I bet when you finally lay your head down in bed for the night - you feel SO ACCOMPLISHED with EVERYTHING you do in a day!! It AMAZES me how many things you coordinate, cook, can, and preserve!! You are an InCrEdIbLe woman!!
I second and third that! I so enjoy having her in my life and I learn so much from her. She is such a loving soul. Greatful she shares her life with us 💕
I have never heard that Sunflowers had a negative impact in a garden. I was always told about their benefits to the garden. Like you showed with the celery, have had anything grown next to them do beautifully. Thank you for sharing your garden.
What sunflowers do is drink an enormous amount of water. In a drier climate like here in California they can deprive plants around them and the plants can stunt.
Last year there was a long hot dry spell in the UK and the Netherlands. My no-dig raised beds have the bottom part filled with sand. Every bed with sunflowers in them suffered severely. In previous years I did not notice negative effects. Conclusion: no more sunflowers in my raised beds: they are thirsty monsters that claim too much water
Chelsea , I am so happy to have met you on youtube. I am very late to the party with regards to canning at 63 yr old. I would be at the farmers market seeing people taking away lots of produce. I was always wondering what they would be making. At the beginning of covid my youngest child passed away. With covid I was so sad and very lonely. I decided I needed a hobby thus I dud tons if research to learn about the process. My first few tries I made some salsa, plum jam and 🍎 butter. My girls went mad about these things I made abd wanted more. This year I spread my wings and have preserved many new things. I found your canning and preserving videos and thoroughly enjoyed them. I do listen to all you say. I remember you mentioning what can do with tomato skins so I looked it up and am dehydrating it today. I also enjoyed learning about fermented garlic and honey. I will be making tomorrow. You also mentioned about making a salve. What was that for? You are an amazing person. And I enjoy your love for nature and animals. I live in saskatchewan so quite different landscape from where you live. ❤
My mom made the best homemade bread. I have 2 sisters and none of us could every make her bread. My niece is the only one who could make it like my mom. You are such an awesome lady you work all the time and everything you make looks delicious.
You have my full respect. Your work, your dedication for your farm, animals and channel, is amazing. I had watched some "family vloggers", and I know how easy it would be for you to make money off of showing your kids, but you choose not to. Your heart is pure, your soul is full of kindness and you are way too wise for this world. Big big hugs.
Oh my goodness Chealsea❣️ I just found you a couple days ago when you are canning all your tomatoes. Ad I listened to you telling of all your animals besides your beautiful garden. YOU ARE DEFINATELY A PROVERBS 31 women❣️❣️❣️
oh and I made your celery soup (twice now) and it was a HUGE hit here. My husband, who was very sceptical when I said I was making celery soup said that it was delicious.
I love the voices of your children! It is so comforting to hear the activity they add to some of your videos. I find you to be a wonderful example of God's Grace and Blessings. Thank you for taking the journey in bringing us pieces of your life.
Oh gosh I have never ever had an issue with sunflowers everywhere either. Always put them near things. And if things go bad one year or so, it is just because of the weather etc yes. I will never stop growing them either. I think they make our gardens feel happy too :) Oh that bread looks soooooooooo yummy. And so does everything. hugs
Add a peeled potato to your soup pot to absorb the extra salt. I live in the States in the Appalachian region, and the older folks would say, "Throw a tater in there." It works. We love our taters in Appalachia.
Old wives’ tale. And I say this as an old wife: the potato doesn’t “absorb” the salt; it’s simply very bland (so it needs lots of salt) and it adds extra volume to the food so the salt has more food to season. Yes, a potato pr two MAY help your over salted dish, but it’s not magical.
I love tarragon chicken. My recipe is from the old famous Canadian chef Madame Benoit of Quebec. I cannot hear tarragon without thinking of her. Brown chicken pieces in butter. Add tons of sliced onions and garlic add salt and pepper. Add lots of tarragon fresh or dried. Cover frying pan turn the heat to medium low for about 45 minutes. Make a gravy with the lovely juices and pour over mashed potatoes, rice or noodles.
Madame Benoit was my great grandmother from Quebec she was a wonderful chef I have all of her cookbooks she wrote over her life time my favorite recipe being Salmon Pie ... nice to hear someone who knew her
Oh my goodness, I loved Madame Benoit. Her accent when she spoke English was adorable. I use her recipes for tourtiere, pumpkin pie, brownies and many more. My sister and I never missed her TV program. 💕
Hi, I take my celery tops and make veggie broth from them, I also add the onion skins, carrot skins and water. I cook that down , let the broth cool and strain the veggie junk from the liquid , put in 4 cups of veggie broth into a gallon size freezer bag.
Soak your garlic cloves in warm water for a few minutes, drain and then keep moist until you’re finished peeling. It makes all the difference in the world!
