For anyone wondering "wait isn't this a JoJo reference?" Fist of the North Star came out before JoJo and the rapid-fire fisticuffs you see in JoJo were inspired by Kenshiro's Hyakuretsu Ken. In other words, JoJo is a Fist of the North Star reference.
You are right! Hokuto no Ken, Dragon Ball and Kinnikuman are older than Jojos Funny thing is... Kenshiro's OG seiyuu (Akira Kamiya) also did the voice of Suguru Kinniku (Kinnikuman)
Well yeah, any JoJo fan with a brain understands this. At this point however, JoJo uses the consecutive punches + repeated “cry” so much that it’s practically the owner of it, hence why people are probably saying “wait isn’t this just a JoJo reference?” Hell, the last quarter of the video is all from All Star Battle R. In some of these games, characters are straight up saying “Ora Ora Ora, Dorarara, etc. Street Fighter Seth’s barrage is straight up directly from Dio, Skull Girls’s Peacock uses Road Roller, so on and so forth. These are all straight from JoJo. However, you’re right, we do gotta put some credit on our boy Kenshiro’s name no matter what. A lot of these are direct FoTNS as well.
"AH-TATATATATA!!" Respect to the OG, Kenshiro. Hokuto no Ken, Dragon Ball and Kinnikuman, the pillars/grandfathers of the shonen genre. They are older than Jojos. Fun fact. Kenshiro's original voice actor (Akira Kamiya) also did the voice of Suguru Kinniku (Kinnikuman)
Dragon ball came out before jojo's bizarre adventure but dragon ball z comes after jojo's first release so the iconic version of dragon ball came after Jojo, og dragon ball is great but the Saiyan saga is where things kicked off and the style changed to what we know now and it came after Jojo,in fact just a year after, so yea
No matter what SNK does most people will never appreciate them, the company brought a lot of mechanics and moves to the fighting game genre. It's because of f***n Americans that it's given the credit it deserves
Another neat FotNS reference is in Mortal Kombat Deception. One of Li Mei's fatalities is literally Hokuto Hyakuertsu Ken. The opponent even blows up afterwards
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was a favorite of mine, so seeing that as his Ultimate Final Smash is really cool. I can't forget Kenshiro, the original man, Dee Jay's from USFIV, Neco-Arc, Kung Lao's Brutality from MKX, Jonathan Joestar's Sunlight Yellow Overdrive.
6:16 Ah yes, Kim Dragon. Not only he was inspired by Bruce Lee (in fact, he came before Fei Long and Liu Kang) but also by Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken. Speaking of, in World Heroes there is a character called Zeus and he is just Raoh from HNK but blonde 😆 I would love to see some World Heroes characters in KOF XV
K-Dragon is definitely mi top tier favorite Bruce Lee character. He's 1 of the only few games that actually claims the original name of it's fighting style(Jeet Kune Do) & not simply calling it "martial arts"
The main take away of all of these "Hundred Crack Fists" types is that Ken does it best because he just doesn't punch you. He is hitting all of your vital points, whether its his fingertips or Knuckles.
man i didn't expect the NES version of TMNT Tournament Fighters to be included in this lol, I thought people forgot of that game (I still have fun with it sometimes esp. as either Casey or Shredder)
I'm surprised you didn't add Marilyn, Inazuma (although EN-Eins Anastasis is currently at the arcades), Little Mac, Ms. Fortune and Wolverine in Marvel vs. Capcom. But you did add Sonic Smackdown? That game reused animations from other games (mainly Fighting Games).
For Sett on Street Fighter V however was a intentional Jojo reference, since he got recycled moves from DIO from the game "heritage from the future" (he even do the "WRY" pose at the end) alongside Demitri moves from Darkstalker
Ukyo doesnt count because it's not a bare handed attack. For the same reason that Haohmaru's antiair is not technically a "shoryuken", because that literally means a jumping uppercut, so it must be done with bare hands to count. It's only called that way in community jargon for the sake of simplicity. In the community any jumping leg based antiairs are called shoryuken, like Cammy's or Adon's antiair.
@XiaoQuan You have done a marvelous job with this compilation but you forgot: Ryo Sakazaki from Art of Fighting & KoF series, Kung Lao from MK9 & MK10 and Vegeta from Dragonball FightersZ
The compilation could go longer if there was no limitation to two hands just to be closer to the HNK/Kenshiro reference. There is a decent number of fg chars who are referencing that HNK punch but only do with one hand... Ryo, Takuma, Marco, Ralf, Clark, Adon, etc.
So, I wanted to point out in Strive Chipp also has a very fast flurry of punches with one of the coolest finishers there are and very on brand. Kinda wish he was mentioned here.
These Rapid Punches in Fighting Games will never get Old.
Mostly in Japanese fighting games lol

A staple of HnK by inventing it anf becomes a very common thing in fighting games and anime i general. So glad to see such respect
Classic japanese fighting games in general have inspirations in classic animes, and HNK was a big one at that time.
