I love that you remove your rings when cooking. So many people on RUclips don't when they are using their hands mixing things when cooking. For me it's a must. Much more hygienic and easier on the jewellery. The pie will be yummy. Thank you for sharing.

Have to share a giggle with you my friend. I’m watching from Canada, and as one does, puttering at the same time with my ear bud in so you come with me when I walk away from my screen for a tic. So I’m filling my coffee and I swear I hear you say “I have to decide whether to top it with a full top or with lettuce”! I said pardon? Rewind! Oh! She said “lattice”! Most of the time I have no issue at all with the NZ accent but that one made me chuckle at myself so I had to be sure to share.😂🇨🇦❤️. Love you my new sister in all things kitchen and the rest of you too, have a super day! Xoxoxo ❤️

I have 5 apple trees in my backyard. They gave me 5 25 gallon totes last year. I made apple butter, apple sauce, apple juice, apple pie filling and apple slices. I canned all of them. I was sick of apples by the end but I am enjoying everything I put up last fall.

I have made pies for years. What i will do with my cores and perls is put them in the freezer (pears and peach peels too) and i will make jelly out of it at a later date. Its kind of like making jelly for just the cost of the sugar. And it reduces food waste. And it tastes so good ❤

I never thought of freezing pie filling in a pie pan. Great idea! I don't know why it didn't occur to me, because I freeze casseroles in my casserole dish that way so that when I'm ready to cook them, they fit into the casserole dish. I even sometimes freeze soup in my soup bowl, so I can drop the frozen puck of soup into the bowl and zap it in the microwave, to save washing a pot.
If you're short on jars, you can freeze applesauce. Since becoming disabled, I can't do much canning anymore, but I prefer homemade applesauce, so I just freeze it. I have half cup freezer container cubes for single serving or for cooking. Oh, and applesauce is an oil replacement in baked goods (or use both for a nicely moist, rich cake). I also like to add it to curry.
I just bought apples. The cheapest were US$5.99 for a 3 pound bag. That's NZ$7.17 per kilo. Now, I know apples are in season in NZ right now, but still... I have serious apple envy.

Here in the southern US it is peach season, and a town about 30 minutes over has a peach festival every year. I am planning to buy as many as I can get into the Mustang and bringing those babies home and freezing them. If I want fresh peach cobbler in the winter by golly I will have the peaches to make it! I also like using the same peach cobbler filling recipe as a topping on waffles. I *MAY* even make some ice cream. Peaches are my favorite! I would do apples but the family really isn't into them - I seem to be the only one that eats them regularly and my preferred way to eat them is just to slice them, and pair with an extra sharp cheddar cheese, for a snack or even a meal. I like how you do the apples in bulk like this, especially when they are in season. It's good to see you more mobile and pain-free, you are clearly feeling better! Love & to you and Husband!

Hi Stacey, this is another great video resource! We have had some terrible weather here in Gisborne, N.Z. The high winds were the worst I’ve seen. As a result I made the most of my mothers ballarat apple tree & the tree fallen fruit. I made (2) lots of apple pie filling that I put into food saver bags, (1) lot frozen into the shape of my pie plate & (1) for me to cook for my moko to enjoy now that its the primary school holidays. I’ve made some sweet short crust pastry & plan to make an apple pie tomorrow with whipped cream & ice cream. I peeled the skin of all my apples & sliced & dehydrated some apple. I put these in water mixed with some lime juice (I have a lime tree) & sprinkled cinnamon on these. Seeing your little baggies of instant oats video it gave me an idea to do some of these with dehydrated apple - I’m thinking apple, cinnamon & walnut would be yummy to do. I made some apple butter using granny smith apples off my neighbours tree which was delicious. I made this in my instapot. I’m lucky - all the apples I get are free. I have a new found appreciation of this. I am in the middle of juicing all my limes & oranges that were hit by these high winds. My purchase of a juicer from Kmart makes short work of this - its so good & was cheap! Briscoes recently had a sale so I scored my apple corer from there. Thank you for the awesome content! 😊🎉

I’ve made full Apple pies when apples are plentiful here, and then just wrap them really well and freeze them unbaked…they bake up well from frozen and are really handy to have on hand. I like your idea to freeze the apples in pie-shapes, which makes it easier to make a quick pie as well.

I love applebutter, but none of the commercial ones. They're awful, so I never bought. After many many years, I finally made it myself and tweaked per a family rumor on how my great aunts made it. They always added a small amount (I guessed) of the juice from canned pie cherries. Otherwise I used the recipe from Heartway Farms RUclips "Four Ways to Put Up Apples." I used this because their recipe included cane sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt, as well as vanilla. It turned out fabulous.

Please, where are you? I’m in Australia, and ABSOLUTELY LOVE GRAVENSTEIN APPLES. They have the Best Flavour of all apples ( in my opinion) When I was a kid (many moons ago) My younger sister and I would go to our great aunt’s, who was in her nineties at the time and lived at Ballnarring, on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. The area was famous for fruit orchards and APPLES. Now full of wineries.
When I ask about Gravenstein apples, people look at me with a blank expression on their faces. NO IDEA what I’m talking about.
I now live in NSW, but still get down to Melbourne to see my daughters, siblings and the rest of my relatives.

I Googled about applesauce and found this:
About ¼ cup of applesauce can work as an egg replacement in baking for dense baked goods like brownies or cookies. While you can use applesauce in sweets like cakes and cupcakes, you may need to add an extra ½ teaspoon of baking powder to your dry ingredients to create a light and airy final product.

Yum the crumble looks delicious. Do I understand correctly that you use corn flour and not wheat flour? I’m curious because I’ve never heard of that and I have gluten sensitivity so that would be great for me with a gluten free crust.

You can use either, I like to use the corn flour as it doesn't clump like plain flour in this instance.

Did you feel a bit naked today! You were missing your apron! I still have a few of my Nan's aprons! I think of her in her kitchen cooking up a storm! She was an amazing cook! She could have made an old boot taste delicious! I love crumble with custard and cream! I sometimes have it for breakfast!

If I were to make up some crumbles for the freezer, would it be best to bake, cool, freeze... Or better to freeze raw and bake when wanting to eat it?

Wondering about you not wanting to let food touch the aluminium.
Is that simply a personal choice or a food safe/texture choice?

My Mum would make apple jelly from the peels and cores. I think she boiled them up first, then strained them, added sugar in equal quantities and tested like a jam set. We could spread it on toast like jam.

Here you go Stacey, I believe it tells you about what applesauce replaces in baking. So good to see another video. I’m a relatively new fan of your channel. I really love it. 💕 simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_sauce#:~:text=Apple%20sauce%20can%20be%20used%20in%20baking%20as%20a%20substitute%20for%20fat%20%28such%20as%20butter%20or%20oil%29%20or%20eggs.
