I am jamaican an this is one of the few logical videos i have seen on the internet. Good assessment of the race. All the rest are saying kishane got robbed etc an its not so if you have advanced knowldege of the rules of the sport you will see it was very close but noah won. Sometimes we as jamaicans are sore losers an only think with our emotions & not with logics. Bless up for this video!

Technically he did get robbed because per the rules both should have been awarded the gold medal. See same thing happen again in the 200m, and the rule clearly states that the clock is to the hundredth not the thousandth of a second. So the first mistake cause the second mistake because now they cannot go back and apply the correct rule because then they would look like the idiots they are. But per my prior take Kishane needs to watch and worry about the finish line and stop worry about where other people are, that cost him same way it cost Shericka and Shelly at worlds,.
In the rules of the game both athlete should have received gold. A tiebreaker should only be used if it’s a semifinal and the last person is to be added to the final. The head of JAAA had 1/2 hour after the race to appeal and didn’t. Do you remember Jamaica’s 1,2,2 , the same could have been applied.
As an unbiased american who knows what I’m talking about in this sport, I’ll try to help with my .02. Stephen Francis did not get Kishane “wrong”. All a coach can do is properly educate and prepare an athlete. Think about people like TaLou, Keni Harrison, etc., with their absolutely BRILLIANT coach John Smith, whom I totally think is one of the best coaches this planet has ever seen…definitely even more knowledgeable and experienced than Francis, but those athletes continue to flop in big meets! As a person who has run on all of these levels and coached this sport, I understand what I see, and what I see is that Francis poured his entire heart and soul into Kishane, he’s worked on Kishane’s injury situation, worked on his mind big time, taught him how to shut Lyles and all the noise out of his mind, etc. Coach Francis did a WONDERFUL job with Kishane…the problem is Kishane, himself. Simply put, Kishane runs a style that could make him have injury easily. Also, Kishane is not use to how his body feels when he has REAL competition! A true test for Kishane would be to race Christian Coleman…neck to neck while Christian smokes him for most of the race…what will he do? Kishane is just like ShaCarri…although he fixed his start this year, he’s a runner who will catch you from way behind, or he will lead you and have full control, but the one thing Kishane does NOT know how to do, is run in his own lane and stay focused on his execution when he’s with someone who is stride for stride with him. Doesn’t matter how experienced a runner is…when we are in a rare and unique situation where someone is stride for stride with us, the ANSWER is to relax and focus on your execution, while remembering to: breathe properly, relax with shoulder down and arms up, keep those knees high and maintain form (very important), keep that body stiff, lean that torso at the line not just as much as possible but as STRATEGICALLY as possible (for instance, if your left/right shoulder can make it to the line before you can do it from the front, lean to one side or something…whatever gets any part of the torso to the line…get it there quickly), and moreover, do all of this while remembering to maintain the fastest frequency and the most loose legs possible. Kishane hasn’t yet learned how to do this, and the real reason Kishane lost this race is because of not Noah, but FRED…Fred got a lighting fast reaction, Kishane caught him quickly, but the two men faught hard to get rid of one another ally he way to the line, so his focus was only on Fred…not his execution, nothing. Coach Francis did his part…now is time for Kishane to do his part. Trust me, we have seen this a million times from Marion Jones, Carmelita Jeter, definitely TaLou, etc. The best of the best make this same mistake…the key is to simply have a little more experience in this situation and knowing how to respond. Coach Francis prepared him on every single thing, and tried to prepare him for this also, but nothing matches actual experience doing it.

One thing about we who participate in this sport, is we are very honest about our imperfections. Most conversations are about what we can fix…not about someone’s feelings on constructive criticism. Even Elaine when she won with 10.61, Francis thought the race was well executed but she hesitated a little at the start. They fixed it, then 10.54! BAM…see what I mean? Francis is a brilliant man…I think he saw what I saw and more!

