Hey guys! I know this video lacks a little bit of context but it was still fun to watch and react to Hinata and see some of the improvements he’s made! Don’t worry I’m continuing my own Haikyu journey here in Russia! 😀
You should watch the whole series in able to fully understand some scenes that are somewhat confusing for you. Anyways its always great content and comments by you. Good luck on your ongoing league!🙏💯
The part where he says “I’m about to cry” they we’re rushing offense and exhausting themselves more so when Hinata hit the highball on the receive everyone stopped and breathed and that’s what the coach wanted in the first place.
The scene where he said “gimme the next one too” was a big deal because Kageyama just messed up the set but Hinata managed to save it with his foot. Kageyama turned to him and expected him to complain but Hinata knew that Kageyama tried his best and just made a mistake on a difficult set so he basically said “As long as you give every set your all I am happy and give the next one to me!” The setter on the other team was moved because his passion for setting is as intense as Kageyama’s and this leads the setter to be frustrated when his teammates are not as passionate as he is. So seeing Hinata not only being as passionate as Kageyama but also recognizing and appreciating Kageyama’s passion moved the setter.
9:38 the reason everyone was shocked was because it was the match point at that moment and Hinatas team (karasuno) tried to rush getting the point. The coach tried yelling at them to slow down and take their time but they were so caught up in rushing and finishing the point that everyone couldn’t hear the coach. So when hinata received it and sent it up high it gave everyone time to breathe, relax, and do things the way they usually do. I think the moral of the moment is to not rush things because it can end badly.
You kinda watched it without context that's the reason why some of the scenes got you confused. If you know what's going on before the actual scenes you'd get goosebumps every single time! lol
Yeah it's really hard to understand most of these clips without knowing the context of why they're important. The worst here is the clip of Hinata bumping the ball up really high. The scene right before that is actually really stunning. It's towards the end of the game, and Karasuno starts rushing. Their coach is yelling at them to slow down, but they're not listening. The way the scene is animated, and with the music, really illustrates the strangling feeling of going too fast to the point of making mistakes. Til Hinata slows everything down with his high bump, giving them all a moment to breathe and kind of reset. And Suga tearing up at Hinata's growth. It's a cool moment.
The “let’s take it easy” moment was because the team was starting to rush everything so Hinata received the ball really high so they could reset and just take a breath
For context on the take it easy scene all of karasuno were rushing and out of breath and weren't really thinking by sending it high hinata gave his team a chance to breath and to think again which shows how his thought process has changed and how he had changed since the beginning
9:39 Hinata makes a high pass to slow down the speed of play because Karasuno was speeding up and losing their composure. It was surprising to everyone for Hinata to make an intelligent play. Also Kageyama was upset over a bad set he made that Hinata wasn't bothered by at 8:07
Season 4 spoiler explanation (for a scene that Erik was confused about): The scene at 9:37 is a powerful scene because they are in the final point at nationals, versus one of the best teams in all of Japan. Each player on the court is saying "Faster, we have to go faster!" because they think speed will be the key to winning the match. The coach on the sideline of that scene is SCREAMING at the team telling them to slow down, because although speed is a powerful weapon, they're strangling themselves. Hinata puts the ball up high, which forces the team to breathe and slow down. That's why Suga says he thinks he's going to cry - because Hinata has gone from knowing nothing about volleyball, to in just months making several plays that saved the team and ultimately won them the match. Haikyuu really is an amazing show, and all of season 4 especially really stepped up the game. Please watch Haikyuu in your free time if it sounds interesting to you at all. You won't regret it!
Some more context on Hinata: When he was in middle school there was no real volleyball team, so he basically practiced by himself or with anyone he could convince. So when he got into highschool he basically didn't know the proper basics, he sucked at everything, but he has brutal jumps and reflexes so he matched well with Kageyama whose serves were wast of and nobody wanted or could spike them. During the series he becomes a better spiker, but what's important about many of these clips is that he's finally making progress in defense
at around 9:40 mark it was because they were playing at a faster pace and nobody was slowing down so he made sure the ball went high into the hair so his teammates can slow down/relax and take it easy in my opinion season 4 was the best especially seeing Hinata grow being a ball boy lol
The scene where the ball was up for a long time and everyone was surprised was because Hinata learned that in fast paced situations if you give the ball a lot of hangtime it gives your team time to breath and be able to make the right play.
definitely watch season 4. The match against Inarizaki is one of the best pieces of television I have watched in a long time. The final moments of the match are particularly well written, animated, and acted. It really is a wonderful show.
