My grandmother was a perfumer. She worked with Estée Lauder, the company that made Scope, and many others. I still have endless bottles of Beautiful, Joy, and Musk. Miss her.❤️
My mom always wore L'air du Temps. Every time I smell it, I tear up. She died 30 years ago, and I have her jewelry box that still faintly smells of that perfume.
That's not true. It's because many ingredients can cause skin irritation. Some high end brands still use real sandalwood. There is very good synthetic sandalwood too.
I like the way perfume and fragrance evokes memories - of people, places, special moments and different stages of your life. The comments here about grandmas and mums are particularly lovely.
Last week I smelled a parfume, I wore, when I was a teenager. Today, I would never ever wear it, because it is very citric and sweet at the same time, but I remember, how much I loved it back then 🙈
It's hard for me to remember what they used to smell like. I'm in my 60s. Growing up most women smoked. So there was always cigarettes smell mingled in. 😕I remembered Blue Waltz and Evening in Paris was every mother's gift.
Doleta Wood My grandma was a notoriously heavy smoker, but I do remember her perfume. I somehow got three bottles of them when she died. One of them is too distinctly 80s to wear, but it's good for occasionally sniffing 😂
Carolyn A I’ve often heard it said that scent (and smells in general) and music are two things that can instantly bring back memories to people, and I think there’s a lot of truth in that.
I have been wearing Youth Dew since 1967 and just love it. I am now 75 years old. I still get just as many people compliment me on the perfume today as back then. Especially men!! About 10 years ago I was given Amarige And love it too.
@@galaxytea1239 So difficult to tell you as there is just nothing to compare it with. It is haunting. Just the other day a young man asked me what perfume I wore as he always knew when it was I who walked past his door & he loved it. I always buy the bath oil as it only needs 1 drop on your finger then on the base of your neck and lasts forever. I have empty bottles in all of my bedroom drawers & linen cupboard. You won’t be disappointed.
Was looking for Love's Fresh Lemon from the 70's couple of months ago at the Drugstore.....guess it disappeared 25 - 30 years ago?, as I have not seen it or Love's Baby Soft for numerous years. Mmm?
I used to buy the newer version at Sears, it came in a set with the lavender, powder and lemon spray mist perfume. My favorites for years! To my knowledge they still have a three piece spray set available, a few years ago I saw it at drugstores like Walgreens and such.
My grandmother always wore Tabu. I remember when I was around 10, and thought she smelled so nice. Now that I am almost 70, I wear it myself and think of my granny. It also had a neat bottle shaped like a violin. Memories.
My mother wore it and it smelled wonderful on her. I still have the bottle and the scent is still there. She passed in 1985 but when I miss her most all I have to do is open the little bottle and take a little sniff and she is close to me again.
Remember Maya? Same deal, inexpensive but every woman had a scent died the evening. Evening in Paris is similar to Chandl #5. But the Vermont Country Store has Youth Dew which was classy for every day. L'Air do Temps.
@seattlegrrlie What's old is new. I find that what some things young girls (preteen to teen and even thru college age) are all about now are things I associated with old ladies. I can remember in college no one wanted anything to do with anything rose scented, even room fragrance because only old ladies used it. This is what the young girls like now. Another example was the Vera Bradley bags. When I was growing up, that brand was only used by old, elderly ladies too. So I was shocked when my preteen girls told me all their friends had it and it was the latest craze. They went through that for several years and it came to where you saw that brand expand everywhere. If someone had told me that would happen back in the 70s, I wouldn't have believed it.
My ex-husband used to give me L'Aire du Temps for my birthday, Valentine's day, etc., despite the fact I'd been wearing Shalimar since I was 14, alternating with Youth Dew. I didn't like it then, and I despise it now. He had no idea how personal and important fragrance is to a woman.
OMG! I have been telling people about Evening In Paris for years and they have never heard of it. It was my mom's favourite perfume. She had lots of tiny bottles for her purse and I would always sneak a bit and dab it in all the places she did. That was over sixty years ago. Great memories, thanks for sharing.
Yes white shoulders reminds me of my sister who is now gone also Shalimar my eldest sister wore. Tweed my Grama wore. Yes what beautiful fragrences and should b mentioned
I’m in my 30’s and I absolutely love Anais Anais by Cacharel. It came out in the 70’s but I think most people think of it as one of the quintessential 80’s perfumes. I wanted something similar but not so dated, so I found a site that lets you search scents based on the combination of components, but literally all of the perfumes that came up were made in the 80’s. I always thought it smelled like all of 80’s pop culture got distilled into a bottle, and apparently I was basically right. Anais Anais really does have a scent profile that was almost exclusively used in the 80’s. Nothing similar has been made since 1989. I think I’m just gonna bite the bullet and buy a bottle so I can smell old and out of style for the rest of my life, or until they stop making it. If anyone knows of a very similar perfume that also somehow smells modern, I would love to hear about it, but I’m not sure it’s possible.
