One weird thing that i noticed was whenever I'd start a new round with kolin, she goes from her "ready" pose to her, more relaxed, idle pose. I'd mimic that and sit up in my chair and take a deep breath to reset

    You are completely right.
My playstyle goes from amazing to rock bottom due to being angry. I think my real life emotional state that I've been supressing come on surface when I play games. I always expect relaxation but instead I get annoyment that only multiplies when you are upset.

Yeah, I get pissed off when during a lag because if feels like I'm being cheated from a good time, the lag delays my input, it skips frames, some times even skips input. I'm most triggered by lame players who have less skill and resorts to normal throws to do majority damage, I lose my temper and fail trying to only tech their throws or punish them for it when I can just lame them back by running and baiting when I'm ahead. -_-
Also the lag makes me wonder if I even got any proper victories. I miss playing in the arcade instead of online. I calm myself by quiting and just watch the pros play instead.

I lose many rounds by damn lagged inputs. Pisses me off because I feel robbed of victories that should have been mine.

Hope it didn't hit you too hard and you are already on the tail end of it.
In battle lounge, what keeps me calm is reciting to myself every so often while playing that I am here to learn, have fun and that winning is just a bonus. But to be honest, I feel the pressure be a good player for the higher ranked person I'm playing, so that I can continue to play and learn from them.
In ranked, I try to remind myself that win or lose, what rank I end up at is my true skill level, so I shouldn't feel bad if I'm not where I want to be. But to be honest, losing points is stressful. I have to learn to push past that and not be afraid of ranked.

What a timely upload. I just started playing last week, and yesterday ended up looking into calming exercises and information on how to deal with the adrenaline rush/dump problem. Get out of my head! :-P

I appreciate this video on a real personal level my friend. I had 2 talk myself into not caring about winning & jus trying 2 cause as much havoc as I can wit my Mika. I used 2 legit have my heart start racing & my palms gettin sweaty when I played online cause I cared so much about winning & losing

Lag is annoying but if I miss a killing blow or whatever because of it I don’t mind I just think “did I make the right choice?” “Did I play good?” Then it’s fine.
One of my problems is when I have a big life lead and a single combo or even chip CA would do the job I can’t execute what I need on point. :/

"Sometimes if you are actually angry or nervous that can work out in your favour" it's so comical that you are releasing this video today, because this evening I got mad salty and started playing super yolo and got an eleven win streak ROTFL. But I disagree with this, always play calm! Also good luck with covid, I'm sure you'll be fine in no time.

Good topic. Interesting how being angry or nervous can help in rare cases. And how ranked is more likely to bring that out due to the stakes.
Thanks for the mention of ultra silver to gold. Trying to get from the former to the latter has taken so long, but I try to be level-headed.
Some dealing w/ego is fascinating. For lag & teabags, I don't get mad, but one-and-done>blacklist so I don't run into them again.
Breaks & staying hydrated is good advice. I wonder if some alcohol is good for loosening up sometimes (I've tried it). Nice vid!

Lag affects everyone, but not everyone is affected equaly. Due to the nature of SF netcode, the player with the better internet/PC gets punished. So when I play against PS4 Wifi warriors and they say everything is fine on their end, but I mess up combos due to lagspikes and get punished for it, that annoys me. I stopped lobbying with some people I kinda like, because their internet/machine sucks and the drawbacks are on me.
I really wished SF had good netcode. I keep coming back because I like the playstyle more than something like Strive.
And about highlevel players and ego: Yeah, lowlevel players have that too. Oh, Im ultrasilver and fight a basesilver. Easy win, right? Maybe, maybe not.
I had to lear to get my ego out of the way.

Mura, when I play, I took every game too seriously so I am worried about losing. As a result, I am always too focus on the gameplay, the opponent's move and forget about using V-trigger, EX bar, or store/use my stocks (I play Juri, which is not an easy character, and currently at 6000 points). This has been a very bad habit as my Juri never use V-trigger and seldom use her medium or heavy stock moves. Any suggestions?

  • @fatalradius
    @fatalradius 2 года назад +1

I agree with the break! If you lose, let the opponent celebrate the victory dance between rounds. Don't press buttons right away to skip to next round. Use those 5 seconds to think about a better tactic.

I made an alt account and that helped alot because I didn't have to worry about my rank anymore and it just lifted the pressure of ranked off my shoulders

Get well soon. Health comes first.
As far as staying calm goes, I agree with all your points. In an environment like SF5, whether it be dealing with online or ranked or in a tournament setting, and especially with the game emphasizing more commitment from the player, you do need those breaks between matches to clear your head. Going full tilt really derails your game alot. It's a matter of perspective for us as you suggested. In the end, it is but a game when you look at it, and most of us are not pro players anyways.

In SF6, my highest rank was Gold 5-Stars with Chun Li. This is the highest I’ve ever reached online, and the road to Platinum was close. Unfortunately, I went back to Gold 4-Stars. I kept losing alot because I had so much anxiety that it even affected my gameplay with other much easier characters like Ryu and Cammy.
But the biggest issue that caused my anxiety was the SF community. I joined SF groups on Facebook and received alot of negativity. One criticism was my usage of modern controls. Yes, I used modern controls because I got frustrated with classic and decided to go the easy route, don’t judge me. The fact is I felt ostracized by the community and had less support that it affected me so much because of the negativity snd expectations. I’ve taken a break from SF6, but I felt that the negativity really bothered me. Idk if I’ll ever make platinum, let alone back to Gold 5-Stars….
