Love this videos soooo much. I woke at 6 this morning. Started the vid and after a minute I felt like it was 1993 again. Me and my sister getting up early. Catching a glimps of some Sega ads while my Mom cooked us breakfeast.
Alisia Dragoon was for a long time a hidden gem on the Genesis. I have my copy, but nearly passed on it, till I got home and decided to try it in emulation. The next day I hurried to that retro game shop and snagged the copy before someone else could get their grubby mitts on it.
Micah Buzan yeah indeed, i feel sorry for those kids born after the 90’s as they have missed out alot. Once they will know what they have missed from the 90’s ,they will cry.a river, because believe there will no rozen time again like the 90’s!!!
@Wotzinator well the 90’s werent the best decade in human history and so were the 80’s not the best decade either, and yeah there were it’s shitty moments in the 90’s, for instance i fucking hate the year 1996 as it was a terrible time for i also fucking hate the second part of 1997 but apart from those moments the 90’s were in my opinion the best times in my life,
You've got that old feel and sound down pat! If I didn't know any better I would have guessed this was recorded in the mid 90's. And that's a good thing of course.
Yea Alisia Dragoon hot diggity. I replayed that recently and I'm somehow better at it now than I was in the 90's. Still a relatively difficult game though.
Wow, you do some really splashy videos, and not to mention some very worthwhile information on games I never even heard of on the Sega Master Drive system. Come to think about it, some of the games you mention I never would've found.
Quality 9/10, since he said "Roller Thunder 2" instead of the actual title, "Rolling Thunder 2", and they spelled it incorrectly as "Roling Thunder 2".
Great picks! Alisia Dragoon is my favorite out of the main 3 you covered. Some other great Genesis games I'd suggest: Starflight Tiny Toons Busters Hidden Treasure X-Men 2 Clone Wars Star Trek TNG Echoes From the Past Shadowrun Landstalker Pirates Gold Talespin Donald in Maui Mallard Marsupilami The Adventures of Batman & Robin Chase HQ II Road Rash 1-3 Battletech Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike Taz Mania Taz Escape From Mars Shining Force II Beavis and Butthead Boogerman I'd be particularly interested in seeing a "making of" for Starflight and Kid Chameleon. Two great games that were unique and fun in different ways.
Every game mentioned here is a gem and most of them are criminally underrated. Also I don't know if I'd call Rolling Thunder 2 relaxed, the later levels are manic. :D
I always found that you have very good tastes and in particular here with the choice of the last music, from Batman game, that I love so much since I was young ! ;)
I remember spending almost 1 day just to defeat the first boss in Alien Soldier. In the last steam sales I bought Alien Soldier, and man, the game is hard (specially the controls). But it is worth playing (it's a massive boss rush with an alien chicken)
Zoals altijd een zeer informatieve video, kon de games niet echt dus maar even de ROMS gecheckt. Daarom helemaal eens met de video :) Ik wil geen zeikert zijn, maar het is SEGA met hoofdletters.
One of the biggest mistakes Sega did with the Mega Drive was to focus more and more on Western games half way through it's life. We missed out on some amazing games because of that idiocy. and a lot of games moving development from Japan to the US also had them lose a lot of their initial charm. I still can't figure out why they did that. Especially as the majority of them were just Amiga ports.
*"One of the biggest mistakes Sega did with the Mega Drive was to focus more and more on Western games half way through it's life"* Hmm.. sounds like PS3's life to me.
***** On the contrary it's one of the Mega Drive's advantages over its contemporaries ;) the system has developpers & awesome stuff from every regions. & it's "computer aspect", whether ports of Amiga games or exclusives Mega Drive games which have a "computer feeling" is also a HUGE + !
I both agree and disagree. The big ones we missed were Alien Soldier, Monster World IV, Pulseman, the Yu Yu Hakusho fighter from Treasure and some RPGs and shoot 'em ups. Some puzzling ones we missed were games like Super Fantasy Zone and Golden Axe 3 which were both popular Sega franchises. I still don't understand why those were skipped over for the US. Focusing on western development was done for sales, and regardless of modern day opinions it helped Sega pry the North American market away from Nintendo. The western developed games also gave the Genesis its own flavor and it's as remembered for as many of its western titles as it is its Japanese ones, especially the EA library. Still, the US focus was obviously because the Mega Drive was practically dead in the water in Japan early on. Because of this I would still say we missed out on far fewer excellent titles compared to what was left in Japan on the SNES. Hell, we even have some Japanese games that Japan didn't get like Rolling Thunder 3. Thankfully it's all moot today thanks to the Internet.
Being the LUNAR fanboy/nerd that I am, I have to point out that it's actually pronounced lu-nar and not lu-ner, which is the way pretty much everyone assumes it's pronounced. You can hear it in the opening cut scene of Lunar 2 on any system.
2:40 1998? Chelnov was released in *1988* though. Otherwise great video! Keep up the good work! (also i hope my comment didn't come off as rude, and if it was i sincerely apologize.)
This Guy need more views and subs ! There are so many money greedy assholes out there, that just create a game channel and post stuff to make money, but strafefox is different. Thats why i disabled my adblocker, to support him. (he took waaaay more effort in his clips, as some money greedy game channel assholes out there, the proof of this are his excellent content and way more gaps between uploads
Seriously! this guy puts so much work into the presentation. And he doesn't start off every video with "what's up guys? don't forget to like and blah, blah."
***** Neo Geo is certainly a cool system. but I only know a hand full of games and don't own the system. But one game I do own is Last Resort, one of the best looking sprite based shoot'em ups