I wore that scent over 30 years ago since it was my ex's favorite then and I loved it too ! And how about this....bought it just last week and it still smells so good with great staying power ! ( It made me miss my ex too...sigh).
My mom, too, lynden. She wore it from the time I can first remember until she died in 1995. I ordered an old Samsonite train case like my mother had for her beauty case to travel with. It was from the early 1950s. I told the lady that I bought it from on ebay that my mother's train case always smelled like Tabu. Lo and behold, when it arrived, she had placed a bottle of Tabu in the case and sprayed some in there so I smelled it when I opened it up! There are some terribly nice people in this world :)
@@faithnelson2013 You are very welcome! That is one of my favorite things about RUclips, is that people tell their stories of their past and their connections. Thrifty Drugstore, now called Rite Aid, carried Evening in Paris Gift Set for $1 in the 70s.😮 So if it was discontinued in the 1960's , they must have been clearing them out.
That was my Grandmother's favorite. It was lovely. Also, included should have been is Joy by Jean Patou. It was once the most expensive perfume in the world. Maybe in the 50's. It's a beautiful scent. I just purchased a bottle from Bloomingdales.
@@jennifermcgee8621 True, true, all true but today's 'Shalimar' is exactly NOTHING like the original, and I knew the original Joy pretty well but have never tried the present iteration. I happen to love one of the adverts of 'Shalimar' with Willy Cartier filmed by the amazing Bruno Aveillan, but that's a whole other thing.
@@sheilalambie5597 Some highly respectable 'noses' are saying that Areej Le Dore's very recently released 'Antiquity' is possibly something very akin to the original Mitsouko because for one thing it has all the same sort of authentic natural ingredients in it.
A vintage one that I used as a kid in the early '90s was wind song by Prince MatchabelliI just looked it up after watching your video. It was launched in 1952. Chantilly was another one.
Channel No.5 was my grandmothers signature scent. She moved overseas so we would see her only about once a year but I always remember her smell. The saying of quality not quantity was certainly true for her. She made the most of spending time with her family in the few short weeks she was with us every year. I miss her desperately but I have a flood of memories wherever I smell channel no 5. R.I.P. Abuelita🙏🏻😢
Nicole Smith I totally agree with you! Heaven Sent was my absolute favorite in Junior High all the way through high school! Then I couldn't find it any more! After 30 years I found it in a Walgreens store! I was so thrilled I bought 2 bottles! Then when I got it home....OMG! It was horrible! Not the same at all! To me, it smelled like it had Cinnamon in it! It was cheap & tacky smelling! I returned both bottles! They didn't have a sample/tester bottle when I saw it on the shelves, I asked if they had one. I was told it had been swiped!!!! I just can not get over how bad they made Heaven Scent smell! Heaven Scent didn't have sandalwood in it, or I would have here liked it at all....I hate that fragrance plus it gives me full blown, horrible migraines! So I have to be careful of perfumes! That's one reason I loved Heaven Scent! It was so delicate & not heavy!
@@RudeJudy Yes I believe it does, I'm wearing it now as it is Summer in Australia and it is a perfume my Grandmother wore and I alway think of her when I wear it. Try FragrantX on line this is where I purchased this product. Best wishes.
YSL's Opium; Dior's Poison: Patou's Joy; Lanvin Arpege & My Sin: Guerlain's L’heure Bleue & Shalimar & Mitsouko. Oh my so many perfumes so little time.
@@QuickWorksBeauty When I much too young to wear Opium it seemed the epitome of a scent for a mysterious femme fatale. Now that I'm old enough to wear it, (alas but no femme fatale!) it still evokes the mysterious and oh so sexy. I wore patchouli all through college in the 70s. Funny how a scent can bring vivid memories.
@@QuickWorksBeauty Did you ever come across Cinnabar perfume , it smelled of patchouli, sandlewood , amber ? I think it was from Estee Lauder. An aunt that passed away ,was gifted this perfume from her friend at Christmas. The scent was very woodsy , loved it .
Oh! I was talking about that up above! Smelling it in the bottle it’s my FAVORITE!!! It doesn’t smell good on me anymore. But how excited was I when I had a vintage powder tin and it’s Quelques Fleurs!? Aaahhhhh… I don’t think I like the original Miss Dior…BUT! I like all those notes-I better go to Nordys and smell! The Miss Dior Cherie was the best!!! And I think YSL Black Opium smells similar.
This brought back memories for me of a fragrance by Helena Rubinstein called Heaven Sent which my sister had and I coveted. As soon as that heavenly scent hit my nostrils I felt euphoric. If only I could track down a genuine original so that I could treasure it always.
Oh My, as a senior in high school, 1970, my two favorites were Heaven Scent and Oh DE London. I had both of them on my dresser. Sadly years later I found Heaven Scent but it was not at all the same.
My Maman loved Tatiana, but my Dad didn't like it and I definitely wasn't a fan!! My Maman loved Far Away by Avon, and Beautiful, by Estee Lauder!! Youth Dew was one of her favorites as well.
