Seems strange to say that they're "all-in on hybrids" when they went from offering it as essentially a powertrain upgrade on every trim to restricting it to two of them. I think at this point in time, all-in on hybrids would've been to make the CR-V hybrid-only, like Toyota's starting to do with some of their models.

@@thetechguyz8645 How does this hybrid system work? I see it now has one motor-generator and a separate traction motor, which gains 2hp and 15 lb-ft of torque, but its main issue was, and still is the basic setup of only using the electric motor for propulsion at lower speeds and only the gasoline at higher speeds, and the poor ratio of that gasoline engine output, which seems like it’s not even in overdrive. It’s why it gets nearly the same fuel economy as the 1.5T.

@Alex on Autos You should consider starting a scoring system on rear headroom in vehicles similar to what you do for the driver’s seat. My experience of shopping with a 6’ 1” son is that a lot these vehicles aren’t great. Aren’t more and more Americans taller? The 2022 CRV for example has room directly above your head but the slope down for the sunroof meant he would hit that portion if he leaned forward. Not even safe. The 2023 appears to have lost a bit of headspace yet. Various rear head spaces also intrude more on the side and the additional headroom created by adding panoramic roofs is usually only over half of a person’s head. Lots of different factors that go beyond the specs the manufacturer gives out. It seems to be an overlooked element that manufacturers could use some prodding on.

    • @afcgeo882

The CRV is now the size of a midsize CUV though. At some point, the added size becomes a drawback. Considering they’ve eliminated the LX, the pricing will point to the Edge/Grand Cherokee/Santa Fe class too.
The tow rating is 1,000 on the hybrid and it continues to be a very disappointing system that drives either on electric or gasoline (but never both), that gets poor highway fuel economy and provides low actual power (versus theoretical combined power).

I get it, compromises need to be made when simplifying trims, but I hate that I have to get an efficiency-zapping mechanical AWD system if I want the top trim, which is nonsensical since I'm jumping to that trim specifically for the hybrid engine(no, I don't want the regular "Sport," I prefer every available tech feature in a mid-market CUV). A huge portion of the country has zero use for AWD, so it'd be nice if they didn't mandate an extra cost feature that lowers MPG for a hybrid-only model on the best trim. 🙃 Give us Floridians FWD and save on both gas money and MSRP.
