You are the ONLY youtuber to do a video on this. Its insane to me that this isnt discussed more and that there isnt more information from screen and projector manufacturers. This configuration makes more sense to me for a long term install especially for those with large center channel speakers. Thank you for all your hardwork putting this together!
I wish you could have done this ceiling analysis with normal screens, and not just alr/clr. Still hoping you be able to test that white high gain screen you mentioned before. And the advantage of a normal screen is you do t have to flip it, so you can replace your regular throw projector with a ust with minimal effort.
I am planning on try this setup (regular spandex screen and ceiling mounted UST). I can't find much information on it. I hope it works ok. The room is completely blacked out.
I decided not to use any ALR etc screens and hanged my Epson LS500 on a ceiling. I just covered my wall with titanium dioxide based coating (it's a grey paint that helps enhance perceivable contrast for projectors) and I absolutely love the result. It cannot deal with ambient light as great as dedaicated ALR of course so it's not a drop in replacement for all people, but for my use case it was ideal. Most of the time the image is vibrant and well saturated during the day, but if it's very sunny then I have to switch the projector from 2000 to 4000 lumens. During the night even with lights on it's just almost perfect.
Glad you mentioned ceiling height. All these UST reviews never mention ceiling height or media cabinet heights. My media console became useless after buying a UST and basically it has to sit very close to the floor. Hopefully this is helpful for anyone getting one keep this in mind. The media consoles made for ust’s are extremely overpriced and hopefully we’ll see the price drop on those soon
Seems like you just provided UST manufacturers a new model - UST ceiling mounted! It looks so much better than a standard ceiling mount in the center of the room and if you don't have access to run the cables it's a non-starter. If you don't have the space to put a entertainment center/TV stand out from the wall, the UST vendor just lost a customer to a flat screen. I can't imagine there would be too much engineering needed to make the image more adjustable to work with screen in any orientation at the proper viewing height, even if it meant mounting it out further on the ceiling than pulling furniture further into the room. Good review!
Thanks for answering a question I've always had. I would love a similar deep dive into contrast based clr screens. Or maybe a deep dive into acoustically transparent screens.
Interesting feature. So I have ceiling mounted my Epson EH-LS800 in accordance with the instructions in the manual, and using the Epson ceiling mounting bracket specified in the literature on their website and referenced in the device manual. I have coupled it with a ALR ceiling mounted 100” electric screen from VividStorm, and I have to say that the results are incredible.
@@ashyb8234 I used the Epson Ceiling Mount ELPMB22 and the distances, depending upon screen size, are per the User Manual for the Epson projector (in my case the EH-LS800).
Another solid video! You continue to put in the legwork daily to answer some very reasonable questions. I've been told that UST/ALR screens wouldn't work when inverted, and I was kind of like ... "But window light comes in from the side whether they are right side up or upside down... why wouldn't they work?" - and this seals the deal. Lenticular screens are perfectly fine for traditional window lighting from the sides if you must use a ALR screen at all. Right side up, or upside down, you get effective side light rejection. I can definitely see how having a white ceiling and windows is more problematic as the light will bounce off the ceiling a lot easier than carpet. Meh, beggars and such. Wondering - What mount length are you using? In your affiliate link, there are two lengths of mounts available. Are you using the shorter one or the longer one? I haven't tried that mount, and I'm a die hard Chief RPMAU fanboy, but Chief doesn't have any great UST mounts. I don't think any exist yet because height really needs to be built into the adjustments as well, but was wondering which version you got. Thanks!
Very interesting, thank you! I wonder if putting a slight angle on the projector screen when ceiling mounting would help with any of the top hotspot issue. It makes sense that the light doesn't get reflected perfectly straight out, like you mentioned about the seating position. Regardless, I very much appreciate the testing and effort, and with the results here, it may just be the setup I end up with eventually.
I’m on the verge buying UST this year, I ended up bought the JMGO N1 Ultra instead, just waiting for it to arrive in May- June now. You really should do a review on it. Honestly, looks to good to be true but I know the manufacturer in China, so I’m not worried. Perfect for a projector on the go hooked up to my new River 2 Max on camp site.
I'll be doing an N1 Ultra review once they start shipping actual product. Crowdfunding reviews are a crapshoot because they are hand picking early units to send to reviewers, so there's no guarantee that what I review will match what you get.