When the coach says take it easy. because the entire team was rushing the plays they were not breathing. thats why hinata took the ball high so that everyone resets mentally. then the entirea team realize that . Videos are not full context. Q.Q
The parts where you were confused on what happened was when Hinata crashed a training camp that was only meant for students who were invited to be there because they were good. He begged that he’d be a ball boy or anything so that he could stay, but then he felt like he was wasting a bunch of his time (when he shoved his head between the white mats). Also, that’s why he was apologizing in one part was because he crashed that training camp without anyone knowing and they called the school and told them he was there so he got chewed out by the captain, the coach, and assistant coach. A lot of the things that surprised his teammates, made them cry, or go absolutely nuts with excitement were things that Hinata learned during the training camp that he crashed. He couldn’t play but he took the chance to read body language and understand what an opponent could do in different situations such as a bad toss or short approach to a spike and so on because the only thing he could do there was watch.
So to here's some general context for these scenes. So at first in the season Kageyama and Tsukki both got invited to training camps (Kageyama's was for the national team and Tsukki's was for the prefecture) and Hinata was jealous. So he snuck into the camp Tsukki was at and because he wasn't supposed to be there but beggged to stay he was made a ball boy. When he told coach Ukai (the blonde with spiky hair) he told Hinata don't underestimate being a ball boy. Catching all those balls really helped Hinata work on timing and positioning. That's why he was chesting and then got the one ball with his foot in that one game because his body was now able to react to those balls but he hadn't gotten the timing and positioning of his platform right. However as the season goes on you see he gets better at that. Also in that scene where Suga was about to cry, from what I remember Karasuno had been really picking up the pace in the game cause they felt very pressured and as a result their plays were not going well. Hinata having that nice receive with some nice hang time helped everyone slow down and kind of get it together.
the take it easy scene kageyama and the other setter kept increasing the tempo and it was sufficating kageyama's field of vision so he kept giving it to the same person. So hinata hit the ball really high on his recieve to give him time to think.
the reason why sugawara was about to cry and everyone was surprised is because they are getting overwhelmed by speed and they dont have enough time to think, that's why it sair "take it easy" hinata made the receive high and stead so that they can breathe for at least a little amount of time
For reference, kageyama was not saying that hinata jumps higher than hoshiumi, but rather that hinata had further latent ability to jump higher, after seeing hoshiumi do it
The blockers didn't jump because they can't react to minus tempo being that by the time the setter is jumping to set hinata is already in the air ready to attack making kageyama have to set an extremely precise and fast pass to hinata
So when he hit the ball and it went super high and the coach commented “ yah. let’s take it easy” was because the game was super fast paced and all of the people on the court were thinking “I have to be faster” “get to the net faster” and apparently when the game gets super fast paced and the ball doesn’t travel up much, it’s harder for players to react, relax and breathe, harder to move? (Idk I’m not a volleyball player but I did watch that episode) the coach tried to remind everyone to slow down but everyone was super in their own head trying to keep up with the pace. So hinata’s super high up got everyone to realize and breathe.
Although I’ve seen all of Ericks reaction videos and enjoyed them up so far. I have to say seeing a Hinata highlight without understanding the context has made me sad , specifically knowing the amount of effort and character development Hinata has had. I have to say that the moment Hinata digged the ball against inarizaki made me feel like I was watching a historical sportive moment. Erick if or when you can please watch the series (you don’t need to do a video about it) I am in japan and know for a fact that the series has made a huge change in the volleyball community. Thanks for the video
The context to the 2nd to the last scene (where they say "Let's take it easy" and Sugawara starts crying) is that in that moment Karasuno was caught up in Inarizaki's pace, and the coach desperately wanted them to slow down and take their time before they sped up too much and made a mistake. Hinata's receive was perfect for this, as he received the ball well and sent it straight up, giving it some hang time for Karasuno to set up their synchro-attack and get in their own groove rather than being caught in Inarizaki's pace. @Erik Shoji
The scenes are a little less emotional out of context of the entire story, but we can't hold that against you for not knowing haha xD We're nearing the last few matches of the entire story so this season was a lot about how far the players (Hinata) have come since they formed their team in season 1. Thank you for taking the time to react to Haikyuu!
there're a lot of clips that don't have the same impact or are just confusing if you haven't seen the anime sadly. I'd totally recomend you to watch it if you have the time and the interest of it tho, it's a very good anime. Also the tempo thing is the way the anime explained the timing of the plays. Minus tempo specifically means that when the setter touches the ball to set, the spiker is already in the air and ready to hit the ball, making a super fast play.