Me too! I am actually in the process of working on an Avon video! Check out my vintage collection ruclips.net/video/Om8Vttb89vk/видео.html I need to smell that one you suggested thanks for letting me know. I kind of want to see Avon because it is so vintage haha
“L’Heure Bleu” by Guerlain created in 1912 before Shalimar is such a romantic scent and has a cool story behind it. Called “The Blue Hour” it was inspired while Guerlain was walking along La Seine at dusk.
My understanding is that L’heure blue” is the time when French men visit their mistresses before going home to their wives. Anyone else read that anywhere?
I think they discontinued the 1 ounce oil but still sell the 2 ounce size. I wear it sparingly as parfum and use it in the bath. It's a great winter scent.
@@bethparker3205 thank you for letting me know, I absolutely love it ❤️ I have tried it on an Estee Lauder demonstration in Lisbon in 2002, but I was told it was no longer manufactured and it was just for us to learn about the evolution of the brand. Estee Lauder launched a different version of Youth Dew a few years later, maybe 2011 or somewhere around that time. It smelled nothing like the original I had previously tried. It was pleasant, but the original Youth Dew is on a completely different level, truly amazing. The oil smells different from the perfume, way better in my opinion, even if they have the same name. I'm going to try a few stores and see if I have any luck getting the oil. Thank you again.
My aunt who passed away, wore only these two , Estee Lauder Parfum and bath oil. When I was younger I'd tell her to try other Perfumes, but she always said no . She said Estee Lauder was her favorite signature scent . I also loved it , it reminds me of her .
‘Charlie’ was my sisters favorite while I wore ‘Evening in Paris’. I collected perfume bottles as a youngster - I distinctly remember throwing them all away when I left for college. I sure wish I’d kept all my deep sapphire heart-shaped bottles of Evening in Paris!
None of them smell the same. I am old enough to remember them before they were reformulated, I think down to EU regulations. I now hunt for the true vintage formulas but it is risky if they have gone off. My favourite of all time was Dior's 'Dior Dior' which is hard to find. I managed eventually to source some but unfortunately it has lost the top note. Oh well I keep looking lol.
@@gill8779 all old and not so old parfums smell differently today, they had to change their formulas also due to the available ingredients - for example animal products are no longer used - all over the world the same. I live in Europe and am also old enough to remember, I have always loved parfums 😊
@@Anamaria86-j9z Yes, I live in England & also love perfume. I think they used to use something called oakmoss & now use synthetic, but I am not an expert. I do not mind the use of synthetics especially if it is more ethical, I just wish they could replicate the originals much better lol.

Oh wow, this video just popped up in my suggested videos, so I HAD to watch it!Okay so when I was a kid we called "Youth Dew", *yuck ewww"....lol ... and yes Charlie ads were everywhere in the 70s, it was kind of the 'independent' woman wore Charlie. All of the ads were geared toward the 'expression of your own personal strength being recognized by the rest of the world if you wore this perfume'. It was inferred in the advertisements, that if you wore this perfume, somehow at a visceral level people would recognize that you had skills or strength. My grandma Lily lived in Koln and used to send my mother and then me huge bottles of 4711, as well as the soap, so I grew up on it. I'm now in my 60's and it never fails to bring back lovely memories of my youth.

An Evening in Paris was the perfume my grandmother wore. She passed before I was born, my mom was only 23 and told me when I was younger how that perfume was her mothers signature scent. A few years ago I bought a bottle for her on Mother's Day.
My grandmother also wore Evening in Paris. She kept it in the beautiful dark blue satin lined gift box. The gift came with a large and small bottle of perfume. My nana was french and called it "foo foo". I miss her so much.
I just found my vintage bottle! I actually have 2, the one with the faux tiger fur and this one. It's in a heavy gold bottle with a cut glass surround and a heavy gold topper with "Faberge " engraved on top. It stills smells fantastic. I think this one is from the sixties and the other from the early seventies. I remember Lola Falana use to be in the ads. Great stuff.
@@lancedukel3436 My step mother had the bottle with the fur, around the neck I believe it was. That's the one I used to sneak and use anyway. That was in the late 60s early 70s.
Carla Le Mieux I remember it! It had fake Tiger fur around the lid! I couldn't wear it, due to it giving me terrible migraines! But I thought, at the time, it was a really cool bottle!
When I was a boy in Australia back in the late fifties and early sixties, the first perfume was called (and advertised as) "Four-Seven-Eleven" and was quite popular for scenting handkerchiefs.
It was really popular in Ireland too. I remember my dad always bought it for my mam & she also had Evening in Paris. I was allowed wear the four seven eleven but warned off the Evening in Paris....mam only recently confessed that she hated the 4711 but my dad was always selectively deaf & badly organised so she had loads of it.
Loved Intimate , one of my favorites, my mother loves White Shoulders also. My aunt had Jean Nate body splash , I loved that scent, especially in summer. I haven't seen it around lately ,Walmart used to carry it .