The thing I wonder about is will mounting the projector upside down on the ceiling cause it to overheat. Probably not a problem but may be why the manufacturer says not to do it.
With my AWOL 3500 that I ceiling mounted a couple days ago I noticed that the fan noise was more noticeable, sounded like the fans were spinning faster than they were previously but I didn't perform any test, just something that I noticed last night and it could just be because the noise is coming from a different area, idk. But it's still extremely quiet compared to my old Benq.
@@ZyaLuke Hot air does travel up naturally. Maybe the hot air hitting the ceiling and/or surrounding the ceiling-mounted UST projector causes the fans to spin faster and thus create louder noise?? 🤔
I knew that micro adjustable mounts were a thing but I never seen one like that! The ones I looked at needed multiple sections and extremely tall ceilings! To adjust the distance I actually took a small rectangular piece of plywood and drilled out four 3 inch slots and ran lag bolts with washers through the slots and into the ceiling so I could have fwd and bwd adjustment (figured I could also fine tune it a bit just by loosening or tightening the lag bolts). The only problem is that the AWOL is about 4 lbs heavier than my old ceiling mount is rated for. 😬 Still waiting on the screen before the real fun begins.
would you be willing to share the purchase details of the motorized cabinet you showed a clip of 8:38 time stamp with the time and temp display? I'm interested in something like this for my installation.
There's also a non-diy version you can purchase here: www.projectorscreen.com/spectra-projection-slider-ust-ultra-short-throw-projector-sliding-tray-for-laser-tv-projectors.html?af=hookup-af
Can you recommend a good motorized ceiling mounted ALR screen to compliment a ceiling mounted UST projector? I see plenty of floor mounted motorized ALR screens but they advise not mounting upside down. Ceiling mounted matte screens are also abundant, but then I lack benefits of ALR. Those ceiling mounted ALR screens I can find are limited and seem to all be for long throw projection. Any suggestions? In my room ceiling mounted is a necessity, and I'd prefer ALR due to a decent amount of natural daylight from the windows (not as much ceiling lights)
Your are my favorite youtube reviewer. Absolutely flawless methodology, covering all angles. You've helped me understand new tech and make better purchasing decisions. Right now im trying to find which would be the best budget ceiling mount screen for the GROVIEW 818c projector your recommend.
Very interesting to see that flipping both the projector and screen does not give the same result as standard orientation. Shouldn't that be the case in theory?
It's about the viewer's eyeballs. The screens are designed with the intention that the viewer's eyes will be in the middle of the bottom 1/3 of the screen. When you flip the screen and projector upside down the viewer's eyes are now in the "top" 1/3 of the screen.
I don't think my benq 7050i has the option to flip the screen anyway, just front/rear project. But, that mount is maybe just what I was looking for for what I need, thanks!
Thank you for your time! I have watched a ton of your videos probably all on USTs. I have 8ft ceilings but a 20x24ft room we sit 17ft from wall that would call for a 120in UST. But we are looking at ceiling mounting it. I'm thinking about buying a 120in screen and just going 100in on the projection that way I could always just adjust if I wanted a bigger screen. If I understood correctly being bigger and more center of the screen is a good thing with it being flipped (Would this look bad?) Maybe an idea for a video. This is a living room so it has Ambient light so my plan is go fresnel screen. (You call it the future in another video) Mainly side light and little glare on floor. The thing I'm wondering is if the AWOL 3500 is a little too bright/gain and maybe the Formovie maybe a sweet spot. I'm really struggling between the 2. Being I'm going ceiling mount and good low profile styles you can send me a link to. (maybe an idea for a video) I did see the one you used and like it. Just thinking with 8ft ceilings lower the profile the better. Regardless if you write back thank you for your videos and work that goes into them.
I also wonder about proper heat dissipation mounting a projector upside down if it's not designed for it. The heat may rise up in the unit. One other thing to consider, if mounting them on the ceiling where there is a living space above it, there could be vibrations from people moving around that cause the image to vibrate around. Obviously if it concrete instead of wood framing, this may not be an issue.