I grew up with the nes but damn I was and still am jealous of how many cool games came out for the Sega Genesis.
Genesis for life!
***** Thanks
Man nothing beats the batman track in this video. Brought back a ton of great memories
Sega Genesis/Megadrive is my favorite. Well done on this review.
great Batman tune at the end.

I was both a Sega and Nintendo fanboy as a child. I felt sorry for kids who couldn't see the greatness of both systems, they were missing out.

@Wotzinator true that.
Thanks for this works one more time. I love MSX system, Megadrive, PC Engine Hu-Cards and Coin-Ops.
You've got that old feel and sound down pat! If I didn't know any better I would have guessed this was recorded in the mid 90's. And that's a good thing of course.
Awesome episode I remember having Alisia Dragoon as a kid it was and still is a hard but great game.
I like the quality of your editing and transitions. you take pride in your work.
Props .
Yea Alisia Dragoon hot diggity.

Greatest system ever made.
Timeless classic and iconic.

Excelent job again fox, please keep going. Quality 10/10

Great list, all of those games are top tier.
Twinkle Tale is such an outstanding game, everyone should play it at least once if you haven't already.
Nice, wanna play all of this games now! Lol
I had Alisia Dragoon as a kid and loved it. It can feel a littke hard at first, but once you get used it it is a great game.
Every game mentioned here is a gem and most of them are criminally underrated.
Also I don't know if I'd call Rolling Thunder 2 relaxed, the later levels are manic. :D
Great to see you making more videos!
Twinkle tale is an absolute gem.

Hey you
great video! you should collab with game sack someday.
All great titles, especially ranger x. It's a pity Alisia dragon can be very frustrating in later stages.
Awesome
Guys stop reminding me of more games I need!
Pulseman, Aero blasters, Grindstormer, Elimite Down, Landstalker..... ;)

Damn thats that last song!?
What is that cool music in the background 4:25 ?
Wow! Did I hear a remix of Batman in the background near the end of the video?
"I'm batman!!" :) Yeah that track is from batman.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
4:34, Rolling Thunder was written/pronounced incorrectly.
That music at the end is from the Batman (1989 movie) game, right? :D Or was it also used in some other game?
Yep it's from the Batman game, pretty cool soundtrack.
strafefox indeed it is :D
Ranger X don't get no love. A shame
2:40 1988*
Wow, what's the music track towards the end?
It's a track from Batman for the Mega-Drive
@@strafefox Thank you so much! Also awesome content you have here!
Seriously, what's the music at 4:25? It's amazing.
Sorry for the late reply :) The track is from BatMan for the Mega-Drive - stage: Flugelheim Museum
@@strafefox Thanks very much! That tune's been in my head since I watched this video. Great channel, by the way.
Twinkle tale: a tale of peeing.
