Love, love you and your channel, the ranch is wonderful. Having grown up on the farm and left at age 17, I have never stopped loving the life that I left. Much older now and unable to be part of such a life, I live it through you and your beautiful home and family. You can never know how it makes my heart and soul bloom with joy. Thank you, Dianne
Thank you so much for sharing that.♥️
I love old cookbooks, too! I have a cookbook from the 1890s passed down from my great-great-grandmother. It's not just a cookbook, it's about remedies and treatments for illnesses, beauty products (the cold cream calls for sperm), household sanitation, and how to be a housewife. It is really fascinating!
you really have a nice aura to you, that is very cheerful, and calm. You however, are a multitasking hero! those recipes are so yummy!
Ooh 😲 vintage recipes are my favourite way to learn about culture!! Thanks for being a person of inquiry ❤
Oh my gosh, I have that grey cookbook!!! Mine has a green cover, but I have never seen another one. I actually got to follow along with you on this recipe. Love your vintage cookbooks!!
I'm a fairly new viewer and I must say I keep finding myself binge watching. Your videos are so calm and in such a beautiful area! Thank you for sharing your sanctuary with us. And for the education as well. I hope to learn enough over the summer to grow a garden in the spring. Wish me luck! 😂
Your enthusiasm for the farming life is contagious. I’m not a morning person, so know it wouldn’t work for me, but I love sharing those days with you. Thank you. Your property is beautiful.
I am 68 and still learning. Love how you made that hash. Thank you so much.
Have you seen Anna's RUclips over at Cooking the Books? She does all vintage recipes from vintage cookbooks. She even uses vintage pyrex, corellle, etc. So fun!
Love vintage recipes too! My favorites are depression era. My mom was a young homemaker near the end of the depression and I like to think she might have made something similar. One recipe she made was creamed tuna over toast. Both kids and grand kids liked this for dinner. And my go to when, it’s time for dinner and I just walked in the door. One of the children was on toast detail, I was on the stove detail. First make a white sauce, butter, flour and milk. When thick like gravy add the tuna, you will know when you have enough in and lastly add peas. As you like. Frozen is the best. Not too much stirring serve over the toast. Very simple!
I love vintage cookbooks for the same reasons. And yes, the nostalgia of it all is a trip.
As you use the plastic jars, you could repurpose them on the windowsill (with the lids underneath) as little herb pots. ❤
Such a cute idea!
Chelsea, I'm another Nostalgia Cookbook Collector: I hope that you are adding your own notes to these 'oldies' as well as annotating your own copies of your family cookbook(s) so that future generations will appreciate them as well!!!
That is the BEST idea! I had it in my mind that writing in them would be wrong somehow, but how cool for someone in 50 years to see my notes, too!
Good little food grade containers to reuse for nut snacks on the go. Also to store smalls of spices to keep out of the light.
Don't forget you can "enhance" shampoos with herbs good for smell or hair health. I currently have a rosemary and mint infusing. For a body wash I use castile soap, either infused with mint or my current one "cooking" is hibiscus, rose and raw honey. Just pop your herbs in, leave in a dark place until you want it, strain and use. I tend to leave mine minimum of 12 weeks.
You can also add a few drops of lavender oil, that's healthy for your skin too.
I also have rosemary/mint shampoo. Mint is so refreshing from head to toe.
I lived next to a farm growing up and I love seeing you gardens and all of the animals!!
C, I love your videos...look forward to you everyday. I appreciate that you prepare, cook & show us your meals from your great vintage cook books. Your world is so magical...your farm animals are precious ...Blessings to you & your family
Thanks for sharing your feelings about the old cookbooks; I’m 71 & have my Mom’s old cookbooks & appreciate them for the simplicity! It’s also fun to guess what an “egg sized piece of butter” looks like😅 I collect & dry my herbs & plants & store them & garden seeds in nice little plastic containers (labelled with masking tape. Those baking powder containers may be handy for storing seeds, etc. in. Blessings to everyone 🤗💕🇨🇦
Hello from Georgia in the US. Chelsey, always enjoy your cooking episodes and seeing all the animals. Thank you for sharing all your adventures; stay well.