You said Jean Nate. My goodness, I haven't heard anyone mention that fragrance in a looong time. I remember my Mom had a huge huge bottle of it when I was little. I'd pour some into my hand and slap it on my body thinking I was doing something. Running around the house smelling like Jean Nate and funk.
Our bathroom was filled with Jean Nate bottles on our window sill. Mom painted the sill dark blue and put green contact paper up for privacy. The contrast of the huge Jean Nate bottles. . . . Memories
I bought mom 4711 in perfume stick form (very small) a few months back from amazon. It reminded us of TABU - a large refrigerated stick have not seen since.
I do miss Chanel °19 and °21. My absolute faves from the 80's. The °21 was soft and powdery. I'd pay anything to buy each of them. Why don't they bring back these back for us nostalgic souls.
Gloria Stroedecke Honey, I have one spray flacon left. I don’t remember at which airport I have purchesed it.But it still remains at airport dutyfrees. Try it...😄
@@LaurajaneatelierSo glad you mentioned Arpege by Lanvin as it was my mother's perfume and I absolutely love it and would say it is my favorite, too. Look forward to your review on it. I remember a time when everyone was wearing Youth Dew and I thought it was so overwhelming. Never been a fan of it.
Youth Dew will always be one of my favorite perfumes, ever. My grandmother loved that scent. My mother used to spray Charlie on me back in the 80's before I went to school. Walmart sells Charlie. Don't forget Tabu, and Rapture. Nice video!
I remember Charlie when it came out and I used to wear it. It was called Charlie only. Charlie Blue and Charlie White came out later, but the original was just called Charlie.
One vintage scent I bought recently is Rive Gauche. It came out in 1971, I think. Reformulated now, but still wonderful. Very condensed floral with a sharp, aldehydic top note and a long-lasting, powdery, floral dry-down. Delicious and intoxicating. Very modern in its time. Classic.
Love Arpege. New, old and in between. It's all good! People think that when someone says "french perfume " they meam #5. Ahhh no. They mean Arpege. At one time Arpege outsold #5 three to one. It was one of the most gifted perfumes, many a GI brought back a bottle for their sweethearts. So romantic. I still prefer it to #5. Arpege is glorious!
Nope - they've definitely changed the formulation of this for the worse. I used to "borrow" my Mum's Arpege as a teenager , and recently bought a bottle for a trip down memory lane. What a disappointment! Ended up giving it away to an old lady.
@Ginny Murray i'm still on the lookout. i want the perfume though. i remember making that little blue bottle last for years! Ginny i only look for the vintage stuff nowadays, everything has been reformulated, even my beloved l'air du temps....if you want to read a seriously great blog about perfume, with recommendations on what to buy if your juice is reformulated, check out Bois de Jasmin. very good advice there. the woman who runs it and the community, are the most knowledgeable on the subject i've ever seen. once a month there's a feature where you can ask what you can replace your retired or reformulated fragrance with. good luck!
@Ginny Murray no worries. i hope we both find our little blue bottles. but not at the same garage sale, because i think there would be some pigtail pulling.
My mom always wore Windsong for years and years. (I looked it up. It came out in 1953.) I love the scent of that perfume. She passed away almost 5 years ago. I recently found some of her things and that scent is still there, faintly. It brings back so many memories.
Love's Baby Soft was my first scent because it was aimed at teens; I had the scent AND the powder, which was a big deal to a teen girl. However, the first perfume I ever bought was Youth Dew. And yes, I had the powder too!😂I haven't worn it in ages; I may need to smell it again!
@@Laurajaneatelier I haven't worn it since I was a teen! It's another one I need to smell again!😆 My current fave is Jo Malone's Lime Basil & Mandarin, which is what I remember Youth Dew as smelling like.
My mother's favorite was "Tabu" by Dana. It used to come in a black bottle. When I was a young teenager (around 13 -14) my favorite was "Blue Grass" by Elizabeth Arden. Two perfumes that couldn't be more different!
It's known as a spiritual perfume, as well as its siblings Rose Cologne, Kananga Water and Sandalwood Cologne. Florida Water is a powerful spiritual cleaner.
Blue Waltz holds so many memories for me! As a little girl, I always got one for Christmas from my Mom. My Mom passed in 2007 and when I'm missing her, I open up a bottle and I can feel her. Since then, my tastes in perfume have matured but Blue Waltz will always be my favorite! 💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙
You forgot Joy! I have been wearing it most of my adult life and I'm 71 haha, Here's a blurb about it. "Joy is a perfume created for Parisian couturier Jean Patou by perfumer Henri Alméras in 1929. It is considered to be one of the greatest fragrances created and is a landmark example of the floral genre in perfumery."
Still love Red Door, Knowing, and one of my favorites; Catalyst by Halston. My mom wore it. Love it! Charles of the Ritz was a favorite along with Borghese borghese, Aliage and White Linen as well. My mom wore Merle Norman body lotion back in the 70’s. It smelled soooo beautiful. I lost my mom and dad 2017 a month apart and I’m wearing the Catalyst.
