Funny I just saw this post. At the pediatrician's office today with my kids for their appointment, he asked my husband and I.. how do you feed your kids using the ancient ways? My husband started answering, and I was confused so I asked... what do you mean by the ancient ways?
So he said, meat, egg, fish, providing food in the simplest forms instead of adding stuff to please our tongues e.g sauces, frying etc are the ancient ways. In his words, your taste buds/ tongue may not be happy with you but your body will thank you. That was quite enlightening. My husband is a health nut and was just giving me the stare. Lol. I am a sweet tooth so It gave me things to think on.

I knew there was a reason I fell in love with your channel! Early this year your best friend made a short showing “what she shops for her family” and I made a comment about being concerned about the amount of processed foods, snacks, biscuits and juice in her food haul but I was crucified by her keyboard warriors! I’m so glad that you’re educating Nigerian mothers. Somehow juice, baby fornulae biscuits, pizzas are now symbols of affluence. Weve been convinced that semovita , oat fufu is healthier than our fibre rich garri . Nollywood would show folks drinking sugar water aka juice with their rice and we will think theyve arrived . God bless you Ada for doing Gods work.

    • @inspirationalliving6975
      @inspirationalliving6975 2 месяца назад +2

Oh, finally someone that understands that our garri and other swallows are better than oat fufu. Oats is full blown carbohydrate so when i see our people claiming to be on a diet and eating oat fufu i smile but would never comment because the keyboard warriors are plenty. I'll rather eat garri and akpu if i had them readily available.

The company/manufacturers, government e.t.c do not care about your health, they are focused on profit! I learnt this from a healthy masterclass I attended late last year. My advice is, always read your labels, question every single ingredient on the list, also note that sugar on labels have different names so do not expect to see 'sugar' spelt out on the ingredient list.

    This is insightful, Thank you!
The accessibility to these foods we are trying to avoid makes it so difficult, it requires discipline. Older generations didn’t grow up eating this much sugar and unhealthy food; it’s sad.
I bet we are all guilty of the cereal and milk-feeding for the picky child. It made me feel so guilty that I had to change that for my second baby. I’m currently on a journey of trying out healthy options for food and eliminating potential dangers(processed foods) one step at a time.
    So help us God.

  • @fikayoomotesho607

I have SO MUCH to say on this topic. Besides agreeing with everything you’ve said, even the way we portion our meals as Nigerians is so unhealthy. Protein is always supposed to be more than carbohydrates on your plate, but people will argue that it’s greed. How false! It’s as a result of socioeconomic challenges that people do not/cannot practise this. Plenty rice and one small chicken doesn’t make sense. I used to think Nigerian food was healthier than Western fast food until I realized how much oil we use to cook. Also, meat does not need to be boiled AND fried. Overcooking reduces the nutritional value of our food. There are so many food practices we need to unlearn and it’s discussions like this that will help us grow (and the wisdom of God).

May The Almighty bless you for this video. You don't know how scary all the food are. Even the cereals they sell you will be amazed at how many ingredients they have. You're so right as to how easily accessible these sugary sh*t are. Like getting chocolate, cookies and cakes is like pure water. I'm just grateful my daughter doesn't like juice or anything aside from water. I also rarely give her cakes. It's not easy ooo because picky eating also makes it difficult but we can only try our best. Also I totally agree with you on the support mothers need, it's sooo important. From pregnancy, to breastfeeding, to starting solids and so on. That breastfeeding part, a lot of sensitisation needs to be done to help women achieve and also we need to be more encouraging instead of being judgemental. It's not easy ooo but may The Almighty make it easy for us. God bless you for this.

But being addicted to the foods i eat eventually made me give them to my child and it just becomes a norm and a routine and it’s very hard to break
From the way the stores are designed to advertising
    Everything is against you
The kind of discipline one needs in this society to eat healthy consistently is abnormal
It takes 3 months to break a sugar addiction, even if all your family and friends and colleagues were doing it alongside you it will be extremely difficult but when you’re the only one

People think I’m crazy whenever I say I didn’t grow up eating candy. I’m 21 now and I prefer eating food at home because it’s healthier and that’s how I grew up. It’s been a constant struggle with my weight because of hormonal imbalance but I’ve also realized that a big portion of my problems are what I eat. In as much as I make my own food 90% of the time, I realized I like sweet things. Not candy but like cookies, cakes and like you said it’s more accessible now than when I was younger. Even my snacks used to be veggie straws, etc. I realized I’m addicted to sugar. Like I can make a nice meal within my deficit but I crave dessert after. It used to be funny but I watched a video and the doctor said that we have a sugar dependence 😂😂. Omo the thing makes me weak, but I think especially here in America, they tamper so much with the food that even the “healthy” food you are making can be laced in sugar and you don’t realize how dependent you are on it.
Sorry for the rant but at least I’ve seen someone that understands my constant thinking 😂😅
