I saw her at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2004 and the next year I went to London for 3 days in the middle of a trip to Belgium. While in London, I went to a small jazz bar. There was a band playing and they recieved a note that someone wanted to sing a song with them. The band didn't seems to like the request but another note came from the bar manager so they acepted. I was at the first table beside the little stage and I saw her come by to sing. Nobody seemed to know her back then, her fisrt CD was out but not well known yet I guess. So they agreed for one song and it was Sumertime. Great song, great memories. After the song I went to her table to thank her and tell her that I loved her show in Montreal.
wow la chance... incroyable . merci d'avoir partagé ce souvenir !
How was her??? I envy you so muuuuch
I didn't talk to her long, just thanked her for the song and told her that I saw her in Montreal and loved the show. She seamed pleased that I recognized her and said thanks but that's all. She was whit her husband (I guess) and I didn't want to bother them. I was also on my way out since I had to take the bullet train early in the morning to go back to Brussels. Edit: "Wicked Fucking Winehouse Birtch XX" comented that she was not married at the time, so not her husband after all.
Sylvain Dupuis wow what a privilege ! You carry these Amy amazing amymamzing memories with you!

Do you remember the first time you heard Amy Winehouse?
that feeling that you can't hear anything anymore, because your ears touched the sky for a moment and everything else is just...
that deep, intoxicating voice scares me to this day. Some people are born with a star, Amy was certainly one of them.
Happy 40th birthday, Amy

This was so beautiful. I couldn't agree more. Thank you ❤❤❤
Yep. NPR was reviewing her album Back to Black. I heard 'My Tears Dry on their Own' and was hooked instantly.
Okay this confirms that I don’t like Jazz nor does Amy’s singing do anything for me. To each their own I guess.
Yes, I was a 17 year old kid in Germany for a school break and out of the country for the second time that year. I’m from Mississippi. I was constantly hearing German, which I didn’t speak well yet, and I really clung to the radio because a lot of songs were in English of course. I remember riding in a car with my boyfriend at the time, and Rehab came on. (Not even my fave song of hers), but THAT VOICE. It took my breath away. I’d never heard anything like it. Still haven’t. I was so blown away when I looked her up to see this tiny little gorgeous lady with big hair and an even bigger voice. I was hooked. This was 2006. I miss her daily. Her music grew me. Her confidence rubbed off on me, and I so needed it at that age (and still). Love you always, Amy Jade. 💕⚓️🎶🪽
I know this is about Amy, but props to the guitar player. He did a great job!
Wow. He was beyond stellar. This was the first LP I bought. As a 9 year old I went to the iconic Canadian store Sam The Record Man and told the man I wanted the Beatles album with "Close your eyes and I'll kiss you". I had NO idea of the title. He delivered. So did Amy and the guitarist. Fantastic.
Not sure if I've ever heard a worse guitar take of a Beatles tune, but hey it takes all kinds I guess.Any first year college jazz guitar student could have as well or better playing generic "jazz chords".

Amy would be the only one who can take a Beatles song and reinvent it. And she never had to push herself. She was the most natural singer, with natural instincts for creativity and unique expression. She's actually beyond adequate description. She now belongs to a page in time and all we can do is listen to her songs while missing her. Viva Amy Winehouse!!
She's a generational talent. Let's give it up for the guitarist here too. Great accompaniment.

„still love you Amy!❤“
I just started crying listening to this with my boyfriend…trying to explain to him why was difficult…it’s just so incredibly rare to see someone so enormously blessed and talented it is genuinely just such a gift to be able to witness something so magical. I feel like we often overlook how lucky we are to have art in our world.
Art that helps us understand our own lives and give it meaning! Art that inspires us to look beyond what are the horizons we assumed to be fixed.
Beautifully said!! ❤
As a Jew, when people pass, instead of saying "rest in peace," we say "may their memory be for a blessing." Every single time I revisit my favorite Amy performances, I truly understand the meaning of that sentiment What a blessing she was and will always be.
Thank you 🙏🏻
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
❤️
Thanks, I'll remember this🙏
nice sentiment
This cover is virtually a different song, in a different dimension- it’s a masterpiece. How could someone possibly get it this right?
Agree 100%
Only Amy could! She breathed a new soul into what was already a classic! Truly missed! I still enjoy the masterpieces she created!
Absolutely brilliant!
Bc she was Amy and she was magical
@@fourthmusketeer221 She was captivating, she drew me into her song every word had meaning and told about her struggle. So yes to me she was magical.
Amy was definitely an old soul and you could hear it in her voice. She will always be a treasure.
yes, needs an ancient (old -french)soul to spot an old soul, you are absolutely right, she does🙏
She's dead. Drug abuse.
@@ClepsidraSideral This cote is absolutely inutile.
Amy was a soecial being and he sensibility was to high for this world.
Nah. Not an old soul.
An old soul does not go out the way she did. In fact, I think of her as exactly the opposite. She must have been a newborn soul, with not many times on the wheel under her belt.
This is not to take away from the talent she expressed, because clearly this time she was blessed. It's only to say an aspect of old soul is an understanding, a way of comporting yourself, she clearly lacked.
And I don't mean this as a criticism of her. We're all on that same path, aren't we? So I place no judgement on how she lived her stretch of time. It's just unfortunate she went out so young. We'll never know what she might have become.
So it goes..
Souls aren't real, old or otherwise. Was a good singer though... tragic end.
I love how the guitarist is truly vibin✨totally understandable though, she’s absolutely amazing✨

