The sad truth is that in the seventies the children of travelling people were forceably taken from their families purely because they did not live in houses. The local authorities genuinely beleived they were doing best by the children. I later knew some one who had been involved with it. Very much regretting it later. A lot went into brick just to keep their children. It was the destruction of a way of life. Britain has the most appalling record when it comes to travelling people. It was the law for many years that each county council had to provide sites for travelling people but the majority never did & the government completely failed to enforce the law. Now life is very hard indeed for travelling people.

It is good merorys as I am gypsy and at baby school my drama and history teacher ask me to play her part in the school and ask my dad to help with the props and after it I played it for all school on lots times n same for the mams n dads and used my dads milk church for water and even came to my big house we used in winter as I only went to school then and all the kids wanted to be my friend and came to see my mams varda that’s caravan n my dads horses I’m proud off who I am n proud to say my sons have boxed for England n won medleys for England 🏴 gold sliver bronze n to watch my sons on a popdum n listen to English music I was n still is so proud them there on RUclips and we are normal ppl n spotless not dirty pikeys we are Roma gypsy and it’s in are blood I just wish we cud pull away now but can’t cos off all ppl good n bad in all my sons n I got friends all cultures my sons fly the gypsy flag x

The sites that were provided by some councils were very poor land. Next to industrial areas and main roads where no one would want to live.