I think overheating issues are pretty unlikely. If anything the airflow should be quite a bit better for ceiling mounted projectors since they are open on all sides. Ceiling mount standard projectors often have vibration issues caused by upstairs flooring, but UST's should be less prone to it since they will be closer to a wall (think side of a trampoline instead of center). The mount that I was using was actually a wall mount, which worked great and would eliminate those concerns.
Would have been nice with a comparison of floor vs. ceiling mounted on a normal 1.0 or 1.1 gain screen. I have an EliteScreens Saker Tab Tension 100" screen, and I'm a bit unsure of how it would handle the UST projection...
This was great! I am currently finishing my basement and would like to ceiling mount my UST. But I am unsure from your evaluation where exactly the ideal placement of ceiling pot lights would be to minimize the wash out seen with your 45 degree angle test! Any tips or suggestions for ideal placement? Also want to mention that this will be a big multi-purpose room, so a decent amount of pots are going to be needed.
Has anyone tried putting a retractable motorized screen on the ceiling of their Home Theater to use an UST there instead of a fiber optic star ceiling? There are sonic and light reflection issues with this idea, but I saw my first fiber optic star ceiling in the 1990’s and there has to be a better or more creative option. I saw the KEF/HT with the two side screens, and I wondered when I saw it if a ceiling screen was possible.
What about mounting from the front wall with a short throw project mount? The type used in classrooms. This means you just running cables inside the wall where you already have speaker placed and not all the way to the ceiling.
This is great info, thanks! Based on these recommendations, I'll have to test out a couple scenarios for my niche use case. Our theater room serves dual purpose. It's a basement space with good light control and a 7-foot ceiling that we use primarily as a "rumpus room" for the kids to go crazy, but nights and special occasions for movies/events. The couches can all be moved easily to make lots of space to play or arranged for stadium seating (took the legs off one of them). I frequently hit my head on our old projector mounted in the middle of the room, so a UST resolves that. However the kids run around and bump into stuff, which makes a UST and its sensitive nature nearly impossible to keep aligned when sitting near the floor, not to mention the interference with my C/L/R setup. Ideally, my UST and retractable screen will be ceiling mounted: out of the way completely when the room is in "rumpus mode" and then perfectly aligned when in theater mode.
@@TheHookUp That will depend entirely upon which projector I end up with, but maybe. When I remodeled the space in 2016, USTs were not of sufficient quality or price to be an option. I was only ever planning on mounting my screen in the ceiling, but now that USTs are really good... Here's a crude cross-section diagram of my ceiling joist spacing on the side of the room where the screen will be: || 13.5" || X || 14.5" || X || Wall The "X" is HVAC that basically fills the joist cavity, so there's no space in those. The 14.5" cavity is where I am going to flush-mount the retractable screen into the ceiling. The distance from the 13.5" cavity to the center of the 14.5" cavity is exactly 24". I have some wiggle room within that cavity for screen placement closer or farther than that, but basically to get the UST into the ceiling I need one that is less than 13.5" deep and can operate with a throw distance to the screen of ~24".
For what it's worth, I have an unfinished basement and my kids (10 years+ ago) were young and typical and shooting arrows in the basement and throwing around toys and such. I ended up getting a BenQ w1070, and one of the big reasons was that it fit between my ceiling joists. I ended up building a lift for it using a motorized car jack. It allowed it to go up and down and a 3/4" piece of plywood protected it while it was recessed between the joists. I also had/have a motorized tab-tensioned screen which could hide away completely when not in use. You very likely have more options than you realize, including UST. But, standard throw, with the right stuff, could still work if you enjoy the front projection setup.
@@paulvail7926 I've got a really nice Epson 1080 projector now that I'm looking to upgrade, so my options are mostly limited by the features I want to upgrade to (4K, gaming-centric). My Epson is a little too "thicc" to fit in the joists. XD
Amazing. The entire point of ceiling mount is to eliminate the media console. Can wall mount a high end soundbar behind an acoustically transparent screen to have a completely minimalist setup with little maintenance in terms of the projector needing to be adjusted. I’ll just black out the room amd that is more than good enough.
Mounting UST on the wall or ceiling above the screen makes THE most sense. Why aren't there ALR screens specifically made for that situation? Ofcourse you have to consider the angle: the light comes from above but must not be reflected direct horizontal with the screen but in a bit wider angle as the seats will be lower than the middle of the screen. This would imply a special screen, not the standard ones you have demonstrated here. Vividstorm claims they have such screens, but I have not found any review of them.
