Is it a thing with black metal heads to not like certain sounds because for the most part I kind of agree with you on this video and for the most part I kind of feel the same way about these exact same bands. There are some newer bands to that I don’t really like that people love that I have tried to like, but don’t. I think it’s because they are too melodic. Those are Bring Me the Horizon, The Devil wears Prada, five finger Death Punch, oh asking Alexandria, I prevail, Black Veil Brides, and Avenged Sevenfold, oh and honestly I can’t really get into any of the grunge bands. Maybe hole and L7 are OK. I used to not like slipknot for many of the same reasons I don’t like Metallica, but honestly I am starting to really appreciate support now that I’m 33. Same with Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. I do like certain errors of Megadeth, and only the first album of Metallica Kill ‘Em All. I do you like iron maiden, but Paul Deano is my favorite vocalist. I do love Bruce Dickinson, but I feel like iron maiden with Paul Diana was more raw sounding and iron maiden with Bruce Dickinson is more over produced sounding of that makes sense. One of the reasons why I like black metals so much is because it sounds so raw and not over produced but I guess it’s the distortion because there’s so much of it kind of like in punk. Call Deano has that punk background. Which is weird because I prefer metal to punk because I like some of the more virtuosic nature in metal.
I'll be honest, I don't really like black metal, I'm a punk and I prefer death metal, but there are a few bands that I really enjoy! Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Venom, Harakiri for the sky, and your band, that's it. People at my school listen to well-known bands such as mayhem, burzum, dark throne, etc. but no matter how hard I tried, I never liked to listen to those bands. I have a huge respect for all of those bands, but there were some people who called me a poser just because I didn't listen to them. It's really annoying when people don't respect other people's opinions.
I've been a BM fan since 1998 and I couldn't stand Burzum until maybe 4 months ago *shrugs* Anyway, the real posers are the ones restricting themselves to one particular genre because in the end they're only doing it for credibility amongst their peers and to place themselves on a pedestal to make up for their lower social standing in life. True metalheads don't give a shit what anyone else thinks.
AC/DC for me. I went through a brief phase as a teen/young adult where I liked them. But where I grew up they were just so overplayed--to the point where you couldn't get away from hearing them if you tried. Pantera was so oversaturated too, but at least every song didn't sound the same and Brian Johnson wasn't their "vocalist." I am no Pantera fan boy by any means, but I can't say that I despise them like AC/DC at least.
same. I liked AC/DC back when I was a teen as well, and now I can't stand them! All their songs sound exactly the same, and they're wayyy wayyy wayyyy too over played.
Honestly I can't think of any 5 bands or a number of bands everyone listens to and I don't because I'm an all around guy when it comes to great music especially metal, I mean it just depends what mood I'm in or if an album just reached a milestone then I would go back and listen to it but to me I'm respectful on your picks like I don't constantly listen to these because after while you can actually hear them....without hearing them so from then on you start to listen to upcoming bands that are very unknown to the public which is cool you get a chance to check them out and listen and share your thoughts and insights. But I would say from your picks, the first couple albums of these bands were awesome because it defined what metal really is and paved on to Thrash, Death, and Black metal. Anyways, great video though dude hope to see you more on here or stream. \m/
honestly, the 4 bands you mentioned, I feel the same. but the way i see it, not every band is for everyone. I respect what they accomplished and added to the Metal community, but i just can not bring myself to listen to them
The one thing these bands have in common is they are all mainstream (Pantera is to a point). You go into more detail but the main reason I get sick of bands like this is hearing their songs everywhere... it gets old. Most of the music I truly like I've found here on RUclips, going down the rabbit hole of recommended videos. The music I like doesnt usually end up on the radio, even Octane or Liquid Metal. Even those "heavy" music stations play popular mainstream stuff.
My introduction to metal is directly correlated to these bands. Pantera especially. Phil Anselmo would wear Mayhem and Darkthrone t-shirts in the mid-90's. I don't care what people think and that will never determine what band I like. Their music is a bit one-dimensional now, so I won't spin those records as much, but they will always hold a special part in my heart. Cheers.
Anselmo was in contact with Fenriz often in the90’s when Darkthrone left peaceville records and went to satyr wongraven’s moon fog label and you probably know this but I’ll say it anyways, Phil, Fenriz, and couple of other guys went on to form a super band called Ebon
I feel the same way dude. Knew of Darkthrone by seeing Phil wear the shirts when his pics were in the Metal Edge and Metal Maniacs magazines. Read about so many bands just by mags alone. Man,what a different time.
