The point about Starks/Hobbs being better off if Cody was still there was poignant. I don’t know if either of those guys are even in AEW if not for him.
@@kazman_6899 the issue isn't that there are too many factions. The issue is that the booking in Western promotions has never and will never be geared towards that kind of roster style. If AEW had like 4-5 established and marketable factions each with like 8-10 members it can work fine. It's worked for New Japan now for decades. The west just doesn't really understand or get the nuances and way of booking for it. They think just having a bunch of groups with like 3-5 guys and then constantly changing the members and breaking up and putting them back together will work.
I personally witnessed Q.T. Marshall whip out a springboard Pelé kick (which I'd never before or since, seen ANYBODY else do), earlier, this year, on an NJPW show, eliciting a "THAT WAS COOL" chant from the crowd, who was mere seconds before trying to BOO him out of the venue. "[HE] alright!"
They should have never left Impact. They were red hot and in the discussion for being one of the best tag teams in the world with potential dream matches out the ass. . . . Now look at them.
I’m listening to this segment of the podcast as I have not laughed this much in a long ass time. I wish Cornette and Last would review the AEW women’s and ROH rosters on the Experience.
Love JC but naaaa lol The only women I know he would keep are Toni Storm, Tay Conti and Thunder Rosa only because I've heard him praise her before. We dont need a roster full of Charlotte and Lacey Evans clones
The Parker Boudreax part when he sounds out "who the F***..." is hilarious! Simple but one of my favorite clips I have heard here. I kept rewinding it. 🤣🤣🤣
Spears has or had a wrestling school, seems like he could be a solid midcard gatekeeper guy while doubling as a coach agent. His NXT height was still prettymid-cardish and they prettymuch just killed his momentum to feed him to Bobby Roode before Roode went on to the title picture (which didn't seem to really benefit either one, Roode already had enough natural hype) Butcher, Blade and Anjelico all had pretty unique in ring styles and even personalities. But they have basically just blown them completely as job guys (even before the trainwreck that was the Hardy Andrade Family Office and Variety Hour and Travellling Medicine show that ended for no reason because OMG we have both Hardy Boys now.... and see how that went)
Just sucks he’s been done dirty pretty much everywhere he’s went. He gets over then whatever company he’s working for uses him as a jobber to the main eventers.
Regal is a must have in any role. Commentary, scout, trainer, on screen authority....what would give me pause is there's a lot of people on that Roster like Adam Page that won't use Regal as a resource. There's a contingent in that locker room that would go yeah, he doesn't know what we do. How we do it, we did this with out him so listen to us. The other thing is Regal is a true professional and one wouldn't believe he'd be on the phone calling HHH going hey get this guy, get that guy...actively sabotaging AEW and Tony Kahn...but he is close and friends with HHH and shares HHH vision on what wrestling in 2022 should be. It's not inconceivable that guys underused in AEW that have actual WRESTLING TALENT make their way over to the wwf because Regal well tell them...look Tony likes X you do Y or Z. Learn to do X or move on. By the way HHH likes Y and Z so walk across the street and show him you can do Y and X.
I'd give Regal permission to stretch the fuck out of anyone that wouldn't at least give him the courtesy of listening to what he had to say. Can't force them to take his advice, but give the guy his due respect and listen.
@@zlinedavid 10 years ago that would work, Regal has been looking really old the last few times he's been on television and he's talked about his health issues. I think he's probably still able handle himself if need be but I don't think he could go out and beat anyone.
Butcher and Blade with the Bunny were one of my favorite teams on the show when I used to watch, especially kinda liked Butcher as he had size and a unique look, but the fact that they are booked like jobbers and lose all the time wouldn't do them any favors if I was in charge of budgeting a roster with guys I would keep or let go. If Big Show wanted to do anything physical, I'd use him as a manager of some kind. Put him with a smaller heel you want to get over and when the heel is getting his ass whooped so bad in the match, Big Show interferes and knocks the guy out or chokeslams him and gives the heel the win. He'd be funny with promos because if there was an authority figure on the show and you got Big Show in a suit speaking for his client and he just stares a hole and says "you got a problem with something?!" It could be way better than the goofy "Big Money" Matt Hardy angle they were doing, especially if Big Show's representative wins

