  • What's going on friends?!? Sean Pierce Johnson and welcome to my channel and a very special "Stompbox Saturday" retrospective episode. In this video, I look back 20 years to my 14th birthday and my FIRST EFFECT PEDAL: the Korg AX1G Guitar Hyperformance Processor.
    With the benefit of hindsight, we'll explore some of the features and quirks of this ancient multi-effect pedal. I'll show you some of my favorite presets, compare an old preset I created to a preset I created just recently, and answer one BIG question: was a pedal like this a GOOD choice as a first pedal???

    You forgot to mention the looper function. In PEDAL function setup, there is a HOLD setting that when you hold the pedal all the way forward, it lights the indicator light, and the sound will sustain forever, and you can play over it or along with it. Have used this to have a background sound or run throughout the entire song. Thanks for the video.

    my first pedal was a Boss ME-50 muti effect type deal and it was the perfect first pedal. the controls on it were more like a pedalboard than this korg so much easier for a 16 year old to understand. it certainly sent me down a long winding road of collecting stomp boxes lol. It had a ton of percs too like super low noise, no patch cables to go bad, built in compression. i kinda regret selling it, but it went to a friend and is actually getting used which makes me happy

    My first pedal, too! Still got it, occasionally still use it. Recently learned that apparently it’s the pitch shifter used for the “chipmunk” vocals on the Battles song “Atlas”. I got a Korg AX1500G and 3000G recently, out of nostalgia-not a bad evolution, those other two. More tweakable, and the Korg Vox acquisition shows!

    • @SeanPierceJohnson
      @SeanPierceJohnson  2 года назад +2

      Man...the video hasn't even gone live and we already have a comment! Hope you enjoy the video when you get a chance to watch it.
      Yeah man, the evolution is pretty nuts. I've been going down the rabbit hole of gear from my youth to get a sense of how far we've come. Obviously, the Line 6 stuff was tops back in 2001 and not something EVERYONE could get. But these older Toneworks pedals were a great gateway to a BUNCH of sounds. I've pretty sure some of this tech even wound up in the Vox Valvetronix modeling amps that came out around then. I don't know...just a theory.

    • @chiefbucknell
      @chiefbucknell 2 года назад +1

      @@SeanPierceJohnson I agree with your theory! Yeah, it seems Korg decided the Vox brand looked better on their guitar-focused products (other than Miku 😊). I recently got an HX Stomp, so I guess I’m bridging the worlds of affordably premium quality and “not bad, for the money” affordability.

    Man I looked up this pedal here on RUclips not expecting to be able to find any videos on it because I did not remember the name of the pedal and it was the second video I came to that had this pedal review.
    This was the first pedal I have had and it was the best.
    I payed about 250.00$ for it but it was worth it.
    It had a bunch of presets but the best thing was you could edit every preset distortion and every aspect of the effect.
    Such as if you used the wha effect you had three different preset whas I think but you could edit the effect and change all areas of the effects such as the wha you could change the type of wha to a filter wha or a heavy wha or a funky one or whatever you wanted.
    Then you could edit the type of distortion, the type of echo or reverb, the type of modulation, the volume and every element of any one effect.
    This had an amazing sound to it for a digital effect pedal and you could do so much with it.
    This was awesome to get to review after all these years and to have found it so easy really is great!!
    I love watching videos of products I use to have it’s wonderful.
    Thanks for the upload and Cheers!!

    If you don’t have a solution for silent practice and it’s just laying around it’s certainly got good enough tones for that if nothing else. Weird presets like that aqua can come in handy when looking for a sound effect for a track too. Personally, I think all gear is worth keeping around if your not hard up for money and you record your own music. A lot of these old multi effects pedals have weird effects that are actually kinda hard to find these days. Ring mods and stuff like that aren’t always the easiest to find.

      I've never used this pedal, so this is a total shot in the dark, but if I understood what he said, when you engage the tuner, it turns off the output. So my first thought would be, is the tuner still engaged? if so, disengage it and see if that brings your output back.
