We found a Ford diesel these older guys were working on they changed injectors and burnt up starter trying to start so it de there for a long time and I told a guy at work so he went by to ask about the truck and there was a brand new for power stroke sitting in drive and he got the old for big time cheap. After work he asked me if I would look at for him and it had a manual trans so I hooked my log chain it and cracked 3 injectors and pulled him down the road and told him if it tries to star to tap brakes and it did tighten injectors lines and pulled about 100 ft and fired right up and we unhooked chain and the guy and his wife standing in yard when drove by and you could tell by the look on their faces they were upset. Bad thing is 3 months latter the interior was burnt bad roof paint all pealed up just lucky no windows were open . The crazy thing was the old man put a cab radio in truck and power wires were run under rubber around door seal and chewed up wire from door opening and closing and there was no fuse to blow so that’s why it burnt .
owned an 03 before my current 13, of course this is just my personal opinion, but it sounds like you might need an injector or two. when my third gen needed em bad it wouldnt start worth a shit, ESPECIALLY in the cold. But a hard warm start could be due to a leaky injector, might be why it didnt change tone much when you killed cylinder 5. Just my two cents is all.
Common rail uses a common rail fuel system on the cummins engine its is a high pressure modern injection system for the fuel for the injectors the pressures can reach in the 20k+ psi ranges. 12v came in the 1st gen and second gen trucks till 1998 in 1998.5 it went to the 24v engines with the vp44 injection pump till 02 then 03 started common rail The 3rd gen means that it is the 3rd generation of dodge trucks to come with a cummins engine in them. It goes like this 1st gen was the 1989 to 1993 trucks then the 2nd gens was from 1994 to 2002 and then 3rd gen is 2003 to 2008 and then 4th gen is 2009 to 2018 or 19

I need to know because I’m in the 3rd gen market, what’s a cheap non running 3rd vs a high mileage running 3rd gen?
What can you expect to spend one vs the other? Prices are everywhere.
20-30 good runner no matter the miles. Not running cut it in half or more
Here in Oklahoma Texas area you can get a decent third gen from anywhere from 10 to 20 the immaculate trucks around here people ask 25 plus for the clapped out ones around 8k
Im dying to know what you payed 😂, i just bought a 08 6.7 with 160k miles. And DPF problems got a good deal! Ordered my parts should be up and running better next week!!
There's just something about a crew cab long bed srw 3rd gen. I don't know why these trucks keep attracting me 😅
I had a 06 crew long bed manual 4x4 and to this day i regret not fixing that truck
Nice score!
We ran atf in our Detroits once in awhile .
😂 ya when my trucks starter goes out usually I just park it and buy a new one right
True. Ended up needing injectors. Glad it had a new bed on it or the deal would have been bad
Rev it up and see if the motor slows down wired .
honks when door is open when in gear my buddys 05 does that
Marvel mystery oil wont hurt either have ran it for years any amount you feel like really in any rig
We need more of you in CA
Hahaha this is awesome, I’m from MA and this truck has all the rot and stuff that would be typical of my area. You will now feel our pain!!! Great to see you continue to pick up fun projects
That rot is nothing compared to some of the rigs on farms in mass.
@@swamp-yankee I can agree with that, I’m in western MA and see plenty of it
We found a Ford diesel these older guys were working on they changed injectors and burnt up starter trying to start so it de there for a long time and I told a guy at work so he went by to ask about the truck and there was a brand new for power stroke sitting in drive and he got the old for big time cheap. The crazy thing was the old man put a cab radio in truck and power wires were run under rubber around door seal and chewed up wire from door opening and closing and there was no fuse to blow so that’s why it burnt .
wonder if its honking as a backup beep lol
owned an 03 before my current 13, of course this is just my personal opinion, but it sounds like you might need an injector or two. when my third gen needed em bad it wouldnt start worth a shit, ESPECIALLY in the cold. But a hard warm start could be due to a leaky injector, might be why it didnt change tone much when you killed cylinder 5. Just my two cents is all.
Definitely. But all the injectors felt the same the second round of cut offs
@@VBELTandSON fair enough, definitely easier to tell in person obviously
You should add a water tank and make it a dedicated ranch fire truck.
Very new to the diesel lingo. What are common rail and 3rd gen. is it a 12v or 24 v? Either way, really enjoyed your video.
Common rail uses a common rail fuel system on the cummins engine its is a high pressure modern injection system for the fuel for the injectors the pressures can reach in the 20k+ psi ranges. 12v came in the 1st gen and second gen trucks till 1998 in 1998.5 it went to the 24v engines with the vp44 injection pump till 02 then 03 started common rail
The 3rd gen means that it is the 3rd generation of dodge trucks to come with a cummins engine in them. It goes like this 1st gen was the 1989 to 1993 trucks then the 2nd gens was from 1994 to 2002 and then 3rd gen is 2003 to 2008 and then 4th gen is 2009 to 2018 or 19
I like that one Sam. Will be looking for one like it next year.
I See 2018's with more rust than that here in OHIO! Its sad... I got spoiled living in NC, Ca, Az, and FL for 25 yrs....
Hopefully that lucas will take care of the injectors can't wait to see some more
Needs the arch oil treatment it's wicked stuff
Awesome video bud. Nice to see ya flip a 3rd gen 👍
