    I bought a thermometer "gun" that just displays the temperature on the one spot it is aimed at. With patience and the right strategy it can do the job in a pinch haha.

    I bought an infiray p2 pro. It took video and photos. after around 6 months it no longer records video. I emailed infiray and they never have replied. I can now only take still images. I wont buy infiray again.

      Is it one of those thermal cameras that you connect to your phone? I don't like those either.

      @makersfunduck yes. I bought it as it's small and easy to use on an extension in case I needed it to go inside equipment etc or round corners of I was working on a car. And my other thought was some very very thin wire to make a 30ft cable so I could hang it off my drone for overhead roof inspection but I never did try that

      I haven't tried, but it seems there's a 3rd-party (paid) s/w with a lot of good features from a German company that (also) supports the p2pro. You can also "just" use your PC-USB-webcam (windows) tool to record greyscale video from the camera, albeit without scale.
      It may well be that $220 for the P2Pro and ~50ish for the s/w may be a worthwhile spent $270, considering the end-result. The "default" s/w from infiray is also pretty "intrusive" (requires access to location, media, ...) The German PC S/W, on the other hand, seems to be GDPR-friendly. They have a 1-month free "try before you buy" option, afaik.

      @AdityaMehendale thanks for that info, will no doubt let me see if I have the same problem on the pc, if so it's the camera... Thing is it looks like a software issue as the photos are fine, and the on-screen preview/liveview while recording are fine, it's just 'corrupt' on the saved recording. My current workaround is screen recorder software and screen recording the preview but that's messy. Topdon software finds it but doesn't show any image just black, unless I select calibrate (which I think they use to hide hot/cold pixels) and then it gives a perfect live feed .... So I think topdon have modified there software to deliberately not work with a competitors product.

    Thank you for making this video. Well Done. How close can you get up to items using the Thermal Camera? Will it work close up on small parts?

      This model has a fixed focus and a 256x192 resolution, so don't expect high-resolution pictures or videos. While I don't know the theoretical distance, it works well from a 5 cm range. In the video, I even identified a fault on a SOT-23 part and I'm confident it can detect even smaller components. The most important aspect is having a temperature difference (delta) for the camera to detect it effectively.

    i bought the cheapest usb thermel camera on the market (tb-4117) for $40, its def worth the price, its resolution is not the best, but way better then these standalone unit, plus you can use your pc and phone with it its so good for the price, it speed up the time repair take greatly by easily find the short

    It's not "basically the same" - it's *worse* in an important aspect - US export-laws force US-based manufacturers to firmware-cripple their sensors to 9Hz refresh-rate.
    That being said, please don't put magnets in packaging - more needless waste for 0.5 second of gratification. Send a freebie fidget-toy instead.

      I wasn't aware that export controls applied to thermal cameras too. Seems like they don't want us to enjoy our tools!
      To extend my moment of gratification, I often re-use packaging that I liked for storage. So far, I've already experienced 2 full seconds of it! 😄

    what about the bettery? rechargeable lithium batteries are pretty much a consumable and when buyig an rather expensive device for a hobby you want it to be usable for quite a while and not throw away just because the battery cells died and not replaceable/some weird form factor you cannot get your hands on

    • @makersfunduck
      @makersfunduck  3 дня назад +2

      In this model, the battery is replaceable and uses a standard 18650 Li-ion battery cell.

    You keep saying Terminal camera instead of Thermal camera 😅

      😅 After listening to it again, it really does sound like "terminal camera." Even the auto-generated subtitles picked it up that way! 😄
