This is the 1964 Newport Folk Festival and Dylan was the defacto leader of the folk movement at this time. He is the writer of this song which the Byrds covered and had a huge hit with. A year later Dylan would return to Newport and played an electric set and the world was never the same.

Dylan wrote and recorded this one first. The Byrds were on the same record label as him at the time, and they covered this song and released it as their first single, as well as the headlining song of their first album, which came out a few weeks after Dylan released this. So a lot of people heard it from the Byrds first, and their version was so popular that it spawned the term "folk rock" in popular music.

Bob Dylan came to the UK around 1963. I'd heard of him and there was a programme about him on the television so I watched it and recorded it on my reel to reel tape recorder. I must wore that tape out and eventually the inevitable happened, my sister recorded her pop music over the top of it. One thing that I remember about that programme is that when he played Tambourine Man he seemed to be in a fairground with a Ferris Wheel in the background and looking back it seems to have been an early "pop" video. I remember that the Byrds were terrified that he'd hate their version but his reaction was "F*cking great". One of my favourite songs is "Bob Dylan's Dream". It's very poignant song about growing old basically and people of my age relate to it. How did a twenty something year old have the insight to write such a brilliant song. Excellent presentation. I enjoyed it.

BRO, Bob Dylan was raised and attended school not far from me in the State of Minnesota. He left home to pursue a career in music in sunny California. There's a myriad of facts and stories about him, but rather I say his poetry in song speaks for itself. Songs of his, "Like A Rolling Stone"; "Lay Lady Lay"; and a much later "You've Got To Serve Somebody", all reflect the many changes in his life. In California he met a soulmate, a rising star herself named Joan Baez. Please consider adding her, "Diamonds And Dust". And a later song, "Hand To Mouth", with an accompanying video is my favorite accomplishment of Joans'. This music here in America is usually labeled "folk music", although here it crosses over to other genres as well. First time seeing your Channel, and I like it! THANK YOU!

Dylan had been famous for about a year at this point. His earlier songs had been notable for their political and social stance, and at the time of this song he was moving away from "finger-pointing" songs. Mr T was written and released by Dylan but was covered by The Byrds, who reached number 1 with it. Like a Rolling Stone came a few months later and reached number 2.

So good to see a young man getting into Dylan. His music and poetry is far to good for just one generation. I was 14 when this came out and so we were greatly influenced by the Beatles and Dylan at the same time. These two were responsible for some of the best popular music ever and they certainly influenced everyone of their piers at the time and everyone who came after. There is a massive catalogue of Dylan to listen to but I suggest you stay in the 60s and early 70s to start with. I saw him perform at the Isle of Wight festival in 1969. I live here now. Some suggestions ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ Desolation Row, Visions of Johanna , Ballad of a thin man , Positively 4th Street( the best put down song ever!) Look forward to the next one!

I don't know if you're able to but in general you'll appreciate him more from his album versions. That was pretty tight but he can get a little loose and you may not hear the song anything like how he originally recorded it.
But... I know RUclips and Dylan don't seem to agree with each other. Some people can do it somehow but not many.
From this same album, I'd say the mandatory ones are:
    Subterranean Homesick Blues
It's Alright Ma (I'm only bleeding)
    Everything is good though.

you mentioned ed sheren his version of dylans masters of war is decent :) i'll go backwards through dylan in my opinion back to 69 before that listen to every song on every albutm and pick your own 10-15-20 classics ok you should listen to dylan and a few other people doing 'make you feel my love' many dylan fans hate it but i think its him going you this is the perfect soppy love song i can write in any style i like !(from time out of mind 1997), blind willie mctell (brilliant beautiful classic but left off an album 83's album came out in 91 on the in the bootleg series) , then most of the time alternative version #2 from the oh mercy sessions from 89 the single /album version is shit but this version is as good as any song i know on the breaking up including yesterday , try both non classics from the 80's 'When the Night Comes Falling from the Sky' (Alternate Take) off empire burlesque and shot of love off shot of love from 81 , back to the absolute acknowledged dyaln classics tangled up in blue and hurricane from blood on the tracks 1975 oh and listen to 'hard rain..' live from 76 to give you an idea of how amazing he was sounding live then with mick ronson (stright outa bowie) its prosumed influancing the sound , the 76 one is almost proto sex pistols , and 2 more acknowledged classics then 'lay lady lay' and 'girl from the north country' (with Johnny cash) from nashville skyline 69 you'll hear the full range of dylans voice in these , then as i say listen to0 everything he did before 1969 including bootlegs basement tames and stuff with the band enjoy :)
