He could tell Lightning was cracking under the pressure and cut the situation short by pretending to be bored and thus pushing them to get the fight over with. Then afterwards he lets Lighting and Snow have their moment and then rather than having an awkward bit of banter, he lets Lighting get her thanks out and moves on. Well played Mr. Leonheart. He was badly translated in English. "Whatever" was not something he ever really said in Japanese (and he doesn't do it in the European translations either - he's usually meant to be giving a dismissive "uh-huh..." or responding to clarification with "my bad.") It comes across especially in the way the "Whatever" is so sloppily incorporated into that line at the end: you can just tell it was only done in the English dub because they knew the audience expected it. The way he's behaving here is the way he was always supposed to be in the first place.

Well, we only had that Squall-Rinoa moment in Opera Omnia, I guess that's something. But really I would have wanted to see the interaction here, and also scenes with Tifa, Ardyn and Gabranth.
Yeah Squall acts all calm and collected and cool and uncaring. The next cutscene I expect puts him and Rinoa in together. Let’s see how he is then. Guy would melt faster than ice cream in a preheated oven.
I was really hoping for more story cutscenes. Particularly one where Rinoa finally catches up with Squall and everyone is stunned by the dynamic contrast between the two. Or she catches him acting aloof again and gives him hell for it.

Noctis was clearly called from a time before he went to Altissia, as made clear by his personality and the fact that he doesn't have access to the Ring of the Lucii or his more powerful version of the Armiger. It really doesn't have to make sense: a character can be called from whatever time the gods want.

I was all for LR Snow as I loved his development in it. But this cutscene didn't touch on anything about that, the conflict, Snow wanting to atone for his mistakes, blaming himself for the lost of Sarah, asking Lightning to end him for the monster he's become. It felt like they didn't know what to do with him... Kind of sad, I was expecting a little more from this. Oh well, at least we got to see Lighting/Squall do something ~
You know I was wondering if they were going to bring up the fact that Snow goes berserk cie’th. Like imagine the conflict Lightning would have if it was Spiritus’ power that kept him on the brink. Sending him back home would be more a curse than blessing as when he goes berserk there there’s no going back. Would make for an interesting development, but I guess Dissidia isn’t good enough for that.
These cutscenes really showed that choosing Snow to be on Spiritus’ side was pointless. While I did want Cid Raines, I would have even preferred Caius, since he was an actual villain! Ugh, I know we have characters like Kuja and Jecht, who aren’t “evil” anymore, since NT is after everyone’s journey, but the game needs more villains who are actually evil. Smh
Don’t forget Golbez isn’t evil anymore either! NT doesn’t take place after everyone’s journey, Cecil, Bartz, Terra, Lightning, and Noctis and probably a few more are still going through their game’s story during NT. I’d say WoL, Cloud, Zidane, and Tidus are done with their game stories though
Too bad Caius is too damn strong for this game and is literally unkillable. Plus, storywise, it'd just *never* hapoen. These gods could 'try' summoning him, but it just wouldn't work... unless they pulled s version of him from the past before Yeul made him broken OP. And even then... still literally unkillable and destroyed an entire world, past present, and future.
That's not how it works: the Cloud of Darkness is an incarnation of the Void itself, which also cannot be completely killed, yet it still was summoned by both Chaos and Spiritus. Caius would be no different. How do I know? He was summoned by Spiritus in Opera Omnia.
No matter what I see squall in here He always give me that 'this is the battlefield' vibe without questioning every champions thoughts and feel even lightning and snow.

Well for the story, it's because he and Lightning appeared here during the events of Lightning Returns. For the game, he represents the antagonist of Lightning Returns. He just also happens to be the only XIII antagonist at the moment.
@LP 13 A paradox, maybe? She remembers everything in the dissidia timeline and that must have mellowed her down despite the events of XIII-3. If sh's really emotionless at that point, then she wouldn't be too chummy with Terra and Y'shtola with their cutscene

Don’t forget Golbez isn’t evil anymore either! NT doesn’t take place after everyone’s journey, Cecil, Bartz, Terra, Lightning, and Noctis and probably a few more are still going through their game’s story during NT. I’d say WoL, Cloud, Zidane, and Tidus are done with their game stories though

These gods could 'try' summoning him, but it just wouldn't work... unless they pulled s version of him from the past before Yeul made him broken OP. And even then... still literally unkillable and destroyed an entire world, past present, and future.
That's not how it works: the Cloud of Darkness is an incarnation of the Void itself, which also cannot be completely killed, yet it still was summoned by both Chaos and Spiritus.
Caius would be no different. How do I know? He was summoned by Spiritus in Opera Omnia.

He always give me that 'this is the battlefield' vibe without questioning every champions thoughts and feel even lightning and snow.
This helped me see that Lightning isn't always moody. That's nice.

@@OdirilSmallfish Yes, the Valkyrie/Knight of the Goddess look was fantastic. OG XIII was good, but not perfect, and LR looked like a crude imitation of the OG XIII mixed in with some edgy divinity, which kinda makes sense since LR Lightning wasn't really whole then.

Lightning also knows what it's like to be just like Squall. And what it's like to deal with teenage brats who reflect her own angst (Hope). I don't think she could ever be as hard on him as she was with Snow. I do see her schooling the likes of Vaan or Tidus though. Well for the story, it's because he and Lightning appeared here during the events of Lightning Returns.
For the game, he represents the antagonist of Lightning Returns. He just also happens to be the only XIII antagonist at the moment.
