    One thing I forgot to mention in the video: You may have more success keeping all-male groups. They tend to be less territorial than the females in my experience, and without a female to compete over, they might get along better. Still no guarantees, and since darts are usually sold unsexed, often requires some rehoming/trading with other keepers as they mature to end up with all males, but it is something to consider.

    Awesome Timelapse!! I love how the spring tails disperse… and how the 3 cruise around.. I’m thinking of getting this exact species as my first dart frogs😀

    Thank you for this video, I have been trying to decide if I wanted to try keeping a trio in my Vivarium or not, this question has now been answered.

    Great video! I have kept a trio of female azureus for the last 2+ years, no fighting at all, they seem to like hanging out together. I'm adding a male soon. I have a feeling that tensions are going to rise in the terrarium once the male is added but hopefully everything stays copasetic between the ladies. They really are a sweet group. I'm considering just getting a separate pair and keeping the 3 girls together since it's been going so well for 2 years now, it almost wouldn't be fair to let a man ruin that for them haha jk

    Awesome video! My two azureus are approaching sexual maturity so I’ve been keeping a close on on them. I also heard one of my leucs call for the first time ever today! I wasn’t quick enough to see who it was but I’m super excited.

    Excellent footage of the toe-tapping ! Could be Morse code? :-) It would be interesting to record that with a high-frequency microphone. Somehow displayed graphically, it could show some repetitions of tapping. Maybe repeated signals would appear. Could be a type of language?

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  3 года назад +1

      Yeah I've heard speculation that the toe tapping could be a form of communication between the frogs, but as far as I know no one's found any actual evidence for that yet... Who knows though, it would certainly be interesting to analyze it more closely to see if there are any particular patterns to it!

      @@NorthernFrogger Maybe some PhD candidate will take that on for their dissertation. :-) I hope to get some Tinctorius. I need to make sure I can grow fruit flies first. (without infestation of some kind or other.)

    Josh's frogs recommends trying the dwarf species for groups but not guaranteeing it. Do you think there is a difference for the dwarfs?

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  4 года назад +1

      I've heard that too, and it makes sense to me, but I've never kept any dwarf tincs myself, so I can't really say. I've been considering trying a group of Oyapoks for my next frogs, so I'll definitely let you guys know how that goes if I try it.

    I had 3 powder blues got from very small froglets, grew up all together had them in a 2ft x 3 ft x1.5 exo no issues whatsoever even feeding time. So thought i would give them more space by putting all 3 (weren't sure at the time but turned out to be 3 females) into a 3ft x 3ft x1.5 ft exo within an hour they were fighting like mad, so took one out then the other 2 started fighting. So deffo not group frogs in my opinion

    I'm just getting into the hobby... I bought a 24x18x18 exo terra. If everyone sells froglets, should I buy 3 or 4 and then after time separate them and leave a pair since froglets aren't known if they are Male or Female?

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  4 года назад +1

      Yes, exactly. They tend to get along just fine as juveniles, so you can buy a group to start, and then just plan to rehome some of them if they start to fight when they reach maturity. And you might always get lucky and get a group that gets along!

    Look at 5:26 they use their toe to make some noise?

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  3 года назад

      Yeah they will often do that "toe-tapping" behavior while feeding. As far as I know, no one really knows for sure what the purpose is, but it's probably a way to attract insects or possibly flush them out of hiding.
