Alex's double bass shuffle is SICK. Eddie was a game changer. THE band of my youth at the time. Still one of my favorite tunes ever.

I was a freshman in high school when Van Halen's first album came out. I remember the first time I heard Eruption. It blew us all away!
Eddie was the first guitarist to own a Floyd Rose Tremolo. THE FIRST ONE!
That’s because it wasn’t Floyd’s it was his and I truly believe that .. That was Eddie’s patent!
"Atomic Punk", this whole album is fire
I don't know another song that is that kickass and nonstop with all 4 guys wailing. "On Fire" is a great song as well.
Love this song. My favorite on this album is On Fire. That one is even faster and heavier.

This was what you would hear them playing in the bars. This was A BAR BAND. 😂😂😂 It blows the mind that you could walk into a bar on the strip in the mid-70s and see some kids named Eddie, Alex, Dave and Mike melting faces and ears playing like this. Unbelievable.
And this dropped in 1978, take everything after that and just sweep it off the table, it didn't exist yet, this album exploded 'cuz there was nothing like it, Rock and Roll reborn and it's also a nexus of much heavier metal; Long Live King Edward!

Ed's rhythm playing is absolutely incredible. Plus, Ed's little secret is that he and Al would do these weird time signatures every so often. So, if you come in on a standard count of, 1, 2 3, 4...they could change on a 3 1/2 or even a 5 timing standard and still blend it all together. It's one of those little weird things that made this band stand out among others. This entire band was made up with the right sauces. There were and are so many great bands out there, but VH was in a class all their own. Real Talk. You need to listen to Atomic Punk. The string scrapes with his hand is music by itself. They were WAY beyond their time. 1978 wasn't ready for these guys.

Not a bad song on that album. If you haven't checked out, I'll Wait. Check it out. Great song. Eddie wrote and plays the keyboard. And his guitar solo is one of my favorites. His rymth and timing fit's perfectly with the song.
Ed got writer's block trying to finish "I'll Wait", so Ted Templeman brought in Michael McDonald from the Doobie Brotherrs as a song doctor. He never got credited on the album, and nearly sued VH for it, though it had less to do with VH as with the label, so the matter was settled before litigation began.
@@jackaubrey3037 yeah I remember reading about that. Back then, I dont think it was as big of a deal. Not like now days.
@@mikerichardson8983 it could've been made into a big deal, but Ted produced both bands, and played referee. It's not like Eddie asked for Beat It royalties, either, so he was much more relaxed about helping a brother out than McDonald was.
