Backlund is a far, far better player. He makes guys better when they play with him. Worked out great for the Flames. Also, Backlund is a career + player, Lindholm is way minus for his career.
Sounds crazy because Backs never put up huge points, but it's true. Other than a handful of seasons when he was just coming into the league, it's been what, 12 years straight where he's been the driver on his line and one of the best defensive forwards in the league? Never have to worry about putting him with players that carry him, as he's the one who always made guys around him way better. Bouma, Frolik, Ferland, Tkachuk (turned into a star playing with Backs), Coleman, etc. Some of those guys were really good, but still, Backs is such a steady presence on a line with anyone.
Poutypants cannot drive his own line....possibly the biggest disappointment ive ever watched on the Flames where it comes to these are my pouty pants snd ill where them when i want to. Selfish player who really showed who he was in Van and they found it out real fast.
He didn’t always play with Tkachuk and Gaudreau, he lit it up his first year playing on Monahan’s wing as well. He was really good the whole time he was here except for a season and a half. He has a much better shot than Backlund but is similar in other ways (defensively/even keeled/unassuming)
His first year he played with Monahan and Gaudreau all season long, that was when the purple Gatorade line was created. He was never a similar offensive player when he wasn’t playing with Johnny, it is what it is.
Look at shooting%. If Elias was at career shooting % (this is unsustainably low) he'd have 6. If he was scoring at his highest rate 17% (like with Gaudreau and Tkachuk which was unsustainably high) he'd have 9. If he had 9, no one would be saying anything except Pinder who'd be going on about how lucky and unsustainable it is. Goes both ways. Elias can be a top line RW, he can be a top line center with two generational talents. But he can't carry a top line with just good wingers, he never did/could. Great all around player though currently in a slump.
The Backlund comparison isn't fair to Backlund. Backs is a better skater than Lindholm who probably should go back to being a right winger to be honest.
he coasted in vancouver through most of the regular season then stepped it up in the playoffs. got the bag with boston and he is coasting again.
That sucks to hear about Lindy. We loved him when he was here. Well except the last year maybe lol

Of course he scored 🤣🤣🤣

Never was a fan of Lindholm, always thought tkatchuk and Johnny hockey carried him no off to Lindholm.

He might get one 30 goal season max. Next year.

Lindy is not a #1 centre anymore. He was getting to play against 3rd pair d-men in Vancouver
As huby has the same odds to score tonight LOL

Boston is going to become the next pittsburgh with Lindholm until he's 36. Way too old to stay competitive.
Apparently 30 is the new 40 lmao
sounds like Huberdeau!!!!