Muguet des Bois by Coty was one of my first colognes, in the 1960's. For many years, through the 70's and 80's I wore Aliage by Estee Lauder. Not sure if it's even made any more.
sewlittletimetosew, yes you can still buy both perfumes. I actually purchased the Muguet last year, and I keep that around. Another one that I absolutely adored was Avons 'Hawaiian white Ginger'. When they put it out as a special edition, I purchased it. There are a number of classic perfume places that you can purchase online. I'm kind of known for doing that for people. 😁
I worked for Estee Lauder for several years, in the early 2000's some of the " Lauder Girls " took bottles of Youth Dew out on the side walks in front of Macys in New York, spraying it in the air & passing out perfume cards, men would walk from several blocks to ask what the scent was because they loved it sooo much. My husband loved it too!!
Anyone remember Avon's cream perfumes, occur was great but my favourites were epres Max factor and alliage Estée Lauder. But no perfumes last as long as these older ones due to run regulations controlling ingredients.
Oh my gosh. I had all of those scents too. Plus Heaven Scent, Chantilly, Jontue, Chanel 5, Most Precious, Cachet (that was mom's--I sneaked it), Charlie, Love's Baby Soft, Enjoli, the list goes on. I've always been obsessed with perfume.

Adele Jay: Yes, Muguet! What a blast from the past when I saw your comment... :) Makes me smile, that was one of my first scents (I was 16)... I'm 63 now lol !
I started wearing it back in 1984 when a man I was dating commented on it. I wore it till I met the man I ultimate married in 1999. To this day, though, Aliage by Estee Lauder is still my all-time favorite. People used to stop me in stores and on the city sidewalks to ask what perfume I was wearing.

I’m so envious of your perfume collection! I’ve been a perfume addict since I was a teen in the 70s. I work in a facility with special needs people and the employees are allowed to wear any kind of scent, so there aren’t too many opportunities for me to wear perfume; any bottle I have nowadays lasts me forever. When I was in HS I discovered White Shoulders, still a favorite of mine. My mom was friends with the Avon lady and bought a lot of perfumes, Avon had some pretty good stuff. An older woman GAVE me a bottle of Joy perfume, couldn’t believe it. The Old Vermont Country Store seems Evening In Paris and Blue Waltz, along with other interesting perfumes. Other scents I loved over the years are Maysumi, Jontue, Chloe (it’s out there again but not the same), Wind Song, Love’s Baby Soft (found some in Walgreens a while ago), Charley, Fame (not to be confused with Lady Gaga’s perfume), Ciara, Jovan Musk, Chanel. I never cared for the heavier scents such as Tabu, Shalimar or Emeraude. I’m a big fan of Liz Taylor perfumes. I just wish I could wear my perfume to work, I’d do it every day.
Love these scents! I was definitely born in the wrong decade as far as perfume goes. I also own Florida Water, Youth Dew, Chanel No 5, and several vintage Guerlain scents. Tonight I'm winding down for the night wearing Mitsouko. Love your channel and these beautiful perfumes! PS: try spraying a bit of Youth Dew in your bath water! You'll perfume your bath beautifully and not be overwhelmed by it! 🥰
Mitsouko is one of my absolute favourites. Love it even more than Shalimar. Guerlaine makes the best perfume. Dior'La dolche vita is good as well as Boucheron's Jaipur and Kashimir by Chopard.
Does anyone remember “Oh! De London” ? Wore it when I was a teenager in the late 60’s when everything English was trendy. It was ? made by Yardley. I can’t bear all the EsteeLauder scents, too heavy. I still wear Chanel No 5. Dior also made “Diorissimo”. Haven’t seen it in 20+years, it was very light.
I've been trying to find a fragrance from yardley and I don't know the name and that might be it. It was a 'freak incident', I put it on and let's just say I had a magical day..went back to buy it and it was gone and didn't remember the name....(dont ever leave something without at least getting the name) the perfume was in a bin in an outlet type store...that's why I could never find it when I went back. Then about a week later I ran into some random lady who had on the same scent!! I thought, this is great! I'm gonna ask her what she's wearing..she could not tell me much because for her it was just a random find she picked up and it only had the yardley name or not much to go on for a label. She probably bought the one I was looking at. She loved the scent too!! I was so bummed. I can only hope I someday find that scent again. It's odd something as little as a fragrance, can have that much hold over you... Its probably discontinued now. Or they changed the formulary. I will never forget that story...

Estee Lauder, White Diamonds, Charlie and Timeless definitely bring back memories.

I love youth dew I pair it with Clinique aromatics and it’s beautiful

So difficult to tell you as there is just nothing to compare it with.
Who remembers Love’s Baby Soft and Love’s Fresh Lemon from the ‘70’s? Aqua Manda by Goya (orange scent) was also a fave.