As a fan, I realized that Kishane got a bad start and I believe he rushed his drive phase just to catch Fred and as you said didn't stay in his own lane and was racing Fred instead of executing the race. This came from lack of experience to these situations. Last year on the circuit, Kishanr ran down Christian, Noah and others and almost catch them at the line and reduced his pb to around 10.85. All the races he had this year (except the Olympic final) he was ahead of the pack so he could have focus on his execution. But because of his bad start and trying to catch Fred which ended up that he rushed his phases, it lead to lost of focus in execution. A lot of people are staying because he didn't practice to run through the line, which I disagreed, he ran hard through the line but with poor execution because of the pressure of Fred and lack of experience to cope with this said pressure. He needs more runs on the circuit, since Franno can keep him healthy to deal with this pressure. Also I am delighted that Kishane realized this problem himself and is resolute in making sure it will not happen again. Also, I like to refer to Kishane as Franno's baby. Franno typically picks an athlete and make them his pet and pour his heart out in them. This is what I observed from the outside looking in. He loves developing young athletes more than training established stars in the sport, which he stated in an interview. He develops and just maintain and move on to the next. That is what he did with Asafa, then Shelly, then Elaine now Kishane. One might say it lead to the breakdown of Shelly and Elaine's relationship and Shelly eventual exit.