I would recommend watching the series, but if you don't want to I'd say "karasuno team bonding - best moments" is really funny, and you might relate to some of it idk :D
In Haikyuu there are 4 tempos, 3 of which are possible in real life. 3rd tempo is where the spiker watches for the ball before he does the run-up. 2nd tempo is where you do your approach when the ball is in the setter hands. 1st tempo is where basically a quick attack. Minus tempo is where you are at the peak of the spike and the ball comes to your hands perfectly.
9:00 that was the minus tempo you were asking about, its where the spiker or the hitter is already at the peak of ite jump and then the setter will make a pinpoint set
Damn, you need so much more context to fully enjoy what's happening throughout these clips and the season as a whole. Hinata has become better at reading the game, because of the training camp he snuck in to be a part of. But he was only allowed to act as a ball boy, so while he learned to read plays and trajectory to be a good ball boy, he didn't develop muscle memory and skills to receive said balls in a match situation, hence why he's chesting the balls and slow at closing his arms when the ball hits his foot. Haikyuu is amazing, and you should look forward to the next season because it's gonna get wild.
The part where they were about to cry has clips that were cut too much, that it does not make sense.. It is a long rally with fast plays going on , and as a trade off you will be exhausted.. They were about to cry because Hinata was able to feel his teammates were strugling and can't think wisely.. So he receives the ball high to give his teammates some time to catch their breath and relax. I play doubles badminton,so I can relate on this , it is such a fast paced exhausting sports,so I am really at ease when I have a partner who knows when to strategically do a clear shot when he sees I struggle and needs to catch my breath for the next move.
really? i like the struggle... i don't play professional but i do prefer singles. it can get exhausting if you go too fast too long, i know, but that struggle and that speeding up the pace help me cause it helps me forget about what i look like or if others are watching, it helps me focus only on the game. especially when it is singles as it all rides on me, with no backup, and failing when you're alone is awful in its own right, cause it's hard accepting everything is your fault (helps me ease thinking badly about my mistakes so i can think how to improve afterwards). if that makes sense
Context, what context? Lol some of these moments just cut in at the weirdest moments. The moment when the ball was up in the air was a moment for example where the entire team was rushing and pushing the play rather then slowing down, thinking and working to their best. The receive and the ball floating in the air up higher then normal gave them time to reset.
The cut was a little early in the high receive so the context was left out. The pace was a too fast and the team was about to lose their breath so the coach was shouting to slow it down, thats when hinata made the high ball to give the team a lil breather and compose themselves.
Erik! Congrats on 40K. I found you through your reaction videos to Haikyu!! and to get the reason why the last two clips are so amazing and worth it, you need to watch episode 24 from season 4, titled “Monster’s Ball”. The build-up to those two moments are some of the most emotional moments of the entire series!
The one where you were confused because everything was calm, it's because the rally was going really fast and there were a lot of low passes, and frankly everyone was stressed out. They were given a free ball (I believe) and hinata gave a nice, high pass to kageyama, which slowed down the rally and put in more control
Let's take it easy because the team was focusing so hard on speed they were becoming narrow minded and desperate. Hinata did a super high first touch to let them breathe again and get back on their feet in the middle of a tough rally. Still watch the series though.
I know you one of the best players in the world and all, but you can't just be watching random clips of this GOATed show without having seen the entire series.
Glad you enjoyed it Erik! Congrats on the win and the 40K. You can always watch the full show when you feel like it; not all of us expect you to prioritise an anime over actual volleyball. You’re doing great actually playing champion volleyball at the national level; we really appreciate you making this video for us while we all sit at home watching anime and anime reactions hahahaha
sugawara was about to cry because hinata slowed down the game because they were focusing on speed which meant that they were strangling themselves slowly, aka getting tunnel vision/working themselves into the ground. A nice high receive to slow the game down giving your teammates time to breathe.
