    Update. At the range ten days ago, my wife was using her PK 380. She fired a few rounds and noticed the front sight was gone. It had fallen off. I called Walther that same day and was told I would have to send the weapon in because the sight is welded on and they would have to replace the complete slide. They emailed me a return form to print out and a few minutes later FedEx emailed me a prepaid label. All I had to do was pack it up and take it to the local shipping store. Took just over a week to complete the transaction and it cost us nothing. Excellent customer service!

    Thank you so much for posting this video! I just purchased one, it's my first firearm and I haven't shot it yet because I wasn't sure why I could still pull the trigger with the safety on. This is the only video I've found that explains how the safety works on this gun. So again, thank you very much!

      This safety set up is a great thing as long as you make yourself completely familiar with which way the safety is ON!! I own one also and I fear it is so easy for someone to forget and think the safety is on ,,,when it is not. Try to remember,,"when you see fire",,it is hot!!

      That would be a problem fir me. People have warned me not to buy it for that reason. Now I read the the guy's comment above this one. Scary it may fall apart.

    Nice review...very clear and to the point. I really like Walther and have carried these firearms for years. My go to gun has been a Walther PPS in .40S&W for a very long time. Nice job in demonstrating how easy this pistol is to draw, aim and fire. Keep up the great work. Have you shot the new Walther PDP yet? Great pistol with a incredible trigger.

    The PK380 is my everyday carry firearm. Lightweight, easy shooting, and to date no failures. I've been using it for two years now and I'm happy with it. The grip is a little small for me but that's the only compromise. I haven't seen a better hammer fired carry gun in that price range. Sorry Sig, I love you, but not enough to drop $600 on a P238.

    Good shooting! My wife loves her PK380 too. We have had it since they first came out and it is the first pistol she loved the first time she fired it. It does have a great trigger and the safety enables you to carry it with one in the chamber and a full magazine with no stress on the hammer spring, yet it is totally safe. Walther really did their homework on this pistol, the weight to recoil is perfect, because of that weight there is virtually no recoil. That weight enables them to use a lighter recoil spring too evidently, because it is very easy to rack the slide. She shoots hers very accurately, which is important in a self defense weapon and best of all, she is completely happy with her Walther PK380. This is a great video, you folks hit the important points and the ladies enthusiasm for her pistol speaks volumes, and makes so much sense to me because my wife is equally enthused with her Walther.

      I know this is a couple years late but I bought my wife the same handgun shown in the vid. And no matter how hard we try we can't get any sort of consistent hits on target...I own other handguns and this walther seems to be the only one giving me troubles...but the wife likes it alot so I guess we will keep it and ill just buy something else haha!

    • @CraneofBoulogne
      @CraneofBoulogne 3 года назад

      @@lilredwagon5311 I can only guess but maybe you could try different ammo but of course now any ammo one can find and buy is the ammo one buys and shoots. I handload ammo for our own use here at home. We make a low power target round using cast lead and Ramshot zip powder. It is a slower moving round, but it still cycles the action just fine. It means nothing to me if it takes a fraction of a second longer for the bullet to reach the paper target, the super low recoil, low noise report and no flash makes the entire process a lot more fun for my wife. Honestly, she is a little better shot than i am with her pistol, but i put that down to my pistol being a snub nose 38. Hopefully this simple information will help you folks. My wife loves her PK380 too and that old adage, happy wife happy life holds true here i think.

    PK 380 update: My wife and I took her new PK380 to the range today for the first time. We went through just under 100 rds of Win. white box and a couple of mags of Winchester PDX1 Defender. No malfunctions of any kind. She found the PK 380 very manageable and comfortable to shoot. She especially likes the full size grip and, oddly, the mag release; claims it's much easier for her to operate than the push button variety. Another plus is the ease with which she can load the magazines; a feature you mentioned in your review. Altogether a positive experience.
    Ammo alert: Most who read this live near a Walmart so check out their price on 9mm ammo. I just bought Win.white box, 100rd packs for $18.97.

    I'll get back to you re the PK380 soon as she puts a couple hundred rounds through it. As an aside; my wife and I are both senior citizens and she has arthritis problems in both hands. Most slides are very difficult for her to operate but she was able to rack the PK380 with no problem. Just in case there any readers out there with similar limitations.