Was looking for Love's Fresh Lemon from the 70's couple of months ago at the Drugstore.....guess it disappeared 25 - 30 years ago?, as I have not seen it or Love's Baby Soft for numerous years. Mmm?

Lois OLeary my grandmother always used to dab on me ...Gloire De Paris.....I’m now in my 70s....I can still imagine the scent....
That’s what my mom wore. I still have hers. She passed in Dec. 2021.
I remember, as a teen in the 60s, Evening in Paris was a very cheap perfume. You could buy it in Woolworths and the Five and Dime stores.
It was purchased by children for their mothers, most of whom hated the scent.
My mother wore it and it smelled wonderful on her. I still have the bottle and the scent is still there. She passed in 1985 but when I miss her most all I have to do is open the little bottle and take a little sniff and she is close to me again.
I have a tiny bottle of 'Evening In Paris' . Must be from the '50's. Still smells good !
It's a beautiful iconic scent that was loved by thousands of women. My vintage bottle in the famous cobalt blue still smells lovely!
Remember Maya? Same deal, inexpensive but every woman had a scent died the evening. Evening in Paris is similar to Chandl #5. But the Vermont Country Store has Youth Dew which was classy for every day. L'Air do Temps.

Chantilly is another vintage, I believe it dates to 1940s. It was my moms favorite.
Chantilly... when I was young, all the old ladies wore it. I do like the scent, but I can't wear it because I associate it with grandma
My mom wore that too! I always buy it when I can find it!!
I fell in love with Chantilly when I was 16 years old ( gosh that was in 1982)....and now - thanks for your reminder- I`m going to buy me some:))

@seattlegrrlie
What's old is new.
A little movie trivia. Hannibal Lechter tells Clarice in Silence of the Lambs, "You wear L'Aire du Temps perfume. But not today." Great line.
L'Aire du Temps was cheap. He was insulting her.
My mom wears it and it’s not cheap ... a small purse size bottle is $75 !
@@heatherhowe2469 Sorry. When I was growing up, you bought it in the drug store and it was very cheap. I am not speaking of actual perfume.
If he made a comment about my perfume I would probably stop wearing it. Every time I put some on I would think of him & get creeped out! Ugh!
OMG! I have been telling people about Evening In Paris for years and they have never heard of it. It was my mom's favourite perfume. She had lots of tiny bottles for her purse and I would always sneak a bit and dab it in all the places she did. That was over sixty years ago.
Great memories, thanks for sharing.

I remember a time when everyone was wearing Youth Dew and I thought it was so overwhelming. Never been a fan of it.
I was surprised that Guerlain’s Shalimar and Lanvin’s Arpege were missing. I have all but Blue Waltz and Charlie in my regular rotation of favorites.
The NeedTo-ImpeachNow I still love the smell of Youth Dew. It was the first non drugstore scent I ever purchased
My Mom wore Arpege and Youth Dew..so pretty ❤
Classic.
I love Rive Gauche...
My Saturday shopping scent very unusual
Yes Loved Rive Gauche. Disco days.
you missed Arpege by Lanvin...1929...famous and still LOVELY
Love Arpege. New, old and in between. It's all good! People think that when someone says "french perfume " they meam #5. Ahhh no. They mean Arpege. At one time Arpege outsold #5 three to one. It was one of the most gifted perfumes, many a GI brought back a bottle for their sweethearts. So romantic. I still prefer it to #5. Arpege is glorious!
My grandmother used to wear Arpege in 1950s of İstanbul. I wish I could still find it .
Wear Arpege all the time
@kate morgan ahhh my darling. Ebay has many vintage bottles waiting for you!
Nope - they've definitely changed the formulation of this for the worse. I used to "borrow" my Mum's Arpege as a teenager , and recently bought a bottle for a trip down memory lane. What a disappointment! Ended up giving it away to an old lady.
“Fidji” by Guy Laroche was another popular perfume. Great to wear in the summer.
i love that fragrance. it reminds me of l'air du temps, before reformulation.
Yeah I couldn't agree more this was my favourite when I was about eighteen, lovely scent.
Agree. Stunning in vintage parfum extrait.
Great summer scent! Thanks for the memory.
My mom wore Je Reviens by the House of Worth on special occasions.
that is one of my all time favorites. the reformulation makes me sneeze though. i need to find some vintage stuff
@Ginny Murray i'm still on the lookout. i want the perfume though. i remember making that little blue bottle last for years! Ginny i only look for the vintage stuff nowadays, everything has been reformulated, even my beloved l'air du temps....if you want to read a seriously great blog about perfume, with recommendations on what to buy if your juice is reformulated, check out Bois de Jasmin. very good advice there. the woman who runs it and the community, are the most knowledgeable on the subject i've ever seen. once a month there's a feature where you can ask what you can replace your retired or reformulated fragrance with. good luck!
@Ginny Murray so sorry, i wasn't clear. she [victoria] has a blog. i don't think she's here.
@Ginny Murray no worries. i hope we both find our little blue bottles. but not at the same garage sale, because i think there would be some pigtail pulling.
