Without a doubt. There's Van Halen, and then there's an attempt at emulation of what they were.

Alex's double bass shuffle is SICK. Eddie was a game changer. THE band of my youth at the time.

Eddie was the rhythm riff master IMHO. I love the rhythm playing better than the leads in many cases. Those harmonies with Micheal Anthony. I love it!

He was a great rhythm player who filled in the blanks. I'm glad he never had a second guitar in the band, or at least recording.

Weird huh? For me at 12 it was the guitar tone and the general 'catchiness' of all their tunes. Swing baby swing. My folks listened to a ton of Glen Miller and Big Band music when I was a kid, and it is blatantly obvious where the influence comes from on a core level.
I can listen to Brian Setzer Orchestra and get the same vibe, although not the same drive.

Timeless, Flawless, Effortless... but I digress. Imagine starting Jr. High with this album in 1978 and then getting a new life-changing =VH= album every year through high school. The class of 84 was gifted with the killer album, 1984. I took sides when they split and I followed Dave. I just couldn't handle Hagar's mediocre lyrics and I didn't dig his attitude. In the end, the band ended in style with Ed, his son Wolf, Al, and Diamond Dave. I miss Eddie! I've got tickets to see one of Dave's retirement shows in Vegas. Keep the Classic Van Halen coming and please don't ignore the final studio album, A Different Kind of Truth!

Sammy was the straw that broke the camel's back. Their demise started earlier with their transition to synth-heavy, slower music. "Dancing in the Street" and "Jump" were their first major forays, and the latter's commercial success catalyzed a more concerted effort to shift.

1978 when this album was released I was 11 years old and completely lost my friggin mind to the sounds that were tearing my ears off! I became an instant fan and still remember asking older teens "Who the Hell are these guys?" But nobody on the east coast had a clue this band Van Halen was about to take the entire Rock world by storm!

This song is has great rhythms with catchy solo's in between. It doesnt make sense that a guy that young could play like that. Then he would turn around a play the same thing live. You notice that those solo fills dont repeat that often. This song he plays all his tricks. Dive bombs, whammy bar moves, lead, and tapping.

This is one of those VH songs you could example as what VH was all about. Speed, virtuosity, and song writing especially when it came out. There was nothing even close in guitar playing rock and roll then. There was Page, Shonn, Scholz, Hackett, and Alex Lifeson(*) all amazing artist and players for sure. They all Meerkat like stuck their heads up and took notice. There's a new sheriff in town. That said Edward was very gracious from time to time. *In a magazine interview, he was asked, "how does it feel to be the greatest guitar player ever?", He said, "I don't know, ask Alex Lifeson". Yeah he was the next coming of Jimi Hendrix,....... plus tax.

I have always loved this song because it makes fun of the fan/band relationship. Bands need fans to enjoy and critique their music because it’s a performance art and it pushes them creatively, but fans should recognize that they drive bands crazy because they are always too needy, pushy, invasive, and so quick to turn on a band for trying out new things. I guess it’s a love/hate relationship, and that’s what the VH boys were making fun of in this song. Im sure the “Look at all these little kids takin care of musicbiz” wasn’t written when when they were a bit salty, and “show your love” was their way of snapping back at aggravating fans! I get it. But I bet nobody ever thought about that this song was a slap back at some pushy fans😂😂😂

All of these reactions are so weird because you're always looking at your 'bro' for some sort of approval. This is affirmed when you zoom in on him. Like you're trying to say 'look, I can make a black man appreciate the shit I listen to'.
