Thanks so much! But I know why I don't have a million subs :) -I often cover pretty obscure games -I don't upload new videos that often -I'm pretty terrible at promoting my channel haha But he I'm already really satisfied with all of my subs and awesome feedback!
I've been on the fence about purchasing the series released on the psn, but now I think I'll go ahead and play these games. Thanks, and great work with these videos. Subscribed!
when i was a kid i got alien 3 for my birthday, i cried and so my dad took me to the store to trade it. i got this and loved wonder boy in monster world!
Wowee, this entire series is a hidden-gem to me-!! I wish the greatest success for it's revival. Now with the wonderful remake of The Dragons Trap, the series has great potential to reach more players if it were to have another new wave of ports.
I just started playing The Dragons Trap again... for the first time in THIRTY YEARS! It's amazing how much of it is still familiar to me. Truly the sign of an incredible game.
Back in the day I got the brazilian port of Wonder Boy in Monter World for Sega Mega Drive and it was pretty fun, they only swapped important characters for the Monica's Gang(actual name in english) and the main character only swapped power in her blue bunny(yes, she attacks with her toy bunny...). Years later I played the original version in an emulator and quite enjoyed it too. ^^ Glad now we got the remake of the original Wonder Boy and also an original story with Monster Boy.
The quality of these videos is insanely good, from the visuals to the narrative. Kudos on what I am sure is a lot of hard work. Thank you so much for giving me something fun to do on my lunch break. :)
I grow up playing this series ( the originals and "turma da mônica" hacks.) My passion not changed after all these years. Great video. Liked and subscribbed Ps: greetings from Brazil!
its like watching a HBO documentary about retro games, the difference is that comes from one person,we talk about dedication and professionalism on another level.
Great job mentioning the conversions to Turma da Monica. I played those versions when I was a kid and had no idea they were Wonderboy games until a few years ago.
Interesting my first time learning more of Wonder Boy, and notice how exact the game is to Adventure Island and was partially confused at first. I express my thanks for this video.
The era of the Master System was a Golden Age for Sega, just like it was on Mega Drive / GenesisDoes Wonder Boy, Castle of Illusion (Disney Games), Sonic and others, were incredible series on the Master System
Oh man when I seen the date this was posted I was terrified you were no longer posting content but you are! This video needs more views your videos are top quality. So happy to sub
Loving the CG-ness of the video, makes it all more entertainign to watch. Always bugged me that Sega has never really used Wonder Boy since, not even in the Sega All-Stars series, well they hinted at it in the achievements, but that's about it.
strafefox I would like to know what's going on with the rights. But it's something they could remedy. They sorted out the ToeJam & Earl issue for them to return on a Sega Ages set.
***** All characters used in sega allstars are owned by Sega if I'm correct. Wonderboy was created by westone. Although I think it would've been no problem to aquire the license, for some reason they limited it to sega-only characters.
strafefox They must own wonder boy character, otherwise Westone couldn't license the Adventure Island games at all. Sega did also license the first two Wonder Boy games to Activision for Home Computer ports in the UK and Europe, Maybe they're not aware what rights they have. But Sega are weird with their licenses, look at Streets of Rage, they do nothing with the franchise , but quickly slap C&D's on any fan creations.
+strafefox I thought that sega owned the wonder boy name and license. Also, for that matter, is westone still around? And if not, why not just buy the copyrights for all the games and such? It cant be that hard.
Such talent. So gorgeous. Much wow. Seriously though I can't tell you how much watching your videos makes me want to improve me own ability to create. You are extremely gifted. Brava.
neardark77 Thanks! and glad you liked it! Wonderboy is also one of my favorite series. and yeah a new monsterworld would be sooo awesome. otherwise a HD remake is welcome too :)
Just recently I've finished all the four Wonder Boy games (Monster Land, Dragon's Trap, Monster World, Monster World IV), and it was a great ride, the franchise is amazing. My favorite is probably Monster World IV just because it's so polished, but Dragon's Trap would trump it if it wasn't for the awful charm system which can restrict what you can buy in shops. Excellent video, by the way.
Thanks! and great to hear you enjoyed the wonderboy games, it's really one of my favorite series. Btw they dropped the charmpoint system in the 2017 Wonderboy3 remake. Also: be sure to check out the upcoming MonsterBoy game! :)
strafefox I didn't know that they dropped the charm system in the remake, all the more reason to play it, thanks for the info. I know of the upcoming Wonder Boy game, I'll definitely check it out. Keep up the great work with your videos.