I hate the 80's hard rock scene like Guns'n'Roses, Scorpions, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake... When you hear stuffs like Sabbath, Zeppelin, Hendrix and such it sounded so freakin' raw and intense, and then you hear these guys it sound so boring, I don't know... Its something like Madonna wearing leather - not that she didn't -, and screaming and playing distorted guitars.
Totally agree with you on Iron Maiden and Megadeth. I can enjoy a few Pantera songs. With Metallica, well, thet first album I listened to was the Black album when I was around 10 y/o and really liked it, and then the older ones too; as a teenager i enjoyed a couple of songs from the Load and Reload albums because i thought the videos where cool back then. But after that, nothing special for my taste.
"Nothing special compared to other bands" actually apply to ALL bands. No one has to justify themselves about their preferences, but that just ain't a valid argument. All genres are filled to the brim with generic, by the number bands. I personally don't care about bands themselves, and only care about a few musicians, I care about the songs. Same bands produced more songs I enjoy, others less and many produced none. Majority rule does not apply when it comes to preferences, you don't have to like something because everyone else does. You don't have to like everything anyway, that make you an echo chamber, not a person. Funny thing though, metalheads often complain loudly about "everyone" talking shit about the music we like yet we're the one who talk the most shit about bands other metalheads like. And to wrap it up, the worst reason to shit on popular bands is to assert some sort of "individuality" like a statement that says "I'm not a sheep, I know better". That's just plain garbage. Not to say it's what you did, the reasons given in your video make sense to me, even if for some examples I think you picked not enough albums and here and there picked the wrong ones. One thing I'll never accept though is the statement that hair metal is "cool". I hated it when it was the craze back in the 80s, and I even hate it more now.
Great Video. I First read about Metallica in a pop-music youth magazine, the first Metal band I listened to was Testament an I still like them. Some Songs of Metallica are good, but they never catched me. I like Symphony of Destruction and visited a concert of Megadeth, but nothing more. Iron Maiden also is a great Band, I like playing their song in Guitar Hero with my friends, but I have no CD of them. I don't own a CD of Megadeth or Metallica also. Pantera is a diffent, I like them, have CD's and I'm drinking a Dimebag memorial beer every december 8th. The next two band I listened to were Marduk and Vader and they are still great and I still like them very much.
Always felt I was awful for not just getting into certain bands. Pantera was very talented, same with Iron Maiden, Metallica but just didnt do anything for me. Megadeth, some good songs but not for me. I was into bands that were melodic but dark. One 80s band I do like Is Queensriche, their 1st 3 albums. After those no. My music was black metal. Some Mayhem, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir was my favorite. Even some Mortis, Agalloch, Burzum. And now like Runespell, and Fyrnask, Severoth. It has to be melodic and dark.Even as a very young kid I was always disappointedbecause I was looking for something I didnt know how to even explain. One favorite is a late 70s album, Ted Nugent with Stranglehold. Loved it but just that one album. Oh well, guess we just like what we like. Thanx for letting me share.
Yesss! This. As a small child, craving something dark and melodic. And just being too young to know where to look. These bands were hyped publicly and had the visual aesthetics of that. But always, the disappointment was felt because the music didn't hit right.
The first 2 Iron Maiden albums with Paul Di Anno are the best for me, I love them albums since 1984 very punk influenced that really suited Di Anno's voice..
Cool video! I recommend Rust in Peace from Megadeth, and ..And Justice for All and Master of Puppets from Metallica. Iron Maiden has so many albums that it can be hard to recommend a better one, in my book it would be Somewhere in Time or Powerslave.