Hobbs should be in the world title picture. I’m not saying have MJF drop it to him within a month of Full Gear, but Hobbs is too big, and that spine buster looks too devastating to be on rampage. One of the sad things is that AEW is making people even more terrible than they have to be. Luchasaurus as Vibora was a monster heel who was doing slow menacing work and power moves he would be Cornettes dream and here you have these jokesters making him do flips and stupid shit. Hell Cage with proper booking and opponents that elevated him was made to look a star. Really the roster in AEW is bloated at best, it sucks that time is taken off from people like Starks and Hobbs.
Brian Cage is Brian Cage's problem. He looks like his body was chiseled out of granite, but the only problem is his brain was also. He couldn't stand to have a series of 90 second matches in which he just destroyed people. He couldn't be Mr. "Get My Shit In" then.
I think Shawn Spears is really talented. He did a promo when he was in the pinnacle and has a really good Jake Roberts esqe delivery and he's good in the ring
I've actually liked Shawn Spears. I liked the mohawk, he looked much bigger than he really is due to how small almost everyone else is on that damn roster! But as soon as he botched that chair shot to Cody Rhodes they jobbed him out and made him look like a twat. Shame really.
I4VE never understood the deal with Shawn Spears. He's the most generic wrestler ever, basic look, basic name, basic promos, basic moves. There is literally nothing special about him.

Ortiz has been seen since his head was shaved after the match with Jericho. He'd been teaming with Ruby Soho in a Mixed-Tag Team situation until Tay Melo broke Ruby's nose during an All Out pre-show match that had Ortiz/Ruby Soho Vs. Sammy Guevara/Tay Melo. Since that time he's been teaming with Eddie Kingston mostly on AEW Dark and AEW Dark Elevation.
AEW advertised next week's Dynamite saying Chris Jericho will face a mystery former ROH champion opponent. 1) Most of the guys Jericho is facing are unknown to most of us anyway 2) 70% of the matches on Dynamite are random anyway
I'm surprised Last sees more potential in Butcher than Blade. In truth there were a lot of things that could have been done with that tag team, between Blade's Greek heritage and Butcher's music career, but in typical AEW fashion, they chose to turn them into jokes. To their credit, it looked like Eddie Kingston was trying to turn that around but I guess it was too little too late.
Main event guys in AEW: Moxley?, Danielson, MJF. Main event guys in WWE: Roman, Drew, Seth, Bray, Kross, Gunther?, Zayn?, Owens, Balor, Sheamus?, Cody...I might have missed someone, but the lists don't compare.
Yeah, you have no idea what you're doing. Who'd you bring in? Other than Tessa, I can't think of many others. AEW has an insanely good roster... which is being diluted by its size.
@@kazman_6899 There's 3-4 that are actually worth breathable oxygen. 75 percent of this promotion's roster is pure garbage and don't draw a dime and if we are being honest, most of them never will. Most of them don't belong in the business and the few that have potential are being booked like shit and are getting guidance from Jericho or someone out of the young bucks camp. When you take it in as a whole, this roster is an indictment against Tony of signing outlaw jokes and booking the real talent like shit if he even gives them air time.
I am a huge AEW fan but I have been disheartened by a lot of what is going on there. It is clearly a fractured company with two sides, one that actually wants to grow as a real pro wrestling company that has excellent, old school inspired matches that tell stories that get people engaged and interested. The other side (Jericho, Elite) wants to have fun with their friends and do silly self-referential shit to pop the smart marks. I actually enjoy both sides but the latter appears to be winning out over the former unfortunately and the former, where Cody Rhodes and now CM Punk have had some of AEW's best matches/stories, is soon going to be history if CM Punk is gone. An AEW that follows the whims and fancies of Jericho and the Elite is going to be gone within 5 years. Which would be a real shame. MJF, their biggest and most credible star at this point, is definitely going to WWE because why would he want to go back to singing and dancing with Jericho? Tony Khan needs to make some serious choices here and quick if he wants AEW to be around for the long term.
First time I saw "shushing" or whatever it was, was not in wrestling but in MMA after Amanda Nunes destroyed Ronda Rousey. I thought it was pretty badass
Qefka in Chikara I know he's somebody else now, I believe his name is Dan? his Finisher was a parody of the Stunner called the "Shusher" because he was a pantomime
It's still baffling Tony didn't sign Josh Woods, pushed Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia in his place, and then signed Josh Woods to hide him anyway. I fail to see the logic there!
This was last year, and going through both videos, I don't know how some of these dudes still had jobs. I completely forgot Lance Archer and the Butcher and the Blade were even things. Tony seriously either needs to sign guys to shorter deals or actually fire some people are aren't figured in.
I think Jim underestimates the Hispanic audience in America. I'd keep a few of the Luchadores instead of some of the guys like Pillman who've shown me absolutely nothing, other than having a famous last name.
The Pillmam jr point is ironic, considering its the same critic thrown at Jack Perry. Further proof in wrestling that charisma isn't really genetic. As for the Hispanic audience, I think they should go all in on Santana as a rising babyface over any of the luchadores.
I have no idea WTF they're doing with Preston Vance and I'm glad Cornette didn't instinctively decide to throw him out just because he's been toiling away in a going-nowhere faction for over a year, wrestling 90% of the time on the RUclips C-shows. Here's one of the few guys on the roster who has the actual presence of a wrestler and is also under-utilized, and he's farting around doing nothing, just because they're still lighting a candle for Brodie Lee? On the surface it's noble for them to do that, but the Dark Order has zero credibility in 2022 and the careers of their members are suffering because of it. It's high time for him to lose the loser gimmick, turn him heel and have him feud with Wardlow and let's see what they both do with it. Definitely not saying that he should be beating Wardlow, but Wardlow needs a real feud with an actual opponent with some credibility. I recently watched a vlog of Vance's where he said he'd love to win the TNT title one day, and also spoke flatteringly of Wardlow.
Cody made Shawn spears interesting. But aew has not used spears AT ALL since that feud with Cody made Shawn look like a star while doing those vignettes with JR ETC. He even had Tully.