Watching you make cream of celery soup has me craving my grandma's salmon loaf; the condensed version of the soup is both part of the binding in the loaf/ring and the sauce. Canned Tuna Ring Made Tastier With Lemons Combine 2 cans undiluted cream of celery soup with 3t grated lemon peel and 2T fresh lemon juice. Mix 1.5cups of soup mixture with 2 cans tuna (6.5oz size; substitution 1 can salmon with bones and skin removed), 1 pkg stuffing (14oz size), and 2 eggs slightly beaten. Turn into greased ring mold. Bake 350F for 45 mins. Heat remaining soup mixture, serve as sauce. Grams usually added another can of soup and diluted the reserved portion for sauce so that we'd have plenty of sauce to go around with our family of 5 and always served it with sweet peas. 😋
Beautiful sunflowers! They actually remediate contaminated soil by pulling contaminants (especially environmental toxins such as herbicides) out of the ground making it healthier. I have never had plants suffer from being close to sunflowers. Just the opposite. Also you are spot on with the collards. They will send their sugars to the leaves after a good frost . I live in SC and we never pull them until after a heavy frost . 😊
This is the first year I have planted sunflowers and they did stunt the growth of the zinnias next to them, but I think it was because they took up so much of the water.
Oh I’m sure and zinnias in my experience needs lots of water and sun. So they could be shading them as well. Of course we are hot and can be dry as well. You just have to figure out what works best on your land . I’m also growing sunflowers close to zinnias. Mine seem fine as long as they get plenty of water . I hope yours grow beautifully next year . 🌻
Brilliant tip using parchment under the tea towel and a easy fix later oiling the paper or tops of bread before your second rise. Have to try the soup love celery.
well we know that if you crumple up a sheet of parchment paper into a tight ball then wet it down . works well for many things . it will make the bottom of cakes and things odd looking . but nothing will stick and you do not have to wreastle the paper staight
While watching this….it’s almost 9pm I have sourdough bread in the oven and borscht in the canner. I used to be a chef before and one of the restaurants I worked at served celery soup but it had a little curry in it. It also was very good. I bet your house smells so good, great video Chelsea, thanks for making my evening 🌷🇨🇦
I am not a homesteader but I absolutely love listening to you and you have a true gift of being able to connect with people. I find myself instinctively smiling and giggling along with you. My 85 year old mother stopped by and watched just a few minutes of one video and immediately said "She is very practical and I admire that, we would be friends." Even though I don't homestead I do have about 14 chickens, most are right at 8 years old and in "hen-o-pause". I could harvest them but they're more like pets so I let them live out their lives in comfort since they gave me so many yummy eggs over the years. I also have 3 big ole, 100 lb pet pigs who are also spoiled. I used to keep bees but donated all of my supplies to the local 4-H center this year. Does you area have a hard time with mites? It is impressive that your bees do so well over the winter months. Do you ever have put hay bales around their hives?
I find red Russian garlic to be one of the easier ones to peel simply because the cloves are so big. I just trim the root edge off and then lightly tap the clove with the side of my knife and it usually comes off in one or two big pieces. I get my red Russian garlic from a local farmer in my area.
There is a little trick how to peel garlic faster. Cut off the ends on both sides of the garlic clove. Take a large knife and flatten the clove of garlic with the flat side. Then you can easily peel off the shell. Lovely greetings Madi
Hello sweet lady. Im canning green beans and peaches today. 50 lbs of tomatoes tomorrow. Me and you are alike. We have cows and chickens and I can alot. We are both busy bodies. Plus I have a job at the rubber plant working 10 hours a day 4 and sometimes 5 days a week. Up at 3 and in bed by 7:30. Weekends are for canning,so not much rest, lol. It is so nice to watch your videos
Garlic also lowers blood pressure when eaten raw. I started making raw garlic in honey 5 years ago for my husband's immune system. He had been on high blood pressure medication for 12 years. After eating raw garlic every day for 6 months he no longer needed medication for high blood pressure. He has been eating 2 cloves of raw garlic now every day for 5 years. Also he's never been sick with cold or any virus.
Hi 🙋🏻♀️ I just love your videos. My dogs ate my pumpkins. Lol. And I have a lot sunflowers as well. Also mine are all like yours. Natures natural bouquet topped bush. Lol. They are bushy you’re right. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Haha was that Dan letting his mam 'escape'? It's nice of them how they did that to not interrupt you with filming :) My MIL would never be able to do something like that. Hence every time she shows up unannounced we have to drop everything right there on the spot coz she 'blessed' us with her presence.
Thank you ! I tried the parchment paper over my rising dough....but also added a little spray when using it on the rising bun stage. Worked like a charm!
Our sunflowers reseeded from the ones we grew last year. So many!!!! But they are near the back so mostly weeds there. Haven't noticed anything hurting any other plants. Blessings