I agree with you for the most part I think alot of it you had to be there at the time they were released and compare it with what was going on at the time
I know I'm commenting on an old video, but I couldn't agree more! A lot of people have given me shit about it, but you're right- not everyone likes the same thing. 🤘🖤
I started listening to Metallica in 1984. When Master of Puppets came out I didn't really like it. But then I was listening to stuff like Venom, Bathory, Possessed and Merciful Fate...
i agree with you about all these bands. i got into death metal pretty quickly after getting into any music at all, and it felt like i was going backwards to check out bands like these. even when i did get into thrash i always wondered why Kreator wasn't even in the conversation when i thought they were better than any of the american bands. (said as an american)
I always liked Sepultura better than the big 4 of thrash as well, and never liked Anthrax at all, and always wondered why people liked them. I always thought the SOD side project was much better than Anthrax
I feel this way about death metal. I really REALLY tried to like the growls and grunts over what is generally very good music, but I just can't find anything appealing about the "big" metal bands out there today :(
For Megadeth please check out Peace Sells But Who's Buying. In my opinion that album is a very different beast and I'm thinking you might find that one really interesting. I don't really care all that much for the two Megadeth albums you mentioned but Peace Sells is in my top 3 thrash albums ever for sure
I get you about Iron Maiden. I remember getting into fights with my friends about them. Megadeth's first four albums are tits. The first four Metallica albums are also tits.
It's been a year and a few months and I just got it to shoulder lenght coming from an almost Buzzcut undercut i'll keep it going until I reach waist. Mine is very thick so it looks longer. Anyways, keep it up and don't give a fuck about what others say. They'll hate and tell you to cut it especially at the beginning but fuck them and go for what you like.

Something that i really liked about this video is that you are very genuine about it. You don't bring up the cliché bands to express dislike for, and you dare to bring up some more controversial bands to "dislike" such as Iron Maiden. I do agree with you regarding Pantera. I appreciate them for how important they are for Metal but i don't like them that much. They have a few good songs, but that's pretty much it. I prefer bands like Exhorder, which is pretty much Pantera but better.
Pantera, really like Vulgar Display and Reinventing the Steel. I still listen to some Megadeth but only primarily Peace Sells. Iron Maiden up through Piece of Mind and Metallica through And Justice.

I do like Iron Maiden, but the other three I can’t stand either. I did kinda cut my teeth on Maiden though, so that’s probably why. They are nostalgic to me, but even so I have moved past them at this point too. Everyone always thinks I’m crazy, but I just don’t get what everyone sees in those other 3.
Just found your channel, dude. Your list was basically what I started listening to when I got into metal in the mid 90s. Have you tried any Iron Maiden from the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album? I definitely like that you are respectful and rational. Are you a fan of Enslaved and Borknagar? Them along with The Chasm are my favorites.
I dig this channel,it's always original opinion. I did have to laugh, though,at the question regarding why did Dimebag not do the singing(more) in Pantera. Well...they decided amongst themselves the best way to REPRESENT TEXAS was for all four band members to focus on the one thing they did best, and then go slay the world! Earn gold records, tour the globe, make $$$,buy a stripper club, etc. They had a pretty good plan and the talent to back it up. (My fave with Dimebag on vocals,Pu$$y Tight!). Salute!
Now, i do like Pantera and Iron Maiden. I only really like Symphony of Destructions by Megadeth because that opening riff is kinda neat, and i like two albums by Metallica. HOWEVER I think you're correct on all accounts.
I had my time when Metallica and Machine Head were everything, or what I liked the most until I discovered around that time an underground magazine in my country (SPAIN) called Black Light promoted by that emblematic Metal Head magazine... What a wonderful time WOW ... My brain exploded!! Strapping Young Lad (anything Devin Townsend does MY MUSICAL GOD), Rotting Christ, Behemoth and Katatonia are bands I've been following ever since, plus many others of course. I never liked Megadeth very much, Pantera yes although more Sepultura...I discovered Death Metal with Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth and from there to many others...Amon Amarth, Nile, Slayer...Puuuffff I know some songs from Iron Maiden but not with devotion...I've always been something dark and gone more to my thing. Great video Boris METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA!! Haha!!
I love asking this question to other metal fans such as myself. I’m ready to hear your opinion, it’s interesting to see what you like and don’t like about the music. I’m not a fan of Metallica or Iron Maiden and everyone likes them. Everyone likes screamo punk metal, I just do not like it. Ugh I really like pantera. Maybe I’m bias since I’m a Texan haha
I really tried to like Pantera too. Not my cup of tea either. Plus this girl I was dating st the time played them out for me. Megadeth I like Peace Sells. That's it. His voice gets to me. Iron Maiden I prefer Killers. Metallica I won't even bother. After Master of Puppets I was out. Garage Days was good. You can hear the bass. So I guess I agree. Love the channel. Keep up the good work. 🎸☠️💀🦝
The 5 bands that I can't really get into are 1 Burzum 2 Six Feet Under 3 Sabaton 4 king Diamond ( but I like Merciful Fate I know it's weird) 5 Accept 5
For me, it's not that I don't like any of those 4 bands, I just only like some of their songs... not that majority of them. It's actually very rare for me to like a huge percentage of a band's work, so that's one way I sort them out into tiers: If a band has maybe 3-4 or more albums that I like every song on, then that band to me is in the god tier. Megadeth Pantera and Iron Maiden are great examples, where I could maybe list a handful of songs I like but in no way would they ever make the higher tiers for me, personally.