It’s not that Kishane had a bad start…Kishane actually had an excellent start, but Fred had an unusually fast reaction to the gun, which put him out front really fast, but Kishane caught and got beside him very fast because Kishane’s drive and acceleration were very good. Fred got out so well it makes others look bad, but the others were great also. But the rest of what you stated, 100%…EXCELLENT POST you just made and I’m in complete agreement with it all except for the start part! From the beginning, yup, he rushed his drive phase because Fred startled him a bit and he wasn’t use to running against another legit 9.7 runner who could match his power! Franno prepared him for this, but he had to actually experience it in real life to know how it affects him, and now he does. I 100% saw Prefontaine last year where Kishane had a slow start but came on like a darn freight train…lawd…Kishane was coming on strong and ran those guys down big time…it is one of the reasons Kishane has been on my radar all year, despite me thinking Seville would best him; he actually looked tons like Noah in that race, to be honest. Remember he had a race early season but he pulled up, and when he had that race, we are all like, “wait, did you all see that insane start from Kishane”, and we speculated he could go 9.6 or 9.7 with that kind of start…we were on T’s page talking about that (TxT Tracktime), so when he ran that fast, I personally was like, “yup, I know what the heck I saw in him that day”! Then, those 9.8’s and 9.77 had me like, “oh $hit, we Americans are about to lose this one unless Fred comes through and runs one of his old times for the win, LOL”! His execution in all of those races, even the last 9.9, was wonderful and he was in his own element there. But in the final of Paris, he was not Kishane…he was the guy trying to get Fred off his back! Next, I completely agree with you…Kishane ran all the way to the line AND he leaned as hard as he could. Many do not understand when frontside mechanics are done properly, it is difficult to lean as hard as those with the old backside mechanics, but the good thing is the frontside mechanics mean the person hits the line faster also. Last, OMG, you hit the nail on the hit with him being Franno’s “baby”. Franno reminds me tons and tons of myself; I am an absolute perfectionist with an insatiable appetite for knowledge & wisdom, and I also have to share my knowledge and wisdom with as many people as possible, in hopes I can help those people bring out their best. Franno had Shelly, did amazingly with her, took what he learned and applied it to Elaine to make her even better, and is now doing it to his new athletes. I absolutely saw the video you’re referencing where he made a comment a while back that he doesn’t want Shelly, etc. back, because he needs to make way for all the young talent he wants to teach…great memory! Franno really enjoys taking what he has learned and creating huge stars, and I am the exact same way. It is incredibly refreshing to read a comment from someone who clearly pays attention and knows what they’re talking about…you’ve given me a huge smile!
I think Bolt made a lot of Jamaican and other athletes think that they can slow down once they are infront, Even Bolt could have ran better times if he push straight through the line, They need to cut that out because its not just about winning, but also to make good times, set strong records.
Your reasoning is sound. Kishane has the talent, and with more experience and figuring out how not to let anyone get into his head (plus assuming very little injuries), he will be unstoppable.
Making him seem that he was the favorite going into the games was wrong even with Tia Clayton....she said it was different compared to being in the Jamaican Stadium....I agree in time they will both give the Americans and other countries some problems in the future....agree with you experience does matter over speed....
I agree with you. The Jamaican sprinters appear to be more focused on shutting it down in the heats than finishing strong in the finals. This has got to stop. Kishane and Oblique have it in them to be world beaters, but they can learn a lot from the likes of Tebogo when it comes to execution and temperament.
For real man, he will now know what to do next time. If you listen to his interviews you'll see that he is analytic with his approach to sprinting so he will be back stronger.
Francis needs to train his athletes to run a full race. They all have the same pattern. Shutting down at 60m in a 100m race is a no no. Especially with athletes like Noah Lyles
Franno knows experience is a factor but he also knows his athlete is injury prone and they only managed to find a solution in March and so he couldn't risk running him in competitions to get that experience at the expense of a possible injury before the Olympics. During that interview he had to downplay it to keep his athlete confident, if he we on to say experience matters, his athlete would have had that on his mind and it would have played to his disadvantage. I see nothing wrong with the actions Franno took or the comments concerning his athlete. That comment was to keep Kishane positive
Best comment ever. No one seems to be concern with any of the things you identified. They focusing on he should have leaned more, or he don’t have enough experience. What about Kishane himself. What about how he feels physically and mentally. He’s running the races. He is not bolt or Shelly or Elaine or Asafa. He is Kishane and God has written a story specifically and specially for him. You Jamaicans are usually very hard-core fans. But you seem unbiased in your analysis of Kishane's narrow loss. I admire your willingness to call out a national icon like Steve Francis. Thank you! I comment on a a few statements he made in that same interview and some people bun me out. Another thing, his body was so a custom to shut down before the finish line so that might have been a factor. Bless up Keshane and good content brother
Justin Gatlin said the same thing before the Olympics started saying it would come back to bite him as he was used to shutting down 30m out and never running through the line..... basic athletics taught from young!!
Why not share the medals? Broadbell leaned for the 110m hurdles and got the same time for the Silver medal but was given Bronze. It seems the rules keep changing.
Experience is lessons learned from doing... So the training is what coach Francis was speaking to..as to what the athlete can or can't do. I don't believe KT actually lost that race and the view from left of track at line looking back to right I believe would shed more light on whose torso was at the line first and more importantly, who passed through the line first.... @Inside_Ja how would it benefit Franno's athlete for him to decry Kishane's lack of experience pre race? Franno is the same one that said Shericka wasn't experienced at 200m, and she made an error and dropped out in the heats of the 200m. Franno learned from that and now we're still beating him. Nuance and context matters.
All the athletes need to run straight through the finish line instead of slowing down before reaching the finish line. They need to learn to lean into the finish line / or what we Jamaicans say dip.. If not we will definitely continue to fall short in track and field. A lot of lessons for the athletes to learn from this Olympic 2024
You can't teach experience better you say he should have been places in a few races prior to the Olympics with some of the faster challengers so he could feel pressure towards the end of the race. But again with is injury prone status...you could see how Frano didn't want to risk injuries.
yeah you're spot on but a lot of what no-one is talking about is why on God's green earth you are so busy looking where another athlete is before the race is done. This is a bad habit and he was so busy looking at Kerley and looking for Noah he did not concentrate on getting to the finish line, that is why he tied up because he couldnt see them he was seeing Kerley and panicked. He needs to stop looking for people and look ahead. Look at Tebogo, he was daylight ahead of the field but did you see him looking for Noah, he was looking for the line. That is the habit he needs to break, After you cross the line then you can worry about other people all you want. He young but stop making age an excuse he is 23 years old not a child. Leave that to Quincy Wilson the 16 year old.
experience was overstated. The issue with that race is the inordinate delay at the beginning. I have never seen a 100m or infact any sprint race took so long. Thats why he lost. listen to Asafa. Yess his inexperience played a part too. The organizers did that on purpose. why wasnt it done to any other race!? music at beginning of a 100m final is unheard of!
Stop with the excuses. There were 8 other sprinters that had to wait around the same way Kishane had to wait. This was not a conspiracy against Kishan Thompson. U sound ridiculous