I just came across your site a few days ago. I have been watching as many as I can. Great info. Loving it. I like your cookbook. I think I will wait until the hardback comes in stock again.
I love your 🌻 sunflowers. I love your bee balm it is a different color than the usual red. I hav tried to grow different colors in Vermont USA and they all died. My red grows like crazy. This year i did not put up hummingbird feeders. I was sitting in my living room and they were in the bee balm more than i have ever seen before. usually they fight at the feeders but the bee balm is so big multiples could eat at the same time. I look so forward to your pantry and basement tour.
Oh I enjoyed your tour of the sunflowers to see if they affected the growth of other plants around them as I have read that a lot as well! And I have celery soup on my menu plan today but never made it before! This has been a great timing video 😀 Thank you.
I live in the wet tropics of northern Australia, the sugar cane farms use sunflowers sometimes in crop rotation of their paddocks. This I believe is to increase the sub soil community of organisms/fungi/animals etc. As sugar cane is a monoculture crop the diversity of the two sub soil communities is said to help build up resistance to pests.
I've needed to make bread all weekend your video motivated me to get it done. I really loved that cream of celery soup looked so delicious. Can't wait to see how the fermented garlic goes I would like to try a batch of that as well. I love sunflowers to they just make you smile. I'm off to work on my apple challenge for September. Two meals a day must include apples. The only time on Guam we get a good selection of Apples is when their at the height of the season in North America. This is my third year doing it and I save money, lose weight, and come up with some interesting recipes. Have a beautiful week. Hope the weather holds.
I was hoping to see your recipe in the show notes, saving this to watch again and catch ingredients amounts. Might have to check the cookbook to see if it's included.
You could grab a couple used bread machines at thrift store and run those during summer. Won’t heat up the house and still have fresh bread and IT does all the kneading lol
I love tarragon with eggs and omelettes. It's a wonderful Accompaniment to eggs and chicken. I use just a tiny small bit because I don't want to overpower the flavor of the eggs. But it gives that certain French something.
I have a garden bed 4' X 65ish' One side of it was sunflowers & we tucked tomatoes, celery, lettuces, micro-greens, beans & herbs into that bed as well. The sunflowers averaged out at about 11' and the only thing that suffered at all, was the beans... until a sunflower fell in a storm & granted the beans more sunlight.
I live in Montana and all my sunflowers had multiple heads too this year! As well as my pickling cucumbers did terribly for some reason!! Last year my zucchini did terrible.
Your garden brings me so much joy😊 I love going along with you each video! Everything you made looks delicious. I love garlic but it doesn't love me! I'd love to try the fermented garlic this winter.
Great video 👍👍 Can I ask about the eggs in the bread what does it add please? My mouth was watering at all the cooking. Love your style of cooking, good wholesome food ❤❤👏👏👏👏 Love from the UK x
It is definitely a busy canning time of the year. I am canning applesauce right now, previous to that was zucchini relish, green beans, potatoes. Thanks for the great many videos, love to see what others are doing on their farms.
Glad you made the soup. Your celery is so healthy and big. I got some ForJar lids using your code and while on there I also got the cook book they had for canning recipes. Was looking through them and so many I want to try. Many are smaller batches so maybe will try some for holiday gifts. One I saw was green tomato ketchup. Thought that might be an interesting try.
As far as the sunflower's impeding the growth of other plants. As far as I understand it, it actually only affects the germination of seeds. With transplants, it doesn't affect anything,
I've never heard of sunflowers doing harm to plants I have planted them at the end of each row in my garden , I had at least 20 rows of things and the sunflowers came up some 10ft tall, it was beautiful Lots of compliments..
Hi have you ever made Nasturtium sauce 1/2 lb nasturtium flowers 1pt vinegar 4 shallots 3 cloves 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper Soy sauce to taste Put flowers in large jar . Simmer vinegar with spices, pour over flowers, cover closely and stand for 2 months. Strain add soy sauce to taste then bottle and cork.
I just love how real you keep things,my towel stuck to my bread the other day what a mess,I tossed the towel ! Lessons. Where did you order the organic garlic from?
I bet when you finally lay your head down in bed for the night - you feel SO ACCOMPLISHED with EVERYTHING you do in a day!!