For me the first band on my list has to be Lamb of God. I can't really put my finger on it, it's something with their sound. I don't know. Secondly, I agree on Megadeath. Love some songs and Dave is a riff legend, but I don't like his singing. Third. Opeth. Sorry, I don't feel the energy here. Great musicians for sure, some great songs, but overall, not my favourite. Four. Beartooth.

Another shitband.
I agree with every one of your choices and I have done the same with each band buying albums and really trying
early on in my metal journey, i couldnt get into slayer and thought it was horrible. i was so worried hahaha
You make great work, album is very good too 🤘best regards.
I'm with you on the whole Pantera and Metallica bit. However, I enjoy Maiden, and I LOVE Megadeth.
I respect your opinion, but I grew up on em, and love Marduk/mayhem/incantation just as much as the rest of my trash metal bands
Trash?! 🤔
AcDc... When you hear one song you've heard them all. I feel it. Love Pantera though.
Ac/dc ain't metal though. Its hard rock.
Have to check your band Tryglav. As a 90s black metal dude i expect a lot.
Aside from a handful of songs from Megadeth and Pantera, I'm in agreement with you on these bands.
I'm confused. Nothing special compared to other bands applies to all bands? How?
Pantera has some bangers that I can jam to. But I agree with your list Boris. They are on the lower tier for me, as well as a lot of NU-Metal bands
Marduk is an amazing Black Metal band. Legion era was good, Mortuus took them to another level
Yeah even if one doesn't like them, I feel they should at least respect Dimebag for his guitar solos, which are honestly insane.
Those two Maiden albums are good, but for me dude its Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on Phil Anselmo's other bands, Scour and Viking Crown (Viking Crown's first album, namely).
i agree with you about all these bands. i got into death metal pretty quickly after getting into any music at all, and it felt like i was going backwards to check out bands like these. even when i did get into thrash i always wondered why Kreator wasn't even in the conversation when i thought they were better than any of the american bands. (said as an american)
I always liked Sepultura better than the big 4 of thrash as well, and never liked Anthrax at all, and always wondered why people liked them. I always thought the SOD side project was much better than Anthrax
It is great to hear from you that you are awesome fan of Exodus, Testament, Overkill and Anthrax. :D
A lot of metal head friends I had in my younger years thought it was blasphemy that I don't like Slayer.
But one of the best bands out there is Venom 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
My man! You couldn't be more right.
You broke my heart 💔a little bit with Iron maiden. But I prefer the first 2 albums also.
Another black metal fan who likes hair metal too! You're awesome Boris.
How much time did it took to grow your hair that long?
I just started to grow mine
It's been a year and a few months and I just got it to shoulder lenght coming from an almost Buzzcut undercut i'll keep it going until I reach waist.
Mine is very thick so it looks longer. Anyways, keep it up and don't give a fuck about what others say. They'll hate and tell you to cut it especially at the beginning but fuck them and go for what you like.
@@herrmiseria right now it covers half of my forehead it's very short it will take a while
@@Music4Life5 it really depends on your hair, and you can always use some hair growth oils like ricinus oil or something like that. They make your hair healthier and it grows a bit faster
Im so glad you said angry again by megadeth! Kick ass song, killer riff
When is new tryglav coming out
Lika all metalcore bands..
Jinjer
Spiritbox
Megadeath
Band Maid
Baby metal
You are smart only to listen that and nothing that was released after. You have good taste!
For me I can not get into certain genres:
1: Nu-Metal
2: Metalcore
3: Screamo
4: Depressive/Suicide Black Metal
What happend to audio quality?
I absolutely agree, I feel the complete same!
I would list it but you got it pretty much. Another maybe would be cannibal corpse and infant annihilator when it comes to death metal.
