Okay so between this and Indieween, are there any indie horror games that came out THIS YEAR that I've missed? I've already got Signalis and EndoParasite written down but I have a feeling there's more.
Ummm.. It's not a "Horror Game" per se, but it _is_ an Indie Game, and it does have a lovely automated audio-jump-scare for whenever you get surprised by a zombie, and the game is so tense and brutally unforgiving that it can _feel_ like a horror game sometimes, but yeah, for about 2 years now i've _REALLY_ *REALLY* wanted to see you do a review of Project Zomboid. I know you recently took a pretty firm stance on no Demos/Early Access games anymore, but i would argue that PZ has been in "Early Access" for 10 years now, but it's really been more than release-able as a full title for at least a year, and the only reason it hasn't been declared feature-complete 1.0 yet is because the eency-teency (i think 2 men and 1 woman) dev are all zealous perfectionists and devout Zombie Movie fans who wanna make as intense, realistic, and fun as possible Zombie Apocalypse Simulation as possible. It truly is a *fantastic* game. And that's coming from someone who picked it up like 3-4 years ago and only put like 6 hours into it up until a couple weeks ago because the game was/is so unrelentingly hard and unforgiving that i just couldn't get into, despite it being by far my favorite game to watch on YT/Twitch all those years at the same time. Finally, this October, i made myself buckle down and just learn how to play, and honest to god, this game made it into my "Top 5 Games you're doing a disservice to yourself as a gamer if you've never played them" alongside The Witcher 3, Age of Empires 2, GTA San Andreas, etc.
Excited that you know about Signalis. I hate playing horrors and have been consuming the entirety of genre via playthroughs or videos like yours. Signalis' demo got me so enthralled with aesthetics and potential story that I'm playing it DESPITE being a horror. And I love it so far. However my love can be based solely on genre inexperience, so I'd be incredibly glad and curious to see your perspective as the genre veteran 👀
I'd say the best indie Horror games released this year (not including the ones you already mentioned) are : Stay Out of the House LIGHT: Black Cat & Amnesia Girl Cultic Withering Rooms My Big Sister: Remastered Ib (Remake)
My favorite detail of FAITH: The Unholy Trinity is John's cross going from gold in the first game to bronze in the third. Indicating how his faith is slowly fading away.
@@Heydad956 both are very probable; I think, if anything, he's losing faith in his fellow man, as they don't believe him about the threats or dangers, while his faith in God is strengthened as the demons fall before his crucifix.
Here’s one detail that either was an oversight or was done to hint that maybe John is lying about his priest status is that he’s divorced. In the Catholic Church, you cannot be married to be a priest. If we assume that John and his wife Molly divorced, John would not be able to qualify as a catholic priest as you are still considered married under the eyes of the church.
I thought about that too. Another theory I came up with is that perhaps at some point he was in a relationship but took up the cloth later in his life... or he's just playing it fast and loose with his vows.
Not necessarily, there are married men who have become priests later in life and are still with their wives, depends on if the Church makes an exception for them or not.
@@wildonionchase3934 Those exceptions are often limited to specific rites though. Eastern Catholics in particular, byzantine, maronites, and I think the Anglican ordinariate. John seems at least from what I've seen, to be a Latin Rite Catholic. Therefore, unless he's a Deacon (unlikely since he's supposed to be a valid exorcist and deacons aren't ordained priests within the Catholic Church) it's not possible for him to be married and a priest. Dude isn't rocking an Eastern style crucifix or garb. My best guess is it's either a past relationship or like Charl said, he's not exactly obeying those vows of celibacy.
Yep! And while Orthodox priests can be married (and often are), or even involved in a non-sacramental second marriage (i.e. divorced and remarried), the chances that John is Orthodox are rather slim given how exorcisms are usually portrayed in media and the names and backgrounds of the other characters. Either way, I think the question is very interesting.
It's surprising what a good year for Indie Horror this year is. With this, Endoparasitic and a few more I could mention. I can only imagine the joy you feel every time someone goes "Oh hey charl! Did you hear about [Insert very intriguing indie horror game here] yet?" an you hastily scribling it onto an ever growing list.
Been playing through Signalis as well, that's another very good horror game for this month to add to the list. In all honesty this October may go down in history as one of the best months for horror games just from the indie scene alone.
@@ceroscentauri7045 now if only the AAA market could give us something. Sure, we're getting a remake for Silent Hill 2 and a remake for Dead Space but those are old games with a new coat of paint. Perhaps the Calisto Protocol will do well?
