My father always told us: "There are three things you never lend out: 1. Your wife; 2.Your car; 3. Your Gato Barbieri LPs!" He treasured his Gato Barbieri long players. I am so grateful to have found CD's by Gato Barbieri. 'Thank you for sharing your remarkable gift of music with the world. RIP.'

Listening to this, Gato feels the essence of this tune completely, he has the same lyrical melodic approach as Carlos. This collaboration brought the tune in another direction, more jam like with new inventions created on the spot. For me one of the best performances of this legendary tune.

I have a great Gato Story. I was part of the heart team which did his bypass surgery in 1995. He was at a gig and had chest pain, I got called from home on a Friday night. So as we were putting him to sleep our surgeon comes in and says "What kind of music you want us to play during the surgery." Gato looks up and says "You handle the surgery, I"LL handle the music." We all exchanged grins. He did well and signed my Europa CD I bought across the street at Tower Records.

This transcends genius, sweet, pure Latin soul... First heard Gato on Tropico, and Caliente, years ago. I was blown away! And Carlos! I heard the first Santana album, the black and white one with the lion when I was a teen back in the sixties. I never dreamed such music could exist! And then came Abraxas.... So much emotion. So high... Gracias amigos. Muchas gracias! ( and thank you too, my little chickadee )

Yes God definitely blessed us with two amazing phenomenally awesome players of Music. There will never be another gato Barbieri. I had the fortune of seeing him at least 10 times five of them up close and personal. What a phenomenal human being. And then we have Carlos and time with his guitar what a great collaboration. Yes they do not make music like this anymore and they never will. If we are still listening to this it is November 2020 praying we make it to 2021. I wore out for albums of. Gato Barbieri Caliente. I finally found this CD on eBay. I already wore that and I just got it a few months ago. Actually my son was conceived listening to gato Barbieri. Definitely a great collaboration of music. May you rest in peace my friend. And also sorry to hear about your brother Jorge passing away Carlos. Both of them will live on through our love of music. May God be with us all

It is wonderful when after many years you continue listening to a masterful piece like this and it still suggests you liking it like the first time; I think that happens when something is done with the heart so that it lasts in eternity.
thank you Gato Barbieri (RIP), thank you Carlos Santana ..

@Santana , I have never been able to listen to Europa without completely braking down & Crying. 😭😳Hubby & I had musicians play John Coltane’s “Favorite Things” almost every other song at our wedding reception. Europa is my 2nd favorite Sax song (although I 😭… that’s Ok, but maybe not at wedding). Thank you for keeping this recording out here. I am so glad to see how you Honored 🙏🏻this Man, Gato Barbieri, in this Performance. Scientist now, but was multi-instrumentalist in my church growing up; can say that EVERY note you’ve ever played I have understood. In this video with Gato Barbieri it is so clear how you defer to him, Honoring his Soul & his Musicianship.. Loved❤ seeing you and @bennyretveld at Meijer Botanical Gardens some years ago, was terrific ❤❤
