i have a totally different opinion on security... i carry ar15, ar10 and 9mil handguns... don't declare shit... when you get someplace you put hot sauce and hot pepper all over your boat so if there is a dog it will never be able to find your stash... if i was tried to be boarded i will kill them all and sink their boat... then there would be less pirates and jerk offs... just sayin.... yeah lock everything up but never ever trust bear spray, flare or spear guns.... use real bullets and KILL THEM
Can you have a crossbow? You can use it to shoot the pirates with and for fishing? I am bringing one and a Black powder cap and ball pistol. For $300 I can throw it overboard if the stupid pigs come to inspect my boat. But I plan to hunt pirates in international waters so there are no laws to worry about. I will video it and send it to their families if they have ID's on them. That should solve the problem after a few of them are shown headshot, gutted, and fed to the sharks. The videos will go viral I'm sure. LOL. Great times ahead.

Pete, a floodlight at the top of the mast pointing down to the stern/cockpit area is ideal for any safety and security , but the best and cheapest option for night time attacks is a torch of about 2,000 plus lumens with a strobe light function @ a cost between AUD50-130. I have had a motorhome for the last 10 years and I had a guy nosing around it around 2 am--I have a purpose-built caged trailer with a KLR650 adventure motorcycle in it, fishing gear, a malibu and a wave ski, and a kayak on top all of which attracts a lot of attention wherever I go--and once I located where he was outside from inside the motorhome, I stepped outside and turned the strobe light on and he was totally incapacitated. All he could do was run away. He never even got to feel my kendo sword across his noggin! For day time boardings, whether you are present or absent, is 'noise'! A recorder, a loudspeaker, a trip mechanism and switch all of which @12v is relatively inexpensive. Get a 'Margharida Fidelity and Security Fund' going and I am sure that a lot of us will kick the can to help out. Cheers, mate.

I spend a lot of time in remote areas, either inland or on the coast, and either attached or separated from the motorhome, so for me it's all about raising any potential third part predator's risk awareness.
I love this channel so much, it's the complete polar opposite of another channel I've been watching where they've had their boat in a yard for a year installing the very best technology available. You guys just get on with it ,you're clearly broke but somehow how getting by. It's become the highlight of my week. Good luck!

Talking of security I was boarded at night in the harbour in Bridgetown, Barbados. I jumped out of bed made a hell of a lot of loud threatening sounds and reached for the flare gun. He flew off the boat pretty quickly. You can't be passive.
You guys are doing GREAT-- reminds me of the early days of "Sailing Uma" they got and old beater and worked non stop- growing their channel and sponsors which turned their boat into a modern cruiser, with all solar including electric sail drive. SO light on the horizon keep up the value added work - from my comphy chair Bill.
Let. Dan, have you seen the videos from when they got the current boat? There's some great videos of the work they did then too including the rigging that is well worth watching.

Someone may have already mentioned this but you need to play the snarl of a big dog on your stereo. Set it to start when your radar pick up a close range contact. If you think contact is imminent and have two stereos, play some Dead Kennedy’s ‘See how we ride as loud’ as loud you can over the dog snarls. Works for me - at least it did once. Also first impressions are golden so make sure they know you are set crazy- margaritas lipstick should do the trick.

Agreed, nothing is 100% thief proof and if they really want to get in, they will. The best approach is to create several layers of defense to become a hardened target that raises the risk/reward and makes your boat too much effort for typical night gremlins. Locks, bars, bear spray, flare guns, spear guns, and a dive knife are typically legal to carry everywhere and are often just as effective as a firearm on a boat. We are in the middle of home repairs and painting right now. No job ever goes exactly according to plan. Improvise, adapt, and overcome.

Someone may have already mentioned this but you need to play the snarl of a big dog on your stereo. Set it to start when your radar pick up a close range contact. If you think contact is imminent and have two stereos, play some Dead Kennedy’s ‘See how we ride as loud’ as loud you can over the dog snarls. Works for me - at least it did once. Also first impressions are golden so make sure they know you are set crazy- margaritas lipstick should do the trick.

@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM AND the paper work-- just watch some of the land cruisers like "Kombi Life" and 'Trent n Allie" the poor dog gets new shots at every border. Maybe a loud recording of a police dog eating somebody - or better yet the noise of "Trunk Monkey" (you gotta google that one!) getting it on.

You can get urothane rubber in two pack and different hardness which may work on the prop to replace the damaged rubber bushing.

Agreed, nothing is 100% thief proof and if they really want to get in, they will. The best approach is to create several layers of defense to become a hardened target that raises the risk/reward and makes your boat too much effort for typical night gremlins. Locks, bars, bear spray, flare guns, spear guns, and a dive knife are typically legal to carry everywhere and are often just as effective as a firearm on a boat.
We are in the middle of home repairs and painting right now. No job ever goes exactly according to plan. Improvise, adapt, and overcome.
Margarida can be harsh with language too...I would prefer bear spray sometimes I am sure
