My Mom died 17 years ago the day before this Thanksgiving. She wore Chanel No.5 every day of my life, and a full makeup job too. She freshened everything up for my Dad’s return from work, which included hair rollers moistened with Dippity Doo. I have her last bottle of Chanel No.5 behind glass with treasures I’ve collected from around the world and need to keep safe from my cats. The smell of her perfume on anyone else brings me to tears; I miss her terribly. I’m 65 and have worn Obsession for decades. Strangers stop me to ask what I’m wearing all the time. It never happens when I try something different.
I remember a nun teacher from our all girls Irish Catholic primary school who loved 4711 she would dab it on her wrists and behind her ears she was always wearing it quite unusual for the late 70's for a nun to wear cologne it always reminds me of sister Bernadette
My mother still wears Channel #5 and she bought me a bottle for my 18th birthday. I'm 62 now and I still wear it on special occasions. My day to day perfumes are Burberry Brit and Truth by Calvin Klein. Sorry, that sounded much more interesting in my head...😂😅❤
My mom's signature is Youth Dew, I love it but don't wear it because it doesn't smell as good on me as it does on her. I definitely think that body chemistry plays a roll on what scents you can wear. I wear White Linen and love it!
Agree ! My sister-in-law wore Chanel No.5 & I loved it on her ! However , when I first apply it , even very lightly , the scent just doesn't work for me ; then about 15 min. later & the rest of the day , it " mellows " w/ my body chemistry & it's perfect !
My mother wore Charlie so I bought a bottle to remember her by. She had Shalimar and I loved that. When I was a kid Evening in Paris was in every drug store.
Charlie was so so popular! My husband’s family who lived in India in the 80s always requested that we bring this to them on a visit every woman I wanted it in his family. Loved the theme song
My mother (born in 1952) wore Jean Naté in the 80’s and 90’s. It was her old fragrance for over a decade because she liked it, and she could afford it. My mother passed away a decade ago, and Jean Naté is a fragrance I love, and I will always own.
I loved Heaven Sent by Helena Rubenstein and the one today is by Dana and I don't think it's the same. My grandmother had Evening in Paris in the indigo blue bottle on her dresser. I found a bottle of Blue Waltz in the Texas Hill Country at a retro store. Blue Waltz was sold in department stores for teens mainly. In the 80's I used Le Jardin by Max Factor and Jane Seymour's commercials for it were truly beautiful. Oh! de London by Yardley was popular, but it wasn't easy to find where I lived.
My very favorite perfume was Celedon by Estee Lauder. It was part of a trio--White Linen and Pavilion were the other two. Does anyone remember them? The company decided to focus on White Linen and stopped making the others. I got so many compliments when I wore Celadon. I still miss it!
I still wear Shalimar. Mostly in the autumn and winter. It’s too heavy in warm weather for me. A friend’s mother wore it and that’s where I first encountered it, back in the 70s.
I loved it too, but it dosent smell like the original formula anymore. I first received it as gift from my dad when i entered jr high, in 1972. I was in heaven with the luxurious smell. Im in my 60s now and i dont buy it any more because i noticed the smell is different.
I used to love Aromatics Elixir by Clinique and got lots of compliments when I wore it, but they changed the formula so that now it smells like rubbing alcohol (at least on me). I miss it.
@@barbarak2836the EU banned a lot of perfume ingredients and reformulation became necessary. It ruined most of the scents. The EU are run by criminals.
I always keep a bottle of Happy around. It's light and the perfect daytime fragrance, I think. For day I also like Clinique's Calyx, a fragrance they brought back from the dead.
I've worn a number of the fragrances mentioned, but one of them absolutely turned me off. I don't know why I hated Youth Dew so much; maybe it was because my friends in college were wearing scents like Charlie. But of every fragrance I've ever worn, my absolute favorite is Rive Gauche. I started wearing it around 1971 and have never looked back. And today's my birthday ~~ 70 years young!
Do you remember Anais-Anais? That one definitely had a moment in the late 80s, early 90s. Also, it seems to be hard to find my favorite, Indecence by Givenchy. (Part of the Organza collection).
Can you describe the scent? I'm so sensitive to scents. Anything heavy or spicy will give me an instant migraine. I've had to forgo perfumes for the most part. I can wear certain body sprays from Bath&Body works and I got one of the Juliette has a Gun perfumes from ipsy and I can wear it.

I agree, several perfumes have changed their formulas since the 1970's to their detriment. I used to love Charlie, Tabu and Chanel #5. I am currently attempting to find a modern perfume that I love. So far, they are all just okay. I am looking for something really special.
My mom wore Youth Dew. She told me that I once dumped a bottle of it into my bath - I was 3 years old at the time. She said “You could smell it all the way down the street and could smell it on you for days!”

I enjoyed your video thoroughly. When I was younger, I loved trying all the old and new fragrances to match my moods. At seventy years old, I have cut down to two favorites: Youth Dew (easy does it) for fall and winter, Diorissimo for spring and summer. A favorite of my girlhood was Coty's L'aimant.
Interesting that you mention different scents for the seasons , as I do too . I prefer a warm , slightly woodsy , spicy scent for winter & a lighter , green scent for summer . My year 'round favorite is Nantucket Briar by Crabtree & Evelyn - a light powder scent w/ a hint of lavender & a very faint spice - very " soft " . Even when just using the lotion , I've had compliments . It's hard to find ( discontinued according to some sources ) but on-line at high prices ! I often find the lotion at TJ Maxx & stock up for myself & to gift friends .