Hello, another great video that you grace us with. I am more and more convinced by the purchase of the Formovie Fresnel screen. I understand from your video that this screen is subject to hotspots. Is it only with the ceiling mount configuration? Or have you already seen this phenomenon with the standard mount configuration?
As I said in the video, in person I never once said "hmm, that looks like a hot spot", it was only in post when I was comparing the different footage that I noticed the bright spot top center.
Can you recommend a recessed drop down screen? Vividstorm makes many models and they might be able to put the material upside down as a special order?. Or they make a grey screen, which I assume would be unidirectional? I am trying to decide between a ceiling mount UST and a table mount lifestyle projector such as Hisense C1, where I would have to use about a foot of vertical keystone.
At 4m45s you talk about always choosing an UST screen vs a standard screen. Is that true even for ceiling mounted applications with above lighting or forward lighting? I'm assuming you'll always get better contrast with a UST specific screen? To ask a different way: Is there ever a case to choose a standard "grey" screen over a UST screen?
Nice test! I think a lot of users prefer to mount the screen on the ceiling and watch in the daylight where the light falls from the side from the windows and not from above. My only comment is that if we watch in the living room, we are usually sitting on the sofa. So our eye level is lower than on the tests. Mostly our eyes are at the level of the bottom edge of the screen. In this case, wouldn't a Fresnel mounted on top of the sofa be out of sight? @TheHookUp What do you think?
So you commented that if you flip the screen, the viewer's eyes are now in the top 1/3 of the screen. If I lower my screen so that my eyes are equivalent to the bottom 1/3 in standard orientation, the results should then be the same in both orientations?
Thank you! I've been waiting for this ever since UST came out. ceiling is the only option. Have you tried screen innovations black diamond ALR screens? I have one now for my standard projector, which was always the best. wondering if their ust alr screen is as good as their black diamond regular projector screens. Have you seen an acoustically transparent ALR screen for UST? I really would love to go bigger, waiting for UST that can do 150"
One additional benefit of ceiling mounting is that it won't collect dust on the lens, which plagues most USTs that are sitting out in the living room uncovered most of the time.
Can you add a little more information about the grey screen tests? I didn’t understand what you were showing with the 4 screens. We’re they split like the prior evaluations? Also, can you confirm that the side lighting condition was worse on the grey screen than on the Spectra Vantage? By worse, I’m assuming that you mean higher black levels, as I think that the grey screen brightness should have been much brighter than the 0.55 gain SV screen. Thanks!
The gray screen got the same tests, the left side of each quadrant is the ceiling mount, the right side is the floor mount. Conditions are: Top left: Zero light Top right: 15 degree ambient light Bottom left: 45 degree ambient light Bottom right: side (parallel) ambient light
So if I’m understanding you correctly, you didn’t do any side by side comparisons with the other screens, you just showed each lighting condition with the screen flipped for each half. It doesn’t seem to do a bad job with the parallel light. Can you explain why it was the worst? Seems like the brightness should have been better than the 0.55 gain screen. Just trying to understand your thinking. Thanks!
If you check out my last video, the spectra is nowhere near .55 gain, I measured it closer to .8, and the Formovie was above 1.5. When I measured the silver ticket (1.0 gain listed), it was about 0.95. I think the increased contrast due to the lenticular CLR leads to a greater perceived brightness, even if it is technically not as bright. ruclips.net/video/2b8PXZtL1q8/видео.html
You mentioned something that has been holding me back... Center Channel position. In your setup you said you solved this with the retractable screen...but are any of these screens Acoustically transparent? Right now I have been running traditional projectors with a DIY acoustically transparent screen. In the next year I wanted to upgrade to 4k and have been looking at the BenQ x3000i as I primarily play games, then movies, then TV Series. But the allure of bright laser projectors w/ an ALR is extremely tempting as I find dark scenes meh right now.
@@justinbeamon6624 The Vividstorm CLR type screen only has acoustical transparency on the black border beneath the projection surface which allow for a speaker to be placed at the bottom of the screen, behind it, beneath where the image would show.
