when The Grey Chapter came out, it was heavy in a sense that they were dealing with loss and this song is about them killing the part of them that caused them to lose one of their bandmates, Paul Grey. as he died from Overdose, so the band decided that they were gonna go sober, Corey basically said "either sober up or get the fuck out, i'm not losing anybody else like this!" dude got a tattoo of him later and he was crying, that's how close the band had become. it was also the closest they came to fully collapsing.
My very first tattoo was the Slipknot logo on my back. This song actually came out right before my short stint in the psych ward, and I begged the hospital staff to let me listen to it for some comfort. I so distinctly remember lying in that hospital bed with the nurse's phone in my hands, just drinking it in for as many times as she'd let me.
As a Gen Zer I can confirm that nu metal is having a big revival. I can’t really give an explanation other than the fact that it’s great music, and fills a void that is lacking in today’s music scene.
God. I remember when I was a teen. All those emotions. Having to reconcile this brand new experience. Feeling like the world was running from the acknowledgment of darkness in us. Then this comes on. And I for a second was allowed to relate to what I at the time recognized as a dialogue about darkness and hurt. It’s still good.
Fucking Slipknot! Love them. They were one of the bands that helped bring back Thrash metal and bring all the Metalcore and Nu-metal kiddies to the real music. Back in the early 2000's the metal music scene was a mess, then bands like Slipknot, System of a Down, Shadows Fall, and Lamb of God started bringing back Thrash to the scene! I am eternally grateful for their service to great music! Does anybody remember Coal Chamber anymore?
I am a big CT fan, and there's nothing wrong with you not being a big fan of his, contrary to what 99% of Slipknot fans will say. He's definitely got an iconic voice in metal and his sing/scream mix has been very influential to many vocalists. As someone who greatly enjoys when bands incorporate a good mix of clean and distorted vocals, I really enjoy his performances.
Have adored Slipknot since their self-titled, they introduced me to metal and are one of the most important bands of my life, but yeah can't really stand CT. He comes across as a pretentious douche who has his head firmly stuck up his own ass.
Yeah I could never really get into them either. I feel like he sings like a contestant on The Voice or something. I can't deny it's certainly unique, but not for me! lol
Man, I remember back when ya first started, you did quite a few Slipknot breakdowns, decomposing composer🤔 I love your background screens now, yet miss the Friends ya had in the Bkgrnd
i dig slipknot but ive been looking for a certain reaction on youtube and there is ONE. only 1 person on youtube has reacted to "my last creation" by GOJIRA. i would highly enjoy watching you listen to this BANGER of a song
Geebz… Dude… Metal is being discovered and rediscovered, because of ppl like you and Elizabeth “Charismatic Voice,” stepping up and giving the respect… “Why?” The answer is in your mirror 😉🤓
Nu-metal is having a resurgence because it's just a fun genre. It's relatively uncomplicated, often very accessible, and many of the songs will still have the most pretentious people who gripe about the genre bopping their heads when nobody is looking! My old band used to play Break Stuff at our shows, and there was never a single person who wasn't 100% on board.
@@KeyOfGeebz Great, Im really looking forward to it. Thank you for the response! I was scanning the Twitch regularly looking if I missed the stream or maybe theres a vod of it, but as Im on the other side of the globe it sometimes not easy to catch your streams due to time differences
I don’t know why the resurgence of nu metal would be confounding anyone. It’s been about 20 years since the height of its popularity. These things always come round in cycles. I’d say the predictability is like clockwork.
You’re a surfer and you’ve never done “dashboard confessionals” band? 🙂 (I gotta add Evanescence!) !!their music 2005-8 was so great “Vindicated” “hands” “stollen” there’s some “summer…..” song that’s great beach oarty music
Hey Geebz not to be a downer but Ive noticed the audio bit rate (quality) has gone down significantly since you’ve been streaming the song reactions through twitch. Figured it was relevant since these vids are song analyses. Thanks for all you do!
I like "brown" Slipknot lol. Most of their big albums like Iowa, Subliminal Verses, and All Hope is Gone are mixed too bright and flat. Especially Sub. Verses because of Rick Rubin... Those albums have a lot of great songs, but mixes are terrible! My personal favorite is their debut for that reason. It has a similar mix to this track.
Why is there a nu-metal resurgence? Because culture comes in twenty year cycles, and the people who grew up with something then become people with influence and creative power in culture twenty years later.
Nu Metal. Yes. Thats the name. I think there should be no "metal" in that name. We called everything not metal as "hardcore". I think that is one word for all that short-hair sell-out music.
SILENT PLANET - ⠱⠢ ⠮ ⠢⠙ ⠆⠛⠁⠝ Either "Northern Fire" - "Vanity Of Sleep" - "The New Eternity" - "Afterdusk" - or any. A definitive must listen and read. Deep powerful lyrics (and instruments). Brace yourself for quite a journey.

Because nu metal is great metal
I would call nu metal fun metal, especially when there is scratching involved
I feel like that's part of the reason it started too

I’m 35 and I remember Coal Chamber. I don’t hear people mention them anymore. I’ve actually introduced 3 people I work with to them and SOAD.
Not the biggest CT fan, but dammit the man's a lyricist.

This reminds me of the highschool AMV watching days.

You gotta do “The one that kills the least” from this album

Did I miss Gojira album reaction that you mentioned some time ago? Or is it still coming?
It's in Patreon for now - I'll be releasing it on the channel soon :)

I haven’t really noticed it, got any good examples of nu metal bands from the 2010s?

Thanks for that - I've gotten other comments of the same nature. Perhaps a tweak in OBS or maybe just have to go back to the old way.
Corey F'ing Taylor. Amazing song!
Turn UP the volume you mean
👍👍
You absolutely need to listen to some of their live performances of songs like Purity or Gently from Disasterpieces 2002
*Nine members Geebz... Nine! 😅

nostalgia hits like that.
I started reading the new Fourth Turning so it fits
Nice! I greatly recommend Blue Swan 5 by Infected Mushroom. I know you like those guys ☺Each one of their songs is a unique adventure.