    • @whywomenshoot1556
      @whywomenshoot1556  7 лет назад

      Excellent, thanks for the feedback. The fact that a woman with arthritis can pull the slide back is exactly why we want to get the message out on this gun. I think most senior citizens as well as people with disabilities should be able to operate this gun but may not be aware. Please spread the word!

      Rich Ki. I'm also a dude and have owned this pistol since 2013. I have about the same amount of rounds through mine with no issues. When I first acquired the firearm, I had to send the slide into Walther for replacement. A bad chip developed in the breach area. So, now the gun has two serial numbers. Ever since the new slide and breach, it has performed just fine. Great pistol overall, but I can't help but knock it for the key needed to disassemble/field strip. Maybe a better guide rod/recoil spring setup?..like a captive one? I'd change a few things, but excellent carry, starter or range gun. I need to hit the range! Thanks for sharing- Jeremy

    Excellent video, just sub'd and really love the safety discipline!! In fact I'm going to be getting my partner of 22yrs into the shooting sports whose name also happens to be Karen, and I'm going to have her watch this video because I'm that impressed with the safe handling practices! Yes I know what's taken me this long to introduce her to guns that I've been around for 45plus yrs!! Anyway, quick question, since she is new to guns do you think the mag realease would present any issues as far as handling other firearms that have the push button style realease? If we go with this gun it would probably be her defensive gun and the other just for fun shooting. I guess what I'm asking is the ergonomics of this gun suitable for a noob?? Thanks again for a great video!!

  • @5153flash
    @5153flash 6 лет назад +4

    I have noticed from watching several videos about this weapon. Allot of people wonder about the safety. As seen in this video,,the trigger can still be pulled with safety ON,,and the hammer will still fall. But with safety ON(in down position) the hammer cannot hit the firing pin. If you own this weapon,,I suggest make Dam sure you are confident that you know which way the safety works ,,with NO doubt!!
    If you can see the "S",,the safety is ON!! = lever in "down" position
    If you can see the "F" it is ready to fire!!= lever in "up" position. While lever is in this position,think of it like this. The lever is also pointed in ---> the ---> direction ----> of aim,parallel with bullet path and ready to FIRE!
    Another way to beat this into your mind!!! "Is if you see fire,(F),it is hot!!"
    The way this safety works ,can be a great thing if you know how to use it. If you dont take the time to get this right,with confidence,,it could be the most dangerous weapon you own!!!

      Andrew -n- Leah I bought an SR 22 and a SIG Mosquito. I couldn't decide which one I wanted, so I bought them both. The Mosquito was straight garbage. i'm not sure if the european and the american pk380 is the same but in europe we have a passive safety for the hammer and a security position for the hammer , so i always carry it with one in the chamber and put the hammer to security position. if you do that u don't need to have the safety on, since it is not ergonomic for a fast draw and unsafety ( for me )

    There is a lot of criticism out there over this gun. About jams. Most of the time it’s because they’re not using the right ammo. Some guns are real finicky over what they can fire well. All the different ammo makers use different powders. So you don’t have the same blow back force amongst all the ammo acres. Some have strong blow back which illuminates all the jams if some half week blow back when the round goes off. And if it’s a certain kind of gun it will cost jams.

      Thanks for your reply. Yes! I am able to use the gun. the slide is one of the smoothest I have seen. this gun is exactly what i was looking for. It is not to hard to pull the slide back and the size of the frame of the gun makes the "kick" very manageable. With most other pistols after a few clips i am done. with the PK380 I can put a few boxes through with no problems. Thank you again,

  • @chassoto
    @chassoto 7 лет назад +2

    You shouldn't be "reaching for the trigger" on your followup shots, no matter the action type. You should follow through on the initial pull, release only until you feel (and possibly hear) the reset, then pull again. What you described would cause unnecessary "bounce". You probably didn't actually do that, as your followup was right on top of the initial. Anyway, DA/SA can be quite accurate. You just have to practice that transition. I'm definitely a DA/SA fan over strikers.

