Who doesn't love a VR?!?!? As a former owner of multiple built VR's, some N.A., some F.I. they just NEVER get old. Great numbers on a stock internals motor. Sounds nice and rowdy just like a VR should. I had to connect my bluetooth speaker to hear the wookie in all its goodness. It's cool that the owner decided to put the 24v back in. So much cooler than an average 20th with a 1.8t. Glad he dumped the bags for some coilovers. The track> hardparking. Bunch of people have used the stock manifolds for a turbo, and it does work quite well. Throw a headspacer in there and you are good to go with limited work, and this build just proves that. This was a welcome video, and I throughly enjoyed it! Thank you. 👍👍

Interested to Know that the MAF location was to blame. I went standalone so I escaped that issue.

Dumb question but can the head spacer but cut from a 12valve vr6 to fit a 10 valve vr5? The vr5 community cuts everything from the vr6 to fit so was wondering if this is one of those cases

Man you guys literally saved me so much trouble from this video ! I have a 2002 silver gti 2.8l 24v vr6 turbo that I baught, and had the exact same problem !!! Every time I did a pull it stalls and at stops as well. Thank God for you guys ! It was annoying and also worried of what the problem was. The maf is also in a location just like that. The manifold is also stock on mine. I'm wondering if you did the job on my car. It was done years ago also would like to know if you did it ! Would love to know more about the stalling issue via MAF position. My VR6-T 4Motion almost stalls after heavy pulls. I have a 4" MAF housing... got any input on 'what' angle or position is ideal for the MAF? Thanks
It's got to do with MAF placement, too close to bends, too close to filter, too close to DV recirc, too close to turbo, major reduction in piping size before/after filter. It can be lots of things. Buy a couple different couplers and test whatever's suspect.

Better get one before they get too old. They're generally durable, but still a dying breed more and more.
Best bet is the Mk3 or Mk4 or go straight for an R32. I had a Mk4 GLI VR6 and now in a Mk5 R32, I love the sound and the power delivery.

It's more expensive to make power on a 2l then just swapping in a 1.8t.
They only make around 150bhp. Bang for buck sucks on the 2slow.
Better to drop in a stock 1.8t and filter/exhaust/remap. Cheaper and more power.

Certainly can but likely not worth the cost vs just using the existing manifolds on the market. Us and plenty of others have made good power on them.

A lot of things dictate compression, but I'd say you have a 8.5:1 spacer.
