Not only pop culture, but we were in a time that the tail end of the *someday your prince will come* era. Madonna gave us the strength to break loose from norms. Made it ok to want to have sex even if ur a girl. Culture icon
@@lauras.6339 She admitted before that was just self-centred and for provocation without consequences. Even though she is back at it with the claim for "champion against ageism". I think its more fight against wrinkles, change and not trending. Not realistic but nonetheless her prerogative. I rather focus on her ground breaking music videos and equality for women. People say she never superceded Michael Jackson but i think she did at times. Her impact was felt worldwide although largely misinterpreted at the time. Only princess diana was more a phenomenon at that time. I still think her message is relevant. But its really not translating through botox, filters and bare nipples anymore.
I think the TOM HOLLAND's story gives us the perfect name for a pop song: "I left Madonna on the dance floor"

@@GPBKM Hmmm....no. Her overall impact on pop culture is very limited. Most people in the US would only really know her by one song, whereas genuine legends have a litany of hits that have established them in the public consciousness, as well as an outsize personality that precedes them. Kylie is too 'nice' and down to earth to be able to compare.

The woman sold close to 100 million records worldwide! She's the first and only female so far to have no.1 albums in 5 consecutive decades in the UK chart, the last one was only last year. @@GPBKM I'm not American. I live in east London and grew up in the Midlands. But, for good or for ill, there's no denying that America exerts a huge influence on the world politically, economically and in terms of pop culture too.
And it remains as true as ever, that if as a pop star, you want to attain 'legend' status, then you need to crack America. But Kylie's success there been pretty minimal and only her most ardent fans would claim she's on the same level as Elvis, Michael Jackson and Madonna as that's not how the public see her at all.
Steps are still having number one albums but anyone trying to argue that this means they're 'up there with ABBA', would be laughed out of the room.
I LOVE Maggie Gillenhall as an actress and that she spoke of Madonna in such awe and admiration,without the bitter,hurt ego that other celebs had when spoke of her. Madonna is an Icon,like her or not.
I could NOT imagine being MADONNA famous. That’s an entirely different reality to live in.

I don't know how Madonna lives her life. On one hand, she's possibly the most famous woman that has lived for the past 40 years. On the other hand, she's possibly the most infamous woman that has lived for the past 40 years. But finding the middle, the characteristic that made her both incredibly famous and infamous in equal parts was her blunt and forward attitude. I cannot think of any other public figure, male or female, who held such polarizing distinctions in equal measure. Overshadowed by all of this is her incredible songs she's written and produced, her incredible albums that she's released, and the amazing benchmarking and trendsetting videos she's made. I truly believe Madonna should have tons of Grammy awards based on her songwriting and producing alone, but the quality of her work has always been overshadowed by her controversies. And let's not forget how ageism has left her by the wayside, even while writing and producing incredible work (though a bit inconsistent at the same time). I've been a HUGE fan of Madonna's since the first day I heard "Crazy For You" and 'Into The Groove". It will definitely be interesting to see how history remembers her.
The only way to be famous for forty years without dying under a bridge or something like that is precisely by being infamous.
I think she is the 3rd most famous woman of the last 40 years. She is beaten by Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana.
Ageism has not left her by the wayside - she's not making great music anymore and her desperate and embarrassing behaviour on Instagram is turning people away. And that behaviour is desperate and embarrassing for any age.

And now, 2023 Madonna is touring with Celebrate proving that 65 is just a number for the haters. She has amazing legs, is fit and beautiful and singing live. She's saying and I hear her that it's ok to be 65 and feel beautiful, sexy and talented.

I was at the recording and it was even worse than what was shown on TV. She was dissmissive of the others guests and just zoned out whenever the conversation wasn't about her. Also everytime there was break where they played clips or something she had like 6 people walk out to help her with make up and costume.
@@MikeMJPMUNCH you brave soul - tbh to this day it's one of the only episodes of this show I just can't rewatch, which is a shame because all of the other guests were great (Himesh Patel put on one hell of a brave face, bless him)... and then Madonna shows up
@@cosmefulanitoo2625 honestly I think COVID really threw things off-kilter for a while, but things have been looking up for the most part, like for instance there was an episode this year with Kenneth Branagh, Vicky McClure, Rachel Zegler and Rose Matafeo that was hilarious

This was good, except when she seemed like she was sad and stressed out talking about the parenting challenges that are overshadowed by how famous she is. There are likely not many people who have ever had to face the kind of challenges she probably had to go through.
Yeah, I though she looked a little sad and stressed about the older kids too. I remember when she once said the worst thing she ever did was when she gave her older kids phones - they stopped talking to her, totally lost them. Totally agree, Madonna - same thing happened here and I remember those words often.

I'm that generation to who Madonna is and will always be the queen of pop, like Michael Jackson was the king of pop, Elvis was the king of rock n' roll and the greatest band of all time was The Beatles. There are plenty of other legendary and true superstar artists but for me she is one of the very few true icons, indeed a living legend, no matter what she is doing these days.

I like the story of Madonna brushing off the guy who wrote her first hit song. "Madonna this is the man who wrote your very first hit. He has been looking forward to meeting you" to which Madonna replies "Well, now he has" and walks away. Class act.
I don't understand why someone would put that type of an attitude on a pedestal. It's great to be successful, but any collaboration can't be one sided. I myself prefer someone more gracious. I do like her music but when your have an air or haughty attitude that doesn't work. I had a boss talk to me about my attitude at one point in my life. Luckily, i lost the chip on my shoulder.