    + Why Women Shoot Very good pistol except for the take down tool! Another fine pistol I think you will like is Sig P238 .380 a.c.p. it is smaller in size and easy to rack the slide. 1911 style single action. The real plus is if your ready to set up to 9 mm the Sig P 938 is the exact same size as the .380. Shooting that .380 as well as you do, I'm thinking your ready for the 9 mm. .380 a.c.p. is fine for self defense, but 9 mm gives you a wider variety of ammo choices and better penetration and expansion. Nice review! Rent a P 938 and try it if you can, I think you will be sold on it.

    • @cacinaz8802
      @cacinaz8802 6 лет назад

      No, actually the P938 is same height but a bit longer with a 3" barrel versus P238's 2.7" barrel. Recoil factor is about twice that of the P238 according to Genitron. The Sigs and Walther are different guns. Both have a manual safety (PK380 is ambidextrous), but the P938/P238 (.380 auto) are single action in the 911 style - so carry method is cocked and locked which I don't like for my wife's use. The PK380 can be carried with one in the chamber but hammer down, safety on - since it is DA/SA. Drop the safety and the first shot is DA, then SA. Felt recoil is very low on the PK380 and obviously Karen loves this pistol. The P938/P238 is a pocket gun, whereas the PK380 is a bit too large for that (but will fit in a purse easily). And most importantly it can be bought in different colors (very important for the ladies that want style). Walther was obviously thinking in terms of what women might prefer. The Sigs are all metal frame versus the Walther's polymer frame, but the Sigs are nearly twice as expensive. I own a P938 SAS, which is my ECG -- and I really like it and it's very accurate - but I think the PK380 would be a better choice for my wife than the P238. I will get one (purple) for my wife - after she test fires it.

    My wife had both the Sig P238 and the Ruger SR22. Wasn't' comfortable with the single action of the Sig and has had multiple reliability problems with the SR22. The SR22 is waiting for UPS pickup as I write this; going back to Ruger for the second time. The most serious malfunction was an out of battery discharge. In my opinion an unacceptable failure for any handgun. We're on our way to Cabelas tomorrow to pick up the Walther PK380. The SR22 goes to the local gun shop on consignment as soon as we get it back from Ruger. Lots of reviewers love the SR22 but my wife's not one of them. But, that's what makes a horse race, right?

    Sounds like they made some improvements. Maybe I got an early model or it's not broken in, but it's one of the worst guns I own. It's trigger is gritty and clunky, The slide is not smooth at all and I can actually get it stuck if I gently release it. Hurts my finger to fire it as well. The safety is backward to what I'm used it as well, but that is my problem. I'm probably going to sell it.

      For range ammo I would use any full metal jacket ammo that you can find at a decent price. For concealed carry, there are a couple of .380 loads today that pass the FBI test, or come very close to it. One is the Sig Sauer V-Crown 90gr JHP. The other is the Remington Golden Saber 102gr JHP. I highly suggest the Sig V-Crown but both have good test results.

    My wife has had some problems with the rounds feeding and some mis-fires and I have tried different ammo. Has anyone else had any problems with this gun ?

      Have you tried the Walther Forums? They have a lot of great info. If this pistol doesn't work out you might try the PPS M2 instead. It is a magnificent 9mm and about the same size as the Pk380. The CCP is another choice in 9mm with a lighter recoil spring/blowback design.

      I have not seen that problem on this gun. I would give Walther a call.

    Hey Karen. Great informational video. Do you have any experience with the Ruger lc380? If so, could you give me your opinion on the different trigger pull between it and the pk380? Thank you 😊

      I have dry fired that gun but have not shot it. What I think I remember is it had a stiffer trigger than the Walther but I do not remember for sure. If you are interested in them both, go to your local gun shop and dry fire both of them.

    H&K also has the thumb paddle mag release. Great for those with arthritis or otherwise compromised hand strength.
    Too bad Walther didn't put that on the CCP.

      That's the European style of mag release. And the heel style as heel, cause the European shooting school has the tradition of retaining the mags instead of discarding them like the US tradition does

    Take the whole stupid GD safety crap out of this gun. And it becomes a slight improvement over the sig p232.

      It's not that big a deal. That's much more of a concern with old rimfire rifles and hammer fired pistols with the firing pin on the hammer.

    • @Unrequitedonelove
      @Unrequitedonelove 7 лет назад

      Yeah umm no one knows that because it’s an old wives tale regarding rim fire guns with firing pins and modern centerfire semi automatics are strikers. 🤷🏼‍♂️
