Welcome to the Letterman RUclips Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.
"He completely disappeared into Men's Pants" might be my favorite line ever uttered in one of these. Colleen, don't you dare be down on yourself, you came off AWESOMELY!!!!
Fine Wine
Is that how Dave came up with World Wide Pants?
Absolutely, you were great! And, to know your Mom got to meet him, too. ❤
She is delirious.
Colleen has the best giggles 😂
This segment never gets old. Thanks for the laughs Colleen. Best wishes for the future.
The original segment was hilarious, her return on Late Show was so sweet for us long-time viewers, and this is the perfect capper. Thanks so much to all involved!!
Colleen - if you are reading this: you are obviously a lovely person. Your genuine personality and terrific presence shines through. You deserve every happiness in life.
Totally
Colleen shouldn't be embarrassed at all about her appearance. She was very cute and charming, even if she was too nervous to deal with Dave's shenanigans.
Colleen, you truly got more than what you have bargained for. I mean, you are now a part of Late Night history. Congratulations and Thank you.
It was awesome to see Colleen again...😊
Amazing how Colleen just showed up to the Show and they recognized her, I thought it had been planned lol “Thanks for being part of our history” that gave me goosebumps, so happy for Colleen, this couldn’t have happened to a better person she was absolutely great. Side note, she was very cute back then and today 40 years later, she got even better looking!!!
Now, I want to know what happened to the kid he interviewed in the 90s who said, "accidents happen" after he pushed his friend down the slide.
She has such maturity, grace, and beauty. You have to like and respect someone that can laugh at themselves in such a balanced way.
"This guy sat on your bed."😂
That's the part that cracked me up most...lol
@SlapthePissouttayew Editing to include him actually sitting on the bed is top notch as well.
This makes me so happy! I’ve always loved the Colleen segment from the old days, it’s so genuine and funny. Great to see you again, Colleen. You look amazing. Thanks, Letterman, for sharing
Probably the segment I watched more times over and over again on my Dave videotapes. Absolutely one of the best things ever on television. Thank you for being such a good sport, Colleen. You made my life better.
One of my genuinely favorite segments from the NBC show - so good to see Colleen again. One can only imagine how surreal it must have been to be at work and have Dave & a crew show up looking for you. Also, nice to know that Sears is fine with its employees being made fun of....just so long as you don't make fun of Sears! 😄
well this put a smile on my face...what a terrific memory.
An amazing moment. Wonderful to revisit this memory and catch up with Colleen.
Such a sweetie and one of the best & funniest remote segments ever.
Colleen Boyle! Legend! One of my absolute favorite segments ever on Letterman.
Colleen has the distinct pleasure of being in one of the best Letterman bits.
She’s so genuine. Wonderful
I am so grateful to have grown up in the Letterman Era of late night...there will never be anyone like Dave.
One of the best live bits they ever did :). Sometimes they come across a little mean spirited, but that laugh just sells the piece as something less than serious :D.
This is everything funny about Late Night condensed into one segment and Colleen made it happen!
So glad you came back to do this segment, Colleen! When I was young and skinny, I could disappear into men's pants.
Can you imagine how happy her brother was when Dave asked to see her bedroom?
He would have likely agreed to anything Dave asked! Can you imagine Dave Letterman and a camera crew showing up at your house?
@@kstepko "This fat sound guy is gonna sit on your sister's bed."
Thanks, Coleen! I giggle at that bit every time it resurfaces! Thanks for being a good sport.
Always thought you had the BEST laugh Colleen! Such a great piece of late night history. One of the absolute best moments.
"By the way, did we untie Neil?" gets me every time
This was one of my favorite moments of the show. The "thirsty bath towel" comment and the guy from the camera crew sitting on your bed are things my college friends still talk about to this day.
So great to see Colleen! She’s a big part of comedy television history. Not many can make that claim!
This was so great! I remember that hilarious segment well. So funny and glad to revisit her.
This was always one of my favorite bits from viewer mail! How I would have loved for Letterman and his crew to show up at my home or place of work! I can imagine getting uncontrollable giggles while being in Dave's presence and being on camera. I thought Colleen comported herself quite well in that unusual circumstance. I *still* find it funny and entertaining all these years later!