One of the best
You can still buy Giorgio of Beverley Hills, originally from the 80s
My mom always wore Windsong for years and years. (I looked it up. It came out in 1953.) I love the scent of that perfume. She passed away almost 5 years ago. I recently found some of her things and that scent is still there, faintly. It brings back so many memories.
I love it,it reminds me of l'air de temps
"I can't seem to forget her...her wind song stays on my mind"....the jingle
My 14 yo daughters favorite was Boucheron a French perfume we bought in France. She wore it every day in 8th grade.
I have seen that Baby soft one around, is it good? now I want to try it haha
@@Laurajaneatelier I haven't worn it since I was a teen! It's another one I need to smell again!😆 My current fave is Jo Malone's Lime Basil & Mandarin, which is what I remember Youth Dew as smelling like.
I love Joe Malone! I can guarantee it smells better than youth dew lol
@@kenyabrunson4985
@@Laurajaneatelier lol you are funny😁
another lovely scent "Love's Baby Soft: My husband still buys it for me,
My mother's favorite was "Tabu" by Dana. It used to come in a black bottle. When I was a young teenager (around 13 -14) my favorite was "Blue Grass" by Elizabeth Arden. Two perfumes that couldn't be more different!
My aunt gifted me with Blue Grass and I loved it🥰
My mum didn't bother much with perfume but she wore Blue Grass which reminds me of her even now.
Florida Water is also used in some Latin spiritual practices.
It's known as a spiritual perfume, as well as its siblings Rose Cologne, Kananga Water and Sandalwood Cologne. Florida Water is a powerful spiritual cleaner.
and Hoosier ones😉
As I noticed her lights would get brighter every now and again I was like 😮
My aunt would splash Florida water on us as an afternoon refresher. What memories that brings back. I recognized the bottle instantly😁
I have one, is a cologne? I bought as water to clean bad energies i didnt know it was a cologne
Wind Song and Cachet were my Mom's go to.My god mother wore Chantilly
Wind Song was my mom’s too
I still wear Windsong, in Winter. 💘.Again, AFFORDABLE!
THX to Prince Matchabelli!😙
My Mom wore Chantilly. I always bought her a gift set for her birthday. What a nice memory.
Chantilly body powder was beautiful!
Chantilly is my favorite perfume of all time. I know it came out in the forties and I'm 22 but its fabulous. I adore Wind Song also.
I feel like you forgot to mention one of the most iconic perfumes of the depression era JOY. My grandmother wore it and I still wear it.
Elnoma Reeves - my friend’s Mum used to wear Joy, by Jean Patouille I think
Elnoma Reeves , I still wear it. Classic.
Sewlittletimetosew, yes, you can still buy Estée Lauder’s “Aliage.”
sewlittletimetosew, yes you can still buy both perfumes.
I wore those,too!
Heaven Scent from the 70's. My mom loved Tabu, I still have a small bottle of hers... a little went a long...long...way :)
Jenny Ambush was one of my favs.
I wore Heaven Sent in high school. And Emeraude. 🥰🥰🥰
My grandmother used Emeraude. You can still buy it.
I remember Emeraude! The older ladies wore it when I was a kid in the 60's!
Men love Youth Dew.
i love youth dew just heavenly
Yes! Men love Youth Dew.
I put it in with baby oil to make it last longer
@@leahmaples6921 great tip!!!!
Annais Annais by Cacharel
Memories...
also amor amor!
Caroline P , just bought 2 bottles of Amor Amor.
Love, love, love. Began wearing it in 1979-80 and then, my daughter pinched it. Fell in love with it and it became hers. Classic.
I love that perfume. Still have a tiny bottle on my dresser.
Anyone remember Avon's cream perfumes, occur was great but my favourites were epres Max factor and alliage Estée Lauder. But no perfumes last as long as these older ones due to run regulations controlling ingredients.
Yes!
My first perfume was Miss Dior when I was in high school. I loved t! I also love Tatiana, Shalimar and Ciara. Those were the days 😁
Ciara is a good scent, too. That scent stays on the skin until washed off. Unfortunately, some of the newer fragrances just don't last after an hour.
Loved Tatiana!
I love Ciara, especially vintage
My mom wore Les Jardins! It was a nice scent on her!
WOW. Auntie gave me a bottle of a bottle Blue Waltz when I was a young girl. I love the sweet smell.
Omg, my mil wore that! Back in '89, I found a bottle at Ben Franklin's in a town of about 4500. Needless to say, she was ecstatic.
Florida water was in a scene from the movie Gone With the Wind
Oh that’s so neat!
@@Laurajaneatelier In the movie, Scarlett is in mourning for her second husband and is drinking heavily to deal with her guilt. Rhett butler shows up at her house and she picks up the bottle of cologne and gargles it, and then dabs some on herself *the movie company replaced the main label so they wouldn't get in trouble with the cologne company but the bottle shape and the Florida water bottle neck band are still there to give it away* here's a link to the scene. ruclips.net/video/KHbgttQdXv8/видео.html
Oh wild it looks the same! Thanks for sharing
My God, I remembered Gone With Wind as soon as I saw this video. When Scarlett is trying to hide the alcohol breath from Rhett!! Such a funny scene!!! Thanks for the info!
