As a huge fan of Cory Wong, and also Petar (of course), I'm just so happy that every show I've gone to over the years, they've always had Petar's kit setup all the way down-stage. It's not very often you actually get to SEE a drummer play during a live show! They are almost always positioned up-stage center where you can't see anything they are doing except hitting crash cymbals. One of the shows I went to a few years ago, I was literally standing right behind Petar and was able to watch him the whole time. It was amazing!
Been a huge fan of Petar's since he lived in Minneapolis and long before he moved to Nashville. Have seen him drum in several jazz bands and he is the real deal on the kit. Masterful fills and deep groove. And yes...I use Vic Firth sticks too (the best IMO).
This is something, that sets one instantly into a very good, and bright mood: Feet get moving, faces get smiling. Music, musicality with fun is great stuff in the world for our lifes: Priceless!
His approach to drumming is fabulous. Him and larnell Lewis have a bit of the same appearance . With clear backbeats to catch the audience. Then very musical and balanced and relaxed sprinkle stuff all around the four to the floor feeling. And just being happy. And spread joy
Oh my god…! Gotta love all these guys with their mad skills, the drummer out of this world -what a joy to watch, the horns 🔥🔥🔥, Cory’s rhythm guitar, the keys…. and you’ve gotta thank Cory for having come up with this catchy, groovy tune in the first place…
The cymbal crescendo at the end of this fill at 1:45 is so awesomely-tasteful; the cymbals are muted/choked by that last hit making that last hit (kick only) so staccato and tight I am an instant fan. That solo kick drum at the end of the cymbal accents is a perfect example of a "less is more" moment of playing. :)
WOW! What a solid performance. Loved the energy all around. Super consistent sound in the grooves and tasteful fills and breaks in between! *chef’s kiss*
It's hard to think this is all improvised. Everything he plays sounds so deliberate and forethought and it's *exactly* what the song needs every time. How?!
Seriously! I love Petar’s sound. I think what a lot of people don’t realize is, especially with a band that size, stage volume can get out of control and very very quickly at that. So I think for Petar to be able to naturally cut out, especially some of the high frequencies with muting etc. especially from the band stand, is going to help and be more advantageous for him with the idea of expelling too much sound. Gadd used to talk about the idea of everything coming from and being controlled from the band stand as opposed to from the front of the house. I think with all the advances in music tech, it has hindered and spoiled peeps with not having to really care as much about dynamic shifts and making the real music happen from their instruments. Also, it helps keep the energy more controllable while not having to sacrifice instrument volumes. The drummer drives the energy a lot of the time and a lot of people confuse the idea of playing with a lot of energy with also having to play very loud, which isn’t always the case. Plus they’re from Minneapolis, so I think they know what they’re doing because they’re all incredibly bad ass. Alright I’m getting off my soapbox. Lol. Cheers y’all.
Too good ! That was nasty. Seriously exciting to watch I loved it. Playing what's needed but keeping things interesting. Reminds me of Stanley Randolph ! Whole band is on point ! Congrats to you all
I know Cory doesn't like bright, ringing cymbals, but man I wish those cymbal mutes weren't on for this tune because those cymbals would have shined even more at the end there. Stellar playing!
Yeah, apparently Cory prefers the cymbals that way since it tames the treble-y overtones in the mix. If you want to hear Petar explain it, I think it’s in the “Gear & Rig” tour vlog video on Cory’s channel
Let me just venture a guess that Petar'd've been OK if someone else got a wee bit of camera time: Cory when he was soloing and P was timekeeping, the pianist when P was waving his arms in the air like...hjdc. Waddaya think? Pass it on next time, maybe. Otherwise, kickin'.
his playing joy is infectious to cory. and thats the most uplifting gift for his playing

Sonny T comes through so nicely in this mix. What a rhythm section.
Absolute LEGEND !!!
Amazing....and bass player too!! Everyone
Fantastičan bend, a Petar je definitivno jedan od najboljih bubnjara današnjice! Pozdrav iz Hrvatske!
Cory, Vulf, Flyers, and other associated acts... you can always tell they're just having an absolute BLAST and the energy is contagious.
Great Drummer Petar👍👍👏👏greetings from Italy👏👏

i will add this guy to my favorite drummer list
He's so tight. Played a local spot here once with Cory and nobody has ever topped that show.
Love the sound of the kit. You can hear every fucking note and they're all so pocket
One of the most entertaining drummers to watch, and also one of the best drummers right now in my opinion!
Yes. His approach to drumming is fabulous. Reminds me of larnell Lewis a lot
This is something, that sets one instantly into a very good, and bright mood: Feet get moving, faces get smiling.

Uno dei migliori batteristi in circolazione oggi.
*sniff * Tight! Tight! Tight!
Fills packed with so much flavor, you'd swear he was sweating MSG!
Funkier than peanut butter and jelly on rye bread.
Guga would agree
Uncle Roger would agree as well
the fill at 4:15 though.... Fireeeeeee
My favorite lefty drummer

Always killer! How can you not have a blast when Petar is playing!
Excellent drummer, really joy to watch.
Such a great player: Always in THE pocket, select wicked chops, and a joy to watch. The new Pearl rig sounds amazing too.
Thank you 😊 !!!!
The pocket is so deep, I've been looking for my car keys for like an hour...
It is so much fun to watch Petar play!
What a machine

that beginning was epic
So smooth!

Fixes his earpiece at :53 and misses nothing. Love his work. Just stumbled on these guys. The Paisley Park recording of Dean Town is solid gold.
WOW! What a solid performance. Loved the energy all around. Super consistent sound in the grooves and tasteful fills and breaks in between! *chef’s kiss*
Go Drummerboy!! Full Beast Mode! Love it!
The drum set sounds amazing, especially toms!
SWEET. Hugs from Mexico, Petar! LET'S GO VF TEAM!
Killing it! Yes.
It's hard to think this is all improvised. Everything he plays sounds so deliberate and forethought and it's *exactly* what the song needs every time. How?!
I just love this song! Besides Petars amazing drumming the tune just makes me happy and wanna dance. 🥁❤️
Cory's band is super dope
This guy 💪. I definitely appreciate when a musician is enjoying what they are playing.
This guy is so masterful… i want to be at his level some day
Yeeaah Petar! Nice! Positiv vibes and so much energy makes him unique.
See ya in Berlin soon...keep it funky!
Casually pushing his glasses up he has a free half-second is what it's all about
He was so fun to watch live
I got to play more open-handed. I know he's a lefty, but reflecting on his playing makes me see all the options I close myself to.
See lots of comments about the over-muted kit... Am I the only the one who REALLY likes the sound of it?
lol No you are not. 😂😂

Is this the show at the Vic theater in Chicago? I was there on the balcony!
Unfortunately not, the video description says this was in Boston.
@@DrBackBeat thanks they must have updated it
We all need clothing with pockets like that folks
What's with the voodoo puppets hanging from the crashes?
Less sustain, he likes dark cymbals

Woow. This guy is working in a Michelin star Restaurant...
This is absolutely amazing! So white :)
What?
White? Wtf?
I wonder if he likes Dom Famularo??
Absolutely fucking ridiculous pocket. Sweet mother of Mary, Joseph AND Mohammed.
Dudes playin is incredible and tasty but the over muted gear ruins it for me
Don’t see too many lefties.
