I bet if you flooded the paper mold with water thin CA glue you’d get something really strong durable and dimensionally stable. Worth a shot IMO for the obvious reasons
Yes improving the resolution would be the easiest way. There are some chemicals that will similarly dissolve and smooth out PLA but I haven't tried them yet.
@@TeranAtelier I'll have to look into the PLA chemicals. My printer is supposed to be able to do ABS. But it's a cheap model and I have never brought it up to that temperature.
Great video. I’m new to leather craft and starting to work with molding. Out of curiosity, is the paper mold a heavy card stock? Did you do anything special to prep it? Thanks
Thanks! It is two layers of card stock that I have stuck together to strengthen it, the firmer it is the better but you still need to be able to cut it accurately. As long as you remove all the dripping/excess water from the leather so that the water will not weaken the paper mold too much there will be no special preparation required.
Although I understand it's somewhat a hustle (what isn't?) You could combine two molds (paper and plastic) to eliminate 3d print impression or use DLP resin printer..
Yes resin printing would be a step up in smoothness but would be limit the size of the molds. I do not think paper would work well for complex molds but I am looking into solvents, resin and fillers.

Yes that would certainly make the paper mold stronger.

That was quick!
Yes, thankfully I managed to the printer running well very quickly
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
You could use a higher resolution. Also ABS filament and acetone for smoothing it out.

@@jakek584265 ABS requires good ventilation which is why I am hesitant to try. Ethyl acetate is the solvent for PLA but I haven't tried it yet.

@@TeranAtelier Thank you! That helps a great deal.

Is it possible to buy something made by you. Do you have a shop? If so, could you provide me with a link. Thank you.
I sometimes accept commissions through my Instagram, you can contact me there but I won't be accepting any new commissions until March.