@@Dominothespotcat You have got a good eye!!!!
Also, White Shoulders and Shalimar.
Elantara
I love Shalimar!!..I wear it most of the time.
I love shalimar too!
I wear Shalimar, its my favorite perfume of all time.
@@lenafranklin7262 I wish I could wear all those great perfumes now, but they give me a headache! Too bad.. 😣
My step-sisters' mother always doused herself and her home with Tabu!
What's crazy is I remember the jingles and slogans for so many of these! I can still sing the whole Charlie song! Sweet honesty, Arpege, windsong... Just don't ask where I put my keys.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane everyone.
I wore Anais Anais for years. I didn't think you could get that anymore. Wear jo malone now, English pear and freesia. I love nearly everything in that line.
I was given Charlie as a teen. And started wearing it. I liked it, but unfortunately my darling cat HATED it, so no more Charlie. No perfume at all, because she ruled with an iron paw.
I LOVE Estee Lauder Youth Dew!!! ❤
Cloying😗🤔🤔
@Ginny Murray yes! My mom tried to wear it, but it did NOT agree with her body's chemistry. It smelled like cat urine on her! 😕 LOL!
Growing up in the late 60's with three sisters our bedrooms and bathroom absolutely reeked of Heaven Sent. Too sweet !
Muget!! Love that perfume...Lilly of the valley.
I can still smell it ....ah..🥰
There was the flower Lilybof the Valley in whatever my grandmother wore everyday. I took some flowers from the backyard the first year she was dead and both my motherland I almost fainted when see out them in the grave. We didnt realize we,planted it because it reminded us,of her. But that wonderful perfume was a true perfume and not a clone of the flower.
@@mamadillo9994 that's an iconic Lauder scent! They still make it. It's a shadow of its former self. The vintage is stunning and you can still luck out and get a bottle in good condition.
We're talking about vintage perfume and Guerlain isnt even mentioned??? Where's Mitsouko, l'Heure Bleue, Samsara, Shalimar and all the great stuff of one of the oldedt perfume houses in the world!!
Stunning bedroom tho
Samsara is gorgeous! Inoui will always be my fave though, even if you can't get it anymore.
@@jkay606 Samsara is still available .,just check your shops.
@@patriciaoakes8689 Thanks Patricia:) I did know that, I was just replying to the comment about what Akiy mentioned. It's a shame Inoui isn't anymore though :)
I have a Shalimar tattoo I’m that into it! It’s my absolute favorite!
Mitsouko is my fave, 1919 and still available
Loves Baby Soft! Plus the music in the background was so incredibly cute!
Mali Rabbi
I loved watching this! I'm in my sixty's and through my life my favorites were... Unforgettable by Avon. Wish they still sold it! Loved the scent and the bottle! Evening in Paris and my absolute favorite Channel No.5.
My memories of the 70,s are Rive Gauche , Fidgi , Charlie , Caleche , Madame Rochas , Blue Grass , Worth and Tweed. 😃 Glad I found your channel! Please can I see you decor style? I'm in the U.K with similar style to you 😍
I love Animals I love Animals oh my God! Fidgi
Scent Lover you can still buy it here in the U.K 😃
happy expat me too! It was a real classic. Everyone always commented when I wore it. X
Swamp Ophelia yes!!😃😃
And Jean Nate! So strong! 70s version of Giorgio!
Not Cabochard? I got a teeny vial forty years ago, still live it, and it’s still available.
Oh that’s a bummer I love perfume too
Masumi, wow I wore that in the early '80s; also wore 'You're the Fire' in the mid '70s.
Opium and Magie Noir...two classics of the 80' 😉❤
Agree
My favorite perfume in the 70s was Ambush. It smelled so good.
Thanks for the tip I will try that
Mitsouko is one of my absolute favourites. Love it even more than Shalimar. Guerlaine makes the best perfume. Dior'La dolche vita is good as well as Boucheron's Jaipur and Kashimir by Chopard.
When I think vintage perfume shalimar is the first one that comes to my mind! Will always remind me of my grandmother 💜
Guerlain Jicky 1889, Guerlain Mitsouko 1919, Rochas Femme 1944, Gres Cabochard 1959 - still produced, although reformulated.
Love Gres Canochard. Wore that in the California Apparel Mart on the late 1970s
Shelagh Jackson loved Diorissimo!
@@QuickWorksBeauty I remember Oh! de London and tried very hard to find it but without success. Does anyone know where I could find it?
Shelagh: If you ever want to experiment a bit, you might want to see if you can find Estee's Aliage. Floral, very light, but hard to find.
Vermont country store carries some vintage scents and I believe are responsive to requests. You might give them a try.