Happytreefriendsfan3 I've finished both MB in Monsterland and The Dragon's Trap (both original and remake). Do you think Monstetworld should be my next challenge? For me there's something about it that doesn't look quite right. I think it's the turning point where the graphics go from Wonder Boy looking to silly cutesy Anime looking. IV certainly got to that anime stage. Also have you tried the Wonder Boy 1 arcade game? It doesn't get the same respect as the others but I think it's awesome. It's one of the original "speed runner" games - making you constantly move.
Ah, OK, I have played Monster Lair. I remember now that I owned it on the PC Engine CD for a little while. However, I have not played Wonderboy in Monster World on the Megadrive. I think what I will do is finally finish the SMS Wonderboy III on stream sometime, then I'll give the Megadrive follow-up a try.
i remember monsterworld fondly in the very early 90s my dad used to come into my room at nine and say its bedtime ( havin school the nextday) well i used to put the tv on mute and turn the brightness down and cover the red power light on the megadrive ( just incase i gotta quickly turn the tv off lol) turning the console off i had no intention of doing i had so many stealthy nights of fun on this game such amazing fun the snow level music was great too
Thanks for sharing those cool memories! I got this game for my birthday and although I was already 13 years old It was a great summer playing it over and over again :) Especially the "to be continued message" at the end got me hyped.
Until the game was given to LizardCube to make an HD version of the third game, Dragon's Trap, which is now on all platforms. Which was really amazing and how well drawn it is. Such an amazing job into recreating the game with HD graphics, better music. I hope they let them remake the other two WonderBoy games. Really a splendid work.
another great video. there are many game reviewers out there, but I've never seen one with such amazing graphical effects. you should be proud. also, anyone who loves wonderboy as much as you seem to, is a pretty cool guy :)
I pkayed this game sooo much as a child!!! My sis would help me past the first level almost every time I booted the game up. Sadly I never beat it. Nice vid:)
Another great vid. Like many have said before you creative skills are top notch. It doesn't feel like your watching some guys videos on RUclips it feels like a full on TV production. To be fair thanks to Chromecast you and other retro game channels do make up 90% of my TV viewing. Thanks for making your vids. Surely 20000 sub's by the end of the year
A bit disappointed that you didn't mention the PC Engine version of Wonder Boy V Monster World III that was edited and renamed into Dynastic Hero. Otherwise, I enjoyed this.
Nice video, back in the day I played the C64 version of WonderBoy in MonsterLand. Later on I played the MegaDrive WonderBoy's with a lot of fun. If i have the time I play them again ;)
I didn't see you mention The Dynastic Hero. It's basically a reskin of Wonderboy in Monster World TurboGraphX-16, but I still think it's worth mentioning. And I think there's a new Wonder Boy game being developed, but it has been delayed a few times (supposedly comes out this year). I won't mention the remake of Dragon's Trap since it's pretty recent.
Yeah really looking forward to Monsterboy! Btw I also enjoyed the Wb3 remake, but it was not released or even announced when I made this video. As for Dynasic Hero I decided to focus on the Wonderboy games and mention that they were ported over to the pc-engine but not cover every single port because it would break the flow of the video.
Curious if you've played the Wonder Boy Dragon's Trap remake and/or Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom? Both are fantastic and I recommend you check them out if you haven't.
@@strafefox hey, just finished another game I think you'd enjoy--Aggelos! Check it out when you get a chance Very enjoyable and extremely Wonder Boy inspired.

great video as with all your videos i love Wonderboy series and it was a shame that Sega never released monsterworld 4 for out side of Japan we all missed out Australia ,Europe , US and the rest of the world and their was more great games we didnt get for mega drive
Anyone that has not put any serious time into a Wonderboy game can not consider themselves a hardcore gamer. One of the greatest all time series that is overlooked by "retro gamers" that only play SNES games.
I have no idea how this channel doesn't have a million more subscribers. The production values on these videos are off the charts.

Alien 3 is a damn fine game!
But Wonderboy is better 😁
An absolutely amazing and concise look at one of gaming's most confusing series. Its also one of my favorite series! Nicely done.

Dragons Trap was my life, i even had a dragons trap themed party and my grandma made me a cake with the bird level on it, i LOVED that game

I have that Asha figurine sitting here in my Desk! I love MW4!! used to play it so much as a kid but over at a friend's house since I had an SNES.

What an awesome work! too bad this franchise didn't grow with me. By the way did you made this presentation all by your self?
Thanks so much! Yeah I pretty much make them myself and of course Chase does the narration.