I love your cookbook. Is it possible when you cook a vintage recipe to take a snapshot of it and share it with us. It would be fun to make it.
Sure!
I love your story about the old cookbooks. I have my MIL's Settlement cookbook from 1945. I treasure it. I also have a number of old recipe books put out by church ladies. I love them too.. I love your channel.
Some more mouth watering experiences!😊
I loved the tour of your farm & animals, even though I’ve been subscribed for a long time! 🤗💗🇨🇦
Love those old cookbooks. So much history and stories that must have been made in those homes and farms. I always enjoy the tours you have and seeing the animals. Great channel. Your family is adorable. God bless
Morning Chelsea, the sun shining through your patio door is absolutely beautiful. In Wisconsin this morning the temperature is single digits and windy winter has landed. Burrrr😊
I can eat a couple of eggs cooked anyway and stay full almost all day. 😊😊😊
Hi Chelsea
I love how you narrate your videos showing us all your farm animals… and your farm.. it’s huge…you are a true country farm wife and mom… and a great cook and you work so hard for your family.. I am 72 and never lived on a farm but, I really relate to your story and your life.. maybe I lived on a farm in a past life ..
Take care and I hope your winter is not too bad.. watching you from Annapolis Maryland USA
Seeing the cows made my day!!!
What a beautiful day you shared, love the old cookbooks and I've never been disappointed with the recipes. Love the tour of your property and I can truly understand why you love it.
I know nothing about farming, so this was so interesting to me. Thank for sharing. I just found your channel about a month ago and I am enjoying it so much.
Thank you for the farm tour. Agree the farm gives a LOT of peace. Even with the weaning, and Mama dried up so she was ready to be out of that "mom" mode for now. With the size of "her" calf, she was ready, but he wanted to be a "mama's boy".
Some cheeses have only trace amounts of lactose, if any. Plus when it is cooked, many people can tolerate it better. My daughter is lactose intolerant and does okay most of the time with cheeses and baked goods. If she has lots of dairy in a day or ice cream or something, she takes lactase pills (you can get them at any drug store or grocery store). If you also plan on making cheese stuff, spinach pairs well to help combat lactose.
Love the bunkie. That has come together so fast! It is really awesome Dan is up for all those projects! It would be nice to know someone with those skills near me!
I love the smell of old books.
Thank you for sharing your ladies with us! They certainly look happy ❤️
Your wintersun in your kitchen is very nice👍🌺👍🌺👍🌺
All your animals are soooo beautiful and look so happy and healthy!! Thanks for showing us around your lovely homestead!! 💕🔥🔥🔥
Compliments on your interior design, from that wide angle shot of the background, the design elements flow beautifully from your living/family room across all the spaces, right into your bright, cheerful and very functional kitchen. That hash looked 👀 downright delicious 😋.
Ive watched a lot of your videos but today was special. I was doing some kitchen work and felt like we were cooking side by side on a sunny but cold morning. ❤ just had to share.
I love that, thank you. I liked this video too, for some reason.
Thank you Chelsea for a wonderful video!❤️
Нахожу все большп и больше сходства😁😁😁Моя мама тоже родила меня совершенной блондинкой, а к 12 годам я стала мовершеннной брюнеткой, м к 30 годам стала рыжей. Я - коровка хамелеон!
I have that cookbook, 1935. In my copy, there's an explanation of the baking powder types on page 8 of the bread chapter. At least a clue for further research. Your scones look delicious!
Glad I took time out of my busy morning to enjoy your farm tour. Thank you for the peace, beauty and connection to nature.
Great to see you! Thanks for sharing as always!!😊
Yumsville!!
The baking powder containers can be used for seeds if you save seeds from your garden
I do the same with little supplement bottles😊 I also store kitchen herbs & tea blends in them.
we save all those white jars (what your baking powder came in) they are great for dehydrated herbs (or freeze dried)- they keep the light out- my husband also stores his extra seeds in them
I always love the farm tours. The hash and scones looked so good. Thank you for your videos. I truly appreciate you.❤
I love vintage and antique items and the history they hold. I always wonder when I'm holding an item or walking through an old building, what stories they could tell, if only they could speak. I think I found out too late that I should've been a historian of some sort because I LOVE to research the history of items, places, and people...I have MANY vintage and antique cookbooks and other items....it's a good thing (I guess) that I live in a small house, because I would be dangerous if we had the room...lol...I truly enjoy and look forward to each and every one of your vlogs! 💚💙
My tiny potatoes I took in and washed before they dried. I have them stored separate to use them up first.