So fun detail: there’s a section with the purple upside down cross and candles in the room. There’s Hebrew script on the wall and it says “dybbuk.” this refers to a restless spirit that has the ability to possess people or objects in Jewish folklore
Also interestingly in the stone used to seal the chamber, there is also Arabic carved into the stone that would be interperted as "Jinn", i.e. a supernatural entity that while not exclusively evil, are imbued with free will like humanity. Thus if a Jinn wishes to join the Devil, they can entirely do so, and since Jinn are capable of super-human feats, Jinns are very powerful. Though of course, any Jinn that takes this path, and follows the Devil is more thought of as a "Shaitaan" Or Demon. ALSO FUN FACT, in Islamic Theology, Jinns are actually thought to be the things that possess people. So Faith really does a good job of tying all three Abrahamic Faiths together. Which is definitely a plus point in my book
@@oneevidence5153 The Second Death is supposedly being the Whore of Babylon which is the main spawn of The Antichrist in The Book of Revelations, and since "the beast" which is Antichrist is often represented as Seven Headed Dragon and the last proxy of The Devil, the Antichrist will have lesser yet still powerful cohorts of demonic assistance to help him, Seven Headed Dragon are motives of cycles of 7 days occurring in Pagan Pantheon (sometimes represented by 12 too) and it's occurs in Christian Gnostic groups to be representative of 7 Archons or at least one of the Archons being a 7 Headed Dragon too in synch with Book of Revelation's eschatology (albeit there's 1-2 more benevolent ones which redeemed and became fulfilling the role of Old Testament deity in particularly Sethian Cosmology against his chaotic siblings and his parents sprung from Chaos, it's more extensive while being more complicated with it's own sets of Cosmology), if there's narrative sequel to current Faith trilogy, it might even includes the rejected pagan pantheons especially from the Near East which often associated with The Antichrist instead

There’s also an error in one of the notes, the one when Morris writes to Bob. Morris says that Nancy’s delusions had gotten worse, when talking about Cindy (aka Mrs. Martin). Nancy had only been mentioned as Cindy’s friend who is single with no kids. Cindy Martin is also the only family member we know of that has been experiencing insanity since she believes her twins are still alive and have been alive for years despite having been miscarried many years prior to the events of the game.
23:34 This is likely Tiffany in the TV, not Amy. The figure in the TV has the same pink coloring as Tiffany's model and text, as well as it is Tiffany's own apartment she appears in.
I’m pretty sure it’s Amy, as in the games it is pretty well established that John regrets not being able to save her, and is haunted (literally and metaphorically) by the memory of the botched exorcism
@@Gomberto2000 It's Tiffany, as Tiffany performed the SECOND DEATH Ritual on herself, and Amy is always shown in a distinctive purple hue, not to mention the secret bossfight of Act 2. It all points to the woman in the TV being Tiffany, not Amy.
Always a good day when you post. I know you put a good space between horror videos, but I recently picked up "Signalis". I have not completed it yet, but so far it has been worth every cent. I would love to see a review for Killing Time, a obscure horror FPS gem from 1995/1996 made for the 3DO & PC. You explore and shoot your way through a haunted island estate trapped in a time limbo that's infested with zombies, ghost, demons, and many other horrors that are the result of a Ancient Egyptian Curse. It has some unique ideas for it's time like a open-world metroidvania approach to it's exploration, and a actual story told though in-game FMV cutscenes in the form of ghosts. It also has a memorable soundtrack and truly bizarre enemies like tommy gun wielding zombie gangsters, knife throwing zombie chefs, zombie clowns that attack you by tickling you to death, cigarette smoking skeletons that shove fireballs down your throat, and many others. A guy named Tristan855 is working on a GZDoom remaster port of the PC version that will require the original files to play and it will be moddable. He's also found a way to properly rip the sprites and textures from the 3DO version, so we might see a remaster of that someday.creepy
@@CharlatanWonder No, you're probably thinking of Ross's Game Dungeon. Killing Time is one of those games that deserve a remaster, especially the 3DO version.

Honestly i completely and utterly lack constitution to play spooky games. But sometimes i buy them if i enjoy content around them like this video. Good to know that Faith got a solid steam release
CW wrote the guy all that when he could have just said "no".
What can I say? I love to cook and never miss a good opportunity for a roast.
"Be not afraid, John."
"Okay 😁"
*gives Amy a 12 gauge exorcism*
24:00 I think Garcia was talking to Gary.
23:35 That is Tiffany, the rejected vessel, who is pink, Amy is purple.
The prologue for Chapter 2 in Unholy Trinity was actually the demo for Chapter 2 that was released prior to Chapter 2's release.
If this exists in the same universe as DUSK I know a shotgun wielding back flipping solution with a cowboy hat that will solve all of those problems easily
Man your content gets better and better everytime I see your videos! Keep up the great work man! Can't wait to see what you recommend next!
Honestly that reverse patreon sponsor thing is probably the best way to gather new patreons. I was tempted. But then I remember I already have a creator I support and I know this channel for the emtirety of half an hour.
this publisher knows how to find them I loved dusk and iron lung was everything i feared in one place too. Now i have to try this game too
It's not the same Dev, Airdorf didn't make Dusk or Iron Lung, they're just both published by New Blood
@@mrmuyagi9907 huh you are right but I could have sworn i had heard Szymanski worked on it, that does explain the completely different genre and style of game it is
Man the bad ending and good ending leaves me with some questions. Like was she there behind the door the entire time. Why only with the bad ending you can go behind the door. What does the door mean when you have the good ending
You gotta talk about Signalis.
THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY GOOD HORROR GAMES THIS YEAR AND I JUST CAN'T KEEP UP! WE ARE TRUELY LIVING IN BLESSED TIMES! HUZZAH!
13:43 - 16:14 the guy who calls himself a "charlatan" is ironically a fair and honest man. Love you, Charl.
''What i'm about to do has not been approved by the vatican''
-John Faith
just got done playing all 3 chapters in one sitting and let me tell you the third chapter had me GOING THROUGH IT with all of the puzzles and weird shit that you had to figure out
there's loss at 4:30 on the curtains
Never seen any of your vids, just finished the ANTI-sponsor. Subscribed.
damn that response email to the "sponsor" was SO great. fantastic teardown
8:25 ive been thinking about it. Since i played c64 as a kid. An kin of watch it through a kids eye. All the black and lack of details. Plays with your fantasy, you kind of fill in the void with imagination. Like reading a book
This is my first video of yours I see.
Nice one!
awesome, another Charlatan wonder video. sweet catholic spookies :D
This is the first time I've come across your content on RUclips, and I've instantly subscribed the second you gave those jerks that well worded email about their business practice. I'll most certainly be checking out your other content!
My favorite part in this game is when John pulls out his cross and says "It's mortis time"
7:44 The prologue wasn't new, that's just the demo for chapter II that Airdorf incorporated into the actual game
Knock-Knock!
Who’s There?
MORTIS
Antisponser segment was fun
this is useless information but regardless, at 20:08 on the floating thingy the text to the left says "جن" which translates to djinn which is a supernatural creature in islam, but is mostly mistaken with demons, so the sign there means demon, idk what the one on the right is but it also probably translates to demon. im glad they didn't just use gibberish lol
Anti-Ads are F I R E good shit lmao
You missed your chance to say "don't forget, Gary loves you"
I like the part where John said it’s mortin time and morted everywhere
incredible work but thats to be expected
20:13 the arabic words in purple say "jinn" :0 idk what the hebrew words are, probably smth similar
"What I am about to do has not been approved by the Vatican"
*kisses a guy*
23:35 that’s actually Tiffany, not Amy. They have similar colors but the woman on the tv is pink, not purple.
YOO FINALLY SOMEONE MADE A VIDEO ON THIS GAME ITS SO UNDERRATED PEOPLE KEEP ON MAKING VIDEO'S ON BAD GAME'S SOMETIMES THERE NOT EVEN ACTUALL GAMES LIKE DOORS!
Very well done Video! I really enjoyed it, thanks :)
This game in vr would be beyond scary
Try to pet belly?
M O R T I S
That seems familiar. Didn't Civvie do a video on that a few months back?
@@CharlatanWonder No, you're probably thinking of Ross's Game Dungeon. Killing Time is one of those games that deserve a remaster, especially the 3DO version.
bro u didnt have to go sa hard on that anti-sponsor segment, subbed out of respect
Frisk be like: excuse you sir, I have BEEN a loaf for some years and intend to continue.
While I do appreciate the amount of effort that went into creating your anti-sponsor response.
A simple "No, go away" would have been enough, you know they ain't going to read all of that.
I’ve never been scared of horror movies before. However, I remember hiding under my blanket watching someone _else_ play Faith.
ive been looking at the side art and when it was the purple on i always thought that was a hand coming from the sleeve and the girl was looking away
NOPE THE ARM IS COMING OUT HER FACE
In the folders of the game, one of the extra files is "the story so far", but I think that's been retconned.
12 gauge Jesus stick, that is like the most yee haw southern thing I’ve heard in a long while and I love it
if you like indie horror games you should check out the haunted ps1 demo disc that came out this year! its a bunch of horror game demos and theres a new one yearly, i think this years was about a mall you explored to unlock other demos? either way its great stuff if you havent checked it out yet
Ooh yeah! I love that and the Dread X collections! Like I said in this year's indieween, the only reason I don't include them for things like indieween or the Halloween special is that they're such a great value it feels like it's cheating if I include them for the indieween challenge (get 5 indie games for less that the price of a single AAA title)
Correct, LinkedIn is worse than facebook. Liked and subbed.
I’d never seen your videos but I love Faith, hate corporate sponsorships/NFTs, and dislike when alleged “indie” channels shill for them. So this was nice. Good work.
That thing about the candy is no joke; just last year one of my nieces found Batman Doom stuffed inside a Milky Way. 👀
To be fair, the latest episode of "Wiggly Dude on the TV" was hilarious
that was not merely an "anti sponsorship", that was a fucking french revolution execution in the form of words
