  • I cut into the steering coloum and create a fully new, standalone powersteering column setup.
This JDM legend always needed this upgrade, and If you don’t plan on running AE86 steering rack, this is the easiest Way about it.
If I ever had a car that embodies my motto... this is it!

Impressive work getting that under the dash and all the lengths reconciled. Hope it drives like you want.

      Cheers. 🙏
I hope so too! I don’t really know what I wan’t from this one… but dayli driving like it was sucked… so I’m just hoping to see a little improvement in the feel of wrestling with the r888r’s that on the fronts….

Nicely done but why not a R&p conversion. The car will steer a lot tighter. I have a TA23 and i have engineered a complete new crossmember with shortened (no welds) rack of an AW11. With the same geometry as the TA23 originally is. Steeringrack geometry adopted from ae86 and altered to match TA23 geometry. Now it is like a go kart. Maybe in the future i want to peoduce these units. For a bolt on R&P conversion

I Would have loved to do a rack and pinion job of some kind…
But the truth is I sold, like a complete ae86 front swap, just before buying this one… So I could basicly have done the lot in one go… brakes, r&p, suspension etc… so kicking my self a bit about it.
And this was just meant as a “Quick” paintjob that just Got out of control…
But the steering is gonna be horsecarridge like, I know… but for not, That’s fine… 🙏👍
If you made a complete kit I bet you Would shift some units…🙋‍♂️👍

@@DavidRoadworthyish i have tried this also, that is why i ende up designing the whole crossmember entirely. First of all, i want to run the 2TG engine. Ae86 crossmember is just to flat. The crank of the engine would hit the crossmember. And yes i made some spacers to lower the LCA's to the correct beight. On the TA23 the track is wider then your ta22 and even on a TA23 the trackwidth is 3cm to wide. This would be even more. But the biggest issue is that in even the best possible placement of the ae86 crossmember you end up with negative caster on your struts.

@@barthoogers3957 Cheers man. And cool that you "just" designed your own... It would be the best and biggest technical upgrade to do to any steering box cars I guess..

What car (model+year) did the electric power steering column part come from?
Love the vids, keep up the good work!!

      Thank you so much man…
It’s from a 2005 Yaris. Supposed to be “stand alone” so I might be able to do some wiring tricks

@@DavidRoadworthyish Nice! I thought it looked like the Yaris one I'd seen on a couple builds but could never find what year it was, that's a big help man I appreciate it. The vid is really interesting and will help me out a ton when I get around to it myself, thanks again