You are right about all these bands, they have some good songs, but complete albums are torture. I must admit, i like IRON MAIDEN and KILLERS,but when Dickinson joined...ooomph
I don't care for Pantera either. I understand why my buddies do but it's too soft for me personally.
didnt used to love metallica for the same reasons u gave ,but after watching them in paris for two nights last may , i would say ,despite of all their shitty songs , they still hhave great iconic ones , they are also great on live ,
greetings from tunisia
IRON MAIDEN = HEAVY METAL AFTER 80S Inspired Everything End of Story UP THE IRONS Worldwide IRON MAIDEN F.C for us tHE 40S & 50 YEARS OLD mETALHEADS ARE oUR nO 1 TOGETHER WITH METALLICA You are just younger guys you grow up with different sounds of Metal but just Respect The Metal Fathers IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH, METALLICA, THE BIG 4 OF METAL
I am a huge fan of Pantera’s Far beyond driven record but I totally agree for the three other bands.
You've said it all, exactly the same bands for me...
I would just add Powerwolf, Nirvana and Slayer ! ;)
I like all metal. Every band has something even if im not crazy about them -> i will prob only listen to them once if im not crazy about them.
Love these video even if you put my favorite band in there, and probably my second right now too, 🥵
Metallica was my springboard into thrash, but got uninteresting when I discovered more extreme bands of the time like Sodom, Kreator, Whiplash, Holy Terror, Violence, etc.
Agree with you 100%. However, one band I can't stand now is Nirvana. For the exact same reason as metallica.
Yeah I couldn't stand Nirvana back then in the grunge days, something about Cobain's voice, like nails on a chalkboard to me
Kiss, Slipknot, Nightwish. All three of them are great live but it's just not for me.
Objectively, if you don't appreciate the fact that they made Master of Puppets(the song) when they were 22-23, there's something wrong with you.
We have the same problem. Everyone expect that I'm a big fan of metallica cuzz I'm a metalhead when actually I don't like their music xD
At least you supported these artists 👍🏼💯
Usually one brother likes them and the other brother hates them….I was the one that hated lol now I love all of them
I dig this channel,it's always original opinion. Salute!
metallica is great, they got me into heavier metal, they are heavy but still listenable. like u said, every poser have shirt of them what is rly shame
Metallica lost me when The Black Album came out. That isn't saying much, because I was always more of a Slayer fan.
Yep, agree with you on all 4!
Different strokes for different folks, I feel you on Iron Maiden
The bands I don't like that are popular are Jinjer,Code Orange, Behemoth,Tool, Lamb of God
Now, i do like Pantera and Iron Maiden. I only really like Symphony of Destructions by Megadeth because that opening riff is kinda neat, and i like two albums by Metallica. HOWEVER I think you're correct on all accounts.
My list is
1. Slipknot
2.jinjer
3. Metallica
4.mayham
Great video 🤘🤘
we agree on Iron Maiden and Megadeth, I would also add Manowar (I hate them for so many reasons) and Slayer for me
I had my time when Metallica and Machine Head were everything, or what I liked the most until I discovered around that time an underground magazine in my country (SPAIN) called Black Light promoted by that emblematic Metal Head magazine...
The 5 bands that I can't really get into are
1 Burzum
2 Six Feet Under
3 Sabaton
4 king Diamond ( but I like Merciful Fate I know it's weird)
5 Accept
5
For me, it's not that I don't like any of those 4 bands, I just only like some of their songs... not that majority of them. It's actually very rare for me to like a huge percentage of a band's work, so that's one way I sort them out into tiers: If a band has maybe 3-4 or more albums that I like every song on, then that band to me is in the god tier. Megadeth Pantera and Iron Maiden are great examples, where I could maybe list a handful of songs I like but in no way would they ever make the higher tiers for me, personally.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that cracked me up... at least your honest👍👍👍
I love all those guys, and seen them all live too!!!
Keep it up legend...😅😅
For me the first band on my list has to be Lamb of God. I can't really put my finger on it, it's something with their sound. I don't know.
Secondly, I agree on Megadeath. Love some songs and Dave is a riff legend, but I don't like his singing.
Third. Opeth. Sorry, I don't feel the energy here. Great musicians for sure, some great songs, but overall, not my favourite.
Four. Beartooth.