Your videos are wonderful!!! Thank you for making great videos! I purchased the XGIMI Aura after watching your video in the past and using a 120” screen. I am thinking about putting the Aura in my garage and putting it in on a 150” screen. Now thinking about ceiling mounting the Aura, to get the full 150” in the garage. Can you make a video on ceiling mounting the Xgimi Aura?
what if you got 2 projectors... mounted them symmetrically (either horizontally or vertically)... flip 1 image... double the max brightness and contrast? reduced hotspot?
Can you use an UST projector far away from the screen e.g say 7ft away? If so would you be able to adjust the screen size from that position down (e.g make it only 80 inches)?
I use a batcave cinema room but the 120" screen is too low for a laser projector and a centre speaker is there. Will a laser work ok fitted on a black ceiling upside down?
I am a High School teacher and I wanted to buy a projector to use in class because our school cannot afford one. I bought one for just over $50 on amazon but realized it doesn't work well in well lit classroom. Can you provide any recommendations?
Sure, you don't need a home theater projector, what you need is a WXGA or XGA bulb projector. Look on ebay for Epson, Viewsonic, BENQ and look for 3000 ANSI lumens or better. Most bulbs will last 3000-5000 hours, and used auctions will usually list the bulb life. I had this projector in my classroom and it was great: www.ebay.com/itm/266245437320?epid=26025892843
at this point might it not be better to use a long throw laser projector? 🤔 I don't know if there are fresnel screens for long throws but combining a good screen with a jmgo n1 ultra seems like a pretty solid solution. any opinion on this projector? maybe even a video on long throw laser projector comparisons 😁?
I just received a production unit (not a review sample) of the N1 Ultra yesterday. I've only had a couple hours to mess with it, but it does seem pretty solid. Not as bright as JMGO says, but VERY bright. Definitely the brightest lifestyle projector on the market so far by a significant margin. Full review and comparison should be out in early May when the next firmware update goes OTA.
@@TheHookUp there are good reasons why you guys are the authority for information in these markets and replies like these are one of them. Looking forward to your review which will decide how me and many others will decide. Great Job guys!
Hello,I have issue on Tasmota,I want to invert ouput from esp 8266......i built 4ch relay and the relay drive By 547 transistor and its power on when I switch off ,I switch to off Its turn on.............
First, big fan of your videos and analysis. Just thinking but couldn't there be cooling issues by having an UST projector upside down? Kind of how in gaming PC builds people take into account the orientation of their case and the push/pull fan configuration for optimum cooling. Also some aftermarket coolers don't work well when upside down (like the Frost Giant coolers) Typical projectors have vents on both the top and bottom , I'm not sure what the venting is like on the majority of UST projectors. Probably not a huge deal but gives you a reason to bust out the thermal camera.
It's definitely possible I suppose. To make things even more confusing, Epson sells an official ceiling mount for the LS800 despite saying that it is not ceiling mountable.
What would happen if you installed the above screen projector mount under the screen, but flipped it and put the projector on it. It could benefit from easy adjustment and a "move fixed" image. No need for a credenza.
there is some possibility that the design of the unit is made with the intention of only being positioned a certain way, thereby causing early wear over time, BUT with a $2000+ device, that really shouldn't be a factor. Fans, wheels, heat management pathways, etc can all be affected by changing the original design orientation.
I found this screen from Vividstorm, the PRO A 110, which promises to work well with USTs hanging on the wall, having the fabric mounted upside down. anyone have any feedback?
I was thinking of ceiling mounting the AWOL 3500 with a fresnel screen.. but that hot spot on the top center looks extremely noticable, almost blinding. You killed my dreams.. while saving me wasted money. Thank you!
ya, its odd that he says the Fresnel looks so much worse at the 5 min mark but he says the exact opposite. is it possible that the footage he was playing was supposed to be blooming there? I wish he had in the corner what it should have looked like.