Hey Erik! Enjoyed this video, but sorry to say, you really need to watch the entire show to get the meaning of those scenes! If you do, you'll feel so emotional watching them. Don't wanna spoil anything for you
You really should just watch the episodes! We don't need a reaction for the episodes, but there's a lot, A LOT that you're missing with just these highlight videos. You'll be able to enjoy the highlights more.
the second last clip was how they were losing points and then they got very rushed and tried to make score anyhow, a long bout went on where they kept trying to score and the enemies picking it up and enemy trying and so on. hinata just made a single pass by launch the ball very high in the air so the team can take the time to properly take a breather and wait for for the ball to come while htey can relax and get out of rushing mindset and think practically
ayy i was just watching your videos! :D btw 1:21 minus tempo is what they call hinata and kageyama's demon quick attack because apparently hinata already jumps to position in the air before the setter tosses the ball (i dont know any volleyball i just quote this from the anime btw teehee)
In the US we just call it a quick. We use numbers to designate the type of attack and where the set is going. A quick to the outside hitter is called a 'shoot' or 4 depending on how high the arc of the set is. A quick to the middle blocker is called a 1 if it is in front of the setter, or a 'back 1' if it's behind the setter. A quick to the back row is called a bick (back row quick). The opposite hitter generally doesn't get quick sets, but the setter could do what's called a 'slide' which is a backset quick to area 2, generally to the middle blocker who drifts across the net to that area from area 3.
@@hariseldon6668 it’s not just in the US but I was just explaining what a minus tempo is it’s different from a quick it’s a super quick attack it’s supposed to be so fast a blocker can’t react a first tempo is the normal quick attack I only said this cause Erik didn’t know what a minus tempo was
@@beasteaglegamerpocketversi2003 I'm having trouble translating what you're saying into practical volleyball speech. Actual players like Erik and I don't understand that lingo. Some quick attacks are faster than others, but by-and-large they are within the same speed-range. Calling something "minus tempo" doesn't make any sense when "first tempo" (I'm assuming this is some sort of transliteration of "primo tempo" from Italian volleyball, what we in the US call a "1") is already the quickest possible attack speed for an offense. You're either describing an inhumane and unrealistic speed of attack or what the rest of us would simply call a "1 attack."
@@hariseldon6668 I’m just explaining it to help it make sense because this is an anime and he was curious what a minus tempo was it’s impossible for the minus tempo to be real also tempo refers to the speed a 1 set is a type of set also I am a volleyball player but I’m just trying to explain it because he hasn’t really seen the actual anime
The part where Hinata received and there was a sub saying, "Let's take it easy", it was because, before that receive, everyone in Karasuno was rushing everything, focusing on speed and forgetting to breathe. Hinata's receive was high enough to "take it easy" and breathe again to set up their next play properly :)
One can nvr get bored watching haikyu... I started most of the game watching these anime... I wasn't much of an individual to play sports but haikyuu along with some soccer and basketball anime made me fan of these games and I am now pretty much good at these games now... Played inter-state soccer championship for my school and went upto regionals in Vollyball as well 😝😝😝
Erik, i recommend you to watch the full series first, coz there's alot cut on the scene, so its harder to understand where you haven't watch the anime first Btw, i personally rated this anime 11/10 So cool and fun to watch
You need to watch the whole season to understand some clips of the video. This video's more enjoyable to watch when you've watched all of the episodes, as it only covers the highlights :)
You asked what is minus tempo. Its when the spiker is already in air before the setter sets the ball. Like at 8:50 you said he is in air too early. That was a minus tempo attack. If I remember correctly Kageyama and Hinata have gone till -2 tempo. The take it easy part is for the set and match point against Inarizaki High in Nationals round 2. The point rally was going on for too long. Everyone on Karasuno, in the heat of the moment, going after the ball to keep up the pressure. The Karasuno coach says to take it slow to get a breather and think about the attack to make it successful. So in that receive Shoyo sent it high in the air to calm everyone's nerves and give that fraction of a time before the attack. Sugawara was emotional seeing Hinata doing that and wanted to cry. He saw the growth and maturity Hinata showed in just the span of few months.
