  • The Razer Viper Mini is probably the best Razer gaming mouse but guess what? The Viper Mini has been discontinued. In its place is the Razer Cobra and I'm really not OK with that. Let's talk about what this means.

I don't understand why Razer can't simply release a Viper Mini with updated internals and slight weight reduction for $59 and $79 wired/wireless. Literally no one asked for the cobra.

so they can bundled the thing you really want like a wireless Viper mini with a lot of stuff that you don't need like wireless charging, all around RGB etc to have a higher price
i think it is all just a business move to push loyal fans of the Viper mini on to a more expansive product and only release the good stuff that have actual mass market potential after the sell slow down, this is a classic move and companies do this all the time for well like product.
so my guess is that sometime in the future razer will give us a wireless cobra that don't have all the fancy stuff for a lot cheaper

Long story short, I've used Viper Mini for 1.5 years. Sold it, prices went up. I recently wanted to buy one as I miss it so much. I was performing with the Viper Mini the best in Valorant (immo 3). Now, it's discountinued and I've felt so sad that I couldn't buy one anywhere and there it was, one store in the whole country with 3 pieces. I immediately went and picked one up. I may regret to not pick up two actually. As I've tried the Cobra (wired) and it's AWFUL. They did kill the Viper Mini. ALL THE COMMUNITY wanted a WIRELESS VIPER MINI. Then Razer comes and say, nah... We don't want that. Well, let's see who is going to end the upcoming years with worse profit than before. DAV3 / DAV3 Pro is also a failure, nobody buys it, and those who buy it sells it. Pros are turning away from them as well. The Cobra is a failure too. You had one HUUUUGE chance Razer.. You blew it.

Its very simple, if they just continue the mini line, since its a budget mouse, they cant really charge high price for the wireless version, mos5 they can do is probably 80 to 90 dollars since its basically the same design, but with a new name, they can just claim its a new series and charge 120 to 150 dollars or even more for limited edition

i think it might have been because they couldn’t find a right price for the viper mini wireless, if they charged it at like 80 bucks with the same spec and connectivity as the v2 pro maybe the pro would sell and everyone would buy mini, but if they charged like 120-140 people would complain that the reason why the original mini was good because of the price and now it’s too expensive. i think they should’ve launched the mini wireless at 100

All they had to do is make two versions of some popular shapes: Pro for low weight, no dock, no rgb. And Ultimate for medium weight, dock support and lots of RGB.
Another odd thing is that Cobra/Viper mini shape is definitely loved by performance focused players, so it’s a big miss. What would make more sense is to make Viper V2 Ultimate, with basically all the features of Cobra Pro, but it would also cause no backlash, since performance focused players already have an option to get Viper V2 Pro if they like that shape.

I think the reasoning behind Razer creating the Cobra product line instead of renaming to Viper Mini V2 pro or whatever was the introduction of the Viper V3 Hyperspeed. The V3 clearly is done with the form factor that the Viper Ultimate or the Viper V2 Pro has, and is trying to mimic the Logitech G Pro X form factor (since the superlight version saw better sales than the V2 Pro). So now, since the Viper line is going to a more GPX-like form factor from now on, Razer is mantaining the old Viper form factor through the Cobra line. It makes sense when you look at it this way.

Although I won't choose small mouse at all, the cobra reminds me few years ago what razer is doing, that is focus on rgb and some fancy stuff but not the performance, but logitech instead focus on the raw performance of the mouse, they just change back to what they used to....... I am a big fan of razer, but if they are going to this direction, it won't be good for them in long term:(

The charging dock and extra RGB look nice for Doom and Diablo and casual stuff tbh.
I think those features are enough to justify giving the Cobra Pro it's name, but the wired Cobra should've just been called the Viper Mini V2.
As for splitting products into immersive / performance lines, I think maybe shopping for them would be more straightforward if the performance lines were done by a "spin off" company - sort of like how Lian Li has SSUPD.

They still use a tactile switch for middle button. No wonder many of us have problems after months of use. Many cheap mice use proper switches for the 3 main buttons, but Razer decided to save up on that. Or maybe planned obsolescence.

  • @profosist
    @profosist Год назад

You say Razer hasn't done this before but they have. The Mamba was the more feature rich wireless version of the Deathadder. Also normally any shape changes were tried on the Mamba first since it was more niche and would upset less of the market.
Everyone also says it's the same. The shape might be similar but the ergonomics and angles are different and different than the Viper. I think things like the more flat sides better suit the smaller shape.
Pro vs Chroma is what it used to be. Then they had the cheap wireless with the X hyperspeed. Even lower than that was old versions of mi e with the essential line.