Respect I would like to ask you to give me your suggestion regarding the projector, which will primarily be used at home, in a totally darkened room for watching cartoons and movies. I think it should be 4k, the models that are available in my environment are, xiaomi 4k laser, ViewSonic X10-4K, BOMAKER Polaris 4K, LG HU70LS 4K, BenQ W1800 4K, XGIMI Horizon, XGIMI Horizon pro, XGIMI Aura. These are some of the potential models, or if you have a favorite of yours, price and quality are important to me, and then aesthetics. For me, this is a lot of money and therefore an investment for a long period of time, which would improve over time from an ordinary wall to a quality canvas. So much from me, I thank you in advance for the answer, it is not the speed that is of crucial importance, but a smart recommendation, so when you arrive. Thank you
Those are not really comparable projectors. Horizon pro has great sound, compact size and an LED light source. Tk700sti is a traditional bulb projector with higher brightness and less input lag.
Enjoyed your content and detailed testing and explaining as always! I do wish you would include standard measurement units in your diagrams (you don't have to say them both) for us non-freedom folk. 😉
Greetings The Hook Up. Can you - or anyone in your community - recommend a full-sized short throw projector for an artist: good brightness, contrast, and resolution for around 1K CAD? Thanks for all the great content, sir!
Love your videos! Any plans on doing a best non-UST projector roundup in the future? Seems the only videos I could find on your channel were either budget non-UST or expensive UST. I believe you mentioned non-UST projectors have similar features for less cost, so it would be interesting to see what the best where price isn't a limiting factor have to offer!
I never understand why people would spend much more money on an UST projector to ceiling mount it, beside what you just mentioned, they also would need to run cables all the way up to the ceiling which defeats the purpose of an UST projector.
The only place I can put a projector in my home is in front of a wall of floor to ceiling windows. It obstructs the view when I'm not watching it. By ceiling mounting a UST with a drop down screen it practically hides it.

I haven't tried that mount, and I'm a die hard Chief RPMAU fanboy, but Chief doesn't have any great UST mounts. I don't think any exist yet because height really needs to be built into the adjustments as well, but was wondering which version you got. Thanks!
I used the shorter one.
@@TheHookUp Great integrity. 👍
very useful video. thanks for the good work.
Another great video Rob! 👍
What are your thoughts on using the Vivid Storm PRO A Slimline drop down for a ceiling mounted UST? Or do you have a drop down recommended?
The thing I wonder about is will mounting the projector upside down on the ceiling cause it to overheat. Probably not a problem but may be why the manufacturer says not to do it.
I think that's pretty unlikely. If anything the airflow should be quite a bit better for ceiling mounted projectors since they are open on all sides.
Still waiting on the screen before the real fun begins.
would you be willing to share the purchase details of the motorized cabinet you showed a clip of 8:38 time stamp with the time and temp display? I'm interested in something like this for my installation.
I built it, how to here: ruclips.net/video/8cP1dvXzM9I/видео.html
This is my go-to projector mount: amzn.to/44dc2uc
There are mounting holes under the rubber feet on the bottom of the groview.
I was LITERALLY thinking about this for my media room.
Finally...!!! Great video..!!! Thank you.
do you think you could put the UST projector up in between the ceiling joists so you basically have a hidden projector ?
Probably, I'd recommend some fans to help circulate the air into that space though.
That is essentially what I used in this video.
Any chance you could recess the UST into the ceiling?
@@TheHookUp That will depend entirely upon which projector I end up with, but maybe. When I remodeled the space in 2016, USTs were not of sufficient quality or price to be an option. I was only ever planning on mounting my screen in the ceiling, but now that USTs are really good... Here's a crude cross-section diagram of my ceiling joist spacing on the side of the room where the screen will be:
|| 13.5" || X || 14.5" || X || Wall
The "X" is HVAC that basically fills the joist cavity, so there's no space in those.
I tested in all conditions and the UST specific screens looked significantly better in every one.
What is the motorized projector drawer you are using? Details? And is this drawer what allowed you to solve the center channel issue?
In my experience Fresnel screens have very good vertical field of view. I don't think it would be an issue.
QUESTION : Would ceiling mount introduce excessive heat inside the housing and shorten the lifespan ? It's like grilling your UST...
Almost all USTs are side exhaust, so it shouldn't make a difference.
@@TheHookUpThank you
So you commented that if you flip the screen, the viewer's eyes are now in the top 1/3 of the screen.
Good point!
False.
Dust is everywhere. It can stick to walls and even ceilings.
