR’s with them . Admittedly they weren’t good in sand or thick mud, but they hooked up like crazy in the loose gravel and dirt . On my BMW, I cleared 21,000 miles (rear) while doing the TAT, the Canadian TCT, and the NEBDR . Was considering putting them on the klr 🤔🤔
I started getting used to them now, but I wanted more aggressive tires, but after riding more off road I realized that 80% of my riding is on tarmac and more aggressive tires just wouldn't last
I am really glad that the bike has worked out well for you. Sounds like a tough bike. Just upgraded my camper and hope I am as happy with it as you are with your bike. Looking forward to seeing those rides in the dirt.
I don't mind riding the big bike in the wind and Fog I don't care for, but as long as the roads are clear I will still ride when snowing as well, but if it's starts getting slick because of the snow sticking to the road the bikes are parked, it's not worth me wrecking a bike or hurting myself or someone else just because I love to ride...lol
Thanks for the review, it was helpful. I've had mine ('23 Adventure) for a couple of months now but not off road as yet. I'm really pleased with it thus far, very easy to understand and work on for the home mechanic and aftermarket parts readily available for it. Be safe!
This was a really good review for a new KLR owner like myself. I have the Traveler model and added the accessories that are on your Adventure model. Haven't upgraded the skid plate yet, but I have my eyes on the Happy Trails plate because it extends farther back than most and protects the silver suspension linkage that sticks downward and can catch on rocks, roots and branches. (I'm not sure, though, whether it will be compatible with the OEM frame sliders that protect the lower engine.) Your first-year review about you and your machine is inspiring to me! Thank you, sir!
I didn't get the extended skid plate for reasons that may not matter to any one else but if I get stuck on stock between the linkage and the tire I can lift the bike and set it on the plate, where if you have a plate coming back that far it may be more difficult at that point but that may just be me...lol
I absolutely love my 2022 Adventure model, but I've gotta agree. Getting behind a tractor trailer on the interstate above 70mph can be a real interesting situation. Lots of wobble (beginning of a tank-slapper) that was only remedied by rolling off of the throttle and cutting my speed down.
Hey brother, solid review from someone that can talk. I've seen you put this bike through its paces. I just picked one up a few weeks ago coming from cruisers, I wanted something lighter, easier to maneuver that would go where the pavement ends. She's a tank and the thing I hear often and will agree to, "she won't do anything great, but she will do almost anything." Is about right. Ride-on! JB.
She will do anything you have the balls to do, it may not do dirt stuff as good as a dirt bike but will do it and it's not as good on the street as a cruiser but will do it, and is very hard to kill....lol
Good review. The klr is indeed as reliable as an anvil. It does nothing great but it will do ANYTHING! Youre spot on about high winds too, it can be downright scary. Its the only bike that I ever had to pay attention to the wind forecast lol Lookin forward to the next vid
Right on. This bike really does suck in the wind but it's funny how many people will disagree with me., But that may simply be because it is the first bike they owned so they don't understand what a stable bike is...lol
@@mymotorcyclelifestyle You are correct, each bike handles different in the wind, I had a BMW 1600 that was horrible in the wind, too much plastic? I dont know, same with Harley I had but I owned a Ducati Multi Strada that the wind never really affected it.. go figure. How is the Gold Wing with side winds ?
you don't even notice the wind on a Gold Wing it's like being in a car with the top down...lol every now and then if you have a 40 or 50 mile an hour side gust you will notice a bit, and may have to do some correction to stay on the road, but the KLR can hardly handle a 20 mile an hour cross wind and you are fighting for your life...lol
@@mymotorcyclelifestyle The Gold Wing sounds like the perfect touring bike !.... On some bikes I have been blown from one lane into another! You are correct it feels like you are fighting for your life and exhausting.....
the gold wing is honestly the king of the road, there are a lot of Harleys out there but the Gold wing is the reigning champ of touring for sure. And I do hate fighting to keep a light bike on the road all the time...lol
It does move a lot in high wind. But because of its weight it's not as bad as lighter bikes. My first bike was a ct 110. Second was a xvs650custom cruiser. I miss my xvs. But love the KLR for everything. Just get a 50/50 and accept that they wear out quicker on road. I am more of a novice than you. I'm sticking with the KLR because I can only afford 1 bike.
Well that was what I thought I was getting was the 50-50 tires, but I called the shop and paid for them over the phone and then dropped the bike off and this was what I ended up with, by the time I realized this is what they were putting on the bike I decided to just go with them and see what happens.
Been thinking about using Dunlop Trailmax mission tires. This summer for a ride mostly on pavement. They say that tire gets 8,000 miles. What do you think?
@@mymotorcyclelifestyle I heard about it on RUclips. Call your dealer with the VIN number and the fuel pump serial number, they can tell you if it needs replacing. If so, there's no charge; just a little time in the shop.
Well from what I have seen now only certain ones have been recalled, and I have not had any trouble with mine at all. So I did call the dealer and they simply said if you don't get a letter or an email from Kawasaki then your not affected by the recall so I will just wait and see what happens. I have never had any trouble with mine but I bought it early in 22 and it may only affect the later ones.
@@mymotorcyclelifestyle I didn't get a letter or e-mail either and my fuel pump is on the top of the replacement list. I've got a copy of the replacement number list I can text or e-mail to you.

It's pretty good on the street and fair in the dirt...lol
Look at the t-Rex racing skid plate it covers the rear suspension linkage
I checked into that one but it has to be removed to change the oil, I like this one because of the oil drain hole
Great review. I'm hoping to get one this year.
They are great bikes, they are not great at everything but are Alright at everything and can go just about anywhere.
Keep up the good work and look forward to watching more of your vids. Be safe Bro!
I appreciate it!
The T-Rex skid plate covers and protects the links
Right on thanks for the tip

KLR 650 is good at everything yet great at nothing. Exactly what I wanted.
Yup it the best at nothing kind of bike...lol

I'm up to fire roads and two-tracks.
Right on.
I'm just so jealous of all those wheels on your drive!

Loved your 1 year review
Completely honest.
Thanks again for another great video.
Mark from Maryland
right on thank you for that.
Thank u for this video, I’m going to get a crash bar,
I tried 30f / 34r psi like other ytuber saying and on the klr forums, now getting 50mpg hwy.
I am fine with 45 miles to the gallon and keeping the tires at 21 psi...lol

Plenty of after market parts for sure, they have basically remained un changed for the last 30 years, with the exception of going fuel injected...lol
Looks like you have the Enduro Engineering skid plate, they make a plate to protect the suspension links
I couldn't find that other plate

Well I think that if you are mostly going to be on black top then get the tires you can get the most millage out of, for sure.
I did the 3D adjustable windshield riser & the same mirrors as yours . Absolutely luv this bike 👍 How many miles did you put on yours in a year?
I was only able to put about 2500 miles on the bike the first year, I did a lot of single track which is not a lot of mile but a lot of fun...lol

you are 100% correct...lol
I am subscribed and hope to win the drone. I lost my last drone in a lake.