Listen to Stacey Ryan... she's the next one. Brilliant singer...
I'm a Beatles fan and I dont say it often but this is a nice cover. I like it when artists do a song differently and not just copy a song
I'm the opposite. It seems like celebrities will take advantage of the name and popularity of a song and change it up just to impose their preference of music, the instrumentation, runs, riffs, all displayed on an already known creation which people go to see, largely, if not entirely because of the title of the cover.
It's not "copying" a song, it's faithful tribute. It doesn't take much to sing someone else's song in your own usual, comfortable style. While there is some validity to not wanting to keep things replicated exactly, too many liberties get tiresome and annoying to put up with. It's as if the point of doing the cover is thrown out the window and all but the lyrics remain.
It is not so difficult to make it sound better than the Beatles coz they were top composers but average players
@@vinobody This doesnt sound "better" than the Beatles its just a different arrangement. It's not the way Paul McCartney and George Martin wanted it to sound. It's nothing to do with playing ability.
@@limitededition1053 I was talking in general...I 'm far from being an Amy fan...What I mean is some artist can make some Beatles song more appealing than their original coz the song structure matters more than the Beatles rendition .
But there are some bands who can't be covered without losing the spirit .For example, any Doors cover is a disapointment coz the interest is not in the song composition but in the feeling Morrison was giving into it...
I agree, an old song completely changed becomes gold once more.
If you're watching this in 2021, I love you and you're not alone !

What a thoughtful thing to say. It seems our world is so isolated and self absorbed…. Thank you for your kindness.
Why was she singing so chill with that strong voice? Naturetalent!
It’s so nice to see her so healthy and clean. I love this kiddo.
The fact the she is amazing is clear and worldwide known so please just stop for a second to appreciate the guy on the guitar that made an incredible jazzy arrangement!
Any guitarist could have played that and we have no way of knowing who arranged, however no one else could be Amy W.
Any guitarist could have played that. Yeah for sure. You're one funny fellow.
Any serious session guitarist...Carls is right. You have to play good to play with an amazing singer like Amy Winehouse. Im not saying he is not talented...just not special...
Bullshit. Even a Eric Clapton would have played like that on this song without any solos and just a few licks. If you want to find out, if someone's "special", you would have to listen his solo-work, something he composed or plays a far more present role. Then you could say something about versatility,
inventiveness and style. From this little song you can see that he has his own style and knows how to communicate perfectly with a singer.
I'm sure he's good, but this is not an outstanding arrangement. It's simply good
One of the few TRULY original Beatles covers. She imbued this version with her own unique style and heart and made it completely hers. What a great jazz singer she was. I miss her and her beautiful, soulful voice so much. RIP Amy, gone ten years this August, always remembered with love.

This performance just gave me goosebumps. Such an emotional vocalist.
I always love the way that how she reinterpreted a song. She made every song so Amy.
Absolutely a once-in-a-generation voice. She had all the elements to be unforgettable - technique, an unmistakable quality to her voice, and the ability to sing from a place of such unimaginable passion. Ugh, I will miss her forever.
She is unforgettable..❣️
And the willingness to try many different genres of music and take risks breaking the mold. She usually succeeded!
Wasn’t here for long, but she made a huge impression on the music scene. Lover her.
But we’ve got Trap now :-|
Because people were here and still needed to have a living idol. Otherwise Amy was not such a great talent.
Amy Winehouse was one of a kind and always owned the interpretations of her covers, but let us not overlook the exceptional accompaniment she received from that incredible nylon string guitar player !!!
Missing her a lot today and sending all my lovin' to her soul that has taken flight.
The guitar player is amazing!
Damn right
Completely.
Yeah. Give him a solo. Singers always skip that!
Yeah, I was actually focused on him. She's great if course too.