I have a theory that the reason razer made the Cobra the way that it is, is because their Viper Mini SE would not sell as well if they released a lightweight plastic version of the viper mini because most ppl would just buy the plastic version. So they are in a way forcing ppl to buy viper mini SE because it's the only lightweight wireless viper mini that exists. I hope I'm wrong.

Not necessarily related to Razer (I don't think they have ever attempted a genuine non-"e-sports" mouse in their existence), but I'm still waiting for someone to make a hefty, solidly built mouse without a billion holes punctured into it. I've got a Corsair Ironclaw, and whilst it's alright feature-wise, it's still designed for smaller hands; if I want to lay my hand flat on the mouse, two fingers (not counting my thumb) overhang the sides, meaning I either perpetually claw grip the mouse, or have to hover my pinky and other finger in the air awkwardly. Not to mention that the rubber grip just completely evaporated under those conditions.
I wish the mouse industry would just throw me one bone that isn't the damn MadCatz thing that looks like someone glued plastic panels and knobs to a roll cage. Just, one good, big mouse, made of materials that would last more than a blink, that I can palm comfortably. Yet, the more mouse videos I see across the tech space, it seems like people won't be satisfied until they get 1 gram mice made of magnesium fly mesh with 7 trillion dpi, that's Bluetooth exclusively.
Keyboards figured it out, how hard is it for mice to catch up?

Both my Tartarus V2 & my Basilisk V2 have scroll wheels that not scroll radically up and down when going one direction. :( And yes, what Razer is up to here with these mice is very weird. I really do understand what the team at razer were thinking. another complaint people also have is the weight but i bet if a viper mini pro was released it would be the same as the cobra anyway. The cobra line may as well be a mini viper line where its basicly the viper but yk mini. If im being honest I just want a cobra x hyperspeed that w9uld be insane especially with how increadible the basilisk v3 x hyperspeed is.

Whilst I agree this is a confusing nice, I disagree in the lack of a need for the cobra line. At 2:03-2:09 you said it yourself accidentally, you know the mainline mice but you don’t know the other names a line might have because there’s a lot of variations, they’re already saturated enough. I’ve said it before, I’m not buying this mouse, but I’m very interested in the cobra line, they do need to differentiate it more by adding a button or two more on the side and cut down on rgb and weight. The regular cobra I had no idea it existed and I do agree moving one product to a new name is confusing and unnecessary. They could have managed the cobra line so much better, and I am losing hope that they’ll make it work.
And as I responded to another person in your last cobra video about the “dlc’s.” Whilst I agree it sucks that there are add-ons sold separately, the revamped line of razer mice have done the same thing, the v2 dock is a separate sale from all the compatible mice, just like the v1 dock and the 8k wireless adapter as well, you can/could get them in a combo with compatible mice.
I’ll be sticking with my orochi v2, but I’m hoping razer get their stuff together for the cobra line, hoping this is the only blunder of this type.

Disagree with this review entirely, because I have actually used it with puck removed at 74 grams weight and it's an amazing mouse. People are just on the ultra lightweight fad like they can't compete without it feeling like a broken piece off the bumper of a Prius, yet pros are still using 108g mice with way worst tech and still miles above them casuals crying. It's a great mouse, and it's feature packed. The complaints are invalid. We get it, those complaining want a fkn poptart box for a mouse, but be realistic, this is just the start of the cobra line, to get away from the "mini" series. It's a great mouse, I've reviewed it, if it just wasn't so small for my grip style I would have mained it. Everyone that's tried it and has somewhat common sense and a brain has liked it. The hates unjustified. It's literally a smaller viper ultimate with better tech and aesthetics, if you don't want that since you need to cope with the failure realization of "I need to be competitive durururur" then wait for the Mini SE or Cobra V2 and stfu. All these negative review bombs are a minor amount of the actual audience with common sense, they are the ones who understand and bought it. Need a real review look me up and thank me later

I don't have an issue with them offering something heavier with a bunch of rgb. I'm sure a bunch of best buy execs said they needed something gamer-y to sell to parents buying something for their kids. The issue I have is that Razer promised a viper mini pro and thought that this would fill that need. I was ready to make an unnecessary purchase if they had a reasonably priced viper mini pro (~200 cad) but there's no way I'm spending $400 cad on a viper mini se.
