I think that bridges means the hopes he had about her lover, now he wants her to burn them because he knows that the only way to forget her is destroying these hopes.
Burned Bridges is an expression that means to lose any kind of positive connections toward two parties, wether something as small as a friendship, or an alliance. The 'Bridges' are any kind of 'tie' between two parties, like a relationship, like a bridge connects two bodies of land separated by water. To burn them will terminate any kind of connection between the two landmasses, and when bridges are burned, it is usually hard to rebuild. So its like destroying a relationship, that most likely cant be fixed