Pretty much the only group in AEW should be Team Taz... Starks, Hook, Hobbs. It's getting to Russo-level of factions now.

There are worse niches to fill. Brawler spent 30 years with WWE as a wrestler and agent.
@@zlinedavid Very true. They all have roles.
And he can have good matches if given the time. He also helps train people.
The Parker Boudreax part when he sounds out "who the F***..." is hilarious! Simple but one of my favorite clips I have heard here. I kept rewinding it. 🤣🤣🤣
The Women's roster clip is gonna be two minutes long of Jim saying "She's Out"
John Moxley and Blade would be a great tag team
Spears has or had a wrestling school, seems like he could be a solid midcard gatekeeper guy while doubling as a coach agent. His NXT height was still prettymid-cardish and they prettymuch just killed his momentum to feed him to Bobby Roode before Roode went on to the title picture (which didn't seem to really benefit either one, Roode already had enough natural hype)
Butcher, Blade and Anjelico all had pretty unique in ring styles and even personalities. But they have basically just blown them completely as job guys (even before the trainwreck that was the Hardy Andrade Family Office and Variety Hour and Travellling Medicine show that ended for no reason because OMG we have both Hardy Boys now.... and see how that went)
Listening to Jim praising Samoa Joe is the best thing.
Just sucks he’s been done dirty pretty much everywhere he’s went. He gets over then whatever company he’s working for uses him as a jobber to the main eventers.
Joe can still be an effective part-time if Khan knew what he was doing.
I know Joe wishes he never signed the contract since HHH took over
Half of the AEW roster would love to jump ship to WWE now that Hunter is in charge.
WARGAMES!!!!!
Good guy, but let him go.
They were also the source of one of my all time favorite Corny nicknames: "The Fish Monger and the Meat Gentleman".
@Crazypretzel101 What?

Hell, Sting is an actual legend. Not this Monday night RAW horseshit where they announce a surprise legend and here comes Torrie Wilson or the Boogeyman
The WWE considers a legend someone who was on the roster for ~5 years or more during the boom times. Being a WWE "legend" and a legend in the overall wrestling business sometimes are two completely different things

@@ColinPeddicord I've got no problem with The Briscoes, but they already have 10 or so teams that need their attention.
This is all cauz of hardly boyz politically signing each of their gymnastics friends. This is the major reason for aew decline.

There are hispanic background wrestlers who actually wrestle though. Is it racist to just assume that all Hispanic people love lucha?
To correct JC here, most of us in LATAM do not care much about the Mexican Wrestling style (that is more of a local thing in Mexico).