That little voice saying "it smells yummy", be still my heart!!❤With warm bread to dip in the cream of celery soup....heaven.
I think all those beautiful volunteer sunflowers grew as a thank you for not selling the ranch❤
Awwwww the sweet little voice joining you today.... ❤❤❤❤❤

I use dollar store shower caps that last forever and I stay the bread with water and cover with the cap and pull it out high and bread never sticks

Cream of Celery…lovely. Fabulous job on the bread. You fast chopper! Lol. Add a potato in the soup to absorb some of the salt.

We have fields of sunflowers in our area, and oh are they gorgeous 😍. They are the happiest of flowers by far!!
Chelsea I would loved to have taste your celery soup and a big slice of that bread you were slicing .Melt in your mouth. Thanks again.🌺🌺🌺
I was in the mood for dinner rolls - just got them out of the oven. The house smells SO good on our rainy day
The beeswax cloth covers work great on rising bread! Nonstick and reusable!
Lucky children having a mom like you that cares so much about what they eat. That soup looks amazing . Thanks for sharing 😀

That’s what I was taught. Add a potato.
I was coming to say this - a potato (or two) cooked in the liquid then discarded will save any over salted meal!!

From the garden, straight into the pot. Amazes me every time. Seeing the cows from that distance doesn’t work for me. Lol. ❤
I love tarragon chicken. My recipe is from the old famous Canadian chef Madame Benoit of Quebec. I cannot hear tarragon without thinking of her. Brown chicken pieces in butter. I love your son's sound effects for you chopping celery. It made me laugh! I have been enjoying his other edits as well. Well done
Hello darling, I also want such a nice bowl of soup from you. That looks so good, many greetings from Belgium😍🍀
TFS. Caution on processing horseradish: make sure you are working in a well ventilated area (outside best) esp if grinding! Best of luck.