For years I wore Calyx by Prescriptives. A very fresh and citrusy scent. But then for some reason I'll never know they changed the formulation and ruined it. I don't even know if they still make it. I also loved a perfume by Shisedo, a Japanese company, but I think they stopped making that one too. Now I wear Fiori Chiari by L'Herbioso (spelling?!), an Italian company with really wonderful botanical products. I should buy a few bottles before that gets discontinued too! Just remembered the name for Shisedo...Relaxing Fragrance. That was it's name!
The bottles for L'aire du Temp were from Lalique. Be careful and look for the glass tops as they were redone in plastic and at a glance, it's difficult to tell. Dior also has a bottle by Lalique with lilies of the valley for the stopper. Those in perfect condition go for around the 300 dollar mark.
If you can find Youth Dew bath oil, it's much better than the other forms of this fragrance. It blends into the skin better, is smoother, and more mellow. Still, use it sparingly, because it is not a shy fragrance!

First. 😊 Edited to add... excellent video. I wore 4711, Charlie, Lace, and Ruffles when I was young. Currently, I still have Taylor Swift's Incredible Things on the go.
My grandmother and mother (Netherlands) preferred 4711. Shalimar is my favorite from my youth which is timeless and unisex. Lauren Hutton, beside being a model and actress also had a talk show--Lauren Hutton and. . .--a very stylish talk show in the way it was filmed. She had a 1 on 1 approach in her interviews. ❤️ One fragrance I remember my Mom had was Chantilly by Houbigant. (I'm 70). Very feminine.
Love these cosmetic and fragrance videos, how about 1959? 💗 I used to wear Youth Dew in the 70's. Just started on a whim to try it again, and get many compliments. It's a keeper,, lol
I was in a cute little shoppe in Maine that sold crystals and Knick knacks- they had “Florida Water” and my mom freaked out because my boujie great grandma loved that stuff and used it as an air freshener
My mother-in-law, a first generation Dutch transplant LOVES this EDP. She remembers wearing it and spritzing her handkerchief and sniffing it church to stay awake!! So classic. I remember “Je Reviens” - ever heard of it? 😉
Jovan makes a fragrance called Island Gardenia -- it's the closest thing to Jungle gardenia I have smelled so far. Sometimes they even sell it at Walmart .
Great new video, Laura. I love all these vintage fragrances. It’s a shame you don’t love Tabu, I feel it’s one of the most affordable and great quality scents, an eternal lasting scent that turns heads for good and bad reasons. I’ve been thinking of getting a bottle of 4711 as I’ve heard it’s basically the same as Tom Ford Neroli Portofino, at a much lower price obviously. Would you ever consider doing this type of video for the old Hollywood male fragrances too?
I miss a perfume that was called "Cabriole" by Elizabeth Arden. Certain fragrances bring back memories of much happier times. I don't know why it was taken off of the market because it was such a beautiful floral-like fragrance. Perhaps, it was too expensive to produce in large quantity.

One fragrance I remember my Mom had was Chantilly by Houbigant. (I'm 70). Very feminine.
I just LOVE fragrances, colognes, perfumes and oils. I was born in 1957 and would LOVE to know is there a '57 fragrance?❤🎉😊
I can do a 1950s perfume video
I was born in 57 also and would love to know the same!

Do you remember the name of the shoppe and/or its location?
@@CathyS_Bx I just looked it up! (Kept the cute little bag for the longest time) It’s called “A Little Mad” and it’s in Bar Harbor!
@@CathyS_Bxyou can get Florida Water online easily too, don't forget
Aliage by Estee Lauder , super green and clean . Loved it
I love Marilyn monroe so much ❤❤❤.
Me too!! ✨✨
Musk, Jontue, loves babysoft
Jontue was amazing
My mother-in-law, a first generation Dutch transplant LOVES this EDP. She remembers wearing it and spritzing her handkerchief and sniffing it church to stay awake!! So classic. I remember “Je Reviens” - ever heard of it? 😉
Babe by Fabregee(sp) smelled so good!!!
I loved Tuvache's Jungle Gardenia in the 60s. It had a very delightful dusting powder
I would like to know which fragrances Desi Arnaz wore😍
My mother wore Youth Dew her whole life. Just a small whiff and it reminds me of her.
I have charlie just as alight fragrance for everyday wear but really did love lair du temp back in the 70s
My favorite is Fracas. It has a freshness that appeals.
Madonna's mother wore gardenia perfumes . Madonna loves Fracas and Portrait of a Lady. She also loves Annick Goutal Gardenia .
My all time favorite vintage fragrance was Gardenia by Mary Chess .
Yes Youth Dew was too much for me.
Popular in my mother’s day.
I miss a perfume that was called "Cabriole" by Elizabeth Arden. Certain fragrances bring back memories of much happier times.
I don't know why it was taken off of the market because it was such a beautiful floral-like fragrance. Perhaps, it was too expensive to produce in large quantity.
My mother got me Evening in Paris when I was a teenager. I still have it.
My dad wore 4711 mom shalimar in winter , le aire du temps in summer .
Hey Laura❤ I love your videos so much💘 loves from Turkey! By the way you can add Vanderbilt by Gloria Vanderbilt to this list. It’s a 80’s perfume but it’s still smells so rich and elegant 💋
I love your videos✨️✨️✨️✨️