A ceiling-mounted UST projector will still collect dust as time goes on.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M Let me know how much dust is on the bottom of your ceiling fan blades compared to the top.
Have you done any mid/high range projector comparisons in the 2-4k range?
Lots of variables there. Are you looking for UST, short throw, standard throw, lifestyle projectors? Laser, led, bulb?
Can you tell me again what ust ceiling mount you used that was mounted on the wall that. Scan extend greater than 30’ for a ust Hisense P1 projector?
amzn.to/3ySxE1y
Can you add a little more information about the grey screen tests? I didn’t understand what you were showing with the 4 screens. We’re they split like the prior evaluations? Also, can you confirm that the side lighting condition was worse on the grey screen than on the Spectra Vantage? By worse, I’m assuming that you mean higher black levels, as I think that the grey screen brightness should have been much brighter than the 0.55 gain SV screen. Thanks!
The gray screen got the same tests, the left side of each quadrant is the ceiling mount, the right side is the floor mount. Conditions are:
Top left: Zero light
Top right: 15 degree ambient light
Bottom left: 45 degree ambient light
Bottom right: side (parallel) ambient light
I'm not aware of any lenticular or fresnel acoustically transparent screens. I think those are only contrast based ALR (low gain).
I believe Vividstorm makes Acoustic transparent alr screens but I've heard mixed reviews.
@@justinbeamon6624 Correct, those are for long throw projectors and don't have any lenticular or Fresnel technology, they are just contrast based ALR.
I believe the XGIMI AURA's max focus distance limits it to a 120" screen.
Is there a motorized ceiling mount projector screen you would recommend?
Motorized ceiling mount? What do you mean?
what if you got 2 projectors... mounted them symmetrically (either horizontally or vertically)... flip 1 image... double the max brightness and contrast? reduced hotspot?
Can you use an UST projector far away from the screen e.g say 7ft away? If so would you be able to adjust the screen size from that position down (e.g make it only 80 inches)?
No, UST stands for "ultra short throw". They have very short throws and cannot be placed at the same distance as a standard throw projector.
I know it’s off-topic but oh my valerion is entering the lifestyle projector game.
I use a batcave cinema room but the 120" screen is too low for a laser projector and a centre speaker is there.
Will a laser work ok fitted on a black ceiling upside down?
Yes, that will work.
What would recommend if I have to place my projector in floor to get 120 inch
Can built in speaker be used as centre Chanel..
No, that idea gets throw around a lot but hasn't been implemented.
Thank you, this was exactly what I was thinking I had to do to see what can be built in my house)
at this point might it not be better to use a long throw laser projector? 🤔
I don't know if there are fresnel screens for long throws but combining a good screen with a jmgo n1 ultra seems like a pretty solid solution.
any opinion on this projector? maybe even a video on long throw laser projector comparisons 😁?
I just received a production unit (not a review sample) of the N1 Ultra yesterday. I've only had a couple hours to mess with it, but it does seem pretty solid. Not as bright as JMGO says, but VERY bright. Definitely the brightest lifestyle projector on the market so far by a significant margin. Full review and comparison should be out in early May when the next firmware update goes OTA.

First, big fan of your videos and analysis.
Just thinking but couldn't there be cooling issues by having an UST projector upside down? Kind of how in gaming PC builds people take into account the orientation of their case and the push/pull fan configuration for optimum cooling. Also some aftermarket coolers don't work well when upside down (like the Frost Giant coolers)
Typical projectors have vents on both the top and bottom , I'm not sure what the venting is like on the majority of UST projectors.

I would like to ask you to give me your suggestion regarding the projector, which will primarily be used at home, in a totally darkened room for watching cartoons and movies. Thank you
Please compare benq tk700sti vs xgimi horizon pro for Indian viewers
I'm thinking it might make sense to use these UST ceiling mounts on the ground for good adjustment!! Lollll
Yep, late April / early May.
Came here to find out why my picture looks better after mounting my ust projector on the ceiling because of the kids 👍
Wait a second....is the UST mounted upside down too like the screen? So confused.
Yes, the UST is ceiling mounted, so a mount is screwed to the bottom of the projector and the projector is hung upside down.
Can you suggest Best projectors in price range of Benq TK700 , or what would you suggest is someone is going for Benq TK700.