I think she charmed Dave.
So great that Colleen came to see Dave in person once more as the Late Show was winding down!
I remember this episode like it was yesterday. The shot of the crew member sitting on the bed was priceless.
Yes! The whole segment came right back to me!
Meg and Colleen clips back to back days 👍
A nice treat to see a bit hold up for so long and Colleen being a good sport about it.
I was a big Letterman fan and I think the Colleen Boyle segment on Viewer Mail was the single best moment ever on all the Letterman shows. Whenever I passed that Sears I always thought of that show.
Colleen you were great!
I love these clips that preserve Letterman's legacy. His show was groundbreaking and deeply influential to comedy as a whole. Truly one of the greats of comedy. If you were there when it was happening, you were one of the lucky ones. I count myself as one.
Colleen, whether you know it or not, you are a Late Night legend.
This is GREAT. I remember seeing her segment back in 1982. BTW, love how the Letterman channel brings back all the staff to share their memories. Oh, and Colleen, too.
The segment originally aired in 1986.
@@allendracabal0819 sorry, I stand corrected. Hey, we can both agree that it was a long time ago.
One of Dave’s best remotes ever.
Well this was just delightful.
The only thing Colleen did, was to send a question "What's the deal with the sneakers? And look what happened. 😂 No one will ever come close to Dave's geniusness
Conan O'Brien does when he gets out of the studio.
I love that Colleen came back to see Dave.
first of all, colleen, you were one of if not the most genuine of all people featured on dave's remotes during those early days. frankly i think this was the staff's best gig, from the moment dave arrives at the house, nobody home, they wait around (didn't dave start mowing the lawn?) and then the brother arrives and all just kept falling into place. since i worked nights in the 80's, i watched a ton of those 12:30 am shows. by the time he moved to cbs i was working days and rarely stayed up past the monologues. but those last couple months in '15 were must see, and when dave took off his shoes and the camera cut to colleen in the audience, her identity clicked for me and i'm sure many others. perfect ending to a perfect arc of a perfect bit. ;)
I remember her on the old show. Thanks for the memories.
She was so cute then and still is !!!
Love the staff clips, and adding Colleen was a stroke of genius. Would be fun to see more memories from people on the show too. Whether regulars like Teri Garr or Sandra Bernard, or obscure 'real-life' people like Colleen. Fingers crossed we may one day actually see Arnie Barnes on camera!
This is comedy gold. No one did this like Dave. He could make comedy out of any situation. He was great when harassing the common man, or woman. Later hosts were mean to the public to get a laugh, Dave was golden.
I remember watching this when it aired. Great to see it again.
Aww Colleen! You came off adorable, stunning and really sweet then and now. Please no putting yourself down like that!
This had to be one of the best segments of Dave's years on tv. Since the clip has been on RUclips, I show it to everyone I know. Colleen, you were amazing. Maybe you'll be invited to cohost on Dave's and Barbara's RUclips podcast lol. Best of luck and congrats.
My daughter was a teenager when this aired and she taped it on a v8. His was the funniest segment ever because of her surprise and laugh..it was so uplifting and never gets old to watch.. thank you Colleen and Dave!
This is a great get...wonderful work from the Letterman team. 😊
This was great to hear from Colleen. One of the best segments ever! How's Neil? Now track down Meg Parsont for an interview!
Did you see yesterday's post? - It was all about Meg! (no current day interview though).
And Arnie Barnes.
@@allendracabal0819 "...uhh, yep"
Lucky girl 😉 Great memory and even better when she went back to the show and now this video 👍🏼 awesome!
Colleen has great taste in music also....I LITERALLY just listened to the full "Hello, I must be going" album by Phil Collins last weekend (...streaming though, not on vinyl).
This is so great. I watched it with a big smile on my face.
I've watched that segment so many times. Late Night was just the friggin' best. Endlessly ridiculous and entertaining. And such great live music.
I couldn't agree more!
How great is this? What a wonderful thing for this channel to be doing. I truly hope there will be more of these. Would that beardy guy who does Barbara Gaines' show do a segment about some of his favorite moments?