9:43 Because Shoyo told the 2m guy who isn’t really good at volleyball to “take it easy”and lift the ball high to give your teammates more time. Kageyama was really tired at that moment, Shoyo lift it high which creates more time for Kageyama. Guys are crying because Shoyo has improved so much on techniques and the ability of reading the game.
If u didn’t know what the “take it easy” means, if u watched season 4 the last ep they were moving too quick and the coach tried to tell them to ow down but Hinata made a pass that was high and perfect and suge was crying bc Hinata improved so much when he started
The fact is Hinata doesn't know how to serve well and to recieve that's why he serves just normal and do errors in recieving but slowly his learning those basics.
Watching scene compilations with having seen the seasons are fine, but this particular compilation particularly bad for those without the context to understand it. There are, or someone could make compilation videos that show just a bit more context. Like the frantic chaos karasuno was putting themselves under when hinata passed that high ball to give everyone a breather. It also doesn't help that this compilation bounces scenes from early to late to early parts of the series which can make it even more confusing
Hey guys! I know this video lacks a little bit of context but it was still fun to watch and react to Hinata and see some of the improvements he’s made! Don’t worry I’m continuing my own Haikyu journey here in Russia! 😀
It's alright we love all of the videos you put out!
Congrats on 40k aswell
Still a great video Eric!

The part where he says “I’m about to cry” they we’re rushing offense and exhausting themselves more so when Hinata hit the highball on the receive everyone stopped and breathed and that’s what the coach wanted in the first place.
It's also because Hinata is finally finding new ways to become a better player, and everyone on Karasuno are proud of him because of that.
The scene where he said “gimme the next one too” was a big deal because Kageyama just messed up the set but Hinata managed to save it with his foot. He probably isn't an anime man so he might not enjoy anime as much as we do
He is watching it tho, but he hasn’t time to do video editing and Probably he wanted to give a reaction to this anime fast to who’s watching him.
It's sad to see Erik watch Hinata's best moments in s4 without context. Especially the "let's take it easy" moment. That scene hit me very hard.

Hinatas character development in s4 was so insanely beautiful, you just have to watch it
9:55 they were going way to fast and losing focus, so when Hinata recieved the ball high that meant "take it easy, slow down"

I think he's seen season 1 but im not sure
they were crying at hinata's receive because karasuno started rushing and over exerting themselves, so the high set was to calm and slow everyone down
Erik: aww kageyama gave hinata a compliment.
also kageyama: HINATA BOKE!
The only sad thing about reactions is that you won't be as surprised when you see it in the actual episode

Minus tempo is their super quick, HInata jumps before Kageyama gets the ball then sends the set super fast as Hinata is swinging for the spike
there're a lot of clips that don't have the same impact or are just confusing if you haven't seen the anime sadly. I'd totally recomend you to watch it if you have the time and the interest of it tho, it's a very good anime.
Also the tempo thing is the way the anime explained the timing of the plays. Minus tempo specifically means that when the setter touches the ball to set, the spiker is already in the air and ready to hit the ball, making a super fast play.
haha watching you be confused cuz you don’t have context is amazing. i do recommend going back and watching the show tho lol
Eric please watch the series.
I don't want you to get spoiled like this 😭
I would recommend watching the series, but if you don't want to I'd say "karasuno team bonding - best moments" is really funny, and you might relate to some of it idk :D
Erik is so confused. 😂
Let's hope this community grows more! Love your plays Erik! You and nishinoya are great inspirations to play volleyball 🏐
9:00 that was the minus tempo you were asking about, its where the spiker or the hitter is already at the peak of ite jump and then the setter will make a pinpoint set
I've watched the final rally of season 4 well over 100 times. That one and the season 2 rally against Aoba Jousai are my favorites.
I dont have anything to say other than thanking again for being there but gotta like and comment for the algorithm.
that complitation sucked because there was no context... it went back and forth a lot so no wonder you didn't understand most of it
Its a pity all the moments in the video lack context. Without It most plays feel plain.
Minus tempo is basically when Hinata jumps before a set
Context, what context?
Lol some of these moments just cut in at the weirdest moments. The moment when the ball was up in the air was a moment for example where the entire team was rushing and pushing the play rather then slowing down, thinking and working to their best. The receive and the ball floating in the air up higher then normal gave them time to reset.
