I use mine daily (integrated infiRay module in my phone and love it) finding brake faults, overheating cable connections, defective modules pulling power, diagnosing AC pumps and PTC heaters for both ICE and EV cars, finding bad 12v battery cells when charging (one hot cell =dead or dying battery) checking heated mirrors and rear defrosters and seats, checking catalytic converters if they are hotter on the exhaust side like they should be, and much more private in my house and outside 😅 Also seeing if the tire pressure is wrong
Thanks for this great Video Darren , everyone needs to get their finger on the 'Pulse' and up their Game with great tools like these that you have showcased. being able to see the 'unseen' is the most valuable asset that we can embrace. keep up the great work.
@@MechanicMindset Absolutely, we all need to keep up the pace with innovative technology, mastering modern vehicles problems requires the best of whats available, Cost was prohibitive previously, but now affordable, my Mantra is ; ' For quality work, the right tools are NOT expensive but priceless'. 🙂 👍
I used it for wheel alignment before, where the bearing had a fault and I let the customer drive the vehicle and you can see where it was making more contact. Another is for bearing fault. More friction, more heat
Absolutely love thermal imaging, are they expensive yes but take consideration of labour time looking for faults, not just electronic but for failed pulleys, wiper linkage pivot points brakes... Had one the other day with a misfire and could see the different temps on the pencil coil packs, the list is endless such a powerful tool and a time saver 👌
Great video Darren. I bought a so called rugged mobile phone with an inbuilt FLIR thermal camera a few years ago which turned out to be the perfect choice for me as a mobile mechanic. I needed a mobile phone at the same time I bought it so buying that phone proved to be much cheaper than buying the camera and the mobile separately. Now this phone has been replaced with several never models so the price has dropped considerably. If you buy it now it will be almost like buying a thermal camera with a free mobile smart phone (4G Android 10).
@@HelgiThorisson Ah awesome, I saw them a while back, right after I bought the Seek Pro for iPhone (and yes, it was about the same price 😵). Is it the Caterpillar phone? I think it does a good overlay with the normal camera too?
@@MechanicMindset No, it is Ulefone Armor 9 and it has a great Samsung camera too. I bought it with an endoscope and a body cam that has night vision. The accessories have proven to be well worth the money spent. The endoscope is much better than some others that I have seen. Regarding the night vison body cam you can position the phone in front of your eyes and the camera pointed at what you want to see and you can continue working during a blackout for that matter.
You can diagnose MISFIRE, if letting circumstances and exhausts pipes, CATALYTIC CONVERTER restrictions, also VOLTAGE DROPS on positive or negative side, bad connection get hot, probably GLOVE PLUGS, bad COMPONENTS on electronic board...and so on.
I wonder if a lazer pointer would help visually for your viewer's and if it would show up on screen? Awesome video. I never would have thought about the air leaks around the windows and using infrared to check it, that was genius mate👍
Yet another advertisement for a tool that is hardly getting used. Yes there are exceptions and yes I have used mine but it was a dead investment in my opinion.
FlirOne for iPhone was $200usd when I bought mine shortly after its release. Hardly what I’d call an expensive tool for the multitude of diagnostics in can perform.
That's a must have tool, and would really come in handy when working on an overheating cooling system, clogged radiators, thermostat etc
@@NigelTMaliseni-bz1uq Ah for sure; there are so many creative uses for this tool 👍
Excellent tool for checking brakes on HGV trailers or wheel bearings or even air leaks in the pneumatics lines or fittings
@@niallcosgrove5596 Smart tests there 👌
Does the air leak show up as warmer or cooler than the surrounding area? I work with air brakes a lot and won’t give this a try.
@@ronunderwood5771 It depends if the air escaping is hotter or colder than the surrounding area 👍

Good info thanks. I had ordered a device for use on commercial AC but now I'll mess about with wiring too.