I've remembered that guy sitting on her bed for the last 35 years.
I love her nervous giggle. It's A LOT better than mine. You did awesome Colleen. Too bad her brother wasn't on. I wonder as well if he knew who Dave was. Lol.
Classic Dave! Love her, too
I love the Staff segments, but these are gonna be great ! PS. This one was so sweet ! 😢😅
I’m almost sad to hear that Colleen was given some grief about her laugh - I like it. I think she was such a good sport, especially given the total ambush. This is in my top 5 best ever Letterman moments.
This was so much fun! Thanks Colleen!
This is wonderful! It's so nice to see Colleen is doing well. I think she and Meg Parsont should do their own talk show together.
Meg & Colleen were classic, original comedy. They both played along perfectly. They were my favorite memories of Late Night along with Teri Garr.
@@Muncy62 I definitely agree about Teri Garr. I recently rewatched all of her Letterman appearances on Don Giller's RUclips channel. Priceless!
@@LDBetaGuy Yes!! Don has done fantastic work. Have watched all the Teri Garr & Meg compilations more than once. I'd like to see an interview with Meg. We are the same age.
Colleen, if you can see this, let me tell you, honestly, you ARE memorable. I loved this spot, with you, on the show. I wondered, even, how you were, now. Thank-you, SO MUCH, for checking-in! Oh, one thing, more: I LOVE your laugh; take THAT, Mr. Pennyloafers!
As soon as this video showed them in Sears, I remembered it, and had a vivid memory of the sound tech sitting on her bed. Funny how memory works.
This is great!!! I remember this letter vividly! Great job tracking her down! Could you post the date of the original viewer mail...as well as her appearance in the Late Show audience up in the top comments box? (for the record...I thought she had a cute laugh).
This might be my favourite Letterman post on RUclips. Especially the look back at her in the audience and Dave's crew being so quick to get the archival shot.
And really, it looked as if Dave actually remembered it when being reminded who she was. If anyone has ever worked with the public a lot, it's almost impossible to remember the many faces seen through the years. So that says a lot.
OH MY GOD you got her back for an interview haha that's amazing 😂 I remember cracking up at him visiting her in the store back in the day seeing it on TV, never thought all these years later we'd get an update from the woman herself!
Colleen is such a doll, and has Fun Factor!
Interviewing Colleen Boyle like this was genius. They should do more of these!!
It's awesome to see her again! Are you going to check in with Meg Parsont?
Wow! I’ve watch @dongiller version of this many times hahaha glad to see her perspective on this.
Thanks for being such a food sport, Colleen! It's no wonder this bit ended up on more than one 'staff favorite' segment.
4:55 "by the way did we untie Neal?" ... genius at work. Letterman was a pioneer.
This is cool bringing back people who were on the show. I remember Colleen and she's looking great! And much more poised than at Sears.
This is awesome. Thanks for the memory!
Those segments were the best! Dave was in his element, never laughed so hard :)
Great stuff. Would be fun to see more clips like this one. Colleen has a great sense of humor.
Hopefully no girl ever says the best part of ME being in their bedroom is when I picked up their Phil Collins album.
so nice to see Colleen again. what a wonderful memory. I love that Steve disappeared into the PANTS.
This segment made my week.
I loved this so much. Made me laugh and laugh. Thank you for sharing again.
Always my favorite remote!
Whoever is producing the content for this channel - THANK YOU! Your work triggers a flood of memories and 'full circle' moments to those of us who religiously watched Late Night/Late Show.
this channel is as awesome as it can be
This is one of my favorite bits on the show. Thanks Colleen.
More of this!! So great.
I remember watching this on the day it aired. "This guy right here was sitting on your bed" just broke me.
I love her laugh.
I always liked Colleen’s laugh
I will never forget watching that when it first aired in 1986!
Love this! So many amazing memories. Thanks for putting this together. I love that the Letterman team is so active on RUclips.
“This guy was sitting on your bed.”
I worked at Sears in 80s as well. Classic Letterman I remember the episode. Colleen does look great.
LOVE this- and I really loved David Letterman's early work!
awesome. totally remember this. classic stuff.
