...and no, it's not accurate in terms of physics, airflow, or what would actually happen. The fire is too slow and off-scale. It could also use some camera motion and noise. This was done as a quick test of upcoming camera matching and render pass functionality in EmberGen - if I had known it was going to get this many views I would have spent more time on it 🤷♂️

tbh that kinda sucked. smoke looked real but then bad visuals + unrealistic situation just ruined the whole thing.
Yeah the smoke looked real but the fire looked like large flames shrunk down to fit into the pc. A real flame would've been brighter and more sporadic especially with the wind blowing around.

The smoke was impressive, but the flames (although they looked incredible) were more from a large scale burn than a smaller fire. Nice work!

The graphics power of the RTX 3090 is incredible, the flames look real!
Level of realism is more about how much time you're willing to let the project render and how much detail you put in but a better graphics card does mean it can render more detail faster but on a 3090 I'd say this sim probably took an hour or two to render from scratch and then probably thirty minutes to render the final video.

gpu's have a thermal limit and they just switch off at some point
Nah the card would turn off at 105 degrees tops, i actually flashed my AMD cards to turn off at 90, and ramp up the fans to 100% at 75C (mining of course, for gamind is not neccesary, i also did some heavy undervolting to reduce temps)

Ikr? That first "light" was too "peaceful" for an electronic... Normally when an electronic catches fire it is a very quick bright light, kinda lika a very small burst with sparks, and then the fire comes next

absolutely this, the transparency of the smoke and the overall thickness of it is off to as for the reasons @oolj oh mentioned, but its still pretty good regardless, enough to fool you for the first few seconds

Fun fact for everyone worried about their cards burning, your pc will automatically shut down when a component is dangerously hot (provided that they have temprature monitors and theyre working of course), so no this probably wont happen in real life, worst thing that could happen is your pc shutting down and a fried gpu, which is still bad but atleast the rest of your pc wont catch on fire lol

This looks great. If you were to remake this in the future id recommend you keep the same smoke effect but make the flames slowly leak out of the gpu instead of kinda exploding out. Great job, though.
And be a bit more chaotic. They kind of just carefully popped out of nowhere all at once a bit too smoothly.

I legit thought this was real until I saw the screenshots xD, the photorealism you’ve achieved is insane, it’s so good, the fire did look too smooth which gives off an odd vibe but I bet at the regular 27fps this would look 100% real
I've seen an old GPU catch fire. When the PC was booting, fire started shooting out of the 6pin, but it looked like it was coming from the GPU side of the connector rather then the power connector from the PSU. As long as the PC was on, the fire was only increasing, burning up more of the GPU components.

It's funny how you can tell it's CGI cause it's just too smooth and perfect. It's the tiny imperfections that make good SFX looks great.
The same RTX 3090 simulating and rendering this is like a man watching his own death.
I was so confused because it looked real but that looks like a fire you would see on a building, not a gpu.