"minus tempo? What's a minus tempo?" this si why we keep telling you you need context lol
*mentions how tall Russians are
Me: Wheres Lev when you need him.
Let's take it easy because the team was focusing so hard on speed they were becoming narrow minded and desperate. Hinata did a super high first touch to let them breathe again and get back on their feet in the middle of a tough rally. Still watch the series though.
I know you one of the best players in the world and all, but you can't just be watching random clips of this GOATed show without having seen the entire series.
amen! He needs context! Gotta watch the whole thing. episode by episode reactions baby
Oh yes! Thank you this is wonderful 🥰
Congrats on the 40k subs!
the second last clip was how they were losing points and then they got very rushed and tried to make score anyhow, a long bout went on where they kept trying to score and the enemies picking it up and enemy trying and so on. hinata just made a single pass by launch the ball very high in the air so the team can take the time to properly take a breather and wait for for the ball to come while htey can relax and get out of rushing mindset and think practically
Season 5 would be amazing
Bro, I like your content very much. Best regards from Indonesia!
I mean, if you didn't watch the season you are going to be missing on so much context.
This makes a lot lot lot more sense in context
ayy i was just watching your videos! :D btw 1:21 minus tempo is what they call hinata and kageyama's demon quick attack because apparently hinata already jumps to position in the air before the setter tosses the ball (i dont know any volleyball i just quote this from the anime btw teehee)
I love your videos I fell in love with volleyball because of your videos
Erik, those subscribers are well earned! Love your reactions and the best thing is that you seem like a very sweet, nice and funny guy!!
Erik a minus tempo is faster than a 1st tempo because the spiker is there before the ball is even at the setter
@@hariseldon6668 also sorry cause I can be a bit scatter brained when explaining things
I loved this season and this was a pretty great video👏👏👏👍👍😎🔥👑
The part where Hinata received and there was a sub saying, "Let's take it easy", it was because, before that receive, everyone in Karasuno was rushing everything, focusing on speed and forgetting to breathe. Hinata's receive was high enough to "take it easy" and breathe again to set up their next play properly :)
One can nvr get bored watching haikyu... I started most of the game watching these anime... I wasn't much of an individual to play sports but haikyuu along with some soccer and basketball anime made me fan of these games and I am now pretty much good at these games now... Played inter-state soccer championship for my school and went upto regionals in Vollyball as well 😝😝😝
Erik, i recommend you to watch the full series first, coz there's alot cut on the scene, so its harder to understand where you haven't watch the anime first
Btw, i personally rated this anime 11/10
So cool and fun to watch
It's actually a very wholesome anime and I love that
Well that and the editor didnt put it in order he put a clip from the match then a clip from some other scene so that was super weird
@@kartikkapoor6503 exactly
You need to watch the whole season to understand some clips of the video. This video's more enjoyable to watch when you've watched all of the episodes, as it only covers the highlights :)
Yes regular uploads 😁❤️❤️
Lol... this “best moments” compilation is so horrible, there’s no context to anything. No wonder Eric’s so confused
Loved this video. Your reactions are all awesome man and your normal videos too. Subbed it up you deserve it
Yey! Congrats on 40k👏🏻 now let’s do volleyball review😊
Omg I’m so glad you finally did this 🥲
Omg finally this season is so sick
“The fake has become a really popular play these days” hMMmMmm i WonDer WhY?
9:43 Because Shoyo told the 2m guy who isn’t really good at volleyball to “take it easy”and lift the ball high to give your teammates more time. Kageyama was really tired at that moment, Shoyo lift it high which creates more time for Kageyama. Guys are crying because Shoyo has improved so much on techniques and the ability of reading the game.
Crongratulations🎉 I love watch yours videos (especially when talking about haikyuu :) )
Its funny how confused Erik is while watching these compilations
Watching scene compilations with having seen the seasons are fine, but this particular compilation particularly bad for those without the context to understand it.
There are, or someone could make compilation videos that show just a bit more context. Like the frantic chaos karasuno was putting themselves under when hinata passed that high ball to give everyone a breather.
It also doesn't help that this compilation bounces scenes from early to late to early parts of the series which can make it even more confusing