I make my own Castile soap from scratch a few gallons at a time. I use a dedicated roaster oven. It does take several hours. I have a skin care company and use the most of it for liquid hand soap. I make a shampoo body bar as well from lye and oils. I make about 12 pounds at a time. I put in a lot of hair healthy ingredients. It is so easy just to have one bar in the shower.
Really love it when you cook from the old cookbooks 🥰❣️I have a couple I use regularly- one from the Quaker women of a church I used to attend about 50 years ago here in Southern California!
It was lovely to have a walk around your property, it gives a better perspective on where you live. I live in Newcastle which is about a couple of hundred miles north of Sydney, Australia. It is a city set on a beautiful coast and although it was very industrial with steel works, it isn't now as they have all closed down and we just love living here. We are close to the countryside, mountains, lake and ocean. It is hard to imagine the Winters you experience as it doesn't snow here. We had a cabin on a property in the New England area of New South Wales and the property looks very similar, some of our best times were spent on the farm. Thank you for your wonderful videos, I look forward to each of them.
Fantastic video. I collect old vintage cookbooks also. I have a lot of my maternal and paternal grandmothers and thier clipped recipes also.
Loved everything about today's video - and your very friendly attitude and outlook.
Hi Chelsea just wanted to say hi from England Somerset,my name is Lorraine,I was thinking u could repurpose the little pots ur powder came in to keep ur seeds in for the future,I also wanted to say how much I love watching ur channel,I loved seeing ur garden grow and change and how u preserve all the Beautiful produce that comes from the garden.xx
Love love love the vintage cookbooks and recipes! So excited you are sharing more this winter.
Thank you so very much for sharing the recipes!! I will be trying this one soon!! I do love the walk around your homestead!! Thank you again for letting us be a part of your days!!
It was awesome to see all the ladies and gents. Everyone looks so healthy!
Such a good idea to pre-bake the potatoes. I usually boil them before baking or frying to speed up baking time, but I like this idea. Saves me a pot to clean. 🍲
The baking powder containers are cute and I would definitely find a reuse for them 😊
Thank-you,it was great to see your property
Always lovely to get a farm tour, and the sheep are the cutest imaginable. We also are greatly enjoying your cookbook, and I can confirm that potato hash is delicious…we’ve even had it for supper.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!
Crispy bits !!!
Always!!
Hi Just watched your breakfast video, we have scones all the time here in Australia Tamworth NSW, I find the more you work the scone dough the less rise and tougher scone. As soon as it comes together cut out and bake. Just what we find. Xx love you videos
Always a pleasure to watch.
I love when you give farm tours. It’s so peaceful.
Question: where are the horses? Do they come in at night and during winter?
They were in the south field and can get out of the elements.
The hash browns and scones look so yummmmmmy 🇨🇦😋
Would love the salad dressing recipe you make with nutritional yeast!
I would too!
Love the Oneka products! Thats what we get from the zero waste/refill store for shampoo, conditionner and body gel😄
First timer, love your energy
I’ll be back
Such a fun video chelsea. I love the bfast dish. It looks so great. Ty for sharing. Your property is so nice.
The kitchen is looking beautiful and freshened up💖
Thanks! I can't wait to have it all finished - Dan's occupied with finishing the cabin right now so I have to wait another week.
I so love the Vintage cook books! I have two small ones with notes and an old magazine recipe saved and hand writing I so love! Thank you for sharing the ones you have they are incredible. Never stop. I also just had a whim to check the website. Oh my C did do some beadwork! I see all sold out as of course they would be. I will be checking now more often. And I don't know if you will do this again but I love my shopping bag. I wish I bought more at the time. One with the flower C designed would be wonderful :) Let us know if you re introduce them please. the scone and the hash and eggs looks so so yum. Will be trying that. Oh the cows Patty so big and little Fern is adorable and how amazing how her color changed. I love the tours always. Feels like I am right there. hugs
Blessings!