I always love watching your videos I learn a ton from u
Honey fermented garlic also makes lovely garlic butter. Great for dipping pizza crust in!
Hello sweet lady. Im canning green beans and peaches today. 50 lbs of tomatoes tomorrow. Me and you are alike. We have cows and chickens and I can alot. We are both busy bodies. To my understanding cucumbers, squash, lettuce, peas and beans all pair well with sunflowers and won't be damaged by the sunflower allelopathy.
You inspire me so much Chelsea. You are amazing. Dan and the kids are so blessed.
That bread … 🤤
Just love watching you ❤️😊
I think your mystery flower is a sunflower.

Hence every time she shows up unannounced we have to drop everything right there on the spot coz she 'blessed' us with her presence.
Thank you ! I tried the parchment paper over my rising dough....but also added a little spray when using it on the rising bun stage. Worked like a charm!
Honey garlic is awesome. So is fresh ginger honey.
Your garden is so beautiful! Thanks for bringing us along. Also would love to know where you got your overalls from 😊
My sweet 100 cherry tomato is going crazy and it's under three huge sunflowers.

Can’t wait to see your process for the horseradish sauce. It can be so potent!
I mix my horseradish with sourcream, to dilute it. It's so good!
It's definitely a sunflower. It looks smaller, probably because it doesn't have enough room to grow. It usually happens with to little water.
Sunflowers helped to pull toxins from your soil, and to help it not to put toxic chemical in your soil
Loved every minute.
When garlic is hard to peel, I use a paring knife to hook the edge of the peel.
Can you please write down the friend that is making the jar openers! Great to see you! Have a blessed weekend!💕🤗💕
Calendula ! Pretty sure that’s the flower you questioned
You can use some of the tomato leaves for tomato pesto and to freeze dry/dehydrate for spice or soups
I had heard that thought on sun flowers, but I dismissed it. Never had a problem.

You could grab a couple used bread machines at thrift store and run those during summer. Won’t heat up the house and still have fresh bread and IT does all the kneading lol
For peeling garlic, you can cut the bottom root part off and put them in a mason jar. Shake well and it’ll actually loosens the peel and comes off.
I love tarragon with eggs and omelettes. It's a wonderful Accompaniment to eggs and chicken. I use just a tiny small bit because I don't want to overpower the flavor of the eggs. But it gives that certain French something.
Trick put in 1 small peeled whole potato in your pot it will absorb your excess salt for you just take out the potatoe when you're done cooking
Or if you blend it all together the potato will make the soup even creamier!
Bread and soup looked fantastic!! Always amazes me how much you get accomplished.
Have you tried growing solo garlic before? It's one large clove, no peeling individual cloves.
I live in Montana and all my sunflowers had multiple heads too this year! As well as my pickling cucumbers did terribly for some reason!! Last year my zucchini did terrible.

Spray a little oil to wipe around on the parchment paper to keep it from sticking.
I needed to be prepare garlic and honey also homemade elderberry syrup for the cold weather.
Thank you.
Your garden brings me so much joy😊 I love going along with you each video! Everything you made looks delicious. I love garlic but it doesn't love me! I'd love to try the fermented garlic this winter.
Sunflowers are definitely a soil cleanser, and I've never noticed them inhibit the growth of any other plant around them in my garden.
I thought they cleansed the soil too. If this is the case, it would seem odd to harm nearby plants.
Fabulous recipes as usual 😋.
I just found your channel, I’m really enjoying watching you harvest and preserve. Your amazing! ❤
I also make garlic honey, I love it tsp everyday😊
If you ever over salt something put a peeled potato in it . The potato absorbs the salt
I hope you’ll video when you dig potatoes. I love those.
As far as the sunflower's impeding the growth of other plants. As far as I understand it, it actually only affects the germination of seeds. With transplants, it doesn't affect anything,
Do you have a video on how you use all your flowers? How you use them? What you make with them?
I don’t but I will soon.
I've never heard of sunflowers doing harm to plants
I have planted them at the end of each row in my garden , I had at least 20 rows of things and the sunflowers came up some 10ft tall, it was beautiful
Lots of compliments..

Where did you order the organic garlic from?
if you add some potatoes to your soup it wont taste salty anymore. you can do the same with onion like you did with your garlic.