Experience?? Kishane lost to the fastest current 100m runner by 5/1000. yes FIVE ONE THOUSANDTH of a second-. My calculations they averaged 1022 cm/sec- or 1.022cm per 1/1000sec so 5/1000sec is 5 cm- Kishane lost by 5 cm-JUST 2 INCHES!!- not even a BLINK Sometimes -most times-you just get beaten by a better guy-better on that day. Stephen Francis was right-it was not the pressure-Kishane ran like HELL- Noah just ran a but quicker. Kishane has too much upper body weight to haul around-big biceps deltoids-broad shoulders-have to be accelerated-and pushed through the air-they wear you out. U BOLT-that big-was the exception-look at the women-Shelly-ShaCarri-not BIG people-Noah same story Kishane needs to find a way to lose that excess mass-and frontal area-legs lower torso-propel you-not HUGE arms shoulders chest
Seville still doesn't race a lot, he turns up for the qualifier and and the championships and that's it for him. He still could do better with the experience of racing a lot more. Other than that he has a mental blockage problem.
I said the same in another post. Glen Mills's handling of Oblique has been really strange over the last 2-3 years. He has not competed on the Diamond league circuit in more than 2 races in all of that time. It's a joke. He only competes at Racers Grand Prix. How's this guys supposed to learn how to overcome different conditions and competition in time to prep for Championships?
Well now I'm telling you that experience can make you go faster or quicker, however you want to phrase. Experience can make you hold your nerves better and that can determine whether or not you win or lose.

Kishane, he ran 9.79 and lost by 5000th, this is a small margin, this is weak sauce. Kishane handled the pressure well since he ran very close to seasons best 9.77!. According to Stephen Francis, Kishane is prone to injuries, so he should race sparingly . That is nonsense. Treat his injuries and eliminate the cause of those injuries. Sitting at home watching others take your glory does nothing to improve your performance....Kishane's coach was wrong in not contesting the Photo-Finish. 5/1000 sec is too small a margin to lose a Gold Medal. They talked about "rounding up" the results to 2-digits, but this was never done, THEN the results would have read 9.78 (9.784) first place and 9.79 (9.789) second place. Kishane's team let him down, BIG TIME !!

Do you realize that Kishane led for 99.99% of that race only to be out leaned in the final 1%. That's what he meant by "steal" - smh. While agree with not breaking a tradition because of displeased fans but the big picture is, is it a sound or sensible tradition? Here's where I have a problem with it, Noah Lyles is very hypocritical for calling out the NBA for the "World Champions" title while he's doing the very same thing in track and field.
@@johnl69 The truth is, you can't be considered the world's fastest by merit of winning the gold in the sprints when there are actually people who have gone way faster than you have in that given season. Make that sense. It's just like saying world champions when you didn't compete against the rest of the world. "World's Best" would maybe be a better title since you came on top at the highest level.

Even Elaine when she won with 10.61, Francis thought the race was well executed but she hesitated a little at the start. They fixed it, then 10.54! BAM…see what I mean? Francis is a brilliant man…I think he saw what I saw and more!