Just been watching you make scones, I’ve been making them for year and have never put eggs or butter in them, they always turn out great
Thank you so much for another great video and another great cooking video how to stretch those dollar bills out in the kitchen and eat wonderful
You have truly been blessed by God with yoyr property and everything on it. How wonderful!
As always, an interesting video! Not knowing anything of Canadian food traditions or how you time your meals, is it commonplace to have a heavy breakfast? What do office people eat in the morning? I grew up on a farm, doing outdoor work all day, and our breakfast still consisted mainly of some coffee and (rye)bread (in the 80s). BUT we Finns tend to have our lunch quite early (around 11-12) though, and it is usually quite filling, often more so than dinner. I understand it's necessary to eat something that sticks to the ribs to have energy to power through morning of manual labor! I'm still not sure I could eat something like that so soon after waking up - but do you actually eat that right in the morning (early like 6 am), or later?
I've learned that our Finnish (meal) rhythm is very early compared to e.g. Italian one; we often start with breakfast around 6-7 am, lunch 11-12, dinner at 5, and evening snack around 8 pm and get ready for bed when the Sicilians start to consider having dinner :D Vacationing in Italy requires always adjustments at first! Our usual office hours are 7/8 am to 4 pm, so meals reflect that I guess. Of course people work all kinds of hours so this is a generalization. How is it with you Canadians? Are you early birds or night owls?
We eat a heavy breakfast a few times a week, usually on the weekends when we get a later start and after chores are done. Other Melinda are usually toast and eggs, oatmeal or yoghurt and fruit. Lunch is usually around noon and dinner around 5:30om. Heavier at dinner than the other meals. We’re early to bed, early to rise for the most part.
That looks delicious! I have little potatoes also. Now I'm gonna Google "what's the difference between biscuits & scones?" Nice tour.
Thank you for the quality of your videos! Your team does a great job!!
I enjoyed this mini tour. Can’t get enough. My husband can’t get enough of your cornbread recipe. (Me to)
After watching I had to make a scramble this morning
I always learn a little bit from your channel. Tomorrow is my pork and beans day. Best wishes to you always! ❤️
Always enjoy your channel and the vintage cookbook recipes! Bobs Red Mill is in my local area and love everything they offer. I am intrigued by your comment of using the nutritional yeast to make salad dressing and am interested is seeing a recipe. Thank you for sharing your life with us. 🙂
Ok that is looking great!
always enjoy seeing you cook and take us along on your morning walks ❤
i hope we see more winter recipes or drinks hehe
are there any other places you order from when it comes to bulk organic items?
I always love seeing your sweet cows 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great tour of your property ❤
I LIKE YOUR VIDEOS, AND HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH. REALLY APPRECIATE IT ALL. I’M INTERESTED IN YOUR DISH YOU SCOOP YOUR FLOUR OUT OF. I MADE SUCH A MESS YESTERDAY WHILE BAKING. I WAS JUST WONDERING THE CAPACITY OF YOUR DISH….THANKS!
Keep the BP jars to store your next order of bulk BP.
Love the mountaintop view💝
The ranch is beautiful, I enjoyed your videos❤
Thank you
Hi Chelsea, is there a chance you can show us how you clean your cast iron pans? I have such a hard time, mine get sticky every time I re-season. 😊
Are you in the US? I'm in the lower 48 and met a woman that strips and restores cast iron for resale. She uses the Crisco brand of shortening to season her gorgeous collection - I use it on mine as well, without any stickiness and my finish is gorgeous without issue. Hope that works for you!!
Sure!
Potato hash sounds wonderful
I make my own soap and shampoo bars. Never have used Castile soap in them. Glad you found organic shampoo
What do you use for shampoo?
I used liquid oils and hard oils such as shea butter, mango butter, kokum butter, coconut oil and essential oils. I infuse most of my liquid oils with rosemary or pine or lavender. Different herbs. All organic
What a spread you have. Beautiful and a lot of work! Thanks for sharing!!
That potato dish looked awesome great video.
Thank you, Chelsea!💛
Umm I'm coming for breakfast that looked sooo yummy.
Thank you for another great video.
