    👍🏼 Rifle performance from a pistol. Those wound channels look as if made by a rifle varmint round.

    From my experience, Underwood (and Buffalo Bore) stays fairly true to their advertised velocities. Double Tap will sometimes meet their posted velocities, but more often than not, fall a little short. Still a good round, it's just a pet peeve of mine to list velocities that aren't accurate... and they know they aren't (as if we won't verify for ourselves).

      I have a few 357 Sig handguns with the same exact model and size in 9mm and shooting them side by side there is a little more recoil with 357 Sig, but it's not as much as you would think. If I had to put a number on it I would say around 20% more. The biggest difference is the noise 357 Sig makes is a lot more. I always double up on my hearing protection when shooting 357 Sig because it's a lot more of a muzzle blast than 9mm.

    My favorite caliber And my carry out of 33 and one of my home defense out of the 31(sometimes my carry too😂) crazy stupid rounds that basically grenade after entry. I think they could both use a bit less juice or a shorter barrel to loose less. Gold dots are best for spice like that. Wish both would bring them back. Awesome video thanks for showing .357sig. The supply of Gold Dots dried up completely about 3 years ago and suddenly in virtually all calibers. So far no explanation as to why. They do ship a few now and then but mostly they are unobtainium. While I feel the Gold Dot is one of the best bullets available, if you can't get them you can't load them! I'm not personally impressed with the Nosler as it comes apart much too quickly, but with a center of mass hit it would be devastating. I also agree with AZ about Doubletap being inconsistent. Problem is, one failure is a fail! Personally, I carry the Lehigh Extreme Defenders in all of my carry guns.

      I spoke to UW about the GD's, they said Speer stop releasing the projectiles to anyone. The only way to get them is in factory Speer ammo. I carry the Nosler ASP but they quit selling them months ago. They sold me the XTP rounds and insisted they were Nosler ASP's. After 15 emails and them agreeing to give me my money back ( also told me to take my business elsewhere) Kevin Underwood stepped in and told me I was right and his people were wrong. He apologized, refunded my money and told me to keep the four boxes of XTP's. In my opinion Mr. Underwood is a stand up guy.

I like to rotate my EDC so I carry my G31 for about a month out of the year . Your video confirms that the .357sig is truly a great defensive round . Great video , good job !

  • @kennethferguson4283
    @kennethferguson4283 6 дней назад +2

    What is overlooked is that in a gun fight perfect COM hits are going to be few and far between with marginal hits more likely to be made and more likely to be what stops the fight. These rounds would obviously be effective with a COM hit but also with marginal hits where penetration is not important but a quick energy dump is. Example a shot to the leg or shoulder would be best served with these rapid energy dump rounds where a deep penetration round would just pass through taking fight stopping energy with them.

    Another great video. I'm good friends with one of the marketing reps at underwood. She knows I edc the .357sig with the nosler projectile. Several months ago she gave me a heads up on the switch to the xtp. She stuck me back 15 boxes of the nosler. I've just never cared for the xtp, I'm really curious to see your test with it. Again, thanks for the great video and the amazing work you do. By far my favorite channel on RUclips. Wishing you a wonderful day my friend.

    I never thought much about the 357 Sig but after watching all of your ballistic tests, it's a mean cartridge. Like it's parent case the 40 S&W they both have fallen out of favor. They say the 9mm does it all but when you look at the testing and ballistics it's a totally different story.

    • @Prepare2Survive

      @@Prepare2Survive Good point, However Speer reloading manual says 40 S&W, Wikipedia says 10mm, another Military media says 40 S&W. It's confusing. It's probably 10mm with a small pistol primer.

    Good test, AZ! I'm much to old and cranky to be changing calibers now but I do like the 357 Sig. 9mm on steroids! Both of these rounds under penetrate, in my opinion, and dump their energy too quickly. Great for a center of mass hit but anything else coukd end up being a massive flesh wound. I'm sure they work fine in most cases, however.

      That's what you want it to do is dump energy at the target... That's why the 357 sig is called the one-shot stop.