@stevie586 I fully agree with everything you said. As a fan, I realized that Kishane got a bad start and I believe he rushed his drive phase just to catch Fred and as you said didn't stay in his own lane and was racing Fred instead of executing the race. This came from lack of experience to these situations. Last year on the circuit, Kishanr ran down Christian, Noah and others and almost catch them at the line and reduced his pb to around 10.85. All the races he had this year (except the Olympic final) he was ahead of the pack so he could have focus on his execution. But because of his bad start and trying to catch Fred which ended up that he rushed his phases, it lead to lost of focus in execution. A lot of people are staying because he didn't practice to run through the line, which I disagreed, he ran hard through the line but with poor execution because of the pressure of Fred and lack of experience to cope with this said pressure. He needs more runs on the circuit, since Franno can keep him healthy to deal with this pressure. Also I am delighted that Kishane realized this problem himself and is resolute in making sure it will not happen again.
Also, I like to refer to Kishane as Franno's baby. Franno typically picks an athlete and make them his pet and pour his heart out in them. This is what I observed from the outside looking in. He loves developing young athletes more than training established stars in the sport, which he stated in an interview. He develops and just maintain and move on to the next. That is what he did with Asafa, then Shelly, then Elaine now Kishane. One might say it lead to the breakdown of Shelly and Elaine's relationship and Shelly eventual exit.

It’s not that Kishane had a bad start…Kishane actually had an excellent start, but Fred had an unusually fast reaction to the gun, which put him out front really fast, but Kishane caught and got beside him very fast because Kishane’s drive and acceleration were very good. Fred got out so well it makes others look bad, but the others were great also. But the rest of what you stated, 100%…EXCELLENT POST you just made and I’m in complete agreement with it all except for the start part!
From the beginning, yup, he rushed his drive phase because Fred startled him a bit and he wasn’t use to running against another legit 9.7 runner who could match his power! Franno prepared him for this, but he had to actually experience it in real life to know how it affects him, and now he does. I 100% saw Prefontaine last year where Kishane had a slow start but came on like a darn freight train…lawd…Kishane was coming on strong and ran those guys down big time…it is one of the reasons Kishane has been on my radar all year, despite me thinking Seville would best him; he actually looked tons like Noah in that race, to be honest. Remember he had a race early season but he pulled up, and when he had that race, we are all like, “wait, did you all see that insane start from Kishane”, and we speculated he could go 9.6 or 9.7 with that kind of start…we were on T’s page talking about that (TxT Tracktime), so when he ran that fast, I personally was like, “yup, I know what the heck I saw in him that day”! Then, those 9.8’s and 9.77 had me like, “oh $hit, we Americans are about to lose this one unless Fred comes through and runs one of his old times for the win, LOL”! His execution in all of those races, even the last 9.9, was wonderful and he was in his own element there. But in the final of Paris, he was not Kishane…he was the guy trying to get Fred off his back! Next, I completely agree with you…Kishane ran all the way to the line AND he leaned as hard as he could. Many do not understand when frontside mechanics are done properly, it is difficult to lean as hard as those with the old backside mechanics, but the good thing is the frontside mechanics mean the person hits the line faster also. Last, OMG, you hit the nail on the hit with him being Franno’s “baby”. Franno reminds me tons and tons of myself; I am an absolute perfectionist with an insatiable appetite for knowledge & wisdom, and I also have to share my knowledge and wisdom with as many people as possible, in hopes I can help those people bring out their best. Franno had Shelly, did amazingly with her, took what he learned and applied it to Elaine to make her even better, and is now doing it to his new athletes. I absolutely saw the video you’re referencing where he made a comment a while back that he doesn’t want Shelly, etc. back, because he needs to make way for all the young talent he wants to teach…great memory! Franno really enjoys taking what he has learned and creating huge stars, and I am the exact same way. It is incredibly refreshing to read a comment from someone who clearly pays attention and knows what they’re talking about…you’ve given me a huge smile!

