Crazy timing for this video to drop. I recently cut apart a purchased "production" load to reverse engineer. Discovered in a rolled 3 inch Cheddite, a 48'ish gn. charge of LG, 2 3/4 TPS grey 4 slit. 1 3/8oz (596gn not full 601) of payload. Used some of these production loads this duck season that my buddy bought and really liked them. But in no way do I want to pay what they were charging for em. Sorry about the long ramble, just to dang perfect of timing.
Awesome guys thanks. Been trying to figure out how to get this exact load to work in a 3" for next duck season. Love my #3's and now have to dig threw my powders and find lil'gun. Please keep up the great videos and keep up the #3 steel loads and any coyote loads you may have. Been binge watching BRO's channel for coyote loads for these pesky Alaska predators. Thanks again
Hey, that Lil' Gun is one of the best powders for reloading the .450 Bushmaster cartridge, too! It does need a hot primer, though. In the .450BM I use a Remmy #7-1/2 Small RIfle BR.
I came here to echo the same, good in a few straight walls of similar length. The thing to watch out for, apparently from a few reloaders forums, is this stuff is hot and can lead to early throat and rifling erosion. Now, I do not know this to be true other than being high on the temp, and I do own a pound and a half.
@@PBVader Hmm...the throat/rifling erosion is something that I personally have never heard of or experienced. (?) Lil' gun is also used in pistol calibers, .44 and up, and maybe that's where this occurs? In the straight-wall rifle calibers I haven't seen or heard anything like that. and its been used in the .450BM for many years with no problem.
I loaded some 3 in with over 50 grains and 1 3/4 oz of shot and they shot great when it was 30°, put when I took them hunting at -5 °f, they did not seem to have have nearly the boom. They still worked, but I will have to do more testing.
I was using RSI manual loads..i cant get blue dot or steel....all i have is IMR blue..but cant find any data for my SAM1 wads i have. I was using alliant steel and 1 1/16oz in a 3" hull..at around 1680/1700 fps. With #3 shit..was lethal at long ranges. Also loaded some 1oz 2 3/4 " loads... Also...very effective on early season light feathered birds
Do you know of any load data for a 2 3/4 1 1/8 Oz of #6 steel load for dove and quail I'm new to reloading steel shot I would like a little advice the load data I got from ballistic products only go's up to 1 Oz for #6 steel shot thanks and have a good rest of your day
@theshotgunscientists thank you and under stood the load data I look up was for an 1 1/8 of BB in a 2 3/4 cheddite hull according to ballistic product with I think a ranger elite wad bit some TNT test n tune will need to be done would you say dropping the power charge to sink the wad further in the hull would help I was informed by ballistic product to do so also for safety do to changing shot size according to them but than you for the knowledge good sir
Started off metallic reloading using Aliant Bullseye, which is now unobtainium. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I was never super happy with the performance of it, found Bullseye to be extremely fiddly, and kind of dirty. On the other hand, now I have to convert all my recipes over to a new powder and spend the time tuning them again. It was an effort I was putting off, but the non-availability is kind of forcing my hand. The pity is that whenever Bullseye does come back on the market, I will have no need for it anymore. I have also used Aliant Power Pistol and that stuff is pretty great. Since I started reloading, I have never seen any of the Dot powders generally available except though GB for inflated prices
Funny enough bullseye is constantly available here. I’ve never not seen it but also I have no need for it as I have plenty of other similar powders. If you’re looking for a replacement I can’t recommend AA super handicap enough.
I had keith at salt creek custom ammo load me some jim muller style shells to try this season (1 3/8oz of steel #6 at 1250fps) He claims its all you need to knock ducks out of the sky out to 40. -He wasnt lying about knocking ducks out of the sky, it’ll sure do that-but it wont kill them. If you are lucky you’ll get a follow up shot before it dives and dissapears-if you are REALLY lucky that follow up shot will actually finish it off. Out of the 50 shells I got from keith, a dozen went to pattern testing, and the rest (38) went to ducks. I flat out missed 6 times, stoned them dead out of the sky twice (both green wing teal), 1 went into the ass of a coyote who was stalking my duck decoys and noticed me last second, 10 went to knocking them out of the sky and 1-4 follow up shots on the water on each of those 10. Suprisingly only found two pellets in the meat.

Thanks man. We’ve done several Coyote loads too.
Can't wait to see you try this load
We might don’t know.
Good job young man 🇺🇸
Thanks

It can be used for all sorts of handgun rounds too. 10mm, .41 and .44 mag, it’s a good one.
I use for 300blk

@theshotgunscientists tss 2 and 4 shot
2 uploads in 2 days! I like where this is going, don't burn yourself out though.
I know the other upload was from earlier in the month, but still...
Thanks man
Harp Wade Rush has a video on roll crimping on a crimp hull
I've got an old bag of BP multi-metal wads. I hear they are close to the TPS. Think they would work for this load?
Probably
Looks like that would work fine in a single, double or bolt gun. Probably not too well in a pump or semi. It's not the chamber, but the action length.

Imr blue data can be safely interchanged with blue dot if you didn’t know
@theshotgunscientists was refernce online for lead loads...but steel loads were more finicky .
Like to see you add some blue or red powder coat for buffer. Shoots a good dust ball.
We’ve tried and it wasn’t visible at all for us

Use any 1 1/8 ounce recipe shot size doesn’t matter as long as it’s all in the wad. 1 1/8 ounces of steel is very hard to fit in 2 3/4”

Apparently even a #6 steel pellet will pass clean through a duck at 30 yards. I bet the pattern is nice.
What choke are you using? Ive used that load and had no problem stoning ducks at a true 45 yards (range finder).
@@theshotgunscientists most all the pellets are between the skin and meat on the far side.
