Dylan is trying to get in contact with his muse (The Tambourine Man) to help him write new songs. To free his mind so that can happen is where drugs could be involved.

I'd love to see you do an analysis of Robert Hunter's lyrics for, Eyes of the World.

The lyrics for that song are really beautifully written. I'll put it on my to-do list. But it takes me a while to create a video like this because I really have to think about the writing. I'll comment here when/if I can make a video on it. In the meantime, it would be amazing if you could take a listen to my original songs of mine on this channel. They also has poetry in them.

Hi could you please react to the lyrics of Bob Dylan's song 'Murder Most Foul' from 2020, thanks!!!!

Hi Mark, I'll look into it and follow up. Thank you for the suggestion and for listening to this video. What are your thoughts on this video btw?

@@alexgenadinikmusicandpoetr1012 Thanks that'd be great. I really enjoyed the video.
Or maybe you could do a video reaction to 'Murder Most Foul' if you've never heard it before.

You know Mark, I listened to 'Murder Most Foul' today - for about 6 minutes. I wasn't too aware of this song before, and didn't realize it's about 15 min long :) ....I found it to be a little slow musically - not a real song but just a poem set to music, but mostly just a poem. It's not my favorite subject matter, but I'll finish it at some point, and follow up. What specifically attracts you to this particular song?

@@alexgenadinikmusicandpoetr1012 I just really like the words and the meaning behind them.
You should react to his song 'Mississippi' from 2001

I listened to that song today. It's a nice story. I put it on my list of songs to react to. But it gave me the impression that Dylan's latest work isn't as musical - I didn't have the natural desire to listen again and again like I did his earlier work. Btw, it would be also amazing if you took a look at my original songs on this channel. Have you given that a listen? My hope is that people find it not too bad :)

To think this song is about drugs is a complete distraction and a waste of time. This is one of Dylan's most gorgeous lyrics. For me it invokes the human desire to escape pain and drudgery, to explore, and to celebrate a more free and wondrous life. Compare this to the Steely Dan lyric in Your Gold Teeth II (make sure its the 2nd version) where you are encouraged to take a chance, risk failure; roll the dice and reap the reward you would otherwise never experience.

Bob has said, and I am sure it is not ABOUT drugs. It is about music (pied piper). Drugs provide an analogical experience to music.

The term tabourine man was slang for drug dealer. Ok, that's a drug reference.
But in black church gospel music, the tambourine man was the bringer of good tidings and I would think there was precious little drug reference
in that music. So which tambourine man was Dylan talking about?

Hello and thank you for watching. I didn't know Tambourine man had those other meanings. That really adds another fun meaning to the song. I had read somewhere before that the tambourine man was an actual musician Dylan played with briefly. So I thought it might have had minor meaning. But I really like the imagery of the protagonist of the song looking for escape almost dancing to the tambourine man - shows the drug dependence. Thanks for your comment :) What's your favorite Dylan song?

No way can I pick a favorite but I can tell you that at first, Dylan's voice in Mr. Tambourine Man was too nasal for me, especially compared with the Byrds' ear candyish rendition of the song. It wasn't until after graduating high school in the summer of '71, at the decree of all my hip friends--who were already convinced the man was a bonafide genius, that I really gave Dylan a chance. One night after completely darkening my room I cued up the song. I was sober. While absorbing the last verse, I suddenly had the feeling I was levitating, floating "...down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves, the haunted frightened trees…"
For a few moments there Dylan really and truly had dispatched me to another place.

Haha - that line "Down the foggy ruins of time" ...what a line! But my favorite is the "wicked reach of crazy sorrow" - like omg wow. But then again....how does one write a line like "Down the foggy ruins of time" - so amazingly creative.