I think Bolt made a lot of Jamaican and other athletes think that they can slow down once they are infront, Even Bolt could have ran better times if he push straight through the line, They need to cut that out because its not just about winning, but also to make good times, set strong records.
Your reasoning is sound. Kishane has the talent, and with more experience and figuring out how not to let anyone get into his head (plus assuming very little injuries), he will be unstoppable.

I agree with you. The Jamaican sprinters appear to be more focused on shutting it down in the heats than finishing strong in the finals. This has got to stop. Kishane and Oblique have it in them to be world beaters, but they can learn a lot from the likes of Tebogo when it comes to execution and temperament.

Francis needs to train his athletes to run a full race. They all have the same pattern. Shutting down at 60m in a 100m race is a no no. Especially with athletes like Noah Lyles
Franno knows experience is a factor but he also knows his athlete is injury prone and they only managed to find a solution in March and so he couldn't risk running him in competitions to get that experience at the expense of a possible injury before the Olympics. During that interview he had to downplay it to keep his athlete confident, if he we on to say experience matters, his athlete would have had that on his mind and it would have played to his disadvantage. I see nothing wrong with the actions Franno took or the comments concerning his athlete. That comment was to keep Kishane positive

Franno is the same one that said Shericka wasn't experienced at 200m, and she made an error and dropped out in the heats of the 200m. Franno learned from that and now we're still beating him. Nuance and context matters.
All the athletes need to run straight through the finish line instead of slowing down before reaching the finish line. They need to learn to lean into the finish line / or what we Jamaicans say dip.. If not we will definitely continue to fall short in track and field. A lot of lessons for the athletes to learn from this Olympic 2024
You can't teach experience better you say he should have been places in a few races prior to the Olympics with some of the faster challengers so he could feel pressure towards the end of the race. But again with is injury prone status...you could see how Frano didn't want to risk injuries.
Since he Is the coach, shouldn't he tell Thompson to lean in at the end, well I think the coach let him down and he should own up to it.

yeah you're spot on but a lot of what no-one is talking about is why on God's green earth you are so busy looking where another athlete is before the race is done. This is a bad habit and he was so busy looking at Kerley and looking for Noah he did not concentrate on getting to the finish line, that is why he tied up because he couldnt see them he was seeing Kerley and panicked. He needs to stop looking for people and look ahead. Look at Tebogo, he was daylight ahead of the field but did you see him looking for Noah, he was looking for the line. That is the habit he needs to break, After you cross the line then you can worry about other people all you want. He young but stop making age an excuse he is 23 years old not a child. Leave that to Quincy Wilson the 16 year old.

experience was overstated. The issue with that race is the inordinate delay at the beginning. I have never seen a 100m or infact any sprint race took so long. Thats why he lost. listen to Asafa. Yess his inexperience played a part too. The organizers did that on purpose. why wasnt it done to any other race!? music at beginning of a 100m final is unheard of!

Seville still doesn't race a lot, he turns up for the qualifier and and the championships and that's it for him. He still could do better with the experience of racing a lot more. Other than that he has a mental blockage problem.
I said the same in another post. Glen Mills's handling of Oblique has been really strange over the last 2-3 years. He has not competed on the Diamond league circuit in more than 2 races in all of that time. It's a joke. He only competes at Racers Grand Prix. How's this guys supposed to learn how to overcome different conditions and competition in time to prep for Championships?

According to Stephen Francis, Kishane is prone to injuries, so he should race sparingly . That is nonsense. Treat his injuries and eliminate the cause of those injuries. Sitting at home watching others take your glory does nothing to improve your performance....Kishane's coach was wrong in not contesting the Photo-Finish. 5/1000 sec is too small a margin to lose a Gold Medal. They talked about "rounding up" the results to 2-digits, but this was never done, THEN the results would have read 9.78 (9.784) first place and 9.79 (9.789) second place. Kishane's team let him down, BIG TIME !!
