Chuck Mangione was born in Rochester, New York on November 29, 1940, so he is celebrating his 81st birthday today November 29, 2021. He is an American flugelhorn player, voice actor, trumpeter and composer. He came to prominence as a member of Art Blakey's band in the 1960s. He achieved international success in 1977 with his jazz-pop single "Feels So Good". Mangione has released more than 30 albums since 1960
It is impressive, it is the greatest that New York has had in this style of musicians. For me it is the greatest. They should make a film of the life and work of this great maestro. Thank you. Greetings
The Children of Sanchez movie score is one of the best movie scores ever made...and imho...one of the best jazz albums ever. Id rank it side by side against Dave Brubek Take 5 and Miles Davis Kinda Blue....amongst others! What a performance this was!
It helps they had just got back fro their "feel so good" tour. They hadbeen playing together most nights for a few months, so were already musically very tight. It takes good musicians to produce a soundtrack that fast. Musicians that understad each other
Amazing playing by all. Guitar is crazy good. Chris is playing at an extremely high level. Young drummer to kicking it. Bass is solid and driving it. Chuck is awesome. Excellent performance!
@@jeffreystockham6860 Not to disagee, but isn't it Grant Geissmman on guitar in this clip? Just asking. Whichever it is, the guitar is smoking on this.

Listen & watch these incredible jazz musicians at their best! Each maestro featured in a solo to display his musical prowess. AND playing together, perfection! A "tour de force" ! BRAVO !!
This song is timeless! I’ve been listening to it since it’s release over 40 years ago. This rendition ithink is a notch above the live at the Hollywood bowl !
I thought I’d give some commendation to the drummer since few comments have. The wild syncopations in this piece had to give that poor guy a run for the money. He sure kept them, and himself, on target. Well done!
agree, drummer here...he did a fine job creating a groove the band could easily follow the energy we feel the result. ..not an easy tune w/ all the hits and parts.
The drummer and the saxman really held it together this is from someone who is untrained musically meaning to me if it feels good sounds good it is good..
Most excellent!!!!! Us old heads stick together. I started playing kit in 1962, and discovered, and fell in love with "Hill Where The Lord Hides" when it first came out. I have been enamored with this mans music ever since. I particularly enjoy his use of dynamics, AND he ALWAYS surrounds himself with monster musicians, necessary to pull off his compositions!!!!!
R.I.P. Chris Vadala. Gone too soon. One of the members of this band that made it what it was. He is playing duets with Bird and Coltrane in heaven now.
Greatest musical score for a movie that was never released! I read he wrote the score in 72 hours! Great musicians all of them!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for the great music!!
Saw chuck mangione and band play at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco many years ago, about 1988. Very small audience in a super nice dinner club..if you wanted you could get up and dance on the floor in front of the band…. Excellent music…… those were the days
Gracias Chuck.
Feel So Good was a HUGE HIT in the 70s. Played often on the airways. Mangione’s Live album recorded at the Hollywood Bowl was huge, too. I had that album, used to listen to Children of Sanchez ove r and over. I remember, back in the 70s, a network doing a Sunday highlights recap of all the NFL games played that day with Children of Sanchez playing in the background. How music can draw you back in time…..
Had the opportunity to see Chuck Mangione in concert First half of the show was his HITS then after intermission the group came back to do the Children of Sanchez. OUTSTANDING!!! I went along with a number of professional musicians (I am Not) They were amazed at the composition and performance!!
Woo, que grandesa, que musicos. Vean al guitarrista (ojala supiera su nombre) que bellaza de interpretacion, es un virtuoso. Oigamos en especial los contratiempos en su solo. Grandioso. Gracias al amigo que publica esto.
what a superb version. The guitar guy really makes this live version even better than the studio recording. Is there another live recording of this concert? Thanks for make my ears happy.

In agreement
sax solo didnt need to go this hard, but it did. I love it!
Chris was such a badass...and this is coming from a decades long semi professional saxophonist

The band spent a week in a studio writing and recording the entire movie score without coming out until it was complete. Talent and dedication.