A life lost way, way too soon . This young woman had a uniquely mesmerizing voice, it’s truly a shame we won’t ever know where that voice would had taken her with time .
I didn't even recognize the song at first. She completely transformed it and made it into a new and different song; brilliant!
Paul’s composition, Bossa Nova’s Guitar style with a perfect Jazzy Vocal. Perfect
Wow at staying on pitch through all those jazzy chord changes. Incredible voice!
I agree. I love Amy and the Beatles, and while I don't think this was especially brilliant as an interpretation, her technical skill is incredible. I kept waiting for her to lose her place among the jazz chords, or to go off-key in her melismas. She never did.
Perfectionist that delivers!!!! I LOVE Amy!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
A magically blend of voice and guitar. Brilliant.
Wonderful version. I've never heard Amy perform a song the same way twice. A unique, phenomenal talent that will always be remembered ☮
Absolute legend. Sometimes the universe just points and says "You."
I love this.
Brian, are you the Messiah, or just a very naughty boy
That's a good way to put it (I mean about the universe pointing). The universe really does not care about any human achievement OR folly but humans love the poetry they themselves have created & Brian's comment is very poetic
There's another budding jazz singer who is rising named Angelina Jordan. She's wanted to be the next Winehouse and will very well be that and more. Check her out on You Tube : ruclips.net/p/PLAKYFrluJhf8xJewRlEfDUpMXzk6JwX8A
Brian Reilly yea but she overdosed...so how is that the universe pointing at her?
With tears on my face. All my Loving to You, Amy.
Young talent once again wasted...
@@PillsBuryDoughBoy_ That was the problem. She was always wasted. I think it's sad that she died but I still don't care for her vocal style. I like a singer who can sing normally without acting as if they have swallowed an autotune machine. I don't like any of the women who do all of that left/right/high/low vocal bullshit. Maybe once in a song but to do it all the time seems to show a lack of confidence in your own voice. Does she EVER sing without that vocal affectation? I can't take anyone who sings this way seriously.
Someone needed to tell her that she is not a black American woman. Be yourself.
@@jaxflfreebird I so agree. Thank you.
@@daledillard3281 I think that vocal style is bullshit even when black women do it. It's just a gimmick. My own mother adopted some sort of vocal operatic style that she picked up from somewhere. She even used to sing by herself in front of the church. I always thought that vocal style of hers was just nauseating and I made fun of her singing that way all of my life. I finally figured out what I was talking about much later. There is a person's natural voice and talent and then there is people imitating other people.
It makes me so happy watching her views go up by the millions in all her music 😢 wish she knew just how many ppl needed to discover her to show her how many ppl love her 😩 😖

I met Amy in 2003, the year before this was shot. Her debut album had literally just dropped, so it must have been the Autumn of that year. I had my shiny new 3rd-generation iPod, and was bumping "Stronger Than Me" (still my favourite), which I'd ripped off Limewire. Hardly anybody had them then, and nobody knew Amy at all. I'd heard rumours about this amazing singer; she was doing a promo tour of little bars around the country. She stood there, this tiny thing with a white guitar in front of the audience - no more than 20 people. I was totally skeptical - until she opened her mouth. She shocked everybody into silence; her performance was incredible. When it was over, I went outside and she was sat at a table alone, having a smoke. "I stole your music online. Can I buy you a beer to make up for it?" She laughed. I sat down, and we had a nice chat for good few minutes. I can barely remember what we talked about now, but I made a move and asked for her number - she carried a little silver phone; so damned pretty and easy company, I was determined to seize my chance and ask her out for a little lightweight date to show her around the city - Manchester can be mad fun - and meet my friends. "Ah! I can't. I'm off on the tour bus tonight." She was going to Edinburgh - or was it London? I'm so happy to have been an early fan, and spent time in her company. It all got lost with the drugs, mayhem, and that pr*ck she married - who introduced her to addiction. I do sometimes wonder, in my dreamy alternative-universe way, if I could have saved her. A short life was her fate, and we must celebrate sharing her time, and her sharing ours. I miss you Amy. We all do.

Cliff, there are plenty of British singers that I've listened to that I couldn't tell were from the UK. Elton John, Keith Richards, Rod Stewart, all of which I couldn't hear their accent in their music. The accent gets diluted when people sing, especially when there is loud music surrounding the vocals.
I love her too, really I'm amazed by her voice, and also by the person she was, but franckly I must confess I don't like this interpretation of this song. she vocalizes too much, it adds nothing to the song, which melody needs the purity and simplicity of singing Paul gave it.
