Yesterday I tried opium for the first time. A 69ml bottle from the year 83. Now I understand the name of the perfume. It's intoxicating and addictive. Without a doubt one of the best Orientals ever made. It's like an orchestrated symphony where everything makes sense

It's a brilliant composition that reaches into the depths of the soul, animalistic yet controlled with smoldering intensity!!Love it!!XOXO

You've described original Opium to a tee. My mom wore it and/or Chanel No.5 - I've worn both ever since as well but have noticed both were changed into a rather cheap knock-off version, so I often purchase vintage original (I saved the bottles from my teens and 20s late 80s, early 90s so I know exactly what to look for in print, etc...- so that's what I always seek and buy. I'm in my fifties now and still yearn for my mother, so this is the next best thing to remembering/honoring her when I'm able to find and wear them. Anyhow - Totally awesome video - Great memories. Thanks so much. GB/TC.

Just because it has a 2, doesn't mean it came in a gift set.
The batch codes were painted on. So, they could wear off.
The bottle you have is called The Gold Round Cap.
It was used from 1991 to 2003.
Parfums Corps was the first distributor.
    Sanofi was the second.
Parfums Corps was to 1993. Then Sanofi thereafter.
YSL used bottles and boxes interchangeably.
Meaning I have a Parfums Corps but the batch code is 1995.
The Non-Removable Red Cap was first.
Both bottle types' batch date years are the first number.
If you have a Gold Cap and its batch date starts with a 7, then the year is 1997.
It will most likely be a Sanofi.
The Gucci Period started in 2003. It has a removable Red Cap.
I hope this helps you identify the beloved Opium.

Dear Sheba, I'll be waiting for the review of NU. I love NU, especially the dark blue version of eau de toilette. I've stocked up on this perfume. Unforunately, it's really hard to find the edp disc version in Poland nowadays😔 I miss it so much! NU is an enigmatic potion. I've finally found the 1977 version of Opium (the sealed 60ml splash bottle). OMG! It's nine years older than me😎 Wearing it as a man, I feel like Aladdin running among the stands of an oriental market. It's sublime. Thank You for these fantastic reviews.

Nothing compares to original Opium!! Love it. But aside from that, have you tried any of the flankers like Opium Orchide de chine, etc.? I never hear about them, even though I think some were quite beautiful.

Hey Sheba! Do you remember the Opium commercial where Linda Evangelista buys that dude as a sex-slave? That kinda sums up the fragrance for me. :-D Haha! The bottle you've got there looks like the Eau de Toilette classic Opium. Still old-school, but different than the parfum. More screechy and scratchy. The bottle that you described as square with a tassel, THAT'S the parfum. :-) It's smoother, and sensual as all get out!!! Love ya, and good haul!
