For the life of me I just don’t understand why the 357Sig isn’t more popular. It may be the ultimate self defense round. Maybe the muzzle blast scares people off. Recoil is about the same as a 40, maybe a little less. It’s my EDC. Thanks for the informative video sir, I’m a fan.
Just imagine a Glock 19 type gun with a surpressor barell 5 inch but in 357 SIG. G19 grip is the only compact gun who could be used as a EDC carry weapon because his short grip.
For a long time it was really hard to find a hot .357 SIG. Even now only a few companies load it to its true potential. The major companies (Federal, Hornady, etc ) still underload it even in their defensive rounds. So I think people would compare those underloaded rounds with a +p+ 9mm and didn't see a small increase in energy worth a 20% decrease in capacity and a higher price. I personally love .357 SIG. For me, being able to stop the threat in 1-2 shots versus 2-3 with 9mm is definitely worth the decrease in capacity and the increase in price.
I think it’s definitely a great round. It is expensive though and not mainstream with people that aren’t caliber nerds. Also everything get more difficult with female shooters, one handed shooting , etc
@@AverageJoe4063 .357S offers a significant energy improvement over even the best +P+ 9x19. 9x19 according to VA SP takes 2-3 to reliably stop big dogs, .357S is 1. So much for capacity
The more I see of 357 SIG, and I do mean proper 357 SIG, the more it impresses me. I have no problem with the solid copper projectile shedding petals at 9 inches and the core over-penetrating, (possibly). The bonded projectile was very impressive. Both pushing 1400 fps. Yes, please.
My EDC is and has been for over a decade is 40 Smith 180 gr Gold Dot. I recently switched to a hot 125 gr Barnes JHP. Plan to switch to 357 Sig this fall, 125gr HST most likely. I will consider any reputable loads from Double Tap, Federal, CCI, Underwood, Barnes, Winchester, Cor Bon, or similar. My consideration is penetration to 16" +/_, and expansion. Fragmentation is acceptable as long as it's in decent size chunks with decent penetration (say no less than 14" of the primary projectile piece) I'm a church security person and overpenetration is a consideration. That said, I want them to shut down PDQ, unlike police shootings where the suspect has to be riddled with 9mm to cause shutdown.
My first handgun was a G33 with 2 conversion barrels. 357 SIG’s superior ballistics impressed me from the start. In this configuration 65-90gr XD’s or a 115gr loaded to 1600fps are a great matchup.
I’d love to see a side-by-side 357 Sig comparison between HST (or Gold Dot) and the Underwood Noslers. Your ballistic gel tests are definitely the best on RUclips.
Thank you very much I appreciate that a lot!! Glad u find them helpful and enjoy them. I actually have a few tests like that up already, but will have a few more here very soon😁. Thank you again my friend!! Plenty on the way 😁👍.
Since I was looking for information, I came across your channel and believe me, it is one of the best demonstrations regarding the caliber.357 sig in speed tests as well as impact tests compared to other calibers. In my opinion I prefer that caliber over others like EDC because of its performance!
Thank you very much I appreciate u checkin it out!! Glad u found and enjoy the channel😁. Have tons and tons of 357 sig tests up. Thank you again my friend!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
Amazing video. Thanks so much for letting them loose out of the pocket rocket😂. Definitely thought that bonded round would have held up better out of the short barrel but I guess not definitely not a Gold Dot for sure…Either way almost 1400fps out of the noise maker is amazing. Stellar job as always.
Thank you buddy always appreciate u checkin em out!! I've been getting a lot of requests lately to test em out of the short barrel so looks like we will be doing a lot more with em😁. Always fun bringing out the shorties and letting em loose💣💥. Yeah was pretty surprised too that it didn't end up holding together very well, but still had some crazy results and damage. Was definitely a fun one. Thank you again!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
I have that little Glock 33 and it’s got a punch but I had to convert it to 40cal because 357sig at times isn’t easy to find and it’s always more money. Awesome little round.
Great test as usual. Looks like bonded copper is the clear winner here. When it comes to solid copper, the fluted Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator and Defender bullets are the best, especially if you prefer deeper penetration. Until they start building smaller 10mm pistols the 357 Sig is THE best carry round. Followup shots are harder than 9mm but slightly easier than 40SW because of the lighter bullets. I've seen too many videos where guys trade hits with what I assume are 9MMs. If I am in a situation where I have to shoot a person or animal, I want them to know they have been shot right away. The Operating pressure of 10mm is less than 357 Sig, so there is no reason for 10mm pistols to be as thick as they are, and gun maker's 357 Sig pistols are the same size as their 9mm pistols. The main reason they are thick is because they build them off their 45 ACPs for the longer grip to handle the longer bullets. My daily carry is a Sig P224 in 357 Sig. I also have a Springfield XDM 3.8 Elite 10mm (and many other pistols), but rarely carry it, because I prefer DA/SA guns.
there simply isn't any evidence for the XD bullets being anything other than gel stars. Yet to see a single guntube channel who HUNTS give any kind of endorsement to the terminal performance of these rounds. Not saying they might not be great but can someone please go out and handgun hunt with them (with rifle backup of course) to give some kind of real assessment of their performance
Interestingly enough Doubletap Ammo does offer a round loaded with a 180gr hard cast bullet at a very respectable 1050 fps velocity! The 180gr 357 Sig round has the same sectional density as a 220gr .40.
would be nice to know if the peak pressure wave is more important than carrying a channel further through the block in terms of secondary wounding effects
Another table, are you kidding me.....Your new name is "the table slayer ".....and as usual, I'll keep it between us....lol.....Another great .357sig test, that bonded round really came apart. I think I'll stick with underwood 124gr nosler. Thanks again and hope you have a wonderful day my friend.
Lol😄 Thank u, can't be letting that out😄, trying to keep the misses happy and keep these tables coming lol. I hear ya though those UW 124gr are no joke. Definitely some of my favorites. Thank you as always my friend!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
357 Sig is impressive. The 115 copper didn't shed a pedal until the second block which made it dive downward, the 125 was too explosive and didn't penetrate enough. You've tested much better bullets like the Gold Dot, HST and Winchester. Thanks for the informative test.
Great video, that is a vicious round. Why buy 9mm, the recoil on this is like 10% more than a 9, and this kicks a 9mms ass in every category. Some people will say price, but a plus p 9 costs the same as a basic load of .357. And the basic load, is better than a plus p 9.
Am I the only one who finds the 31 too big to conceal, the 33 to small to control, and the 32 just right? I watched both vids and interpolated. Particularly on "get off the X" drills I shoot the compacts far better than the subcompact Glocks. For me the subcompacts are fine from the range friendly Weaver but not so much when moving at max acceleration and still trying to get rounds target. 357 is very loud out of a 32 and the 33 is on a whole new level. The blast from even the 32 turns heads at the range.
Surprised at how the solid copper did. Have you seen those rounds that look like + I think they are solid copper too, but are supposed to be for self defense.

Excellent! more 357 sig. The stopping power is incredible. And the recoil is no worse then a 9mm. Undervalued round.
